00:30Hello again, and for this week we're just going to go around and check out the late flowering plants. It's now October and there's still quite a few plants that are flowering and may flower through into the early winter. So we'll just go around and see what's still there.
00:49Obviously most things are going over now. Most of the annuals are dying back and some of the summer perennials as well, the biennials. But here is one that will just keep on going. And this is Cosmos, Sunday flower around early August.
01:19In the spring, I think April, I planted these seeds and with them in modules. As you can see beside there, these are later shown calendula, which can be sown all through most of the year and planted out.
01:37And they're quite tough, so they should survive the winter okay as well. I have some younger ones there, probably about 30 that planted in amongst. You can't really see them there, but we'll take you down and show you some.
01:50And then some white Cosmos up here as well. And these are kind of a double petal. You can see there, different shape. These are single petal ones. The last of the hollyhock. Big, big flowers here.
02:14Big, big, tall spikes. And then we have sanguasorba over here. I'm pulling these for the first time. I'm focusing on them there. These are, I think these are blackthorn, this variety here. Kind of a reddish pink color.
02:32And they will get bigger and bigger clumps every year. So there's a few leaves coming out of this one in different, it's popping up in different spots.
02:43And then I'm behind as well. And amongst the weeds. And we have some gladiola coming up too. A lot of it was destroyed actually, the gladiola in the storm Amy there.
02:56A few lois about the open in the background there. I see one gladiola, two gladiola still going. And I'll go on down here. As you can see, most things are going over. Still some sweet william, which are traditionally May, June, where I cut a lot of these back. But some of them are still flowing. That just shows you what a strange year we've had. A lot of good dry sunny weather.
03:14We'll do that. Here we have some nasturtiums. And these are self-seeded ones. I didn't plant any nasturtiums this year. But I had a lot last year. So these have just come back. Some scabious. And these are the redbeck.
03:26There's loads of bugs on this one. So this will just keep going. And this is an annual redbeck, yeah. This will not last past the winter. But great value if you want some bugging.
03:42Big, big flowers, big color. There's another one from the same packet of seeds. They are starting to flap over because of that one. Still some more scabious here. And the last.
04:12of these ones names escape me now. They were quite tolerant as well. So I may actually plant some seeds of those. The last seeds I probably plant this year.
04:23These are some black. This blue scabious is a perennial. This will come back every year. And these were grown from seeds collected in a park.
04:37I just noticed the nice blue flower on them. And a real magnet for bees. Absolutely. They love them. And I've noticed a lot of butterflies around them. In the late summer there. In the early autumn.
04:56This one here is an annual scabious. So you can see very similar flower. I have a few of them. Black and white ones.
05:05There's a white one there too. And this is this one here. Little edible plant. The Elysium. Smells like sweet honey. And that is on its probably second or third flower in this year. That's the great thing about them. If you just take a pair of shears of them. They'll bounce back. After they flower. More calendula.
05:29More cosmos here. More cosmos here. But this has been battered by the wand. That's a seashell cosmos.
05:37Very easy to grow from seed. And with more rudbeckia. And this is a biennial rudbeckia. This is blackjack. It's dying off now. More calendula down there.
05:51More calendula down there. Straw flowers are still going. But they're just the last of them now.
05:59They must actually pick some of them and dry them out. Now these ones came a cropper in the wand.
06:05And you can see there. They're petals are like paper. They're bracts even. They're not even petals there.
06:13And then we have unexpectedly another lupin coming up in October. So this was a fantastic lupin grown from seed last year.
06:25Which caught up near over five feet this year. This is another huge cosmos plant.
06:35Or bent over now because of the wind. There's a lot of different plants around here.
06:41At the back here we have some canterbury bells. And a weed lumen as well. Still some fax clove.
06:51But nearly everything as you can see has now gone over.
06:59In the fire bed. I have a few things in there. A few beetroot.
07:09Some carrots. Some carrots. Which did take. I didn't think I'd have any carrots. But there is a few in there.
07:15The chamomile has gone over. You can see the carrot flowers there coming.
07:21I'm going to be planting some onions and some garlic. I did a course yesterday on that.
07:27Let's see here. This is the Rebecca Goldstrom which is just going over now.
07:37But these will stay. These black centers.
07:41They turn on the seed heads. It will feed the birds over a winter.
07:45And they look quite well. Just popping up over the winter.
07:49Especially if it gets snow and it's snow Hudson.
07:51Still some dahlias firing as well.
07:55There's a wee marigold that's self seeded there.
07:57That wasn't planted in there.
07:59And these are the ones I really want to show you.
08:05In terms of like late or autumn flowers that will go into late autumn.
08:11And this is a hardy chrysanthemum rosy posy.
08:17Which is just now starting to open.
08:19This is a pink and white chrysanthemum.
08:23That was from a bare root I bought in the late spring.
08:27Planted in there.
08:29And massive heads on that.
08:31So that should start really putting on a show now.
08:35Over the next few weeks.
08:37And see there's a bee hovering around.
08:39Waiting for them to open.
08:41More data is still flowering in the ground here.
08:44And then this is the other one.
08:46This is a Michaelmas daisy type of aster.
08:49Which is just now coming on the flower.
08:53And these beautiful purple.
08:57This is purple dome.
08:58This one.
08:59So it's a lower growing one.
09:00Another bare root planted this year.
09:02And both that and the hardy chrysanthemum there.
09:04They will get bigger and bigger each year.
09:07But they won't run around the garden.
09:10They'll stay in one clump.
09:12And looking forward to seeing this.
09:14Look how many buds are on that as well.

09:23A lot of these plants that haven't flowered this year.

11:06wand, but look at the size of the heads on them, beautiful, big red, they all seem to
11:11be shades of red and orange, but really nice.
11:15This is some Chinese lanterns here, which haven't, they're two years old now, haven't really
11:22done much, so I've repotted them this year, if they come on above, but more of the light
11:28lollies there, and a few more cousins.
11:35This is starting to go over now, and this is the keala lollies, this is a dark red, looks
11:45almost black on the camera, showing up as reddish there.
11:50These are the canthems, they're picked up from a garden centre for cheap, because they were
11:54dying off, but they've come back.
11:56There's even, there's a lot of spring plants that are sort of putting on a few more flowers,
12:02here's another tall, I beg you, this is headstone, another perennial, now we have these beautiful,
12:14big tall ones as well, these were some of the bulbs, the same packet of bulbs as the dahlias
12:20and that, some of the, I'd give these a haircut as well, these are the little, small petunias,
12:27these are petunias, I can't remember the name there, look at the size of that head, look
12:33on them, look really nice with the dark green foliage, and I think that's more or less everything,
12:39what I've got down here.
