Go behind the scenes of The Road, the high-stakes new music competition series where 12 rising musicians hit the stage as opening acts for GRAMMY® winner Keith Urban. With Gretchen Wilson as tour manager and appearances by Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, and more, the search for country’s next big star is on. The Road premieres Sunday, Oct. 19 on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
00:06The Road is a show about 12 musicians on tour with me experiencing what it's like to be on the road away from their families.
00:14The winner of the competition gets a record contract, a quarter of a million dollars, and a slot to perform at Stagecoach.
00:21I came here to change my life.
00:23We're starting with incredible, accomplished musicians that are really ready to take that final step to being the next superstar in country music.
00:32That felt surreal. It was a great high.
00:35Every week we're going to be in a different city.
00:37They're going to have to win the audience, and I love that that audience is going to be voting.
00:42I'm trying to bring back that traditional country sound.
00:44Maybe my song might help somebody else out. That's all I could ever ask for.
00:48There's not a musician in Nashville that wouldn't want the opportunity to have the stage before a superstar like Keith Urban.
00:56I actually learned watching a bunch of YouTube clips of Keith Urban playing acoustic guitar, and so the dream come true.
01:02I think what makes me different is just the passion in which I sing.
01:06Y'all mind if we turn the party up a little bit now?
01:09Being a part of this show was exciting because it involves Taylor Sheridan.
01:13It's your moment. Make it your moment.
01:15Taylor's got a good sense of truth, and I think there's a style to this show that will capture all of that truth.
01:21You don't get too old for it. Matter of fact, I feel like the older you get, the better you get.
01:25Keith and Blake are more out with the audience, seeing how the crowd is moved by each performance.
01:31How do you think?
01:33And I'm the last face I think they see before they go up and hit the stage, which means everything to me.
01:38It's the first show. Trust in yourself.
01:41We've also had a lot of guests out here with us. Dustin Lynch joined us, Karen Fairchild, Jordan Davis, and brothers of Osborne as well.
01:47They all come from a different little corner of the country. They all have a great story.
01:52My mom, Joni Farms, is a musician.
01:54I was put on earth to do this.
01:56I'm here tonight to show that mamas, we can chase our dreams.
02:00As a performer, I'd consider myself an enthusiastic dancer.
02:05We're very passionate.
02:06I was always told to speak from the heart.
02:08We're dreamers.
02:09This is something I've wanted my whole life, and if I don't do it now, I'll probably never do it.
02:14Touring's hard to get right, but when you do, it's the greatest feeling in the world.
