00:25:29more than 18 it'll be much more than 20 by the time the year more than 20
00:25:34trillion dollars has never been a country in the world that had anything
00:25:37like that what's happened to our country is incredible in a short period
00:25:42of time Charlie was a big person for sir can we close up those borders please a
00:25:47little bit you know they're really leaking badly I said Charlie I haven't
00:25:51gotten there yet but you know it came out last four months literally nobody was
00:25:57in our country and the only people that were allowed in were people that came in legally the borders are absolutely stone cold closed and they reported zero zero zero and zero so that's pretty good but he was a big believer he wanted people in the country more than I did frankly he wanted them to come in legally and he got his wish October 14th is Charlie's birthday and he should have been turning
00:26:2732 years old I tell you I never when I first met him he was like 22 and I said boy he's awfully young but I thought he was older than that you know he looked a little bit older than his age that's okay you know that's not good when you're old but when you're young it's great he had the best of all things but he was special but instead Charlie is attaining a far more important milestone we're entering his name forever into the eternal roster
00:26:57of true American heroes he's a true American hero an amazing person way way beyond his years and I'm honored to be joined by a woman who has endured unspeakable hardship with unbelievable strength and that's Charlie's widow Erica and I just want to thank you Erica he loved you so much
00:27:20I was with him
00:27:24I was with him before I met Erica and he told me he was going to get married he said you won't believe how beautiful she is I said well then now that I meet her he's right but then he also said and you know what
00:27:50she's like the smartest person I know see they do go together on occasion not often not often but on occasion they go together but he was he was in love with you he was deeply in love with you it's great Erica your love and courage have been an inspiration to all of us and we will always be here for you and we're always going to be here for your gorgeous beautiful children
00:28:18and we'll never forget what your family has sacrificed for our country
00:28:25man loved our country when things were going badly for our country he was so as you know angry he would get angry because he said it doesn't have to be that way we're also pleased to be joined by an incredible group of Charlie's friends very powerful friends actually and some not so powerful and they're actually better people okay I know about the less powerful
00:28:47the less powerful ones I have to tell you that all of you power guys down here the best ones in the group are the ones that are less successful but that happens to no they're all great and they're here and let's start with Erica's father where is Erica's father where are you where are you dead oh look at him wow I want to get a hat like that too I like that how are you nice to see you again thanks as well to Vice President
00:29:16Vice President J.D. Vance who's been fantastic J.D. thank you very much great doing a great job did a great job on Sunday with George Slapidopoulos put him away pretty good second lady who's a phenomenal woman Usha Vance thank you very much thank you very much great woman president of Argentina he wanted to be
00:29:46to be here that that's Argentina is a serious flight right and he's become a superstar and he's doing amazing things it's he's a MAGA person but it's make Argentina great again that's what he does right and I want you to stand please Javier Javier Millet doing a great job thank you very much many members of my cabinet are here just about all of them here
00:30:16I won't go into every single one of them but I'll announce a few of the people that have really turned this country around and helped me incredible people speaker of the house Mike Johnson where is Mike Mike what a job you're doing Mike what a job you're doing and I watched you this morning and you're in there trying to say look just let the country open everything will be fine we're dealing with some radical
00:30:46I just wish Charlie was here to fight us I think the fight would have been over already he would have had a march on the Capitol by people who whose average age is about 21 because there's nobody that had that relationship with young people right Mike so thank you Mike for being here house majority leader Steve Scalise Steve thank you very much brave a brave guy and a friend
00:31:16thank you Tom senator majority whip John Barrasso John thank you very much you have all these senators I'm going to get in trouble I'm not going to read all their names I'll be reading all day we'll be talking about Charlie in about 45 minutes from now we can't do that so all of the senators there's so many of you thank you very much I do
00:31:46leading properly do you agree Mike the team the two of these guys have been fantastic so to Senator Thune I want to thank you very much incredible job watch him this morning and he was out there pounding them this morning on television too and John Barrasso thank you for the work you've done and congratulations on your success but I want to thank you all and all of the congress people that are here and I see I we have our attorney general here so and you are doing a fantastic job thank you very much Pam thank you
00:32:16thank you very much we have everybody wow that's incredible okay I'm not going to do anymore I'm going to be here too long but I just want to thank you have given him such support but he always gave you such support that's why you're here and very unusual Charles James Kirk was a visionary and one of the greatest figures of his generation he was truly an amazing figure and growing leaps and bounds he knew that the fight
00:32:46to preserve our heritage is waged not only on the battlefield and in the halls of power of which we have tremendous power here including the head of a place called war we call it now war we had defense we had our secretary of defense now we have a secretary of war and somehow I think it's more emblematic and hopefully we'll never have to use war but the fact that we're ready is very good peace through strength is very important but also in the hearts of our
00:33:16nation's youth that's where Charlie rode strongest at age 18 that inside inspired Charlie to found the organization that ultimately touched the lives of millions and millions of people and so many young people that nobody's ever seen anything like it frankly turning point USA it's amazing and it's actually bigger now it's become bigger in the last few weeks than Charlie ever thought
00:33:43I think his end vision in many years from now would have been just a fraction of what it turned out to be in a couple of weeks right it's amazing with hard work and joyful spirit and endless enthusiasm and determination and he did have great enthusiasm you know I always say you need enthusiasm to be successful he had great enthusiasm Charlie grew turning point into the largest conservative youth organization in the entire country
00:34:13he had a personal bond with countless young conservatives he fought for free speech religious liberty strong borders and a very strong and proud America in everything he did he put America first he really put America first and ultimately Charlie became more than a leader of an important organization he became the leader of historic movements all over the country there were movements individual movements one movement
00:34:43everything he did was historic and a true evangelist for the cause of freedom and the word of almighty God God was very important to Charlie he would say you know if you don't have religion you're not going to have a strong country it's true he was so wise beyond his years you know I talked to him sometimes I said this guy is like a young guy he was really a wise man
00:35:13I don't know I have no idea why what the hell was he thinking he said you're going to win sir I said you know I'm running against 17 senators and a lot of tough people and governors we have all these people and he said no you're going to win sir he said not going to be close and he made it happen he helped make it happen I'll tell you that without him who knows what would be maybe you'd have Kamala standing here today that would not be good
00:35:43I will tell you Javier you don't know who Kamala is promise it would not be good you agree with that Howard he also mobilized countless citizens to go vote it's called go vote very simple and with his help in 2024 we won more young people than any Republican by far in the history of our country and we won the popular vote we won the swing states all seven of them remember they said oh well if Trump could win four that would be nice I wouldn't seven by a lot of
00:36:13by a landslide but the popular vote was massive and we won the electoral college remember they said well it's going to be very hard I'd say 270 well we got 312 to 226 and then we won something called districts and councils and different things but in one case we won 2750 to 525 that's the one where you see the map is almost entirely red except they have a little
00:36:43blue line on one side and a little blue line meaning New York and a little bit Los Angeles I have a feeling that if the vote were 100% we would have won that too you want to know the truth but he knew and he knew very well and he also understood honesty and he was always concerned with honesty he said the only way we can lose is if the cheating gets so bad and that's where we came up with a little phrase too big to rig we said go out and vote
00:37:12just go out and vote just go out and vote and we had that remember we used to say that all the time because people would say oh they're going to win we don't have to vote let's go to a movie we'll come home and watch later and he wasn't about that so we had we come up to with really together we came up with that phrase we're going to make it too big I never made a speech where I didn't say at the end now look the polls are showing good don't believe the polls said we're going to make it Susie right too big
00:37:42win by that doesn't matter pretend we're losing you got to go out about they voted and at 902 the whole thing was over right 902 remember they said oh this could go a few days well what a few minutes 902 and he knew that and I felt it but he knew it he knew it I think he knew it more than anybody
00:38:01but Charlie never missed an opportunity to remind us of the Judeo Christian principles of our nation's founding or to share his deep Christian faith in his final moments Charlie testified to the greatness of America and to the glory of our Savior with whom he now rests in heaven and he is going to make heaven I said I'm not sure I can make it but he's going to make it he's there he's looking down on us right now it's so incredible look at this how this turned out
00:38:29look at this how this turned out this was supposed to be so dark and cloudy not dark and cloudy is it look at that how beautiful that is there's no artist that can can capture it as beautiful as it is today wow it's amazing as I said on the day that he was assassinated Charlie Kirk was a martyr for truth and for freedom and from Socrates to think and to Saint Peter from Abraham
00:38:59Lincoln to Martin Luther King those who changed history the most and he really did have always risked their lives for causes they were put on earth to defend he was put on earth to do exactly what he was doing he didn't want to waste time he would have been a top student at any college in the country I know the college as well he was smarter than the guys there he was so smart but he almost I guess didn't have the time it was he knew what he wanted to do it wasn't like I want to sit in the classroom
00:39:29for four years listening to people teach me liberal principles because they were never going to teach him that anyway but he didn't have the time he really didn't have the time but every time the enemies of goodness and virtue tried to silence the voice of righteous and noble leaders like Charlie they fail they seem to fail ultimately they look like they're doing well and then they end up failing because the truth has been unrelenting over the years over history
00:39:59they've got a power that others don't have and very few people will ever have so today like those martyrs before him Charlie's voice his message and his legacy are stronger and greater than ever before they are greater than ever before
00:40:14look this is a horrible event but it brought out the greatness of Charlie nothing could have ever supplanted this it's incredible the way people are talking about him and with great love I mean I read so many stories about some of the enemies but I watch the enemies and it's hard for them to speak badly about him because they just don't and then you do have people in the days since Charlie's killing we've seen
00:40:44exactly why our country so dearly needed his example we've watched legions of far left radicals resort to desperate acts of violence and terror because they know that their ideas and arguments are persuading no one they know that they're failing they have the devil's ideology and they're failing and they know it they feel it and they become violent they seem to become very violent on the left
00:41:13they've rammed vehicles into federal law enforcement fired sniper rifles at ICE agents and me you know but I was I made a turn at a good time I made a turn at a good time I turned to the right Charlie couldn't believe it actually he said how the hell did you make that turn I said I don't know
00:41:35but fired rifles and threatened the lives of our Supreme Court justices are great justices they have to be protected we just issued a lot of money 60 million dollars to protect the Supreme Court justices very important we can't let anything happen in places of worship we're protecting our people we've seen that a candidate for attorney general in Virginia boasted that he would
00:42:04want to see the Republican legislature a legislator in Virginia shot in the head and to see his children murdered he actually said this and now he continues to run for office and most people continue to back him but he said he wants his man shot he said shot in the head and to see his children murdered
00:42:25and they keep running pretty amazing right that's a bad one let's see how that turns out but that's a really bad one nobody's heard that one before especially in the wake of Charlie's assassination our country must have absolutely no tolerance for this radical left violence extremism and terror we're done with the angry mobs and we're not going to let our cities be unsafe we're going to make sure our cities are safe when you have Chicago where they had four thousand
00:42:55people murdered over a very short period of time four thousand people and then we have a governor stand up and say oh things are going swimmingly no they're not we're going to make Chicago safe just like we're going to make look what we did in DC it's so nice that we started here because this was one of the most violent places in the United States it'd be dangerous to be right out here but you couldn't go to a restaurant the restaurants were all dying the whole place was dying you'd have these gorgeous look at the
00:43:25Washington monument over there you'd have these gorgeous buildings and monuments and structures and people were afraid to leave their apartment they were afraid to go to work they'd get into an uber and they'd feel safe and then the uber would be attacked they thought they made it the safety and then the uber was attacked on the trip in but we've done a great job and now it's considered a totally safe city we haven't had problems took us 12 days to make it great we took out
00:43:54pay them 1700 hard criminals career criminals in many cases but these are hardened criminals many of them came in through the biden open borders we brought them back to the countries and a couple were so violent that we put them in jail we don't want to take a chance that they could get back in because no matter how good we do somebody can sneak in we did they were so violent and so so bad one arrested 28 times every time he left prison he'd get into a violent incident
00:44:24we put him away for a long time but we're done with the angry mobs we're done with it this is such an unbelievable place right now you take a look where you can walk down the middle of the street with your wife or your husband your children can walk they can walk alone it doesn't matter they can walk anywhere in Washington and they're safe now
00:44:54even killed they'd come in from indiana they'd come in from iowa they'd come from florida to see their nation's capital and somebody would have to call the parents i'm sorry but your son or your daughter's been killed
00:45:06not anymore you hear those sirens going off that's good that's a good sound
00:45:11that means they either got the bad guy or they're going to stop the bad guy you didn't hear that sound because nobody wanted to do anything
00:45:18nobody listen to the beauty of that sound seriously and that's the real deal sirens they're not politically
00:45:27correct sirens you hear they're about three miles away that's great what a beautiful sound they're stopping
00:45:33crime that's what they're doing so we're done with the voices of fools they're fools
00:45:40and death threats and we're going to make our cities safe and i thought it was charlie's one of
00:45:46his biggest dreams was that he couldn't believe it uh chicago is going to be a great city again
00:45:52we've already you know we sent people in there six months ago and
00:45:56this governor said well crime is down yeah that's because we had the fbi in there for six months
00:46:01just preparing it for the bigger surge and they've done a great job the cash and the fbi
00:46:07they've done a great job and they love doing it you know they love being able to do it they were
00:46:12restricted from doing it they couldn't do anything and uh now they're totally unrestricted they all
00:46:19they have to do is stop crime and they're doing it by the way memphis as you know you heard they went
00:46:24in about a week ago one of the most dangerous places in the country really in the world it's not just
00:46:30the country they have very few cities that would compare to some of these cities you go to afghanistan
00:46:35you say oh that's unsafe well the crime numbers are much better than the crime numbers in places
00:46:43that we have so memphis i understand is doing unbelievably in one week it's like a different
00:46:48place and this took 12 days and then after that we just perfected it but after 12 days we had good
00:46:54safety here after one month it's like uh it's really amazing and by the way restaurants are booming
00:47:02restaurants are opening up the big problem we have you can't get into a restaurant in dc anymore
00:47:07so they're opening up it's a beautiful thing to see it's called safety it's called law enforcement
00:47:13and letting them do their job and that's why i said last month that i have directed the attorney general and
00:47:20the department of homeland security to confront the very real threat of left-wing terrorism in our
00:47:25country it's a real threat not when you confront it it's not because they're not brave people in fact
00:47:33they're cowards when you confront them they immediately fold you have to see them fold you
00:47:39have to see them crying they fold but it includes dismantling the networks that fund them and finance
00:47:47them and we're finding out who those networks are we already know quite a few of them
00:47:51when you see these violent incidents and then you see people holding this gorgeous sign with beautiful
00:47:59wood beautiful cardboard wood everything everything's perfect paint job and they're all the same there
00:48:07are thousands of them you know that they weren't made in the basement out of love they were made by
00:48:15anarchists and in some cases wealthy i'll probably find some of my nice friends that
00:48:21are up there being so nice to me especially lately they're being very nice but uh it surprises you who
00:48:29they may be and you almost wonder why why why would they do it but they're hurting our country and
00:48:35we're really taking it back one by one if we didn't go into los angeles early on in the administration
00:48:42the commissioner the chief of police los angeles said if they didn't go in we would have lost our
00:48:48city now they already lost 25 000 houses to fire because they wouldn't let the water come in from
00:48:52the pacific northwest which they should have done i said you better do it they didn't do it and we had
00:49:0025 000 homes where they had no water in the sprinklers they had no water in the fire hydrants
00:49:06it would have been a different kind of a thing if they did what they were supposed to do we had a break
00:49:10in we broke in and had the water come down they actually they said for the environment
00:49:14great they lost 25 000 houses it's uh incredible but the commissioner said without the federal
00:49:20government and president trump's intervention we would have lost the entire city and we have the
00:49:26olympics going there soon i got the olympics we have the olympics we have the world cup
00:49:31and we have most importantly we have the 250th anniversary of our country that's going to be
00:49:37most important and all of these things are happening and we're going to have safe
00:49:41cities we're going to have very very safe cities so one month after charlie's death we still feel
00:49:46the terrible shock and the pain of his loss like just about nobody i can think of charlie kirk was
00:49:54one of a kind he was unstoppable and he really was boy when he had an idea in his head oh he was
00:50:01he would call me sir please you haven't done it yet i said charlie relax
00:50:06just relax he didn't relax he called me the next day again it got it done but he was like indomitable and
00:50:15always will be he's really irreplaceable nobody going to replace him but they're going to do great
00:50:20but you can't replace that kind of person and that kind of talent frankly the word talent is an
00:50:26important word but that kind of talent so we hold his memory in our hearts forever every single day of
00:50:32this administration we will continue to carry out the mission for which he lived and he really did he
00:50:38lived for this country he lived for his wife and his family but he lived for this country too
00:50:43in charlie's honor we will continue like we have been to fight fight fight and to win win win we're
00:50:51going to win so much
00:50:56so the presidential medal of freedom is a big deal you have the congressional medal of honor
00:51:04military and the presidential medal of freedom which is civilian and the presidential medal of
00:51:11freedom is a really big deal very few people get it very few people frankly qualify it's a decision of
00:51:18the president but it's a qualification that's a very hard one to to get
00:51:23and i would like to ask if i might the military aid to read
00:51:28charles james kirk's citation for the presidential medal of freedom thank you very much thank you
00:51:53the presidential medal of freedom is awarded to charles james kirk accepting on behalf of charlie is his
00:52:07wife mrs erica kirk charlie kirk was one of the most influential american political figures of his
00:52:15generation at just 18 years old he founded turning point usa and grew it into the largest conservative
00:52:22youth organization in the nation for over a decade he tirelessly traveled the country leading a
00:52:28movement to restore respect for our founding principles reawaken our national identity and
00:52:35inspire a renewed spirit of religious devotion he was one of the great debaters and communicators of his
00:52:43in his time despite receiving repeated threats he remained undeterred and modeled courage logic humor
00:52:52and grace to the next generation on september 10th 2025 at age 31 charlie kirk was assassinated while
00:53:01addressing a group of students the united states honors him of a martyr for truth and freedom
00:53:18in james kirk was one of the greatest dip그래 from church university to be one of the great
00:53:26Grazie.
00:53:56Thank you, Mr. President, for honoring my husband in such a profound and meaningful way.
00:54:25And thank you for making this event a priority amid the peace process in the Middle East.
00:54:32Thank you.
00:54:33Very grateful.
00:54:35Charlie always admired your commitment to freedom, and that's something that both of you shared.
00:54:45So thank you.
00:54:46Your support of our family and the work that Charlie devoted his life to will be something I cherish forever.
00:54:57So thank you.
00:54:58To our gracious First Lady in her office for making this event possible, thank you as well.
00:55:06It's beautiful.
00:55:07To Vice President and the lovely Usha Vance, your friendship has been an unbelievable encouragement.
00:55:17Thank you.
00:55:17And to all our friends and family that are here and watching from all around the world, thank you for loving us.
00:55:28Thank you for praying for us and for believing in what Charlie believed in.
00:55:33And to our Turning Point USA staff and the Charlie Kirk Show staff, we love you more than you could ever know.
00:55:44And to the Turning Point USA chapters that are watching all across America right now,
00:55:50You are the heartbeat of this future and of this movement.
00:56:00Everything that Charlie built, you guys are the legacy holders of that.
00:56:05You are living proof that his mission did not die with him.
00:56:10It lives through you.
00:56:12And Charlie always said the next generation will decide whether freedom endures.
00:56:16And because of you, I know that freedom will endure.
00:56:22It will.
00:56:23And today we're gathered not only to celebrate Charlie's birthday,
00:56:29But to honor a truth that he gave his entire life to defend, and that's freedom.
00:56:35The very existence of the Presidential Medal of Freedom reminds us that
00:56:39The national interest of the United States has always been freedom.
00:56:45Our founders etched it into the preamble of our Constitution.
00:56:49And those words are not relics on parchment.
00:56:55They are a living covenant.
00:56:57The blessings of liberty are not man's invention.
00:57:01They are God's endowment.
00:57:04Charlie lived for those blessings, not as abstract words, but as sacred promises.
00:57:09He used to love to journal about this topic all the time,
00:57:15And with such a heart postured of gratitude.
00:57:20And he believed that liberty was both a right and a responsibility.
00:57:25And he used to say,
00:57:27Freedom is the ability to do what is right without fear.
00:57:31And that's how he lived.
00:57:34He was free from fear.
00:57:38He was free from compromise.
00:57:41Free from anything that could enslave his soul.
00:57:46His name, Charles, literally means free man.
00:57:51And that's exactly who my husband was.
00:57:53He was a free man.
00:57:54And from the time I met him,
00:57:58Sitting across from him,
00:58:01Being interviewed,
00:58:03On politics and philosophy and theology,
00:58:07Anything that Charlie loved,
00:58:08Any topic he loved,
00:58:10And
00:58:12I just saw the fire in his soul.
00:58:16And there was this
00:58:17Divine restlessness within him
00:58:21That came from knowing God placed him on this earth
00:58:23To protect something very, very sacred.
00:58:28For all of us.
00:58:29And he never stopped fighting for people to experience freedom.
00:58:33He didn't.
00:58:35Charlie often said that without God,
00:58:38Freedom becomes chaos.
00:58:40And he believed liberty could only survive when anchored to truth.
00:58:46And I remember in one of his speeches,
00:58:48He told the audience that the opposite of liberty
00:58:53Isn't law.
00:58:57He said it's captivity.
00:58:59And that the freest people in the world
00:59:01Are those whose hearts belong to Christ.
00:59:05But what's so powerful is that Charlie had the ability
00:59:08To communicate
00:59:10So brilliantly across all generations.
00:59:14And he reminded us that
00:59:17In a world that tells us freedom is
00:59:19Doing whatever you want to do,
00:59:22The real freedom
00:59:23Is the power to live freely
00:59:26And to do what is right.
00:59:29And in one of his journal entries,
00:59:30He wrote that he wanted everyone to know
00:59:32That you can't have liberty
00:59:34Without moral responsibility.
00:59:38Freedom divorced from faith
00:59:40Eventually just destroys itself.
00:59:42And what's so fascinating about all of this is
00:59:46Looking back
00:59:48These past 12 years
00:59:50Of Turning Point USA
00:59:51And his mission
00:59:52There's almost this veil of
00:59:55Of sacredness
00:59:57Because what I realize is that
01:00:00While he was
01:00:01Building an organization
01:00:03He was also building a movement
01:00:05One that called people back to God
01:00:09Back to truth
01:00:11And a movement that was
01:00:14Filled with courage
01:00:15And ironically for a man
01:00:19Who impacted millions
01:00:20Charlie never desired to be
01:00:23The center of attention
01:00:24He just wasn't
01:00:26My husband was not
01:00:27A man of extravagance
01:00:28He loved simple
01:00:31But deeply meaningful things
01:00:34Truly
01:00:35He loved his late night walks
01:00:38He loved buying
01:00:40More books
01:00:41Than he could ever read
01:00:42Because he felt
01:00:43There was no such thing
01:00:44As a book budget
01:00:45And
01:00:47He loved being able
01:00:49To read to our kids
01:00:50The same
01:00:51Bedtime story on repeat
01:00:52Because he knew
01:00:53It was their favorite
01:00:54And
01:00:55But to him
01:00:56That was special
01:00:57And he loved to sit in the sun
01:01:00On a Saturday morning
01:01:01With his cup of decaf coffee
01:01:03And his phone was off
01:01:05Because he was honoring
01:01:05The Sabbath
01:01:06And for him
01:01:07It was that moment
01:01:08To catch his breath
01:01:09And just
01:01:10Be in peace
01:01:12Because he was
01:01:14Unreachable at the moment
01:01:15And he preferred
01:01:17Quiet birthdays
01:01:18But that never stopped me
01:01:21From telling him
01:01:22I told him every single year
01:01:23I said baby
01:01:24I love your birthday
01:01:26I said because
01:01:28It's the day that
01:01:28God knew the world
01:01:29Couldn't go another day
01:01:30Without you
01:01:31And so the rhythm
01:01:38Of our usual birthday
01:01:39Celebration for him
01:01:40Was
01:01:41Mint ice cream
01:01:44Mint chocolate chip ice cream
01:01:45He only had it twice a year
01:01:46On his birthday
01:01:47On 4th of July
01:01:48It's just
01:01:50And
01:01:51And then
01:01:53After that
01:01:54He was
01:01:55Back to work
01:01:56As usual
01:01:57But
01:01:57Last year
01:01:58His one
01:01:59Birthday wish
01:02:00Was to see
01:02:00The Oregon Ducks
01:02:01Play the Ohio State
01:02:02And
01:02:04They won
01:02:04Oregon won
01:02:05That night
01:02:05And it was by far
01:02:07One of the most
01:02:07Memorable nights
01:02:08Of his birthday
01:02:09Experience
01:02:10Of his life
01:02:11Until today
01:02:12And so
01:02:14Honestly
01:02:15President Trump
01:02:16I have
01:02:17Spent
01:02:18Seven and a half years
01:02:19Trying to find
01:02:20The perfect
01:02:21Birthday gift
01:02:22For Charlie
01:02:22And it's so
01:02:24Difficult
01:02:25And those of you
01:02:25That have spouses
01:02:26Or loved ones
01:02:27You know how difficult
01:02:28It is sometimes
01:02:28To buy a gift
01:02:29For someone that you love
01:02:30Because he wasn't
01:02:32A materialistic man
01:02:33So that also
01:02:33Did not help
01:02:34But
01:02:35Now I can say
01:02:36With confidence
01:02:37Mr. President
01:02:37That you have given him
01:02:39The best birthday gift
01:02:41He could ever have
01:02:42It's such an honor
01:02:53And the recognition
01:02:55Of
01:02:55A life lived
01:02:57For defending freedom
01:02:59And that's what
01:03:00Charlie fought for
01:03:01Until his last breath
01:03:02And it was written
01:03:05Across his chest
01:03:06In those final moments
01:03:07On one of
01:03:08His simple t-shirts
01:03:09That always carried
01:03:10A message
01:03:12And this one
01:03:13Bearing a single word
01:03:16Freedom
01:03:16That was the banner
01:03:19Over his life
01:03:20And that shirt
01:03:21Was a declaration
01:03:22The same declaration
01:03:24He made in every speech
01:03:26Every campus visit
01:03:28Every time
01:03:28He shared the gospel
01:03:29At a church
01:03:30Every sleepless night
01:03:32That he would spend
01:03:33Praying for the youth
01:03:34Of this nation
01:03:35And planning for the future
01:03:38Of our country
01:03:38And just pressing upon them
01:03:40That
01:03:40When we defend liberty
01:03:42We defend the soul
01:03:43Of our nation
01:03:44My husband never told
01:03:47Anyone what to say
01:03:48He never did
01:03:49He never told anyone
01:03:51What to say
01:03:51He would just encourage
01:03:53Them to think
01:03:54He would encourage them
01:03:56To think outside
01:03:57Of the traditional
01:03:58Political labels
01:03:59He would want them
01:04:02To think in a way
01:04:03That was
01:04:03Anchored in wisdom
01:04:05And truth
01:04:06But he would never
01:04:08Tell anyone
01:04:08What to say
01:04:09Charlie wasn't content
01:04:13To simply admire freedom
01:04:15He wanted to multiply it
01:04:16He wanted to multiply freedom
01:04:18He wanted young people
01:04:20To taste it
01:04:21And to understand it
01:04:22And defend it
01:04:24He wanted them to see
01:04:26That liberty isn't
01:04:28Self-indulgence
01:04:29It's self-governance
01:04:30Under God
01:04:31He wanted them to see that
01:04:34And every day
01:04:36I'd see him getting ready
01:04:36For work
01:04:37He'd put on his cross
01:04:39Necklace
01:04:39He'd put his ring
01:04:40On his finger
01:04:41And the
01:04:43The boldness
01:04:45In his demeanor
01:04:45Was always fearlessness
01:04:47He wasn't afraid
01:04:48He was never afraid
01:04:50And his daily actions
01:04:52Whether in office
01:04:53Or on campus
01:04:54Or at a church
01:04:55It was always without fear
01:04:57That was his creed
01:04:59That is how he lived out
01:05:01Every single day
01:05:02He didn't fear being slandered
01:05:04He did not
01:05:05He didn't fear losing friends
01:05:06I can tell you that
01:05:07He didn't
01:05:08He didn't care
01:05:09He stood for truth
01:05:12And stood for freedom
01:05:12And he did not
01:05:13Everything else
01:05:15Was just noise to him
01:05:16And it's because
01:05:18His confidence in Christ
01:05:19Was absolute
01:05:20That's why
01:05:22There was no limit
01:05:25No limit
01:05:26No limit to what
01:05:27He would have sacrificed
01:05:28To defend freedom
01:05:29For all
01:05:30And if the moment
01:05:31Had come
01:05:32He probably would have
01:05:33Run for president
01:05:34But not out of ambition
01:05:35He would only have done it
01:05:37If that was something
01:05:38That he believed
01:05:40That his country needed
01:05:41From a servant's heart standpoint
01:05:42And Charlie lived
01:05:45Only 31 short years
01:05:47I was 32
01:05:48But on this side of heaven
01:05:50But
01:05:50He lived
01:05:54He lived
01:05:56Every single second
01:05:57He lived
01:05:57Filled every single day
01:06:00With purpose
01:06:01And he fought for truth
01:06:02When it was unpopular
01:06:03And he stood for God
01:06:05When it was costly
01:06:06But that's what
01:06:06We're called to do
01:06:07Surprisingly enough
01:06:10He did pray for his enemies
01:06:12Which is very hard
01:06:14But he did
01:06:14He did
01:06:16He did
01:06:18No one else
01:06:23I mean I saw him do it
01:06:25No he never did it
01:06:26In front of anyone else
01:06:26But I can attest to that
01:06:27But
01:06:29He also loved people
01:06:31When it was inconvenient
01:06:32And he ran his race
01:06:34With endurance
01:06:34And he kept the faith
01:06:35And now he wears
01:06:37The crown of a righteous martyr
01:06:38And for me
01:06:41And for our children
01:06:42The truth really studies
01:06:46Our grief
01:06:46Because
01:06:47Heaven gained
01:06:50What earth
01:06:50Could no longer
01:06:51Contain
01:06:52A free man
01:06:54Made fully free
01:06:55To all watching
01:06:59This is
01:07:00This is not a ceremony
01:07:02This is a commissioning
01:07:04And my message is simple
01:07:07I want you to be
01:07:10The embodiment
01:07:11Of this medal
01:07:12I do
01:07:14I want you to free yourself
01:07:16From fear
01:07:17I want you to stand
01:07:19Courageously in the truth
01:07:21Listen for the still
01:07:23Small voice of God
01:07:25And remember that
01:07:28While freedom
01:07:29Is inherited in this country
01:07:31Each of us must be
01:07:33Intentional stewards
01:07:34Every single day
01:07:36God began a mighty work
01:07:39Through my husband
01:07:40And I intend to see it through
01:07:41And the torch
01:07:43Is in our hands now
01:07:44It's in mine
01:07:45It's in yours
01:07:45It's in all of yours
01:07:46It's in all the students
01:07:47With Turning Point USA
01:07:48And before I close
01:07:53I'll share with you
01:07:54That I asked our daughter
01:07:56What she would like to say
01:07:58To daddy
01:07:59For his birthday
01:08:00Excuse me
01:08:02She said
01:08:11Happy birthday daddy
01:08:15I want to give you
01:08:18A stuffed animal
01:08:19I want you to eat
01:08:30A cupcake with ice cream
01:08:31And I want you to go
01:08:33Have a birthday surprise
01:08:35I love you
01:08:37That's what she said
01:08:37And while our son
01:08:41He's precious
01:08:42He can't yet speak
01:08:44In classic
01:08:46Kirk family fashion
01:08:47His actions
01:08:48Spoke louder than his words
01:08:49And his gift to you
01:08:50Charlie and myself
01:08:52For that matter
01:08:52Was deciding to become
01:08:54The man of the house
01:08:55And be fully potty trained
01:08:56At 16 months
01:08:57But Charlie baby
01:09:00I know that
01:09:01You're celebrating
01:09:02In heaven today
01:09:02But gosh
01:09:03I miss you
01:09:03We miss you
01:09:05And we love you
01:09:07And we promise
01:09:08We'll
01:09:08We'll make you proud
01:09:11And
01:09:11Charlie's life
01:09:13Was proof
01:09:14That freedom
01:09:15Is not a theory
01:09:16It's a testimony
01:09:16He showed us
01:09:19That liberty begins
01:09:20Not in the halls
01:09:21Of power
01:09:21But in the man
01:09:22Of a heart
01:09:22Surrendered to God
01:09:24And so today
01:09:26As we honor Charlie
01:09:27With this
01:09:29Incredible
01:09:30Presidential medal
01:09:32Of freedom
01:09:32On his birthday
01:09:34I stand here
01:09:36With tears
01:09:37And just
01:09:38A humbled heart
01:09:39And spirit
01:09:39Because
01:09:40His story
01:09:42Reminds us all
01:09:42That
01:09:43To live free
01:09:46Is the greatest gift
01:09:47But to die free
01:09:51Is the greatest victory
01:09:52Happy birthday
01:09:56My Charlie
01:09:57Happy freedom day
01:09:59Thank you
01:10:00Thank you
01:10:00Thank you
01:10:01Thank you
01:10:03Thank you
01:10:03Thank you
01:10:03Thank you
01:10:04Thank you
01:10:17Thank you
01:10:19Grazie a tutti.
01:10:49Grazie a tutti.
01:11:19Grazie a tutti.
