Chatham Town FC's first FA Cup opponent in nearly a century revealed

The Chats will head to Derbyshire to face National League North side, Buxton, for their first FA Cup match in 97 years.   Alfie Rowe reports

00:00What starts out as a training day like any other is really anything but.

00:07Players calmly run through their drills, but fans can barely contain their excitement.

00:13It's probably the best day of Chatham Town Sporting Life.

00:16I've been grinning since 5 past 5 on Saturday evening.

00:19Chatham in the first round of the FA Cup, you cannot go wrong.

00:23As night falls over the stadium, attention turns to the big question.

00:28Who will Chatham Town play in the first round of the FA Cup?

00:33Crowds gather and the draw begins.

00:36Anticipation builds as fixture after fixture is announced.

00:40And then...

00:43National League North team, Buxton FC are the chosen opponent.

00:48It was one of them we kind of wanted a big draw if we could in terms of from a revenue point of view,

00:54but from a winnable game it's definitely achievable.

00:57It would have been better maybe in regards to bigger team, bigger club, bigger ticket sales and things like that.

01:03But...

01:04Yeah, more chance of probably getting through into the next round.

01:07And then maybe we'll meet a bigger team in the next round.

01:09I'm quite confident the boys will do it.

01:11It's a winnable game.

01:12Obviously we would have liked a bigger team away for a good away day,

01:15but I think it's winnable. Get us through to the second round I reckon.

01:18We're delighted. So obviously the Northern team, we don't know much about them.

01:22However, it's a good chance obviously us to try and get into the second round of National League Northside.

01:28Try and get into the second round. Obviously the club haven't done that for a lot of years.

01:31So ideally it's probably a really good opportunity to do it.

01:34And yeah, we're all really excited about the next game really.

01:37Despite some reservations, fans are sure to get behind the team.

01:45And with the Chats faithful in the stands, all that's left is for the boys to finish the job on the pitch.
