00:00So what was the decision made by Cabinet today regarding the new swimming pool?
00:04So it was quite informative as you saw from the council officers as well and this is something
00:09we've been looking at. I think that what has spearheaded this is the pledge from Government
00:15and the Chancellor in announcing that funding hopefully will be awarded to Peterborough for
00:21a new swimming pool and I think we've got to have a look at a number of factors. First
00:28of all the under provision of swimming in the city. We've got children who used to use
00:33the regional swimming pool that had to be demolished as a result of RAC two years ago and
00:39since then the city has been crying out for swimming provision and having it in a city
00:45centre location obviously makes for the scope of more development around it as well. Increased
00:52footfall into the city, having a learner pool, a fitness suite, community rooms, 300 seater
00:58area. It's something that is deliverable, it's achievable. Let's not forget that our
01:03CPCA Mayor Paul Bristow as well has a stake in this in terms of coming together. It really
01:10is a success story, cross party. Our MPs have made some phenomenal contributions. Andrew Pace
01:16has been front and centre in driving those negotiations forward and ensuring that we have
01:22a good pool. And let's not forget it's about maintenance as well. What we don't want is
01:28to have a big project and a venture which we can't afford to maintain over time. So it's
01:35really important that our ambitions, while being ambitious, there's nothing wrong with
01:39being ambitious. If there was a scope for it, we would definitely have a 50 metre pool.
01:45But at this moment in time, what seems deliverable and realistic and us being an honest, open
01:52and transparent administration is to try and put forward a case for something for our city
01:58that would come sooner rather than later and that we can maintain in many years to come.
