Travel disrupted across Belgium as general strike against proposed public spending cuts continues

00:00A national general's strike in Belgium disrupted transport and public services across the country on Tuesday.
00:09The strike is led by the country's main trade unions in opposition to the planned budget cuts
00:14by Flemish nationalist Partee Weaver's coalition government.
00:20Disruptions to public services such as rubbish collection were announced ahead of the strike.
00:25Strikes were also taking place in all Belgian prisons.
00:28All departing flights were grounded at both Brussels and Charleroi Airport
00:33while all arriving flights at Charleroi were cancelled or diverted.
00:38The majority of metro bus and tram lines were also not running in Brussels
00:43as a protest march moved through the capital.
00:49Several protesters were arrested after some started small fires near the Brussels ring road
00:55and others clashed with local authorities.
00:58The protests are expected to ramp up pressure on Weaver's coalition government
01:02which on Monday failed to reach a budget agreement.
