00:00I remember Super Soakers, our trampoline, playing with the neighbor kids.
00:05What a happy scene.
00:07Super Nintendo and Game Boy when we had to be inside because of reasons we couldn't have foreseen.
00:13We even caught frogs and once a salamander in our window wells.
00:17It's funny because now they seem empty and long abandoned.
00:21Or we don't check anymore to see if they're still there.
00:23Oh well.
00:24And we used to get treats from the ice cream truck we called the Ding Ding Man for the bell that would ring or the song that would spring from that.
00:33Freeze pops.
00:33We called them freezies in the plastic sleeves.
00:36We got so high off the sugar it was maddening.
00:39Our bikes we had to wheel.
00:40Those were the days.
00:43I wouldn't be here today if the old days didn't shape my ways.
00:48Because back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore.
00:52But sometimes I think about how things had been back then.
00:57I went to Goodwin Elementary.
01:00I was the chunky kid that seemed like hell for me.
01:02Hot lunch I used to love.
01:04But it was junk.
01:05But most days my dear mama, she would pack a lunch.
01:09Recess, we would scatter and have some fun.
01:13It wouldn't last too long.
01:14But we would laugh and run.
01:16When we got older, it was the teen center, sports, arcade games, and greasy pizza.
01:22And a movie in front with seats that we'd be on.
01:25I couldn't sit for too long.
01:27I guess the movie was stupid or I just wanted to shoot some pool more.
01:32Because those were the days.
01:33I wouldn't be here today if the old days didn't shape my ways.
01:39Because back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore.
01:43But sometimes I sit and think how things had been back then.
01:48That sure was the life.
01:49But we didn't know it.
01:51I didn't know much of poor folks.
01:53They didn't show it.
01:54We had family vacations.
01:57That was bourgeois.
01:57Because it takes money and time off from a time clock.
02:02When we would go to church, I didn't know then that it would shape my moral stance and the whole thing.
02:09How was I to know some songs in Sunday school would be so fundamental for a gestational spirit?
02:16I guess I took it more serious than the other children.
02:19Or made the most out of all those lessons or maybe both things.
02:22Because here I am, after all, reminiscing.
02:25But all I know is it made a mark and I'm grateful for that.
02:29And you know what?
02:30Life's as good as it was then.
02:32So I'll go on and see where the road bends and where it ends.
02:42Damn.
02:43Here we go again.
02:45Everything I got made me everything I am.
02:49Damn.
02:52Damn.
02:53Damn.
02:55Damn.
02:57Come and wrapped on a beat, I made myself a fan.
03:00Now everything I got made me everything I am.
