Though I could speak a thousand tongues — of angels and of men, And knew the secrets of the world, and prophesied again, Though all of knowledge I possessed, and faith that moves the sea, I’d still be nothing, all would fade — if love were lost in me.
If all my wealth I gave away, and clothed the poor each day, If wonders great my hands performed, and life itself I’d lay, If I were wise, or ruled with might, and all the world would view, It all would profit me no more, if love I never knew!
For love is patient, love is kind, love lives within the truth, It envies not, nor burns with wrath, nor joins deceit or sleuth. It seeks not gain, nor boasts of self, nor pride to build its throne, It humbly bears, forgives the fault, and calls no sin its own.
Love always trusts, believes in all, and hopes through every flame, When mocked or wronged, it suffers still, and never shifts its aim. It finds no joy in evil’s path, nor in another’s fall, It hides, protects, and testifies — God’s love surpasses all!
And now remain these three divine: Hope... Love... and Faith entwined... Without them true repentance can't be found.
Let’s seek the gifts that come from God, desire them like the dew, But greater than them all will be — the LOVE that’s ever true!
