00:00In this FreeCAD tutorial, you learn how to make an aesthetic model with thickness, patterns and cuts.
00:11To start with the base of the model, create a new sketch in the part design workbench.
00:17Select the bottom plane to sketch on.
00:20Select the centered rectangle tool.
00:22Start sketching on the origin. Enter a horizontal distance of 90mm and a vertical distance of 60mm.
00:34Click on Close to exit the sketch.
00:39Select the Pad feature to extrude the rectangular sketch.
00:43Check the reversed box. Leave the length at 10mm and click on OK.
00:48Now select the four corner edges while holding the CTRL key.
00:57Then go to the fillet tool.
01:00Enter a radius of 5mm and click on OK.
01:06Select the top face and go to the fillet tool again.
01:11Enter a radius of 3mm.
01:14You see this fillet is all around the model.
01:16Click on OK to apply.
01:20Now select the bottom face and go to the thickness tool.
01:26Enter a thickness of 1.5mm and click on OK.
01:30Click on this button to create a new sketch.
01:46Select this plane to sketch on top of the model.
01:52Select the centered rectangle tool and start sketching on the origin.
01:55Click right mouse button to cancel if you started in the wrong position.
01:58Enter a horizontal distance of 80mm and a vertical distance of 2mm.
02:09This looks like a bug, the vertical distance was ignored.
02:12Undo two steps to remove all sketch lines.
02:16Start again and enter a horizontal distance of 80mm.
02:19Now click, instead of entering a value.
02:23Now click, instead of entering a value.
02:25Select the dimension tool.
02:28Click on a vertical line and enter a distance of 2mm.
02:31Click on close to exit the sketch.
02:38Select the pad feature to extrude the rectangular sketch.
02:43Enter a length of 1mm and click on OK to apply.
02:50Select the extrusion and go to the multi-transform tool.
02:54Right-click here and add a linear pattern.
03:03Select the vertical sketch axis for the direction.
03:07For the mode, choose Offset.
03:10Enter an offset of 5mm and also 5 occurrences.
03:14Right-click here again to add another linear pattern.
03:23Select the vertical sketch axis for the direction.
03:28Also choose the Offset mode for this pattern.
03:31And enter an offset of 5mm with 5 occurrences.
03:34Don't forget to check the reversed box to swap the pattern to the other side.
03:42Click on OK to apply.

03:48Thanks!
03:49Now create a new sketch on the same bottom plane again.
03:56Select the centered rectangle tool and start sketching on the origin.
04:00Enter the values to create a rectangle of 25 by 15mm.
04:09Click on close to exit the sketch.
04:12Select the pocket tool and check the reversed box.
04:16Also choose through all for the sake of right modeling and click on OK to apply.
04:25Now it's time to round off the ribs across the entire width.
04:31Create a new sketch on this plane for that.
04:38Select the arc by center tool.
04:42Click on the vertical axis and start here, right above the horizontal axis.
04:49And end here on the other side.
04:51Select the polyline tool.
04:58And draw a box above the arc to create a closed contour.
05:04End where you started the arc.
05:05Right click twice to exit the polyline tool.
05:11Select this line and add a vertical constraint.
05:13Click on these two vertices and then on the vertical axis.
05:25And add a symmetrical constraint.
05:27Now select the dimension tool.
05:36And select this vertex.
05:38You may want to zoom in to create this distance to the horizontal axis.
05:42Enter a distance of 0.25mm.
05:45To define this sketch, add a distance to this vertical line.
06:03Also add a radius of 1500mm to the arc.
06:07Now the arc covers the ribs entirely.
06:17Right click to exit the dimension tool.
06:19Also, this line needs to be vertical.
06:22Select it and add a vertical constraint.
06:26Now the sketch is fully constrained so you can click on close.
06:29Select the pocket tool and choose through all.
06:35This is what symmetric to plane does.
06:40The cut will also cover the other side.
06:45Check the box to see what it does.
06:50Click on OK to apply.
06:53If you made it this far, well done.
06:56You finished the model.
