00:00Quite honestly, there were some perceptions that I wanted to put on the right track.
00:09You know, the question was constantly, well, you know, why are they getting divorced so quickly?
00:15And, you know, I was, I believe, made out to be a villain.
00:19And I, after a while, I kind of revolted at that.
00:22It's like, hey, this is two people making a mutual decision.
00:27One of the grudges I had was that right before Teresa and I went on Good Morning America to announce that divorce,
00:36we agreed to each other that we would protect each other.
00:39And I don't feel like that happened.
00:42And the only person that could come to my defense was her.
00:46And the only person that could come to her defense was me.
00:49And I was disappointed that that didn't occur.
00:53And I felt like I was taking the brunt of the situation.
00:58And I go, no, wait a minute, that's not right.
01:00It's a 50-50.
01:01I hope that I answer that question in the book in a sensitive way.
01:09But, you know, on the show, you know, I asked Teresa if she was ready to quit her job.
01:16I remember sitting at the table the last dinner.
01:19Lamb chops were there and I was starving.
01:21Some of these details I remember.
01:24And we got into a conversation about her career.
01:27And she said, when I meet the right guy, I'm ready to quit.
01:31I'm ready to, you know, finish my career.
01:34And to me, what I heard was there is a woman who's going to be willing to travel,
01:40to have some adventure, to do some things that I consider and that we should consider fun.
01:45And then after the show, in conversations between the time that we were engaged and we were married,
01:54her conversation always went back to, well, I really want to keep working.
01:58And that just pretty much makes it an impossible situation.
02:04I really wanted to have that fun partner.
02:07Someone who had, you know, served out their career.
02:12They were, you know, stable, really looking forward to a healthy situation where they could go and travel and have fun.
02:19And when you take that element away, that radically changed, you know, the situation for me, the relationship for me.
02:27I'm not worried.
02:27I think she should be worried.
02:29I think, you know, there's going to be some things there that have not been said or revealed before.
02:35And I think it's time for those things to be revealed.
02:40I spoke in that book as honestly and as candidly and as sensitively as I possibly could.
02:48So I have no regrets on anything that's in that book.
02:52No regrets whatsoever.
02:53You know, we all have goals in life.
02:56We all deserve to be happy.
02:57So I certainly wish the same to her as I would all of the women and myself.
03:04And, you know, that she finds her path to, you know, her full happiness.
03:10So, and, you know, there's nothing wrong with embracing a career like she does.
03:17You know, maybe that's her source of happiness.
03:19And I think that would be wonderful.
03:21I just wish I would have known that if that's the case.
03:24Okay, that's a really good question.
03:27I think, you know, if I were to even give myself that advice, a future lead, I would say,
03:36I know you think you know what your characteristics and your morals and your values are.
03:41I know you think you do.
03:43And at a certain point in life, they've settled in.
03:47But before you go on the show, like today and over the course of the next week, write them down.
03:53And take them with you.
03:56And every night when you've made tough choices that day or you have a tough decision to make the next day,
04:03pull that sheet out and read them.
04:06And remind yourself of what you were before you got on the show.
04:11Because all that noise, the glitter, the glamour, the recognition, all of that,
04:18you work really hard to not let it change you.
04:21You really, you couldn't do it.
04:22At least I did.
04:23Worked really hard.
04:24I still want to be that normal Midwest guy.
04:27But it does.
04:28It gets under your skin just a little bit, even if just temporarily.
04:31And if you have written it down and you look at your own words, it'll help you.
