00:00this is my home for the next five days you're probably wondering how I ended up here let me
00:10take you back to a week ago I was sat by the TV scranning a pizza while watching a movie called
00:15castaway it's basically where Tom Hanks gets stranded on a desert island and he has to do
00:19everything in his power to survive as I watched this I instantly thought to myself I could do
00:23that but my little brother completely disagreed with me so for the rest of the movie we were
00:27just arguing about it and then I realised there's only one true way to see who's right I got a long
00:3312-hour flight during that I watched many desert island tutorial videos and landed in the Maldives
00:38I then hopped on a local flight which brought us to this small island had a population of about 400
00:43people and that next day it was time we are setting off to the desert island I hired a local fisherman
00:50to take me an hour and a half out of this island and with blue water being the only thing I could
00:54now see my nerves started kicking in
00:56and there it is the island I'll be spending the next five days on over a hundred miles from
01:16inhabited lands a place completely isolated from the world the second I get off this boat I am well
01:25and truly alone here we are in the middle of absolutely nowhere okay let me show you what I
01:40bought with me I tried to keep it as minimal as possible but being here five days there was a few
01:45things I needed some long-sleeved clothes fishing hooks in fishing wire a machete a basic knife head
01:50torch and of course all the camera equipment oh and if worse comes to absolute worst a satellite phone
01:56but I don't want to be using this there are four major things that I need to think about to basically
02:02survive we've got water shelter food fire if I successfully tick off all these four boxes while
02:07it may not be luxury I will survive and the most important thing is water our body can only survive
02:12like two days without it and in this blazing hot sun even less well this water looks beautiful we're
02:17not idiots we can't drink that so what am I going to do for water ta-da well that is my water supply
02:25coconuts slight problem they're pretty damn high yeah coconut trees are notoriously very tall how the
02:31f*** do I get these injury number one that is my only way of drinking so I have to find a way to get
02:44this my plan was to cut down a log branch this should work with this I could yank the coconuts out of the tree
02:53this was serving to be extremely difficult
03:05I was literally going at this for about two to three hours
03:12I can't f***ing do it it was just wasting my already limited energy
03:18I found this rope on the beach I'm gonna put my feet in and the rope
03:27I'm kind of packed to support I don't know how well this is gonna work but it's my only option left
03:33my energy levels at this point were so low but if I didn't manage to get coconuts
03:37I would be forced to use a satellite phone and give up the challenge
03:40I started using one of the palms as a kind of leverage to pull myself up from
03:51I was actually getting pretty close
03:58you can't even see me at this point but the lowest coconuts were only a few inches away from me
04:08I was so close
04:10I failed at the top of the tree there was like nothing to grip onto
04:24and while I tried it again I couldn't do anything at the top again
04:27it just was not possible
04:29like literally there but there's nothing I can do when I get to the top
04:33dehydration was becoming a big concern for me now
04:36I decided to try one more thing you see the old branch I was using was very thick and heavy
04:41it was so hard to hold up so I got a thinner branch
04:44please work
04:48this new stick was so much easier to use
04:53it was all up to this if this didn't work I just simply could not continue
04:57words cannot describe how good this drink felt and with the new stick the coconuts were flying
05:15with the coconut secured that was the first of my four needs completed another really important thing is at the bottom of coconut trees you will find these
05:29these
05:42these are brown coconuts you see the green ones contain sweet liquid coconut water and these ones
05:47are more matured and the liquid starts gaining fat and becomes milkier
05:51look at that this is the coconut meat it's absolutely banging
05:57one coconut contains about 1400 calories so the next step the food has kind of been ticked off
06:03I say kind of because it's like 98 saturated fat there's only so much of this that you can eat in a day
06:08but we had some calories we had our water and I tell you what I was in such a good mood
06:16it's quite hard to put into words how good this feels right now in paradise
06:26with sunset around the corner it was now time to worry about how I was going to sleep tonight
06:30the harsh elements the creatures comfort I had to take it all into account
06:34these mosquitoes man there were three big things that were needed for the shelter firstly a ton of
06:42sticks for the base secondly palm leaves for the roof and then something to put that all together
06:46these types of trees are what I'm looking for this is pretty cool it's like nature's rope watch this
06:56it's pretty strong with all the equipment gathered it was time to build just to give you a
07:00heads up this show is probably going to be crap I've never built one before with my lack of experience
07:06this took a lot longer than expected look at that I went deep into the night because if I didn't finish
07:13this no chance am I getting any sleep the shower started coming along nicely and as I was building it
07:22I stumbled across a little friend who I might be sharing the bed with tonight
07:30I do not know what that species was but that could be one of the most venomous spiders on the planet
07:34and I have no idea it does creep me out a bit I'm not gonna lie
07:39with the outside of the shower completed I needed to now make the inside more comfortable
07:43I found these very thick leaves and I thought they'd be perfect so I collected a ton and put it on the
07:48inside of the base oh it actually is pretty comfortable I am absolutely knackered I'll see you guys tomorrow
08:00good morning last night's sleep was not the best there's crabs like everywhere on the beach and
08:12from time to time they came into the camp which was just horrible on top of that the mosquitoes
08:21look at the mosquito bites these issues definitely needed sorting so for the crabs I grabbed tons of
08:26these types of sticks and I kind of just built a little barrier around my shelter and for the
08:30mosquito problem it brings us on to our final piece of the puzzle fire fire would also allow
08:35me to cook other foods because I was getting really sick of coconuts now creating fire out of nothing
08:41is difficult the way to do it is by friction I started off by just making a simple base where the
08:45fire would go okay I need to create an ember to start the fire and to do that this stick a different
08:51stick stick a stick with a bit of rope on I just found the rope on the beach and the head of a
08:56coconut these random pieces of equipment should hopefully work together to create enough friction to
09:00spark a fire oh my god did I suck at this
09:11oh I was going at this for a good several hours
09:14this constant line of smoke is coming from an ember this has been caused by the mass amount of
09:36friction and if I can successfully transfer it and give it more oxygen then it'll turn into a fire
09:44deep breath
09:47things were looking promising
10:02lost the ember oh my god i did the hard part but failed the easy part for the next hour or two i
10:09continued trying and i did get one more ember and i lost it again i've been going at that for
10:14for several hours now, the sun is starting to set.
10:17So the new plan, I'm gonna go fishing.
10:18Once I've caught the fish,
10:19I'm gonna continue trying to make a fire.
10:22I got one of the many washed up plastic bottles
10:24and put my fishing line around it.
10:25The crab's keeping me up, I used as bait,
10:27and for about an hour in the pitch black,
10:29I tried to fish, but I had no luck.
10:32And I am back to square one.
10:34I put all my effort into just trying to get this fire.
10:39I don't know how much longer I can keep going with this.
10:44But at some point, you just have to call it a day.
10:50Today has not been a good day.
10:53I'm getting sick of these.
10:55I've not got much light left.
10:56I'm gonna head to sleep.
10:59See you tomorrow.
11:06I am really hungry.
11:08You know what I'm absolutely craving right now?
11:10A fat, greasy Domino's pizza.
11:13Oh my God, just thinking about it.
11:22I woke up this morning just not feeling the best.
11:25My mood was low, my energy was low.
11:27I was absolutely starving.
11:29Energy is incredibly low right now,
11:31but I've got a lot to do.
11:33I gotta stop feeling sorry for myself.
11:43I needed to get this fire today.
11:59I was going at it for hours.
12:00Look at the absolute state of my hands.
12:04It was one of the most mentally tough things
12:05I've ever done in my life.
12:09F**k this.
12:10Don't know what to do.
12:11And I was so close to giving up.
12:15But I knew if I did that,
12:16the mosquito bites would get worse.
12:17I'd be miserable.
12:18Basically, what I'm saying is I had to get this fire.
12:21If it all came down to this,
12:35I couldn't lose this ember again.
12:37No, I was so close to it.
12:52I just couldn't lose it.
12:55I'm so close to it.
12:57I'm so close to it.
13:00I'm so close to it.
13:02Oh my God.
13:02I'm so close to it.
13:04I'm so close to it!
13:05I'm so close to it.
13:06We're running out.
13:07We've done it. We have made fire out of absolutely nothing.
13:22With the fire now made, I had one more important task I needed to do.
13:26I've won the battle, but not the war. I've buffed up my fishing rod.
13:29I'm catching a fish tonight and I'm eating some protein.
13:32Now, I've never fished in my life and I definitely was doing something wrong,
13:38so I was there for ages, but eventually...
13:47Come on. We've caught a fish. We've caught a fish. There we go.
13:51After gutting the fish, I wrapped it up in some leaves and chucked it on the fire.
13:54This unseasoned, full of bones fish was one of the best things I've ever eaten.
13:59It's been arguably the hardest three days of my life.
14:02And look, I've only been here three coming on to four days, I know.
14:05But it does make you realise how much you take stuff for granted.
14:09You can click a button now and food will be delivered to your door.
14:12It's taken me bloody three days to get some proper food.
14:15But I'm going to stop rambling on. Tonight's been a good night.
14:17I'm in a great, great mood. And there's no bloody mosquitoes either.
14:22Day four, I had everything that I needed.
14:24In fact, day four was one of the coolest days of my life.
14:35I started with just a bicker with my little brother, turned into all of this.
14:38And I learned so much.
14:40Day five, today is a day. I'm going home.
14:53I'm so excited for a shower.
14:55Here are the boys.
14:56Hey, mate.
14:57That big man?
14:57I've seen you in better states.
14:58Do you know what I'm craving right now?
15:11A fat, greasy Domino's pizza.
15:14I just quickly want to thank a couple of people for making this video possible.
15:16Number one, Desert Island Survival.
15:18These guys sorted out the island, they sorted out everything.
15:21Genuinely, if you want to do something like this,
15:23if you want to get trained to do something like this, they're your people.
15:25There are links in the description below.
15:27Number two, my sponsors, Young LA.
15:29While I was surviving on an island, I was doing it in style.
15:32I genuinely thought the clothes were sick.
15:33Just their clothes in general are sick.
15:35Code Joe, 15% off anything on the website.
15:38And finally, big up my protein.
15:40I've been scranning tons of their protein bars coming off the island.
15:43Code Joe, again, if you want to get something from there.
15:45They made the video possible.
15:46But yeah, thank you guys.
