00:00I want you to know that you may have received a bad health report, but that diagnosis does not have to debilitate you.
00:13You may have had a heartbreaking loss, but it does not have to derail you.
00:21You may be in a position today where the odds seem stacked against you, but it does not have to limit your mission and God-given vision.
00:36Grace and peace to you all in the matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
00:53My name is Christina, and today I have the privilege of sharing a word of encouragement from the living word of God.
01:07What an encouragement we can receive from God's word today.
01:13And I want you to turn in your Bibles to start with to a well-known passage in the book of Psalm 119.
01:24And let us read from verse 89.
01:29And it simply says this.
01:32Forever, O Lord, your word is settled in heaven.
01:41Your faithfulness endures to all generations.
01:50You establish the earth and it abides.
01:53They continue this day according to your ordinances.
02:00For all are your servants.
02:03Unless your law had been my delight,
02:06then I would have perished in my affliction.
02:12You know, in a world where there's such rapid advances in technology,
02:20where there are ever-evolving philosophies,
02:25and the shifting of cultural norms,
02:29many people question whether God's word still has authority today.
02:37Some people say,
02:39isn't it reasonable for me to be loving and forgiving,
02:44even to those who disagree with me online?
02:48Some people say,
02:49do I really have to work with integrity as unto the Lord,
02:56even when no one's around,
02:58when my boss is not watching me?
03:01Some people say,
03:04wow, in this cost of living crisis,
03:07in this economic climate,
03:10should I really be expected to support the poor,
03:17the refugee,
03:19the orphan?
03:20When we conform to the pattern of this world,
03:26it is very easy to surrender to societal norms,
03:33to acquiesce to the devil's agenda,
03:36to succumb to sin.
03:40But the Bible reminds us in James chapter 2 and verse 10
03:46that we cannot pick and choose the parts of the Bible
03:51that we want to obey,
03:53that we think are relevant to us today.
03:57It says,
03:58if we obey the whole law
04:00and yet stumble at just one point,
04:04then we are guilty of breaking all of it.
04:08Yes,
04:10the word of God
04:12is the final authority
04:15and it is just as relevant now
04:19as it was then.
04:23God's word stands firm forever
04:26because it is settled in heaven.
04:29It doesn't have authority
04:32because it's been settled
04:34at the most prestigious university debate.
04:37It does not have authority
04:39because it has been settled
04:41in the mind of the greatest theologian.
04:45It does not have authority
04:47because maybe it is respected
04:49by the most powerful government
04:52on this world.
04:53No.
04:55God's word has authority.
04:57It stands firm
04:59because it is settled in heaven.
05:02And because God's word is settled in heaven,
05:05it does not change on this earth.
05:08It does not shift to suit our culture.
05:12It cannot be misaligned
05:15or misconstrued
05:17to align with our own philosophy of life.
05:22It will not be diluted.
05:25It will not be degraded.
05:28It will never change.
05:30And because God's word will never change,
05:34we can be assured of his faithfulness
05:37through all generations.
05:41Now, we all want to see the power of God
05:44moving our mountain,
05:46breaking our bondages,
05:48setting the captives free,
05:50bringing remedies to our maladies.
05:53But I want to remind you people of God
05:56that knowing God
05:58is not just to see his works,
06:02but it is to learn his ways.
06:07It is the doer of God's word
06:09that receives things from God.
06:12Yes, our Lord Jesus Christ taught us to pray.
06:15He said,
06:16when we pray,
06:16we should say,
06:17our Father in heaven,
06:19hallowed be your name.
06:21Your kingdom come,
06:22your will be done
06:24on earth as it is in heaven.
06:28But for the will of God
06:29to be done in your life today,
06:32takes the surrendering
06:34of your own will
06:37to God's own will
06:40so that it will happen
06:42here on earth
06:44as it is in heaven.
06:49And yes, people of God,
06:51the word of God
06:52is our hope.
06:54If not for the word of God,
06:57we would be perishing
07:00in our affliction.
07:02And I want to take you
07:04to a portion of scripture today
07:06and share with you the account
07:09of four men with leprosy
07:11who certainly would have died
07:14and perished in their affliction
07:16if not for the word of God
07:19working in the spirit.
07:20So turn with me
07:23to the book of 2 Kings chapter 7.
07:27Now this was during
07:28the days of Elisha
07:31and the people of God
07:33were living in Samaria
07:35and the king of Syria
07:37had attacked
07:38and surrounded the city.
07:40And as a result,
07:42there was a devastating famine
07:44and the people were gripped
07:46with a debilitating fear of death.
07:48And in the midst of all this chaos,
07:52in the midst of all this disappointment,
07:54in the midst of all this heartbreak
07:56and hunger and suffering,
07:59Elisha speaks forth the word of God.
08:02Let us read from verse 1.
08:05Then Elisha said,
08:08Hear the word of the Lord.
08:11Thus says the Lord,
08:14Tomorrow, about this time,
08:17a seer of fine flour
08:19shall be sold for a shekel
08:21and two seers of barley
08:24for a shekel
08:24at the gate of Samaria.
08:27So an officer on whose hand
08:29the king leaned
08:30answered the man of God
08:31and said,
08:32Look,
08:33if the Lord
08:34would make windows in heaven,
08:38could this thing be?
08:40And he said,
08:42In fact,
08:43you shall see it
08:45with your eyes,
08:47but you shall not eat of it.
08:52People of God,
08:53the people were facing
08:55such economic crisis
08:57that they were starving.
08:59But Elisha prophesied
09:01the word of God,
09:02which brought hope,
09:04saying about this time tomorrow,
09:06food was going to become
09:08abundant and cheap.
09:10But the man in authority
09:13started to look
09:15at that message
09:16and started to disparage
09:20the faith of the man of God
09:22and started to discredit
09:25the word of God,
09:26saying,
09:26Can this be true?
09:28But Elisha understood
09:30that although that officer
09:32was a man in authority,
09:34there was a greater authority.
09:37God's word was settled in heaven.
09:39Therefore,
09:40no matter what anyone said,
09:42it will happen
09:43on this earth.
09:46He was not discouraged
09:47by the disparaging words
09:50of the officer,
09:51but he continued to speak
09:53God's word with boldness,
09:55knowing that God
09:56would bring it to pass.
09:58Let's see what happened next
10:00in verse three.
10:03Now,
10:04there were four leprous men
10:06at the entrance
10:07of the gate.
10:09The reason why
10:10these people
10:11with leprosy
10:12were sitting at the gate
10:14was because
10:15of the contagious nature
10:18of the sickness.
10:20In those days,
10:21they would have been quarantined.
10:23Also because,
10:25according to Jewish tradition,
10:26they would have been
10:27ritually unclean.
10:28So they were there
10:29sitting at the city gate,
10:32waiting for somebody
10:33to perform
10:34an act of charity.
10:36Now,
10:37during a famine,
10:39that seemed
10:40pretty impossible.
10:42But remember,
10:43the prophet Elisha
10:44spoke forth God's word.
10:46So let's now see
10:48how it began
10:49to unfold.
10:51Back to verse three.
10:53There were four
10:54leprous men
10:55at the entrance
10:56of the gate,
10:57and they said
10:58to one another,
10:59Why are we sitting here
11:02until we die?
11:06Wow,
11:06people of God,
11:08what a question
11:09to ask.
11:10You see,
11:12maybe
11:12these men
11:14with leprosy
11:16had listened
11:17to the lie
11:19that told them
11:21you will die
11:24in your situation,
11:26that there was
11:28nothing left
11:29to expect
11:31except for death.
11:34Maybe they had
11:35internalized
11:36that grim pronunciation,
11:38believing that
11:39their situation
11:40was permanent.
11:43But
11:44when the word
11:46of God
11:47was spoken,
11:49changes
11:50were beginning.
11:51something seemed
11:53to shift
11:53in the spirit
11:54and shift
11:56in the heart
11:57of those men.
11:59They began
12:00to question
12:01that negative
12:02mindset.
12:04They began
12:05to question
12:06the assumption
12:08that that famine
12:09was fatal.
12:12And this will take us
12:13to the title
12:13of the message today.
12:15The famine
12:16is not
12:18fatal.
12:20Tell
12:20your neighbor
12:22or tell
12:23me here
12:24in the studio,
12:25my famine
12:25is not
12:28fatal.
12:30My famine
12:31is not
12:33fatal.
12:35What is
12:36your famine
12:36today?
12:38What is
12:39your situation?
12:40What seeming
12:41impossible
12:42situation
12:43are you
12:44in today?
12:45they began
12:47to question
12:48the assumption
12:49that the
12:50famine
12:50was fatal.
12:53And maybe
12:53you have
12:54joined today
12:55similarly
12:56listening
12:57to those
12:58lies
12:58that
12:59don't
13:00seem
13:01to add
13:01up,
13:01that don't
13:03seem
13:03to align
13:04with the
13:04truth
13:05of God's
13:06word.
13:07The lie
13:08that says
13:08you will
13:09stay in
13:09your situation,
13:11you will
13:11never recover,
13:12you will
13:13never rise.
13:15I want
13:16you to
13:17know
13:17that you
13:19may have
13:19received
13:20a bad
13:22health
13:22report,
13:23but that
13:24diagnosis
13:25does not
13:26have to
13:27debilitate
13:27you.
13:28You may
13:30have had
13:31a
13:31heartbreaking
13:32loss,
13:33but it
13:34does not
13:35have to
13:35derail
13:36you.
13:36you may
13:39be in
13:39a position
13:40today
13:40where the
13:41odds
13:42seem
13:42stacked
13:43against
13:43you,
13:44but it
13:45does not
13:45have to
13:46limit
13:46your
13:47mission
13:48and
13:49God
13:49given
13:50vision.
13:52What is
13:52your famine
13:53today?
13:54Begin to
13:55examine
13:55your famine,
13:56not in
13:57the light
13:57of your
13:57situation,
13:59not in
13:59the light
13:59of what
14:00people say,
14:01but begin
14:01to examine
14:02your famine
14:03in the
14:04light of
14:05God's
14:05word.
14:06Just like
14:07those lepers,
14:08you can
14:08rise above
14:09the lies
14:10and you
14:11can say,
14:11hey,
14:12this famine
14:13is not
14:14my finish
14:15line.
14:16I may
14:17be
14:17deteriorating
14:18in my
14:19health,
14:20but my
14:21physical
14:21condition
14:22is not
14:23beyond the
14:23power of
14:24the great
14:25physician.
14:26I may
14:27be outcast
14:28and isolated
14:30by society,
14:32but society's
14:33rejection
14:34does not
14:35mean I'm
14:36facing
14:36God's
14:37neglection
14:37because
14:39God's
14:39word is
14:40the final
14:41authority.
14:43Like the
14:43psalmist,
14:43you can
14:44say in
14:45Psalm
14:45118
14:46verse 17,
14:48I will
14:48not die,
14:49but I
14:50will live
14:51and declare
14:52the works
14:53of the
14:54Lord.
14:55So let
14:56us continue
14:56to see
14:57what happened
14:58next.
14:59And in
14:59verse 4,
15:00the leper
15:02said,
15:02we will
15:04enter the
15:04city and
15:05the famine
15:05is in
15:06the city
15:06and we
15:07shall die
15:07there.
15:08And if
15:08we sit
15:09here,
15:09we should
15:09die also.
15:11Now,
15:11therefore,
15:12let us
15:12surrender to
15:13the army
15:13of the
15:13Assyrians.
15:14If they
15:15keep us
15:15alive,
15:16we shall
15:16live.
15:17And if
15:17they kill
15:17us,
15:18we shall
15:18only die.
15:20And they
15:20arose at
15:21twilight to
15:22go to the
15:22camp of
15:23the Assyrians.
15:24And when
15:24they had
15:25come to
15:25the outskirts
15:26of the Assyrian
15:27camp,
15:27to their
15:28surprise,
15:29no one
15:30was there.
15:32For the
15:32Lord had
15:33caused the
15:33army of
15:34the Assyrians
15:35to hear
15:36the noise
15:37of chariots
15:38and the
15:39noise of
15:39horses,
15:40the noise
15:41of a
15:41great army.
15:42So they
15:42said to
15:43one another,
15:44look,
15:44the king
15:45of Israel
15:45has hired
15:46against us
15:47the kings
15:48of the
15:49Hittites
15:49and the
15:49kings of
15:50the Egyptians
15:51to attack
15:52us.
15:52So they
15:53arose and
15:54fled at
15:55twilight and
15:56left the
15:57camp intact,
15:58their tents,
15:59their horses
16:00and their
16:00donkeys,
16:01and they
16:02fled for
16:03their lives.
16:06And when
16:06these lepers
16:07came to
16:08the outskirts
16:09of the
16:09camp,
16:10they went
16:10into one
16:11tent and
16:12ate and
16:13drank.
16:13They carried
16:14from it
16:14silver and
16:15gold and
16:16clothing and
16:18went and
16:18hid them.
16:19And then
16:19they came
16:20back and
16:21entered another
16:21tent and
16:22carried some
16:22from there
16:23also and
16:24went and
16:25hid it.
16:26Wow.
16:28These
16:28lepers went
16:29from a
16:30famine to
16:32a feast.
16:34These were
16:35the unlikely
16:36people to
16:37recover in
16:38this time of
16:38famine.
16:39But this
16:40goes to
16:41show to
16:42God's
16:43power,
16:44nothing,
16:45nothing is
16:46impossible.
16:48Yes,
16:49the Bible
16:49says in
16:511 Corinthians
16:51chapter 2
16:53that no
16:54eye has
16:55seen,
16:56no ear
16:57has heard,
16:59no mind
17:00has imagined
17:01what God
17:02has prepared
17:03for those
17:04who love
17:05him.
17:06And you
17:07know what?
17:07The lepers
17:08did not have
17:09to try and
17:09fight any
17:10battle themselves.
17:11When they
17:11arrived,
17:12the battle
17:13had already
17:14been won.
17:15The enemy
17:15had already
17:16fled.
17:17It was
17:18already settled
17:19in heaven.
17:20So what
17:21are you
17:21worried about
17:22today?
17:23You may
17:24feel as if
17:25you are in
17:25prison right
17:26now, but
17:27you know
17:28what?
17:28The chain
17:29breaker is
17:30in the
17:30room.
17:31You may
17:32feel as if
17:33you are
17:34locked up
17:34in the
17:34darkest
17:35dungeon,
17:36but there
17:36is liberation
17:37in
17:38incarceration
17:39because God
17:40has already
17:41settled it
17:42in heaven.
17:43There will
17:43be healing
17:44where there
17:44is sickness.
17:45There will
17:46be deliverance
17:47where there
17:47is bondage
17:48today.
17:48So relax
17:50in the
17:51precious arms
17:51of the
17:52Holy Spirit
17:52knowing that
17:53it has
17:54already been
17:56done.
17:58Yes,
17:59at the
17:59name of
18:00Jesus Christ
18:00every knee
18:01shall bow
18:02today.
18:03Amen?
18:04Darkness
18:05has to
18:06flee.
18:07Fear
18:08has to
18:09surrender.
18:10Every
18:10sickness
18:11has to
18:11relinquish
18:12control.
18:13At that
18:14name of
18:14Jesus Christ.
18:15It is a
18:15name above
18:17every other
18:18name.
18:20So let's
18:21see what
18:22happened
18:22after that.
18:24In verse
18:24nine,
18:25then they
18:26said to
18:26one another,
18:27we are
18:28not doing
18:28right.
18:29This
18:30day is
18:31a day
18:31of good
18:32news
18:32and we
18:33remain
18:34silent.
18:35If we
18:36wait until
18:36morning light,
18:37some punishment
18:38will come
18:38upon us.
18:40Now
18:40therefore,
18:41come,
18:42let us
18:42go and
18:43tell the
18:43king's
18:44household.
18:44So they
18:45went and
18:46called to
18:47the gatekeepers
18:48of the
18:48city and
18:49told them
18:50saying,
18:50we went
18:51to the
18:51Syrian
18:52camp and
18:52surprisingly,
18:54no one
18:54was there,
18:55not a
18:55human sound,
18:57only horses
18:58and donkeys
18:59tied and
19:00the tents
19:01intact.
19:02And the
19:02gatekeepers
19:03called out and
19:04they told it
19:04to the
19:05king's
19:05household
19:06inside.
19:06And then
19:08in verse
19:0916,
19:10then the
19:11people went
19:11out and
19:12plundered the
19:13tents of
19:14the Syrians.
19:15So a
19:16seer of
19:16fine flour
19:17was sold
19:18for a
19:18shekel and
19:19two seers
19:20of barley
19:21for a
19:21shekel,
19:22according to
19:23the word
19:23of the
19:25Lord.
19:25Praise
19:26God.
19:27Hallelujah.
19:28You see,
19:28you don't have
19:29to figure it
19:30out in your
19:30own mind
19:31how God
19:31is going
19:31to do
19:31it today.
19:32You don't
19:33have to be
19:33like that
19:34officer who
19:35spoke that
19:36word of
19:36negativity
19:37when the
19:37word of
19:37God was
19:38spoken.
19:39You can
19:40believe that
19:41God Almighty
19:41will certainly
19:42bring his
19:43will to
19:44pass.
19:45But you
19:45see what
19:45happened to
19:46those
19:46lepers?
19:48Even
19:49though they
19:51had been
19:51rejected and
19:53outcast by
19:54society,
19:55when they
19:56received that
19:57blessing,
19:58they suddenly
19:59realized that
20:00that blessing
20:01was not for
20:02them alone.
20:03They did
20:04not have a
20:04victim mindset.
20:05They did
20:06not say,
20:06oh,
20:07where were
20:07they when
20:08we needed
20:08help?
20:09When we
20:10were sitting
20:10there by
20:11the roadside
20:12begging and
20:12nobody could
20:13help us,
20:14why should
20:14we now share
20:15this blessing?
20:16No.
20:18Because their
20:18consciences were
20:20governed by the
20:21fear of God,
20:22that blessing
20:24quickly became
20:25a burden.
20:27You see,
20:28what you receive
20:29from the throne
20:30of grace
20:30today is not
20:33just for your
20:34good,
20:35it is for
20:36his glory.
20:38So I want
20:39to encourage
20:40you today,
20:40when God
20:41blesses you,
20:42remember that
20:43we are blessed
20:44to bless
20:44others.
20:45We have to
20:46be responsible
20:46in our use
20:48of blessing.
20:50And I'm not
20:51just talking
20:51about the
20:52sharing of
20:53our material
20:53resources or
20:55the sharing
20:56of the good
20:56things that
20:57God gives
20:57us materially,
20:59which is a
20:59wonderful thing
21:00to do by
21:00the way.
21:01And we
21:02should be
21:02responsible as
21:04givers and
21:05make sure that
21:05we bless
21:06people around
21:07us as well.
21:08Love looks
21:09around to
21:10see those
21:10who are in
21:11need.
21:12But it's
21:13also about
21:14sharing the
21:15good news of
21:16our Lord
21:17Jesus Christ.
21:18Tell your
21:18neighbor today
21:19is a day
21:20of good
21:20news.
21:22Today is
21:24a day of
21:25good news.
21:26And we
21:27should not
21:27keep it to
21:28ourselves.
21:29We should
21:30make sure
21:30that we
21:31share that
21:31good news
21:32with other
21:32people,
21:33just like
21:33these lepers
21:34did.
21:35You see,
21:36when you
21:36have an
21:37encounter
21:37with our
21:38Lord Jesus
21:38Christ,
21:39the response
21:40should be
21:41something that
21:42will impact
21:43those around
21:44us.
21:45Remember
21:46the woman
21:47in John
21:48chapter 4
21:49who had
21:50an encounter
21:51with Jesus
21:52Christ at
21:52the well.
21:54When Jesus
21:55Christ delivered
21:56her from
21:57the shame
21:57of her
21:58unworthy
21:59past,
22:00she ran
22:01to her
22:01community
22:02to tell
22:03them what
22:04Jesus had
22:04done for
22:05her.
22:06Remember
22:07Zacchaeus in
22:08the book
22:08of Luke
22:09chapter 19,
22:10he was a
22:11notorious
22:12and despised
22:13tax collector,
22:14but after
22:16his encounter
22:17with our
22:17Lord Jesus
22:18Christ,
22:19he responded
22:20with radical
22:21generosity,
22:22authority and
22:24he repaid
22:25those he
22:26had cheated
22:26fourfold.
22:28Look at
22:29the case
22:29of Cornelius
22:30in Acts
22:31chapter 10.
22:33When
22:33Apostle
22:34Peter was
22:35coming to
22:35share the
22:36word of
22:36God at
22:36his house,
22:37he made
22:38sure that
22:38he gathered
22:39all his
22:40people,
22:40his entire
22:41household,
22:42and the
22:42Holy Spirit
22:43fell upon
22:44all who
22:45heard the
22:46message.
22:47people of
22:48God,
22:49today we
22:49have so
22:50much at
22:51our
22:51fingertips
22:52to share
22:53the word
22:53of God.
22:54You can
22:54share
22:55scripture
22:55on a
22:56WhatsApp
22:56message,
22:58but most
22:59importantly,
23:00people of
23:01God,
23:01we are
23:02called to
23:03be Christ's
23:04ambassadors,
23:05to show
23:06by the
23:07way we
23:07live our
23:08lives that
23:09Christ lives
23:11in us.
23:13Yes,
23:14just as
23:14Apostle Paul
23:15said to
23:16the church
23:17in Philippi
23:17in Philippians
23:19chapter 2
23:19verse 14,
23:21he said,
23:22do everything
23:22without
23:23complaining
23:24or arguing
23:25that you
23:26may be
23:26called
23:27children
23:28of God
23:29without
23:31fault
23:32in a
23:32crooked
23:33and perverse
23:34generation
23:34that you
23:35would shine
23:36like stars
23:38in this
23:38dark world
23:39as you
23:40hold on
23:41to the
23:42word of
23:42God
23:43so that I
23:44can rejoice
23:44in the
23:45day of
23:45Christ
23:46that I
23:46did not
23:47labor
23:48in vain.
23:50People of
23:50God,
23:51let us
23:51show by
23:52the way
23:53we live,
23:54by the
23:54way we
23:55love,
23:55by the
23:56way we
23:56talk,
23:57by the
23:57way we
23:58act,
23:59that Christ
24:00lives in
24:01us.
24:03So finally,
24:04people of
24:05God,
24:05let us go
24:05back to
24:07that
24:07Psalm
24:08119.
24:10and it
24:12says in
24:13verse 97,
24:15oh how
24:16I love
24:16your law,
24:17it is
24:18my
24:18meditation
24:19all the
24:20day.
24:22You see,
24:23we should
24:23be meditating
24:24on the
24:24word of
24:25God
24:25continuously,
24:26not
24:27occasionally.
24:29Verse 98,
24:30you,
24:31through your
24:32commandments,
24:33make me
24:33wiser than
24:34my enemy,
24:35for they
24:35are ever
24:36with me.
24:36I have
24:37more
24:38understanding
24:38than all
24:39my teachers,
24:40for your
24:41testimonies
24:42are my
24:42meditation.
24:43I understand
24:44more than
24:45the ancients
24:46because I
24:47keep your
24:48precepts.
24:49I have
24:49restrained
24:50my feet
24:51from every
24:51evil way
24:52that I
24:53may keep
24:54your word.
24:55I have
24:55not departed
24:56from your
24:57judgments,
24:57for you
24:58yourself have
24:58taught me
24:59how sweet
25:00are your
25:00words to
25:01my taste,
25:02sweeter than
25:03honey to
25:03my mouth.
25:05Through your
25:05precepts I
25:06get
25:06understanding,
25:07therefore I
25:08hate every
25:09false way.
25:10Your
25:11word is
25:12a lamp
25:13to my
25:13feet and
25:14a light
25:15to my
25:16path.
25:17People of
25:17God,
25:18I want
25:19you to
25:20remember
25:20that for
25:21the word
25:21of God
25:22to be
25:22a lamp
25:23to our
25:23feet and
25:24a light
25:25to our
25:25path,
25:26we must
25:27attend to
25:28it.
25:29We must
25:30commit
25:31ourselves to
25:31the word
25:32of God.
25:32We must
25:33obey it
25:34because it
25:35is the
25:35doer of
25:36the word
25:37that
25:37receives
25:38things
25:39from
25:39God.
25:40So as
25:41we have
25:41listened to
25:42the word
25:42of God
25:42today,
25:43as we
25:44have heard
25:44about the
25:45faithfulness
25:45of God
25:46through all
25:46generations,
25:48let your
25:49faith arise
25:50in your
25:50heart.
25:51But let
25:51us remember
25:52that it is
25:53the word
25:53of God
25:53that has
25:54the final
25:54authority.
25:55And for
25:56it to
25:56happen here
25:57on this
25:57earth,
25:58we must
25:59be committed
25:59to being
26:00the doer
26:01of the
26:01word.
26:01We'll see you next time.
26:31We'll see you next time.
