00:24People magazine announced that Keaton died in California aged 79 in the presence of loved ones.

00:30Born Diane Hall, she used her mother's maiden name during her career, which started on Broadway in the late 1960s.

00:38Her breakthrough came with her role as Kay Adams in The Godfather in 1972.

01:36Numerous other roles meant she charmed new generations, including in the Father of the Brides series with Steve Martin.

01:44In all, she fashioned a career in more than 60 films.
