00:01Padres and Giants in action for game two of a four game set tonight. San Diego
00:06looking to put a stop to a tough stretch after dropping four in a row. San Diego
00:11still in second place in the NL West looking up at the Dodgers two games back
00:15of them. Pavetta has no doubt been a stopper this season. He has been great
00:20exactly in situations like tonight coming off a loss. He's seven and two with a
00:252-1 ADRA in 12 starts this season following a Padres loss. The Padres have
00:30trailed in 34 consecutive innings going back to the third in LA on Friday. The
00:37last three games in the first inning 11 earned runs five home runs allowed. It's
00:42a high drive deep into right center field. It is out of here. The Giants have done it
00:51again. Jung-Hoo Lee leads off tonight's game with a home run. The night after
00:58Elliott Ramos led off with a home run in game one of the series. There is a sense
01:04of disbelief you can almost feel at Petco Park right now. So two walks in his
01:09first inning allowed by Pavetta. Next pitch will be the 25th of this first
01:14inning for Pavetta. That's the other thing. A lot of pitches thrown early on in the
01:18last handful of games by the starters in their first inning. Two on and two out
01:21and he swings to the first pitch sends it in the air to center field off the end
01:25of the bat. Laureano comes jogging in. He'll reach up to make the catch and end
01:29the inning. Giants get just the one on the Jung-Hoo Lee homer. Highway Tang on the
01:34mound tonight for San Francisco. Well I had a rough one last time out against the
01:38Padres ending at two-thirds. It makes his third start as a giant this season. One
01:42hopper to short. Koss from a step on the upfield lawn. His throw is high.
01:46Fernando will reach. Knew he had to hurry with Fernando running and that one took
01:51off on him. So he's six on the throw from Christian Koss. Fernando at first for
01:56Luis Arise. Arise. Lines one to right field. That'll get in. Gilbert has to run a long
02:02way. Fernando's headed for third. He'll be stopped there. Throw to second base. Knocked down.
02:07Second and third. It's a double for Arise. Second and third. Nobody out this Padres first
02:13standing for Manny Machado. It has been 14 games since he last drove in a run. And
02:18Manny grounds this one slowly towards third. That'll do it. Schmidt has it. The throw to
02:22first base is in time. Either way Tatis comes in to score and the Padres have tied it up
02:28one to one. Hissed the job done. Would have loved that infield hit but nonetheless breaks
02:32that RBI-less streak out of the way or gets it out of the way. Padres tie this game at one
02:38piece. They've got Arise at third one out and Ryan O'Hearn the cleanup man is standing in
02:43against a drawn in infield. Got him. Nasty. Light him up. 3-2 curveball with lots of bite.
02:51Now Xander Bogarts the infield back to normal death. Arise still at third. 3-2 pitch and
02:56then he's swinging. Yes. On appeal. Jay Raver in the first base umpire punches it out.
03:02Inning over. And back-to-back strikeouts in the first inning.
03:05Pavetta would walk two in that first inning. But in the second a 1-2-3 inning.
03:10Pavetta's pitch swung on and missed. Just blew him away with a fastball. Third strikeout of the
03:15night for Pavetta. And one down here in the top of the third. And the 1-2 is swung on and missed.
03:20Strike three. Good fastball from Pavetta. Second strikeout of the inning. Fourth strikeout of the
03:24night. And now two away with Ramos at first. And Casey Schmidt coming up. Runner goes and a swing
03:30and a miss. Struck him out. And the inning ends up striking out the side. 5Ks for Pavetta. Game
03:35tied to 1. Tatis takes off. Pitches strike. Bailey can't get it out of his hand. And a steal for
03:41Fernando. His 25th of the year. Brings up Manny Machado. He's got the Padres RBI on the ground
03:46out. The first inning. The 1-1 pitch. Fly ball center field. Lee came in a couple steps. Now he
03:51moves back maybe one and over to his left one. He catches it. And that's out number three. So good
03:58job by Kiwi Tang there to work through it. A walk. A steal. But no runs. So Dom who walked his first
04:04time up. First pitch swinging here in the fourth. And he knocks one right into center field for a
04:09leadoff single. So here's Koss. Koss came up with two on and two out in the first inning. And went after
04:14the first pitch and flied out to center field. Swing and a foul tip. And the catcher's mid for strike
04:18three. Koss strikes out. Sixth strikeout of the night for Nick Pavetta. With Smith at
04:23first base. Bailey coming up. By him. And it's back-to-back Ks for Pavetta. Seven and all. Koss on the
04:30sweeper. Bailey on the fourth seamer. Two down in the fourth inning. Smith at a leadoff
04:34single. Still at first with two down. And Drew Gilbert. Gilbert swings and misses. Strike
04:39three. And Pavetta strikes out the side after the leadoff single by Dominic Smith. So the
04:45lack of command for Tang is threatening to get the Padres on top in this game for the
04:50first time. Second hit by pitch of the inning. And the Padres now have the bases loaded and
04:56one out for Jose Iglesias. Career 341 hitter in the spot is Jose Iglesias. Iglesias lines
05:02it into left for a base hit. O'Hearn from third puts the Padres on top. Two to one. Jose Iglesias
05:09driving in the run. That's certainly why he's been in the lineup here a lot lately. Coming up
05:14with those kind of hits. And that will end the night for Kai Wei
05:18Tang. Bases reloaded and Spencer Bivens takes over. Known for his sinker. He's a
05:24ground ball pitcher and that's exactly what Bob Melvin's looking for. Diaz tops one
05:28softly toward third. Schmidt has it. He's coming home and they'll get the out there
05:32and the slide. The hard slide by Laureano right into the leg of Bailey. And I say
05:38Bailey kind of got upended a little bit but held onto the ball. Had his foot on the
05:43plate. And the Giants get the force out at home. It's the only out they get.
05:47Clips the order over. Here's Fernando in the spot. 425 in his career. Three grand slams
05:52on his resume. Takes all the way. Takes ball four. That's a run from third base. Comes
05:58at Shades and it's 3-1 San Diego. And now Bivens has to deal with Elise Arise. And Arise against
06:05Bivens. Four for five with a triple in his career. Arise hits a fly ball left field. Ramos
06:10playing shallow. Backpedals and makes the catch. Still well short of the warning track
06:15for round number three. First inning. Six batters. A couple of walks. The home run. Since then.
06:20One hit. No walks. And seven strikeouts. And he swings and lines one into center field. Base
06:26hit. Hustling over in the right center to cut it off. Lee's going to try for two. Here comes
06:31a wild throw towards second base. So a double for Jung-Hoo Lee. Lee will tag. Heads to third.
06:38Sliding in safely. Two down. Deep enough. Lee could move to third base. And here comes
06:43Ruben Diabla with Rafael Devers coming up next. I want to reinforce the game plan against a guy
06:49like Devers who with one swing at the back can tie this bad boy. So here is Devers. 3-1. The
06:55Giants are trailing. Runner at third. Two down. Devers hits a fly ball to left field. Playable
06:59for Sheets coming in and under. And he'll make the catch. It ends the inning. They leave Lee
07:04at third. Machado will get to second base with a leadoff double that opens up the bottom of the
07:09fifth inning. Smelling two. Taking two. Just like that in a scoring position. Padres with a 3-1
07:15lead. Trying to put some distance between themselves and the Giants. Ryan O'Hearn the batter.
07:20Line right center field for O'Hearn. Manny Machado being waved around. He'll score the fourth
07:26Padres run. It's 4-1 San Diego. Ryan O'Hearn driving in the run. Stay hot. Ryan O'Hearn continues
07:33to swing a good bat. O'Hearn. Oh yeah. As Nick Pavetta returns to the hill here for inning number
07:40six. And time for Pavetta to shut him down right here. And the Padres add on to secure
07:46this one. And two away here in the top of the sixth inning. I'm sure it will let Pavetta
07:51finish this inning. Our attempt to finish this inning. Well you can tell Nick wants to complete
07:55this inning. You can smell it. And almost assuredly the last batter of the night for Pavetta.
08:00Win, lose, or draw. Pitch 109 on the night about to be delivered. And Koss takes right
08:05down the middle. Strike three called. A 1-2-3-6 for Pavetta to finish strong. And he ties his
08:11season high with 10K. 3-2 way outside. Ball fourth. And a one-out walk to Elias Diaz to put
08:17a man aboard for Tatis here in the sixth inning. Tatis chops it slowly to the left side.
08:22Schmidt barehand on the grass. Throw to first. Gets away. Diaz going to rumble to third.
08:27Fernando will stay planted at first base. Diaz now thinking about a turn and he'll head
08:32back. But he did force a throw to the plate and it was a good throw. And for the second
08:37time tonight, Fernando aboard on an ugly throw on the infield. So now two on and one out for
08:43a rise. Grounded back to the mound. Throw to second is terrible. But it is picked. And a run
08:50will score. Diaz in the back door from third. Padres take a 5-1 lead. They get Fernando somehow.
08:55Wow. Oh, that's a nice play. That is a nice play for bringing that ball going to center
08:59field. Natis has been on base four times. Hammered and caught at third by the leaping
09:06Casey Schmidt. Man, that was a laser beam. And Schmidt timed his leap perfectly and went
09:12way up there. And at the apex of his leap, he caught it. As we head into the ninth inning
09:19with the Padres on top 5-1. Robert Suarez into the game. Needs to fill the zone here. Go
09:24right after him. Locate with that fastball. Fill that strike zone. Let your defense work
09:28for you. Padres pitching right now. He's retired seven Giants in a row. You know, this should
09:33be good for Robert Suarez. 7-1-2-3 inning right here. And after that last outing, throw some
09:38pitches. A quick inning. And he sends it in the air to pretty deep left field. Laureano's backing
09:42up. Peeling for the wall. On the track. Pops up. And he makes the catch to end the game.
09:47Padres mini skid comes to a close. As Suarez works a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning. And
09:54the pods. A 5-1 win over the Giants in workman-like fashion here tonight.
