00:01George Kirby Val coming off a really nice eight-inning start against the Rangers.
00:05Yeah, he was on top of his game against the Rangers in that last start.
00:08Eight innings, skimming up only six hits, three runs, and struck out four.
00:12And, of course, he didn't walk anybody.
00:15Astros looking like they're going to be very aggressive against Kirby here this afternoon.
00:18They know he throws strikes, and he does like to try to get strike one.
00:22And for Kirby, there's hardly a pitcher who throws more strikes than George,
00:26so teams are typically fairly aggressive against him.
00:30Astros are among the most aggressive teams as it is, top ten in baseball and swing rates.
00:35They simply like to get the bat off the shoulder.
00:37Ground ball over to Donovan.
00:3897-mile-an-hour fastball that time, and Walker is retired.
00:42Kirby a scoreless top of the first inning.
00:45It has been a pretty wild series offensively for the Mariners.
00:48They've won all three games.
00:50They have scored 23 runs on 24 hits and drawing, Val, 26 walks.
00:56Those walks are tied for the most in a three-game span ever issued by the Houston Astros.
01:03Broken bat, and this should work out.
01:05It dumps into left field.
01:06Cal Raleigh with a one-out single.
01:08We have certainly been surprised with the lack of control by the Houston Astros pitching staff.
01:12There is Julio, a nine-game on-base streak for the Mariners center fielder.
01:16One-out and one-on hit hard, tight to the line, and it's off Correa's glove into foul ground.
01:21Cal Raleigh into third base.
01:23He'll be held there.
01:25Julio with a rocket double.
01:27That was nearly 1-10 off the bat.
01:30Now the Mariners in business.
01:31We were just talking about how well he is giving his approach here at the plate,
01:35and that's a hot shot off the glove of Correa.
01:38Not only have the Mariners scored a lot of runs this series,
01:40they've scored early in these games, six runs in the first inning.
01:46They had scored all of three in the first inning leading into this series.
01:51Hey, Josh Naylor known for his shoes, in case you didn't know that.
01:55He's got some incredible design, really cool Nike Jordan shoes,
01:57and he just gave a pair away?
01:59No way.
02:01That fan just got himself some Naylor cleats.
02:04What?
02:04We'll see if Naylor can break out a little bit, get his first extra base hit.
02:08This is a situation where they have thrived in this series as well.
02:11Good situational hitting.
02:13Naylor looking to drive the ball into the big part of the yard.
02:16Naylor shoots this deep.
02:18Right field, and gone!
02:21Josh Naylor, he's been waiting for it.
02:25His first of the year is a three-run homer in the first inning.
02:29Now that is some good situational hitting.
02:32Oh, you know, that feels good for Naylor.
02:35Starting off a little slow, you know it's going to come around.
02:39But getting that first one, and that big zero off the board.
02:44It was a matter of time.
02:47I think it's Julio excited for his teammate.
02:50Maris on top three, nothing over the Astros.
02:52Here's Cal Raleigh standing in.
02:53Rolled over, first base, the skims to Walker, and, whoa, ho, ho, ho, ho!
02:59Infield base hit Cal Raleigh.
03:02Cal Raleigh hustling down the line, picks up his second hit of the day.
03:07He won the foot race.
03:09Bring up Josh Naylor.
03:10Three-run homerun in the first slot center field, back.
03:16He's got another one!
03:19Josh Naylor has homered on back-to-back pitches.
03:25His second of the day.
03:27Well, getting that first homerun will certainly put a skip in your step.
03:31And Josh Naylor goes back-to-back.
03:36Well, hard to believe that's his first strikeout today, but you think about it.
03:40A lot of these Astros hitters haven't even seen three pitches.
03:43They're swinging.
03:43It's a strategy that makes, quite frankly, a lot of sense against George.
03:46It can just easily backfire on you.
03:48Mel Kirby right now, one pitch away from going four innings already.
03:52Well, he's facing Correa here, who has swung at all four pitches that he's thrown him.
03:57Two outs, Paredes at first base.
03:59Swung on and missed.
04:00That was a beauty.
04:01A slider that Correa cuts through.
04:03Second strikeout for George.
04:05He's held the Astros scoreless through four.
04:07George Kirby's been very good today.
04:09Three hits allowed, all singles.
04:11He is not allowed a runner to reach second base yet.
04:14He's been working ahead of pretty much everybody.
04:16Blind into right field for a base hit.
04:18Cam Smith has been one of the bright spots during this skid for the Astros.
04:21He's really seen the ball well.
04:23First pitch to Trammell, and he smacks it through the left side.
04:25A base hit.
04:25Down the second goes Smith.
04:27Taylor Trammell not waiting around.
04:28Got a hanging curveball.
04:30And got it right past the drawn-in Donovan to the third baseman's left.
04:34And the first two Astros have reached.
04:36First time today that the Astros have had a man in scoring position.
04:39So the Astros now up to five hits, all singles.
04:42Geiner accounted for the Astros' only run yesterday with a home run.
04:45He hit it out to the left, his first home run of the year.
04:47That came against Logan Gilbert.
04:49Sends one in the left center.
04:50That should score a run.
04:51Parrish Chica is waving Cam Smith home.
04:53He'll score easily.
04:55Astros on the board.
04:56It's now a five-to-one game.
04:57Geiner Diaz with an RBI single.
05:00And the Astros are on the board here in the top of the fifth inning.
05:03And still nobody out here in the fifth.
05:07Infield is back up the middle.
05:08They're trying to turn two and give up a run.
05:10Trying to do it.
05:11Nobody out.
05:12Dwayne and a chopper right to Young at second base.
05:14He's got it over to J.P.
05:15There's one.
05:16The throw to first.
05:16End time for the double play.
05:18And, yeah, the Astros get a run out of it.
05:19But the Mariners just want to stay away from the big, big inning.
05:23Double play.
05:24Allen is out at first base.
05:26They get Diaz at second.
05:29Taylor Tramiel will score from third.
05:30And it's now the Mariners five and the Astros two.
05:34But it's a 4-6-3 double play.
05:37I know they scored that second round.
05:38But just all of a sudden, you're out away.
05:41A couple pitches away from getting through a massive jam.
05:44Swinging a chopper up the middle.
05:45J.P. Crawford way to his left.
05:47Has it near the bag.
05:48The throw to first.
05:48And it's in time to get Altuve.
05:50Nice play by J.P. Crawford to retire the side.
05:53Well, it's now the Mariners five and the Astros two
05:56as we head to the bottom of the fifth inning.
05:58Julio, he is really having a nice series.
06:02His second hit today, a firm base hit through the left side.
06:05And that brings up Naylor.
06:06Yeah, that timing's starting to show up for Julio.
06:10Naylor has never had a three-homer game.
06:12In fact, in the history of this great ballpark,
06:15which opened up midway through the 1999 season,
06:18only one player has ever hit three home runs in a game at T-Mobile Park.
06:24It was Victor Martinez in 2004.
06:28Gets underneath this one.
06:31Altuve drifting into foul ground.
06:33One away.
06:35Home run number three will have to wait.
06:37That's a ground ball to Walker at first.
06:39Julio was off with the pitch, so he's in the second.
06:42Run around at second.
06:43Two outs.
06:44Five, two Mariners.
06:45And that'll bring up Luke Rayland.
06:47This is in a right field base hit.
06:49Julio's on his way home.
06:50Cam Smith with no throw, and the Mariners get one of those runs back.
06:54Luke Rayleigh's having a nice series as well.
06:57It's 6-2 M's.
07:00Luke in that first at-bat, hit a broken bat, base hit to right.
07:03This time, he gets that slider down.
07:06This little one-hopper right past a diving Altuve.
07:09Plenty of time for Julio to come around and score.
07:12You think about this game from the Astros' perspective, or this series, rather.
07:16After you lost the first two, you still had to face Gilbert, and then today Kirby.
07:22I think it's easy for us to kind of lose sight of the depth of this rotation.
07:26You miss Wu, and you're still facing the other four, and the Mariners are in prime position
07:31for a sweep now.
07:32Strike, three, call.
07:34Kirby nails through seven.
07:36A lot to be lost in a six-run effort for the Mariners.
07:40What George Kirby is doing today.
07:42Young with a diving catch.
07:44Cole Young taking a hit away.
07:47Cole Young ready right here.
07:49A couple of steps and a dive to his left.
07:51Great play by the Young second baseman.
07:53Well, this has been a masterful afternoon for George Kirby.
07:58He has largely dominated the Astros today, absolutely pounding the strike zone again today,
08:05and holding the Astros to just a pair of runs.
08:08George Kirby, magnificent as always today inside T-Mobile Park.
08:13Well, the new pitcher for the Mariners, right-hander Matt Brash.
08:16Runners at first and second, two outs, top of the eighths.
08:19A swing and a line shot left field toward the line.
08:21Over is Randy Rosarino at the one-eat track.
08:23He's there, and he makes the catch.
08:25Tosses the souvenir to somebody in Edgar's Cantina,
08:28and that will retire the side.
08:30Way outside for ball four, so Walker draws a walk,
08:34and with a four-run lead, you don't want to put anybody on base.
08:38And here's Carlos Correa.
08:39Out to the alleyway, right center field, driven deep.
08:42Raley is in front of the track, and he makes the catch.
08:45So one away for the Astros here in the top of the ninth inning.
08:48Walker back to first base, and that'll bring up Cam Smith.
08:51Two-two.
08:53Out to the gap again.
08:55Raley adjusting on the warning track.
08:58Jumps it.
08:59Look, Raley makes the catch up against the wall.
09:02Leaps up at the top of the fence, and he makes the catch.
09:06A long throw into second base.
09:09Raley timing his lead perfectly at the top of the wall in right field.
09:14Well hit by Cam Smith, and Raley with an outstanding catch for the second out of the inning.
09:21He was up there by the yellow stripe on top of the wall in right field.
09:25What a play by Luke.
09:26Rolled over to first.
09:28Snaylor's got it.
09:29Wilcox covers.
09:30That's the ball game.
09:31How quickly fortunes can change.
09:35The Mariners come back home, and they sweep their division rival, Houston Astros,
09:40and four games, six to the final today.
09:44And the Mariners really getting some things going.
09:46That offense has really turned around against the Houston Astros here.
09:51Julio Rodriguez, a guy who's got that bat swinging.
09:55But today, what an afternoon by George Kirby, one of the co-stars of the story here.
10:01Kirby went seven and two innings, giving up only two runs.
10:05But it was Josh Naylor with two big home runs, five RBIs.
10:10And that guy right there, Luke Raley, doing a little with the leather
10:13and a little bit with the lumber with three hits here this afternoon.
