00:00And those photographs were published all around the world and nobody's been able to prove that
00:04the images are not real. Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the 50
00:10creepiest photos that are linked to unsolved mysteries. The camera looks down through the
00:14doorway and sees in as far as here. Number 50, the Zodiac's wanted poster. Any witnesses? Kids
00:22have called in, Sally's suspect from that window. Did they hear a shot? No, they first saw him in
00:28the front seat thought he was a drunk fighting with the driver. Oldest kid ran downstairs to get a
00:32better look from the dining room, described him as a white male, glasses, crew cut, stocky, wearing a
00:37dark jacket. If we asked you to name the most famous wanted poster in true crime history, chances are
00:42you'd think of the Zodiacs. Originally made back in 1969, this thing has lived on in pop culture for
00:48decades, his face peering at us as if begging us to catch him. The poster shows a composite sketch of
00:54the still uncaught Zodiac created from eyewitness accounts, particularly from cops who unknowingly
01:00talked to the killer and from a group of teenagers who witnessed the murder of Paul Stein. Despite the
01:05massive proliferation of the wanted poster, the mystery man was never caught. To this day, the
01:10Zodiac's wanted poster remains a startling reminder of a famous American true crime and a reminder that
01:16he got away with it. Number 49, the Calvin UFO. This photograph from the Calvin Hills in Scotland
01:35is crystal clear. It's in color. It shows this just magical looking 100 foot long diamond shaped
01:42craft that is clear as a bell. This famous photograph taken in Scotland in 1990 is often
01:49described as one of the eeriest images in ufology. It depicts a massive diamond shaped craft hovering in
01:54the sky with a military jet nearby, as if observing or intercepting it. Creepy enough, but what makes
02:00the case even more unsettling is how the case was handled. The witnesses told their story to the
02:05Glasgow-based Daily Record and handed them the original negative of the photograph, but the story was
02:10never published. The negatives were then handed over to the Ministry of Defense and subsequently
02:15vanished. It was only when journalist David Clark found the photo and published it in 2022 that it
02:20saw the light of day, and it has captivated alien enthusiasts ever since. Craig Lindsay managed to
02:26keep a print of one of those negatives, thinking at the time, you know, I might have one of the greatest
02:32photographs of all time here. He kept that in his possession and kept it quiet for over 30 years,
02:37and we've got now the clearest photo of what potentially is a craft of non-human origin.
02:42Number 48. Bigfoot.
02:44When I first saw her, she was standing upright.
02:49I thought, you know, this is unreal.
02:52Want to start an endless debate? Ask someone if Bigfoot exists. This famous photograph shows what is
02:58purported to be Bigfoot, mid-stride and looking towards the camera. This photo was taken as part of
03:03the larger Patterson-Gimlin film, which was shot in remote Northern California in 1967. The footage has
03:10sparked endless debate and analysis throughout the decades, with numerous scientific investigations
03:14trying to debunk it. However, these have never produced a satisfactory answer, and even the answers
03:20they do give are often dismissed by cryptozoologists and Bigfoot believers. That lingering uncertainty,
03:26the possibility that something unknown was genuinely captured on film,
03:30is what keeps the Patterson-Gimlin footage so haunting and compelling.
03:34All this time, I'm thinking, holy mackerel, these things do exist.
03:38Number 47. Adrian Mennevu and Felicity Loveday.
03:42In December 2019, Australian man Adrian Mennevu and his mother, Felicity Loveday,
03:47vanished after setting out on a boating trip from Frankston. Their disappearance drew widespread
03:51media attention, particularly because of the haunting last known photo of them together.
03:56Taken by Loveday's daughter, it shows Mennevu preparing the boat while Loveday sits immobile
04:01in the passenger seat. They were ruled to have died at sea, with one theory claiming that it was
04:06an intentional act from Mennevu, who reportedly wished to rid his mother of, quote, bad magic.
04:11Unfortunately, we can't show you the photo itself, as there is one further haunting possibility,
04:16that Loveday may have already been dead by the time it was captured.
04:20Number 46. The Ghost of Abraham Lincoln.
04:23And from time to time, you hear stories told about strange happenings in the middle of the
04:28night. Probably most famously, perhaps, is Ronald Reagan, whose dog Rex, would bark at the room as
04:35if there was somebody in there and would refuse to go in.
04:38This is a famous photograph created by William H. Mumler, a controversial 19th century photographer
04:44known for trailblazing the practice of spirit photography, which is said to contain ghosts.
04:48Taken in 1872, the image shows the faint apparition of the late Abraham Lincoln standing protectively
04:55behind his widow, Mary Todd. For Mary, who was still deeply grief-stricken, the photo was a source
05:00of comfort, and it reinforced her strong belief in spiritualism, which was widespread during the
05:05post-Civil War era, with hundreds of thousands dead. Critics, however, accused Mumler of fraud,
05:11arguing that he used double exposure and other photographic techniques to create his ghostly effects.
05:16While it's almost certainly a hoax, no one knows, even to this day, exactly how he pulled it off.
05:22I'm not saying I believe in ghosts Reagan wrote in his autobiography, but it nearly made me a believer.
05:27I think in some ways people might like the idea that Lincoln is still hanging around watching over us.
05:32Number 45, Tara Calico.
05:34In 1988, 19-year-old Tara Calico leaves for a morning bike ride and never comes back.
05:41This is another photo we cannot show you given its graphic nature, but rest assured that it is very creepy,
05:47not to mention very famous. A woman named Tara Calico disappeared in New Mexico on September 20th, 1988,
05:54likely the result of a kidnapping.
05:56On June 15th, 1989, a woman found a haunting photo in the parking lot of a Florida convenience store.
06:01It depicts a young woman and a boy bound and duct-taped and lying on a bed.
06:06The photographer has never been found, and the two victims remain officially unidentified.
06:11However, Scotland Yard concluded that it was Calico, as did Calico's own mother,
06:16who identified her daughter by the scar on her leg and the presence of her favorite book.
06:21This is Tara Calico. She is 19 years old when she vanished in 1988.
06:26Her parents have since passed away, and even the original sheriff on the case is gone.
06:31But the search for answers has not stopped.
06:34Number 44. The Anguished Man.
06:36More than 20 years ago, my grandmother left me a painting known as The Anguished Man.
06:44There have been plenty of creepy paintings throughout the years, but few quite like The Anguished Man.
06:50The painting itself is terrifying enough, depicting a stylized figure with red skin and no eyes who is seemingly screaming in agony.
06:57The painting is owned by an Englishman named Sean Robinson, but the source of the work, including the artist, is completely unknown.
07:04Even creepier, legend has it that the artist mixed the paint with his own blood while creating the piece,
07:09and that he took his own life soon after its completion.
07:12Of course, it's entirely possible that Robinson has made the whole story up, but it's impossible to say for sure.
07:18My grandma always told me the painting was evil, and after living with it myself, I understood how right she was.
07:28Number 43. The Last Photo of Chris McCandless.
07:31Outdoors, man. What's your fascination with all that stuff?
07:35I'm going to Alaska.
07:37Alaska, Alaska?
07:38Or City, Alaska, because they do have markets in Alaska.
07:42His story made famous by Into the Wild, Chris McCandless ventured into the Alaskan wilderness to live off the land,
07:49but he only lasted about 113 days before dying.
07:52In a terrifying realization, Chris knew that he wasn't going to make it, so he posed for this photo,
07:58which shows him happily waving to the camera and holding a goodbye sign.
08:01Indeed, his corpse was later found by a hunter.
08:04To this day, no one really knows what killed McCandless.
08:08It could have been simple starvation from a lack of food.
08:10He could have been paralyzed, which prevented him from scavenging.
08:14Or he could have eaten poisonous seeds, which either killed him outright
08:17or prevented his body from metabolizing the food he was eating.
08:20The climactic battle to kill the false being within
08:26and victoriously conclude the spiritual revolution.
08:31Number 42. The Sodder Children.
08:33On Christmas Eve 1945, a fire raged in the Sodder home in Fayetteville, West Virginia.
08:39Five of the Sodder children were believed to have died, but their remains were never found in the rubble.
08:44George and Jenny Sodder came to believe their children had been kidnapped,
08:48and so they set up this creepy billboard along Route 16 near Fayetteville,
08:51which became a sort of macabre landmark for decades.
08:54Maybe even creepier, Jenny Sodder received a strange envelope in the mail in 1967.
08:59Inside was a photo of a grown man purported to be her missing son, Louis.
09:03The Sodders hired a private detective to investigate, but he vanished without a trace,
09:08leaving the identity of the man in the photo unknown.
09:11Number 41. The Oma Photo.
09:13We had experienced this brief period of peace, and then it was completely shattered by something so horrendous.
09:19It's amazing how a seemingly ordinary photo can hold such a devastating secret.
09:23In this famous photograph, a man in a yellow shirt is seen holding a child on his shoulders and standing next to a red car.
09:29It was taken in the town of Oma, Northern Ireland, on August 15, 1998, only moments before the very same car exploded.
09:37You see, the real IRA had placed a bomb in the vehicle as an act of terrorism,
09:42and when it exploded, it killed 29 people and injured hundreds more.
09:46The camera from which this picture was taken was retrieved from the rubble.
09:50Amazingly, reports indicate that both the man and the child survived.
09:54However, the photographer did not, and their identity remains a mystery.
09:58We just hugged each other and cried, and there was no need for words.
10:03Number 40. The Lead Masks.
10:05On August 20, 1966, a boy was playing in Niteroi when he stumbled across the bodies of Manuel Pereira da Cruz and Miguel Jose Viana.
10:14Both men were adorned in suits, and both were wearing homemade eye masks made from lead.
10:19Nearby was a mysterious note reading,
10:21Unfortunately, their mysterious deaths have never been solved.
10:34No one knows how they died or what the masks were intended for.
10:37One leading theory comes from a mutual friend,
10:39who claims that they ingested psychedelic drugs in an attempt to make contact with aliens,
10:44and the masks were made to shield them from the bright lights of the UFO.
10:47Number 39. Trunko.
11:02We've only explored 20% of Earth's oceans.
11:06So, are these mystery blobs just an undiscovered creature of the deep?
11:10If you think Trunko sounds like some kind of Lovecraftian monster, you wouldn't be far off.
11:15It was the name given to a strange sea creature sighted off the coast of Margate, South Africa in 1924.
11:21Witnesses reported seeing Trunko fight off two killer whales for hours.
11:25The fight allegedly ended with the creature's death,
11:28and its body later washed ashore where it was photographed.
11:31Witnesses claimed that it looked like, quote,
11:33a giant polar bear, complete with white fur and an elephantine trunk.
11:37However, no scientific examination was conducted, and the body eventually disappeared.
11:42To this day, no one knows exactly what it was,
11:46but many cryptozoologists consider Trunko a classic globster,
11:50a disgusting name for the large organic mass of a decayed whale carcass.
11:54After a whale dies, there's a lot of gases which build up inside their body,
11:58and there's no exit point, or at least their mouth or their bottom isn't working at this stage.
12:03So over time, they'll find an exit point for the gases to go out,
12:06and the animal will deflate and will potentially float down to the bottom of the sea.
12:12Number 38, D.B. Cooper's money.
12:15The young boy uncovers three bundles of moldy cash, with the rubber bands still intact.
12:22The father and son turn it into the FBI.
12:25In 1980, nearly a decade after the infamous D.B. Cooper hijacking,
12:29a boy named Brian Ingram discovered a decayed bundle of $20 bills
12:33along the Columbia River near Vancouver, Washington.
12:35The money matched the serial numbers of the $200,000 ransom
12:39given to the mysterious hijacker back in 1971,
12:42who had parachuted from an airplane with the money.
12:44He was never seen again.
12:46The find was intriguing, but it only accounted for about $5,800,
12:51leaving the vast majority of the ransom, like the man himself, still untraced and unfound.
12:56Despite extensive searches,
12:58no additional money or definitive evidence of Cooper's fate has ever surfaced.
13:01Yeah, he probably died, but it's more fun to imagine him getting away with it.
13:06The money is found more than 20 miles from Dan Cooper's drop zone
13:10and in the opposite direction from where the wind was blowing.
13:16To add to the confusion,
13:19geologists determine that the money is sitting above an area dredged in 1974.
13:25Number 37, Foo Fighters.
13:27Make my way back home and I learned to fight
13:30No, not those Foo Fighters.
13:34Foo Fighters were actually mysterious aerial phenomena reported by Allied pilots during World War II.
13:39These glowing orbs, lights, or shapes would appear near aircraft,
13:43sometimes pacing or maneuvering with remarkable agility.
13:46Pilots often described them as bright spheres that seemed to defy known technology,
13:50performing sudden stops, rapid turns, or high-speed chases.
13:53Classic UFO behavior.
13:56But unlike enemy planes,
13:57they showed no hostile action,
13:59leaving airmen confused and uneasy.
14:02Initially, some believed they were secret German weapons or advanced Japanese aircraft,
14:06but no evidence has ever supported this.
14:09After the war,
14:10scientists speculated they might be atmospheric effects,
14:13ball lightning,
14:14or visual illusions caused by stress and fatigue.
14:17In other words,
14:18no one has any idea what they were.
14:20My father would refer to the Foo Fighters as sort of an example of something that
14:24there's something fairly serious that we should look into.
14:27Number 36,
14:29The Burnham Family House.
14:30This is the Burnham family home of Colorado Springs,
14:33surrounded by a gaggle of onlookers.
14:36The photo was taken in September 1911,
14:38shortly after May Alice Burnham and her two children were found dead in the house.
14:42Three members of the nearby Wayne family were also murdered that same night.
14:46These were the first Midwestern victims of Billy the Axeman,
14:50a still-unidentified serial killer who plagued the American Midwest in the early 20th century.
14:55Nothing is known about the man himself,
14:57aside from the fact that he often targeted families
15:00and likely used the American rail system to get around.
15:03Not even his victim count is truly known.
15:05Some estimates say as little as 24,
15:08others as high as 94.
15:11Number 35,
15:12The Black Dahlia Murder Letter.
15:13Hey, listen up.
15:15No reporters view the body.
15:16Photo men, finish taking your pictures now.
15:19Current men, put a sheet on the body as soon as they're done.
15:22We set up a perimeter six feet back.
15:24Any reporter crosses it, arrests.
15:26Shortly after the 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short,
15:30her killer allegedly sent numerous letters to various Los Angeles newspapers.
15:34These messages, often written in a mix of cut-out magazine clippings,
15:38mocked police efforts and gloated about the crime.
15:41One infamous letter read,
15:42Here is Dahlia's belongings,
15:44and included Short's birth certificate and business cards,
15:47seemingly confirming the sender's involvement.
15:50And in this one sent to the Herald Express,
15:52the killer says,
15:53I will give up on Dahlia killing if I get 10 years.
15:56Don't try to find me.
15:57Despite extensive analysis,
15:59the authenticity of the letters remains disputed,
16:02with many investigators believing they were hoaxes from opportunists.
16:05Either way,
16:06neither Short's killer nor the author of these threatening letters have ever been found.
16:10Abdominal cavity reveals no free-flowing blood,
16:14intestines, stomach, spleen, liver, all removed.
16:18Number 34.
16:19Hinterkaifeck
16:20In March 1922,
16:22the quiet Hinterkaifeck farmstead in Bavaria became the scene of one of Germany's most infamous unsolved crimes.
16:28Six people,
16:29Andreas and Cecilia Gruber,
16:31their daughter Victoria,
16:32her two children,
16:33and the family maid,
16:34were brutally murdered with a mattock.
16:36Four family members were lured one by one into the barn,
16:39where they were slaughtered by a still-unknown assailant.
16:42The maid and young Yosef were then killed inside the house.
16:45Strangely,
16:46the killer stayed on the farm for several days after,
16:49feeding the livestock,
16:50cooking meals,
16:51and keeping the homestead in order,
16:53suggesting eerie familiarity and composure.
16:55In this chilling photo taken by Andreas Biglieder,
16:58the Hinterkaifeck farm sits quiet and abandoned five days after its owners were killed.
17:03Number 33.
17:05The Voynich Manuscript
17:06But then there are various pages that are just entirely paragraphs and paragraphs of running text.
17:12So we have no other examples of this script anywhere.
17:16We don't know what it's about.
17:18We can't read any of it.
17:19This illustrated book defies all logic.
17:22It's believed to have been created in the early 15th century,
17:25and it's written in an unknown script that has resisted all attempts at translation.
17:29Its pages are filled with strange drawings of plants that don't exist,
17:34bizarre diagrams,
17:35and unsettling human figures interacting with odd machinery and bathing in green liquid.
17:40Despite centuries of academic study,
17:42no one has managed to crack its code,
17:44leading to endless speculation about its nature.
17:46Some think it's an elaborate hoax or meaningless ramblings,
17:50while others believe it encodes forgotten knowledge or an unknown language.
17:54It sits at the edge of the known and the unknowable,
17:56a tangible object meticulously crafted,
18:00yet taunting us with secrets we cannot know.
18:02The fact that the manuscript is written in a way that nobody else could read it
18:08suggests that it is preserving knowledge that someone wanted to keep secret.
18:14Number 32.
18:15The Time-Traveling Hipster
18:17Wow! Way to go, guys!
18:18Have a galerine pra pala.
18:20Hey!
18:21Hey!
18:21Hey!
18:21Hey!
18:23It's original!
18:24You all know it.
18:25It's one of the most famous photos on the internet.
18:27It was taken in 1941 at the South Fork Bridge in Goldbridge, British Columbia,
18:32and it depicts what looks like a modern man in a period setting.
18:35While everyone else seems to be in old-timey outfits,
18:38the so-called time-traveling hipster is wearing sunglasses and what looks like a t-shirt,
18:43and he's carrying a curiously small camera.
18:46The mystery remains as to who this is and why he's dressed so differently from the rest.
18:50But as for the clothes, those actually did exist in the early 40s.
18:54So while he's certainly out of place stylistically,
18:57he wouldn't have been branded as a man from the future.
19:00Look, I am not stupid, you know.
19:03They cannot make things like that yet.
19:06Not yet.
19:08Not for about 40 years.
19:12Are you saying it's from the future?
19:14Number 31.
19:15The Utah Monolith
19:16A giant piece of metal sticking out of the rocks,
19:19and no one, this is the weird part,
19:21has any idea how it got there or who put it there.
19:25This mysterious metal pillar was discovered in November 2020
19:28in a remote desert canyon in southeastern Utah.
19:31Standing just under 10 feet,
19:33the sleek triangular structure was embedded in the ground
19:35and resembled something out of science fiction,
19:38quickly drawing comparisons to 2001 A Space Odyssey.
19:41Its origins sparked widespread speculation.
19:43Was it an art installation, a prank,
19:46or something more otherworldly?
19:49And while it wasn't discovered until 2020,
19:51it had actually been sitting there since 2016,
19:54its very existence unremarked upon.
19:57Within days, curious visitors flocked to the site,
20:00and just as suddenly as it appeared,
20:02the monolith vanished.
20:03It now sits in the custody of the Bureau of Land Management,
20:06but countless questions still remain,
20:08like who made it and what it was for.
20:10Nobody knows for sure when it showed up.
20:12I mean, there's evidence that it has probably been there
20:15for a handful of years,
20:17and then it mysteriously vanished,
20:19just as mysterious as it appeared.
20:21So what do we investigate?
20:23Number 30, the Baltic Sea Anomaly.
20:26People love them some underwater mysteries,
20:28and the Baltic Sea Anomaly has to be one of the most famous.
20:32This strange, odd thing just turned up on the monitor.
20:37The widely circulated sonar image depicts a large structure
20:41at the bottom of the ocean,
20:42and may we say it looks suspiciously like the Millennium Falcon.
20:46It was almost perfectly round,
20:48180 feet in diameter,
20:50and it looked like a UFO.
20:53This picture was taken in 2011
20:54by a Swedish diving team looking for underwater treasure.
20:58Many people assumed it was a sunken UFO,
21:01while others speculated that it was some type of giant human-made structure
21:04that was long lost to history.
21:06Others have provided more down-to-earth suggestions,
21:09like a school of fish or a simple rock formation.
21:12But in my eyes, I see a crash site.
21:17Number 29, the Mysterious Hand.
21:20Back in 2016, Belfast Live was sent a creepy photograph
21:24by a woman named Linda.
21:26Dated from 1900,
21:28it shows a group of female factory workers
21:30with their arms crossed.
21:32One of the women is Linda's grandmother,
21:33Ellen Donnelly,
21:34and over Donnelly's shoulder
21:36is what looks like a disembodied hand
21:38with clear, prominent fingers.
21:40This photo was quickly disseminated through the media,
21:44with Inside Edition calling it a, quote,
21:46mysterious ghost hand.
21:47Check out those fingers resting on the girl's shoulder.
21:51It even made its way to Snopes,
21:53but they were unable to properly debunk the photo.
21:56The likely answer is that the mystery hand
21:59resulted from a long camera exposure.
22:01The supernatural answer is, of course,
22:04well, we don't want to think about that.
22:06So far, no one's confirmed either were ghosts,
22:09but the new Ghostbusters movie is coming out.
22:11Maybe they can weigh in.
22:13Number 28, Michael Rockefeller.
22:16In November of 1961,
22:1823-year-old Michael Rockefeller
22:20ventured into the jungles of modern-day South Papua
22:22and never returned.
22:23He was declared legally dead in 1964,
22:27and the common opinion is that he was killed by the natives.
22:30Despite such an intensive search,
22:32nothing was found.
22:33But that doesn't explain this eerie photo
22:35of a man who looks suspiciously like
22:37a bearded Michael Rockefeller
22:39spending time with the locals.
22:40Is it possible this is Michael Rockefeller?
22:44Well, we don't know.
22:45This footage was taken by a videographer
22:47hired by journalist Milt Macklin,
22:49who was investigating the disappearance in 1969.
22:52The photo was finally shared in the documentary
22:55The Search for Michael Rockefeller,
22:57inciting more than a few raised eyebrows.
22:59The more you blow something up,
23:00the grainier it becomes.
23:02Number 27, the Moon Pyramid.
23:05Obviously, there's not a secret pyramid
23:07hidden on the moon, right?
23:08Right, guys?
23:09Apollo 17 was the final mission
23:11of the iconic Apollo program,
23:13occurring over 12 and a half days
23:15in December of 1972.
23:16We'd like to dedicate the first step
23:19of Apollo 17
23:21to all those who made it possible.
23:24The astronauts ventured to an area
23:26known as Geophone Rock
23:27and took a number of photos,
23:29one of which was simply labeled blank.
23:32But if you turn up the contrast,
23:34you can clearly see what appears to be a pyramid.
23:37Simple trick of the eye,
23:38the result of film grain and bad lighting?
23:41Some other pyramid-shaped device or structure?
23:44Maybe a genuine pyramid?
23:46You be the judge.
23:47We're just saying,
23:48this was the last time
23:49that humans stepped foot on the moon.
23:51Look at that!
23:52Look at that!
23:53Look at that!
23:54Number 26, the Cooper Family Photo.
23:57This is one of the most famous
23:59paranormal photographs circulating the web.
24:01Known as the Cooper Family Photo,
24:03it shows the family sitting by a table,
24:06having just moved into a new Texas home.
24:08To the right of the family
24:09is what appears to be
24:10a clear human body falling from the ceiling.
24:13Despite valiant attempts to debunk the photo,
24:16no clear consensus has been reached.
24:19If it's fake,
24:20it was likely staged by the family themselves,
24:22as the photo is poorly framed
24:24to include negative space for the body.
24:26Some have also theorized double exposure.
24:29Whatever the case,
24:30it is still creepy as hell.
24:33Number 25,
24:34the photos of Chris Kramers and Lissana Frone.
24:37Blank photos are not inherently scary,
24:40but they take on fear
24:41when context is taken into account.
24:43On April 1st, 2014,
24:46Dutch hikers Chris Kramers and Lissana Frone
24:48went missing while hiking in Panama.
24:50Official Panamanian conclusion,
24:52they fell off a bridge while crossing river.
24:5410 weeks later,
24:56a local woman found Frone's backpack
24:57and reported it to police.
24:59Inside was a camera,
25:01and investigators discovered 90 photos
25:03taken between 1 and 4 a.m.
25:05on the morning of April 8th.
25:07Which are like something out of a horror movie.
25:09Most of these photos are blank,
25:10having been taken in complete darkness.
25:13But a few show objects like a twig
25:15and the back of Kramer's head.
25:17Unfortunately,
25:17their bones were later found scattered on a riverbank,
25:20proving that the two had perished.
25:22The reason for the 90 photos is still unclear.
25:26These photographs to me look like
25:27they're taken from inside a nightmare.
25:31There's something definitely peculiar
25:37and not right about this location.
25:39Located 20 miles south of Chicago
25:41is Bachelor's Grove Cemetery,
25:43which is said to be
25:44one of the most haunted cemeteries in America.
25:46One particular ghost said to be haunting the grounds
25:49is the Madonna or the Lady in White.
25:51And if you believe this photo,
25:53the Lady in White was captured on film back in 1991.
25:56None are more famous
25:58than the iconic photo of the woman
26:00sitting on the tombstone.
26:01Judy Huff-Fells was exploring the cemetery
26:04with the local ghost research society
26:06when she felt a presence.
26:07She took a photo with an infrared camera
26:09and captured what is clearly a woman
26:11sitting on a nearby stone.
26:13If this is real,
26:15it is solid proof of the paranormal.
26:17Of course, it could also be staged.
26:20What do you think?
26:21Spiritual.
26:22Terrifying.
26:23Haunted.
26:24All right, Kubrick fans,
26:28get in here
26:28because we have a real monolith on our hands.
26:31Okay, it's probably just a rock,
26:33but hey, one can dream.
26:35Back in 2005,
26:36the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
26:38was launched from Cape Canaveral
26:39with the objective of finding water
26:41on the dry red planet.
26:43What they found instead
26:44was the Mars Monolith,
26:45a giant structure
26:46in the middle of a barren plain.
26:48The photo was taken
26:49from a distance of 180 miles
26:52and depicts a massive rectangular structure
26:54casting a huge shadow.
26:56This bears a very close resemblance
26:58to another monolith
26:59found on Mars' moon Phobos,
27:01which experts theorize
27:02is just a giant rock.
27:04So what do you think?
27:05Rock or magic interdimensional structure?
27:08Buzz Aldrin,
27:09the second man to walk on the moon,
27:11made a really big deal out of this
27:12and basically claimed
27:14that it was artificial.
27:15Number 22.
27:16Fairy Circles.
27:17Found primarily in the Namib Desert of Africa,
27:21but also appearing in Western Australia,
27:23fairy circles make for striking
27:25and difficult-to-explain photos.
27:27The odd patches are large circles of barren land
27:30in the middle of an otherwise grassy area.
27:32There are various local myths
27:34that attempt to explain the phenomenon.
27:36According to some,
27:38there is a dragon that lives underground,
27:40and its poisonous breath
27:41has killed the vegetation above.
27:43And according to the Himba people,
27:45they may be the footprints of gods.
27:47As for the scientific explanation,
27:49well, no one really knows.
27:52Some blame termites,
27:53others an echo hydrological feedback,
27:56in which the circle acts as a water reservoir
27:58for the surrounding grass.
28:00Number 21.
28:01The Battle of Los Angeles.
28:03It's one of the most famous photographs
28:05in UFO lore.
28:06A number of spotlights shoot from the darkness
28:08and pierce through the night sky,
28:10illuminating some type of object
28:12hundreds of feet above the ground.
28:14If this wasn't an aircraft,
28:16what was it?
28:17This retouched photo graced the front page
28:19of the Los Angeles Times
28:20on February 26th, 1942.
28:23The so-called battle occurred
28:25over the night of February 24th and 25th,
28:28with anti-aircraft forces attacking an object
28:30that was flying over LA.
28:32But were these objects Japanese planes?
28:34Or could they have been something else?
28:37The attack is officially attributed
28:39to a stray weather balloon
28:40that caused panic in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor,
28:42which occurred just three months earlier.
28:45However, many people are not convinced,
28:48with some insinuating that it was a UFO
28:50or a Japanese aircraft
28:52that was covered up by officials.
28:54People still debate whether a firefight
28:56with extraterrestrials actually took place.
28:59Number 20.
29:00The White Lady of Worsted Church.
29:03A couple's trip to Norfolk's Worsted Church
29:05produced what's arguably one of the most convincing
29:07ghost pictures in modern history.
29:10Peter Bertolo snapped a photo of his wife
29:12praying alone on one of the church benches.
29:15When the photo was developed,
29:16it showed that the wife was not alone at all,
29:19as there appears to be a whitish figure
29:22sitting behind her.
29:23Further investigation revealed
29:24that the ghost of an 1800s healer
29:27called the White Lady
29:28was long believed to haunt the church grounds,
29:31and that the photo apparently captured the entity.
29:34Diane Bertolo believed in the validity of the photo
29:37so much that it resurrected her religious verve.
29:41Number 19.
29:42The Extra Hand.
29:50Back in 2013,
29:52Reddit hosted a thread about glitch in the Matrix events
29:54that its users had experienced.
29:56One of the most popular stories from the thread
29:58came from user The Forbidden One.
30:01They included a photo of four young boys,
30:03each of whom can be seen making a hand gesture.
30:06On the right side of the photo,
30:08between the shirtless boy and the one in black,
30:10is a mysterious hand giving a thumbs up.
30:13The hand obviously does not belong to any of the boys,
30:16and the poster claimed to have no idea who it belonged to.
30:21So how the heck did that mystery thumb come to be?
30:24Or do we even want to know?
30:26I know exactly what you mean.
30:29Number 18.
30:30The Grand Canyon Grim Reaper.
30:32This photo surfaced on Reddit in the early 21st century,
30:35and has been the subject of much scrutiny ever since.
30:39The poster claimed that the photo,
30:41taken sometime in the 70s or 80s,
30:43shows his uncle standing on a rock ledge
30:46overlooking the Grand Canyon.
30:48What they didn't realize,
30:49until the photo was developed that is,
30:51was that a figure was standing in the foliage behind him.
30:54The person appears to be wearing a black cloak,
30:57looks much taller than a human,
30:59and very much resembles...
31:00It's the Grim Reaper, dude.
31:03The uncle, and his friends who took the photo,
31:06claimed that they never saw the figure,
31:08and were the only ones occupying that spot of the canyon.
31:12Anybody else have goosebumps?
31:14Number 17.
31:15The Sulway Firth Spaceman.
31:17An astronaut?
31:18A ghost?
31:19A beekeeper?
31:20This mysterious figure in white,
31:22has fascinated people for decades.
31:24On May 23rd, 1964,
31:27English firefighter Jim Templeton
31:28was on a day trip in Cumbria
31:30with his wife Annie and daughter Elizabeth.
31:32He snapped three photos of his daughter,
31:34only to discover that the middle photo
31:36included someone standing behind her.
31:38After he brought it to the press,
31:39the photo went viral,
31:41and naturally, we guess,
31:42a lot of people concluded
31:43that extraterrestrials must be to blame.
31:46Investigative journalist David Clark
31:48has suggested the figure was Templeton's wife,
31:50and that her dress showed up as white
31:52due to overexposure.
31:54A trick of the camera, or aliens?
31:57We'll let you decide.
31:58Number 16.
32:00The Hook Island Sea Monster.
32:02Located off the coast of Queensland, Australia,
32:04Hook Island is one of the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.
32:06It made international news in 1964
32:09after a man named Robert Le Cirec
32:12released a series of photos he took
32:13in Hook Island's Stonehaven Bay.
32:15The photos seem to depict
32:16a massive tadpole-like creature
32:18under the surface of the water.
32:20A small boat with a human passenger
32:22can be seen near the monster's tail,
32:24giving the photo a sense of scale.
32:26It is by far one of the most popular photographs
32:28in cryptozoology,
32:30and has been widely discussed
32:31and theorized about for decades.
32:33Number 15.
32:35The Hampton Court Ghost.
32:37By the River Thames in the greater London area
32:39is Hampton Court,
32:41a popular royal court palace
32:42dating back to the early 16th century.
32:45Many have lived and died here.
32:47Small wonder then that it is often considered
32:49to be one of the most haunted buildings in Britain.
32:52In the winter of 2003,
32:53security was continuously called
32:55to the palace's clock court,
32:57as a fire-escape door kept opening on its own.
33:00Upon looking at the security footage,
33:01they were met with a horrifying sight.
33:04A figure,
33:05a rather strange,
33:06tall,
33:07spare figure,
33:08appears after the doors open
33:10and closes them.
33:11What looks like a cloaked
33:13and skeletal figure
33:14can be seen opening
33:15and closing the doors.
33:17That very same day,
33:18a tourist had reported
33:20seeing a ghostly figure
33:21in the exact same area.
33:23If this is indeed a ghost,
33:25then the Hampton Court Palace
33:26needs an exorcist.
33:28What's important,
33:28and what's interesting
33:29is not who closed these doors,
33:32but what opened them.
33:34Number 14,
33:35the Falcon Lake Incident.
33:36Canada is home
33:37to one of the most documented
33:39and convincing UFO stories
33:40in modern history.
33:42A man named Stefan Michalak
33:44claimed to have been burned
33:45by a UFO
33:46near Manitoba's Falcon Lake
33:47in May 1967.
33:49According to Stephen,
33:50the craft rotated counterclockwise,
33:53knocking him backwards
33:54and setting his shirt on fire.
33:55In fact,
33:56the supposed attack
33:57has become such an integral part
33:59of Canadian legend
34:00that it was depicted
34:01on the Royal Canadian Mint's
34:02$20 silver coin.
34:04The famous picture
34:05shows Michalak
34:06sitting in a bed
34:07with numerous circles
34:08burned into a skin
34:09in a grid-like pattern.
34:11One skeptic believes
34:12that Michalak was injured
34:13while prospecting for ore
34:15and that he lied about a UFO
34:17to scare other prospectors away.
34:19However,
34:19that's just one theory of many.
34:22The truth remains unknown.
34:24Stephen still is not sure
34:26what it was he saw
34:27back in 1967.
34:29Number 13.
34:30The Skunk Ape
34:31Every region has its own
34:33unique cryptozoological creature
34:34and Florida has the Skunk Ape.
34:37As its name suggests,
34:38the Skunk Ape is said
34:40to resemble a walking ape,
34:41specifically an orangutan,
34:43and carries a horrible odor.
34:45They got a smell.
34:46It's a definite odor.
34:47Smells like a wet dog
34:49or a goat maybe.
34:51It's essentially
34:51the Sasquatch of the East
34:53and a stinky one at that.
34:55The most famous photo
34:56of the Skunk Ape
34:56is known as the Mayaka photo
34:58and it depicts a large,
35:00black, and hairy creature
35:01with red eyes
35:02and sharp bottom teeth.
35:04The photo was taken
35:05by a Florida woman
35:06who noticed that a creature
35:07was stealing apples
35:08from her backyard.
35:09Believing it to be
35:10an escaped orangutan,
35:11the woman notified the police.
35:13However,
35:14the creature had escaped
35:15by the time they arrived.
35:16There are a lot of people
35:18who went into the woods
35:20around here
35:21and never came out.
35:22Number 12.
35:23The Backseat Ghost
35:24In 1959,
35:26Mabel Chinnery took
35:27one of the most famous
35:28ghost photographs
35:29of all time.
35:30Chinnery was visiting
35:31her mother's grave
35:32and had brought along
35:33a camera.
35:34She took a spontaneous
35:35photo of her husband
35:36who was waiting
35:37in the car nearby.
35:39When the picture
35:39was developed,
35:40the couple noticed
35:41the eerie visage
35:42of a mysterious person
35:43sitting in the backseat.
35:45The person appears
35:46to be wearing glasses
35:47and their white-collar shirt
35:49is readily apparent.
35:50Chinnery claimed
35:51that the mystery person
35:52looks exactly like
35:54her deceased mother.
35:55Some skeptics believe
35:56this is a case
35:57of double exposure
35:58or some type of reflection
36:00or trick of the light.
36:01But others
36:02are not so sure.
36:03Number 11.
36:09The SS Watertown Haunting
36:10In 1924,
36:12two crew members
36:13of the SS Watertown
36:14died mysteriously
36:15while cleaning
36:16a cargo tank.
36:17The deaths were attributed
36:18to leaked gas fumes
36:19in the closed quarters
36:20and since the ship
36:21was nowhere near land,
36:23the bodies
36:23were buried at sea.
36:25In the days
36:25following the burial,
36:26the crew reported
36:27seeing the faces
36:28of the dead
36:29in the waves
36:29and several photos
36:31were taken of the water.
36:32All of them
36:33came out normal
36:34except for this one.
36:36What's more,
36:37this photo reportedly
36:38survived several investigations
36:39by experts
36:40who concluded
36:41it has never been doctored.
36:43While a few articles
36:44like those
36:45in the Fortean Times
36:46claim to debunk the photo,
36:48conclusive evidence
36:49against its veracity
36:50has yet to be agreed upon.
36:52Number 10.
36:53The Hessdalen Lights
36:54Since at least
36:55the 1930s,
36:57strange lights
36:57have appeared
36:58in the skies
36:59around Norway's
37:00Hessdalen Valley,
37:01balls of light
37:02of different colors
37:03that hover
37:03or move sharply
37:04across the night skies.
37:06Occurring with
37:07alarming regularity
37:08between 1981
37:09and 1984,
37:10the lights
37:11attracted tourists
37:12who could see the lights
37:1315 to 20 times
37:15a week on average.
37:16One photo captured
37:17the phenomenon
37:18incredibly,
37:19with the lights
37:20appearing as a giant
37:21ethereal cluster
37:22with a prismed rainbow
37:23reflected underneath.
37:25Though UFOs
37:26are often cited
37:27as the supposed culprit,
37:29scientists have come up
37:30with several hypotheses
37:31ranging from
37:32the combustion
37:32of natural elements
37:33to the ionization
37:35of certain particles.
37:37The lights still occur
37:38in the early 21st century,
37:39but less frequently
37:40than before.
37:41The picture remains
37:43unexplained.
37:44Number 9.
37:45The Spectre of Newby Church
37:47This 1963 photo
37:49taken of the Newby Church
37:50in North Yorkshire, UK
37:51features an unexpected figure
37:53in the right corner.
37:55The spectre,
37:56the supposed ghost
37:56of a 16th century monk,
37:58appears to have a shroud
38:00over his face
38:00and his hands
38:01in a position
38:02of worship or mourning.
38:04Experts have examined
38:05the photo,
38:06and though the figure
38:06was theorized
38:07to be a case
38:08of double exposure,
38:09it was concluded
38:10that this is not the case
38:12and that the photo
38:13is genuine.
38:14But that's not even
38:15the spookiest part.
38:16In relation to the items
38:17in the photo,
38:18the figure would be
38:199 feet tall.
38:21Number 8.
38:22Goddard's Squadron Ghost,
38:24also known as
38:25the Ghost of Freddie Jackson.
38:27If you're a connoisseur
38:27of ghost photos,
38:29this is your holy grail.
38:31Freddie Jackson
38:31was reportedly
38:32an air mechanic
38:33who was accidentally killed
38:35by an airplane propeller.
38:36Two days after the accident,
38:38the squadron of Sir Victor Goddard
38:39took a photo together
38:41without Freddie.
38:42But sure enough,
38:43Freddie turned up
38:43when the photo was developed.
38:45In the back row
38:46on the left side,
38:47the face of the dead mechanic,
38:49not wearing a hat,
38:50appears behind
38:51one of the soldiers' heads.
38:53Believers insist
38:54that this photo
38:55is evidence
38:55of the presence of spirits
38:56in our physical world,
38:58especially considering
38:59it was produced in 1919,
39:01many years before
39:02modern photo tampering software
39:04could have rendered
39:04such a believable fake.

39:13Many photos
39:13and videos
39:14of the assassination
39:15capture the lady
39:16in close proximity
39:17to the attack,
39:18including one
39:19taken moments
39:20after the shooting.
39:21Curiously,
39:22she doesn't duck
39:23or flee
39:23when it occurs.
39:25Instead,
39:25she's shown filming
39:26from a valuable point
39:28that would have provided
39:29priceless footage,
39:30which is why
39:31everyone tried
39:32to find her.
39:33Despite numerous claims
39:34by individuals,
39:35the Babushka Lady's
39:36identity
39:36has never been confirmed.
39:38The mystery
39:39surrounding her identity,
39:41attire,
39:41and actions
39:42puts her in the center
39:43of the conspiracy,
39:45with some thinking
39:45she might have had a role
39:47in the assassination itself.

39:50The Black Knight Satellite
39:51This photo,
39:52released by NASA
39:53in 1998,
39:55shows a large,
39:56irregularly shaped object
39:57orbiting the Earth.
39:59Conspiracy theorists
40:00believe this is
40:01an alien satellite
40:02that's been surveying
40:03our planet
40:03for 13,000 years.
40:06Their evidence
40:06runs all the way
40:07back to Nikola Tesla's
40:081899 radio experiment,
40:10in which extraterrestrial
40:12sounds were recorded,
40:13and the supposed satellite
40:15has been the supposed
40:16culprit for nearly
40:17every unexplainable
40:18radio signal
40:19in the years since.
40:20Space journalist
40:21and former NASA engineer
40:23James Oberg
40:23offers a much more
40:25reasonable explanation.
40:26It's a thermal blanket
40:27confirmed lost
40:29on one of the space missions,
40:30or some other type of debris,
40:32but this has yet to be proven.

41:06main staircase.
41:06It was spontaneously taken
41:08after Shira noticed
41:09a misty form
41:11on the stairs.

41:21This famous photograph
41:22shows an elderly woman
41:24sitting on a chair
41:24and posing for the camera.
41:26Standing directly behind her
41:28is an elderly man.
41:29The story goes
41:30that the woman
41:30had been suffering
41:31from dementia
41:32and had been speaking
41:33out loud
41:34to her long-deceased husband.
41:35The woman's daughter
41:37took a photo
41:37of her mother
41:38and upon development
41:39saw the ghostly image
41:41of her deceased father.
41:42She also uploaded
41:43a black and white photo
41:44of her mother and father
41:45from their younger years
41:47and the man in question
41:48shares an eerie resemblance
41:50to the one seen
41:50in the ghost photo.

41:53The Tulip Staircase Ghost
41:54In 1966,
41:56a former clergyman
41:57from White Rock,
41:58British Columbia
41:59paid a visit
42:00to the Queen's House
42:01in the National Maritime Museum
42:02in Greenwich, England.
42:03Believing he was alone,
42:05he took a photo
42:06of the historic
42:07Tulip Staircase.
42:08But after development
42:10of said photo,
42:11a mysterious figure
42:12is seen.
42:13An unmistakable entity,
42:15shrouded and despaired,
42:16looks like it's
42:17holding onto the railing
42:18and trying to climb
42:20the staircase.
42:21This section of the museum
42:22has long been rumored
42:23to be haunted,
42:24with strange paranormal phenomena
42:26having been reported
42:27in prior years.
42:28The photo was reportedly
42:30submitted for examination
42:31and the findings stated
42:33that no alterations
42:34had been made.

42:37The McMinnville UFO Photos
42:38They're among the most
42:39iconic UFO photos
42:41ever taken.
42:42In 1950,
42:44Paul and Evelyn Trent
42:45noticed a mysterious object
42:46hovering over their farm
42:47in McMinnville, Oregon.
42:49Paul was able to snap
42:50several photos
42:51before it zipped off.
42:52The photos caused
42:53quite a stir,
42:54appearing in Life magazine
42:56and newspapers,
42:57and igniting a debate
42:58that's never really ended.
43:00Various explanations
43:01have been suggested.
43:03Physicist Bruce McAbee
43:04argues that the UFO
43:05was a, quote,
43:06real physical object.
43:08Skeptics are nonetheless
43:10convinced they were faked.
43:12The truth may be out there,
43:14but for now,
43:14it remains a mystery.
43:16No, and they've taken
43:17another look at it
43:18as recently as 1999,
43:20and the government
43:21is still unable
43:22to debunk it.

43:39The Tank Man
43:40One of the most famous
43:42photographs in human history
43:43depicts an unknown man
43:45standing in front
43:46of a column of tanks
43:47in China's Tiananmen Square.
43:49Taken in June of 1989,
43:51the photo remains
43:52censored in China,
43:53as is all mention
43:54of the Tiananmen Square massacre,
43:56in which hundreds
43:57to thousands
43:58of civilians were killed.
44:00Despite being
44:00an iconic photograph,
44:02the fate and identity
44:03of the Tank Man
44:04remains unknown.
44:05And I looked
44:06and I said,
44:06this guy's crazy.
44:07Some people believe
44:08he was taken
44:09and executed
44:09by the Chinese Communist Party.
44:11Others believe
44:12he escaped to Taiwan
44:13and became an archaeologist.
44:15Yet others believe
44:16that he was never in danger
44:17and continued to live
44:19a normal life
44:19on the Chinese mainland.
44:21It remains
44:21a tantalizing,
44:23fascinating mystery.
44:24It really wasn't
44:25until years later
44:26that I realized
44:27what I had,
44:28which is an iconic photo.
