00:17to have you today obviously because uh for one reason that i'm personally very inspired by you

00:24and second is because i want to change the notion that you know people normally have about you know

00:32film uh people who come from filmy background i don't want people to see you because of your family

00:37legacy you know i want people to really get to know you i don't want to see you as you know

00:42shikha kapoor's daughter krishnamooti's daughter i want them to see you as kaveri kapoor

00:47and because like we've spoken so far however much we've spoken i feel that people should see that

00:55side of you so i'm really glad that i'm going to be talking about so much exciting stuff so should we

01:01begin from the beginning yes yes okay cool so how was it growing up in a house where you know like

01:08your father is such a well-known figure your mother is so well-known how was it how's that like

01:14i mean it had it it had its advantages and its disadvantages um the part that i'm really

01:22grateful for is one that i was exposed to so much art and creativity as an artist and i think that

01:31really influenced the path i've chosen in life and also because they already have a platform it was

01:37easier for me to have a platform it was easier for me to get where i am and to go where i'll hopefully go

01:48um but of course it had its disadvantages um my parents had a very public divorce and i was really

01:58young and there was a lot that i would find out you know through the news and you were reading news at

02:05that point yeah i mean by the time i was that age we had phones and we had access to the internet so

02:12even if you want to protect your children from these things correct um they can still go and find it

02:19if they want and then you know if if your child is not given access to it they're friends at school who

02:25have access to it and today it's even easier because with social media and stuff nothing is really

02:33private but yeah i would say that was the main disadvantage but overall i'm really grateful

02:39because i get to do what i love and i got to discover what i loved really early yeah um your music

02:48career basically my music career and even when i discovered that i had um a passion for acting i had

02:56i had the privilege to explore it the way that i wanted to and i've been lucky enough to get

03:02opportunities yeah overall i'm really grateful for it blessed yeah yeah so talking about your music

03:09career what really sort of like you know astonishes me for the lack of a better word and actually

03:17like sort of like makes me wonder also how could 11 year old girl compose her own song write

03:26her own lyrics and sing that song make it public and sound so beautiful like how did that happen

03:37i think songwriting because i grew up in such a creative household and because i was always around

03:45musicians um and i was always around people that were creating the way that children will go out to

03:53play or do sports creativity was second nature to me so it was just something that i was encouraged to

04:01explore really early on um and yeah i landed on songwriting and i i i really liked it and then my parents helped me develop it and

04:16yeah so i think i think it's just mostly because creativity was encouraged so much when i was a child

04:24um i learned it the way kids are taught math and reading i mean that was what i grew up around that was

04:32what my i saw my parents do most okay so it came i mean the urge to explore it came very easily okay i

04:42wouldn't say like yeah being a songwriter or a singer or an actor came very easily to me but the desire to go down

04:50that path didn't feel alien okay very well said actually uh so your mother i've seen her youtube

04:59channel as well and um she's around a lot of musicians and like you mentioned earlier while you were talking

05:05off camera she herself loves to sing and everything of course the world knows her as an actor you know

05:11i've seen her in kavi na kavi na um so how has her influenced pain in your life as far as your music

05:19trajectory is concerned um well she was the one who put me into music lessons um and piano lessons and

05:30she was always singing when i was growing up so that definitely influenced me um my dad is not a singer

05:37um but he very probably posts on twitter and everything yeah he's a very proud that oh my

05:44daughter has written this sorry lovely to see his post because i haven't followed sorry not twitter

05:49it's called x now right so sorry yeah anyway on social media yeah elon musk might just get offended but

05:57okay i don't think he's gonna see it so yeah um so he seems to be a very proud father so when

06:04you were already doing like your songwriting and everything you knew that you know you went to

06:11berkeley also which is like the mecca for all musicians i believe so you got into that which

06:18i'm sure must have been like a very proud moment for your parents again how did acting come to you

06:23um i actually grew up really really shy so i never thought that i would ever be an actor in fact when i

06:31did drama in school because my parents really pushed me to explore that but i was mortified like i had so

06:39much stage fright um and i was just so shy and so like i was i just had so many insecurities about

06:50performing that i never thought i would go down that route but then as i got older and i started to

06:55come into my own more um and you know i started doing music videos and i realized i enjoy being on

07:03camera and i enjoy expressing myself in that way um and then i thought maybe it's something that i could

07:13explore and then i got the opportunity to audition for bobby or rishi ki love story and i really i had so

07:20much fun even during the audition process it was a little bit scary but i mostly really enjoyed it

07:26and it made me realize that i have like a real passion for acting yeah and then on set as well i

07:33just really i really enjoyed it and i felt like this is something that if i if i develop it i could be

07:40really good at it one day and and most importantly i felt really passionate about it and i felt like this

07:47is part of my calling yeah so yeah i figured it out kind of later than a lot of kids do yeah but i

07:56i realized i wanted to be an actor through the experience of acting okay so before we delve into

08:05your uh debut film uh bobby and rishi ki love story i just want to like uh just understand because both

08:12your parents are are a part of the you know hindi cinema universe and everything were any tips given

08:18to you before you entered the set on the first day or throughout the filming process um yeah my dad

08:27my dad has always said act to act is to be or acting is being so that's kind of

08:35the philosophy i followed wow when i first started acting was it was to be um and i've also learned this

08:47through different like courses that i've done i just did um a course an acting course in ireland and um

08:56um yeah just i think he really emphasized that um the point of acting is to be as human as possible

09:10and so i would i would go into every acting experience thinking like okay like i'm trying to not

09:20what might like trying to not imagine that i'm a character but a real human being in this situation

09:27and having my reactions and my experience be like as authentic as possible yeah um

09:36so that was the advice given to me in terms of acting but i remember um before we started shooting my

09:44skin was really bad okay um it was like i was really breaking out i had pcos so i really struggled with

09:53okay high five

09:56girl code i struggled with i was struggling with my skin my hair was thinning i struggled with my weight as

10:05well but i remember like i was talking to my mom before going on set and she really at that time

10:12helped me feel more confident in my skin and helped me focus on what was important in that moment which

10:20was my performance and the rest could be dealt with later so that i mean you can always put makeup on

10:27right yeah like i mean i i've i've come i think at least if i'm not wrong the data it's like at least

10:35four out of ten women have pcos yeah and they deal with the same issue and uh it is something that we

10:43don't talk about more often but it is what it is it's something that you have to live with right yeah

10:50and i'm sure there must have been like hurdles your way where you must have felt that oh my god like

10:56this is really coming in my way and i mean yeah like i had moments on set where um i could hear

11:04like the other the extras on set and i could hear them speaking they'd be like oh she's so pretty but

11:10her skin is so bad oh yeah so it was that bad i really had to like put on like blindfolds and just

11:18act like uh did you let that affect you in any way yeah of course i mean even if you don't want it

11:24to affect you i was also only 21 when we shot i just turned 21 it was my first time acting my first

11:33time really being on camera also the role that i was playing you know she's a pretty girl she so of

11:39course it affected yeah london-based club rom-com yeah and it would it would still affect me of course

11:45you're human yeah people like zone in on your appearance and stuff like that but i've learned to

11:52deal with it and like focus on the parts of myself that i can control but you know what i'll tell you

11:57something your director uh for the film Kunal Kohli national award-winning director he has an eye for

12:05good actors and trust me like he's made some legendary movies and he cast you and of course the film did

12:14great it got good reviews it was on hot star and everything and uh i think it was this february right

12:21it got released yeah so i mean there was arm answer involved what could have gone wrong possibly

12:30nothing right so i'm just like just want to like appreciate you for being so authentic about these

12:38things you know because normally you know actors are not themselves because obviously like there comes

12:43a lot of scrutiny because whenever they open their mouths there's somebody trolling them doing saying

12:48things but the fact that you felt comfortable sharing this here means a lot to me personally yeah um i

12:57also think like we also have to on some level of course but as public figures you also have a responsibility

13:06yeah like to create a culture that you want to exist in and that benefits people and helps people

13:20because we do have a lot of influence on the general public as actors as artists but i think like we also

13:29have to create an environment especially because a lot of actors start off really young yeah it's really easy to

13:35criticize people for maybe not being as authentic or like projecting a certain image of themselves but i think that

13:49we also have to create an environment where it's okay to do that and it's encouraged to do that yeah of course

13:57course because i can understand why a lot of a lot of people who do what i do wouldn't want to be so open about this yeah because with vulnerability

14:14also comes you know um the willingness to accept whatever sort of review comes your way when you

14:22become wonderful basically you're opening up right yeah so you have to accept what the other person has

14:28to say because it's your choice to be open about it right it's not always easy because these things

14:32that people open up about often like for me it's an open mood you know so it's hard to talk about and

14:39it's hard to accept that people are going to say what what they want to say also like i think

14:46like as an actor you're told that you're you're an image or you're a brand or that you're supposed to

14:58project that kind of perfection whether it's on screen or just as a public figure in general i think

15:05that makes it kind of more difficult to talk about anything yeah of course not just like when you look at

15:13the big picture like talking about acne is a really small thing but um it can be difficult to talk

15:19about because it makes you feel really wonderful talking about hair thinning is not something i don't

15:25think any most of the actors would be comfortable about yeah because it's it's it's just a difficult

15:30thing yeah because we've said that you know like because we put the actors as Indian audience i'm saying

15:36or as a global audience also you know we put actors on such great pedestals that they themselves feel

15:41so pressurized that you know you have to be picture perfect there is a certain standard of beauty

15:46that needs to be followed yeah so there's a lot of pressure i can understand that completely but um

15:51let's talk about the creative part of the film okay now you had written a song at the age of 15

15:57which you sang for this movie i believe it was in you wrote it in english yeah and you had great

16:03people working with you on that song prasoon joshi wrote the lyrics in hindi for you and of course

16:09arman composed the music period so how was that process like like how was it working with such

16:14legendary people and of course kunal koly's himself is so like musically inclined yeah

16:19his music is yeah like really good so what was that like it was really fun because i got to be part of

16:27that process in the film as well and when i wrote the song i never expected that i would be able to

16:32like showcase both of my passions at the same time yeah um yeah it was a really it was a really fun

16:44process and um we played the song to kanal and he was like okay it fits the story and it fits the mood

16:53of the film and so we got it translated and i recorded like six or seven times oh right okay

17:01yeah ram and uncle really wanted to get it right and you wanted to get it perfect yeah mr perfectionist

17:09um and also like he wanted to extract my potential because um i tend to get

17:18nervous when i think and i knew what the song was for so i got even more nervous so we had to do a

17:25couple of um we had to get into the studio a couple of times still yeah to to get me to a point where

17:36i was comfortable enough to do my best okay and the song turned out to be really good by the way yeah so

17:41we're gonna stick to this film for a short while now uh now tell me we've we all watched the movie

17:47it's out there for public to see now tell me some of the fun bts i want to know that so when we first

17:55started doing um rehearsals um i would fight with valdan a lot why because i was in college at this time i

18:08was in boston and he was in mumbai and every time we would rehearse it would be like 2 a.m for me

18:17and it would be daytime for him so by the time we got to rehearsing i would be so cranky at night

18:24because i'd spend all day either like doing like finals or doing homework or being in class or whatever

18:31um and then by the time we got to rehearsing it was like two in the morning because he was also working

18:39at other times and that was the only time we could schedule and so i would just be in a really bad

18:44mood and fight with him a lot and i've also like i remember at one point i would we we started doing

18:51rehearsals and i started crying i was like it's three in the morning can we like schedule a different time

18:56yeah but yeah we actually before before we got on set before i fought with him a lot oh he was not he was

19:04not he was a sweetheart to you yeah okay lovely valdan if you're watching it she said that on

19:10camera the news is that you're going to be working with your father in the next film masu which is

19:18going to be i think uh which was like a cult classic and it's going to be remade i think it's a remake

19:24right masu the next generation kind of and like what after what 40 years four decades after four

19:31decades it's being made and it's very difficult i'm sure to step in the shoes of the actors that have

19:37already worked on that film because it's a cult classic right nasiruddin shah was there the ashwana

19:43has mean everybody loved that film so tell me about your father shaker kapusa how is it with him

19:54like your camaraderie with him when it comes to acting him as a director and you as an actor to him

19:59it's it's a very comfortable environment um and i think he has his way of bringing out the best in actors

20:10um even past what they thought they were capable of yeah um and there's a lot of freedom to like

20:18explore and really go deep into your character and he'll like he'll he'll push you to do that you

20:31know he'll encourage that and also because i'm working with um such like veteran actors it is a bit

20:40intimidating i'm not gonna lie but it's mostly really inspiring no and i can you and i get to i'm

20:46excited to see what i'll get to learn yeah um but is he the chill dad like yes at work was also like

20:55yeah he's very chill he's very chill yeah okay so like what kind of i mean if anything i'm the bully

21:03talking about after masoon what's next for you have you signed up any other projects or are you more

21:11inclined towards singing i i definitely want to do both both yeah 100 um i'm equally passionate about

21:24music and acting it just depends on what like kind of phase of life i'm in so i hope i get to explore

21:30both but have you signed any other project yeah and can i get some details about that at least

21:38honestly i really want to but i really have this terrible have to tell me i just tell me what

21:44production house it is at least that much i'm getting no from being i'm getting asked shut my mouth no

21:55i'm sorry but you have signed a film yeah yeah okay um there's one more question that has stayed in my

22:02mind for a very long time i don't know if it's appropriate enough to ask you ask um here it's

22:10actually not a very like a fun kind of question and nothing related to you personally but uh see

22:15you told me that your father has you know the kind of ability to bring out the best in actors and i

22:23still remember when one of our very talented actors passed away and your father had great regards for

22:31that actor very young actor who passed away in over 2020 and he was supposed to shoot a film with him

22:41and we could see it you know the way he was speaking about him

22:45how deeply grieved like how he was grieving your father was grieving so did he like speak about

22:53it at home as well i mean obviously when you're close to someone they pass away it's a very sad thing

23:00so it affected him a lot yeah they were friends so that's natural someone close to you

23:09passes away yeah and he also said that if that film which he was supposed to make with him

23:14ever gets made it is going to be dedicated to him yeah yeah yeah so like your dad like still talks about it

23:28um i know i know he was deeply affected by it and the film and the character

23:39were deeply personal to him so yeah it comes up comes up here and there yeah very personal question to ask you

23:51okay now with your mom uh her being a great actor in her life and uh obviously like it's public news that

24:03your mom and dad are separated on a real thing i got to know that you set up a profile for her on a dating

24:13app spill the beans now this you can't escape from i mean yeah i just wanted her to be happy everyone

24:21deserves love yeah i wanted her to have fun i was going away to college i wanted her to date yeah it was

24:29quite simple and what happened after that what ensued she didn't date she did not yeah she did she did

24:35not go out also i don't think so no from what i remember or maybe there was like one date but from

24:41what i remember i didn't go yeah so but what made you like do that like just like well i was going away

24:49to college um and i knew she was gonna be living alone i didn't want her to yeah be lonely and on top of

24:57side like i just just wanted to get out there a little bit like have fun but i love how unconventional

25:03your relationship with your mother is yeah because normally in indian households a lot of girls don't

25:10have the freedom to even speak about a guy yeah you know and you taking up that role for your mother

25:17commendable whether or not she dated that's secondary but that was really good that was really nice to know

25:24yeah i mean we've always i've always spoken to her openly about boys yeah and about most things yeah

25:33and even with my dad like i wanted him to date as well really yeah tell us that story that i don't

25:39know about like after a certain age of course until i when i was like a little kid i was quite protective

25:46but after a while you just want your parents to be happy and then to have love in their lives and

25:51okay that's great to know actually now tell us one thing uh about each of your parents and about

25:59yourself okay i want to know uh that people would probably not know that's not in the in the public eye

26:09um my my dad is a teddy bear he cries all the time what are you trying to say that sheker

26:16who tries tries all the time yeah he cries all the time i think he's like super intimidating

26:22he's actually like an emotional teddy bear really yeah what about your mom she has to travel she has

26:29travel yeah do you like to travel yeah but it stresses me out really yeah i like to like i really have to

26:37prepare myself my mom is like she loves adventure she's very adventurous she's been like all over the

26:45if you had to like give one advice to girls who are like struggling with pcos who have body image

26:51issues because of it or would just generally have like very painful experience with the disorder what

26:58would you say to them i don't know i don't know if i'm really in a place to sit down and give someone

27:06clear advice on it because i haven't like recovered from it yet i haven't really healed from it yet even

27:11mentally it can be very tough but i would say like if you're dealing with weight gain or acne or whatever

27:23the physical side effects what has helped me is to try and find things in my life that don't have

27:33anything to do with the way i love okay things that bring me joy that have nothing to do with my weight

27:43or my appearance in general because my weight is something i really struggled with with pcos

27:50and it can really it can really mess with you because the messaging you get from society especially

27:56as a girl is that it's one of the most important things about you you know especially as an actor

28:03yeah that's what i was coming to yeah so what's helped me is to find things outside of that even

28:11if that means stepping out of my role as an actor sometimes um music helps a lot because

28:22there's less of a focus on it obviously it's less of a visual medium yeah but yeah i would just say

28:29like find find things that um divert your attention maybe or find find things in life that don't place

28:40emphasis on the way you look or don't define you by how you look which honestly today

28:47the mystery age can be quite difficult but anyways uh moving forward uh i have a very fun game for you

28:55okay so i'm gonna take my phone and it's called guess what it's called rapid fire yes

29:04yes rapid fire wow you're so smart you told me did that you didn't shut up you're not supposed to say that

29:18it's okay it's okay it's okay it's okay okay now okay

29:23dr krishnamurti wrote a book about you what would it be titled oh my god think from our perspective

29:31something about how i need to like calm down yeah yeah yeah yeah calm down baby

29:40the book would be titled calm down baby yeah would you rather be directed by your dad or act opposite

29:47shara khan well both personally be directed by my dad which you which is already happening yeah maybe

29:54um my answers are a little bit biased but okay if i didn't have to choose i would say both okay okay

30:01cool fair enough one bollywood actor that you'd never want to be stuck in a vanity van with

30:08and why honestly i don't know everyone i met has been quite nice yeah people have been nice to you

30:13yeah in the industry who's been the nicest tell me that um i recently um ran into

30:29abhishek bachchan he was very kind to me oh that's sweet yeah i ran into him at a reward show

30:34and he was talking to me about how to be confident in the position that i'm in and

30:44um yeah like feel at home in what i'm doing so that was really really kind yeah it was also random

30:52like he just yeah it wasn't like i didn't ask him he just felt the need to say to me i thought

30:58it was really really nice so he was very wrong to you yeah he was very kind okay okay very nice

31:03actually yeah let's not meet bichino i mean i mean kindness never goes out of fashion i agree yeah

31:11i completely agree so for example hypothetically if your debut had flopped or had not done well for

31:19the lack of a better term what would you be doing today instead apart from singing i would still be

31:25acting you would still be acting yeah so it wouldn't have affected you it would have obviously

31:31affected me and my career but i don't i think i don't think i would have quit acting okay one because

31:39i love it two yeah i think i've accepted failures as a part of the process not just as an actor but

31:48as an artist and as a human what quality you definitely did not inherit from your parents

31:58um my mom is quite um bold like she'll say what's on her mind regardless i think i'm more diplomatic okay

32:09um i'm very similar to my dad so that's tough so you're saying that you're also cry baby like him i

32:18was just gonna say i'm not as much of a cry baby no actually that's not true i very much am so i don't

32:24yeah very beautifully said okay um if you could swap lives with anybody in this world who would it be

32:34and what's the first thing you would do one of my puppies they have yeah how many do you have two

32:45they're not actually puppies they're like three yeah what breed shih tzus but they just have the best

32:53lives they wake up they get belly rubs they eat they go for walks like i want to live that life

33:00no that's the perfect life yeah yeah yeah if your love life were a bollywood film what would it be

33:07called bobby or ishi ki love story bobby or ishi ki love story see you pitching a film here everybody

33:14is still available on hotstar so you can go and watch it one co-star you would say yes to even without

33:21reading a script any actor any actor any actor yeah that you would love to start with in a film

33:31there's so many but still one favorite na ki chalu iske saad to kaam pedhle hai

33:38alia bhat yeah okay you love alia bhat she's very talented of course okay um the last time your dad

33:46gave you unsolicited advice and you totally ignored it huh probably this morning this morning yeah and

33:51what was it i mean from my parents a lot of advice is unsolicited okay i think he was like telling me

33:59to to wake up earlier okay and then the other day i was sick and he was trying to get me to go see a

34:05doctor just being a dad yeah come on being protect protective okay uh three things no one knows about

34:14the real kaaviri see that's a very tough question because i'm i feel like i will talk about myself so openly

34:27so i don't really know if there's something

34:32um i wanted to be a geologist as a kid okay that's interesting yeah that's one

34:44i used to like be a bully like as a kid like i would beat people up what are you saying

34:52you would beat people up yeah it's cool yeah like i was

34:57yeah like i would i would genuinely beat people i wasn't strong enough to do any harm yeah and the

35:04first thing i would do when i met someone is i'd be like panja like i want to arm wrestle oh yeah i was

35:11so you were that kid yeah i was definitely that kid i used to be really into drawing drawing

35:18art yeah artistically very inclined yeah yeah um i love poetry poetry i love writing poetry

35:27i don't read a lot of poetry okay done um an actor or actress whose career arc you secretly want to have

35:35you want to have that kind of success and career yeah okay fair enough if your mom and dad had to play

35:47your on-screen parents what genre would that be drama thrill

35:54kawiri why are you doing

35:58did you just say horror

35:59i'm just kidding sorry finish the question finish the question okay what genre would it be

36:12i have three options drama thriller or full chaos

36:17full chaos okay horror okay never gonna forget that one

36:23if you had to give up acting or music forever which one would hurt more acting acting would hurt more

36:31no no sorry music music would hurt more yeah yeah you can't give up music no music has been such a

36:37part of my identities like growing up especially as a songwriter so that would be very difficult okay

36:44okay um a director you dream of working with but also are a little intimidated by part from your father

36:52any other director in the industry you want to be his muse yeah and we're 18 kgs and 20 kgs of lehengas

37:04and dance and i would also be intimidated you would also be intimidated of course have you ever googled

37:11yourself and what came up that made you laugh or cringe come on this you have to tell me oh my god so

37:17many things what one for example so if you i'm probably going to get into this the images that

37:25come up of me they're mortifying like because a lot of them are from when i was like younger and a

37:32teenager like pictures of me like and i just like not knowing i was being photographed they're actually

37:40like it's very funny and you know the same like i give you full permission to google it and laugh it

37:46no i'm not gonna laugh at it but you know one thing right that if anything ever goes up on the internet
