Jorge Polanco se encargó de enviar a Seattle Mariners a la Serie de Campeonato de la Liga Americana, después de 24 años de ausencia, luego de dar el batazo de oro en la baja del 15° inning para derrotar por 3-2 a Tigres de Detroit.

Es la cuarta ocasión en que Seattle avanza a esta instancia en la que nunca ha podido llegar a la Serie Mundial. En 1995 fueron vencidos por Cleveland, mientras que en 2000 y 2001, Yankees de Nueva York fueron sus verdugos.
