01:50Piper?
01:57That's it
01:58You must be Tate.
01:59Thanks for meeting me at the service entrance.
02:02The agency filled you in, yes?
02:05You need to be at the top of your game tonight.
02:07My mother will be watching me like a hawk.
02:10Hopefully, with you there, she won't be trying to set me up with anyone.
02:12Of course, Mr. Young.
02:14You can trust me. I'm a professional.
02:16Well, I mean, you're an escort.
02:18It doesn't exactly require an MBA.
02:21And hiring an escort doesn't exactly require more than a dick and a credit card.
02:25Really, just a credit card.
02:28That's funny. I thought I paid for a date, not an attitude.
02:32Two for the price to one. Lucky you.
02:44So, what's the story of how we met?
02:47You said you're a professional, right? Make something up.
02:51If we want to pull this off, we're going to have to have a story.
02:54You said yourself that your mother's going to be watching.
02:57Unless you want me to tell her the truth.
03:02Look, I realize that some of your other clients may find those kinds of jokes charming.
03:06But I need you to take this seriously, okay?
03:09My reputation's at stake here.
03:12You know, on my way over here, I was wondering,
03:14why does Tate Young, the most eligible bachelor in the city, need an escort?
03:18And I'm starting to understand why.
03:22Tate! You came!
03:24It's your rehearsal dinner. What'd you expect?
03:27Well, you always seem to find some excuse.
03:31And you are?
03:36It's nice to meet you, Ariana. I'm Piper.
03:38So, how did you two meet?
03:43Don't worry, babe. I'll tell her.
03:46I hosted a local artist charity auction last month,
03:49and the Young Family Foundation bid on a painting for their lobby.
03:52I supervised the installation, and Tate was there.
03:55The rest is history.
03:58Wow.
03:59Tate never usually spends time at the foundation.
04:02It was our father's passion project,
04:04but Tate tends to get his priorities mixed up.
04:06Oh.
04:08Mom's looking for you.
04:09I told her you were over here, so good luck.
04:11Mmm.
04:13I'm gonna go make out with Dave.
04:20You know, I gotta say,
04:21it's a little scary how good of a liar you are.
04:24Oh, Tate.
04:25We have got to work on your trust issues.
04:27That whole story was true.
04:30Aside from meeting you, of course.
04:32Well, you're about to see where I got those trust issues from.
04:37Hello.
04:38I don't believe you're on our guest list.
04:41Mom, come on.
04:42Is that anyone who treat my date?
04:45It's lovely to meet you, Mrs. Young.
04:47I was just telling your daughter that you bid on a painting
04:51at a local art auction I held last month.
04:53You hosted that?
04:54That painting spoke to me immediately.
04:57And I was especially intrigued with how the artist signed it.
05:01No name, just for Elizabeth.
05:04A dedication to the artist's mother.
05:06Must be nice for a mother to feel appreciated.
05:09I tried to find the artist, but if that artist appreciates their anonymity.
05:17Oh.
05:18And how about you, dear?
05:19Do you appreciate your anonymity as well?
05:23I'm an open book.
05:25Ask me anything.
05:26Oh.
05:26Where did you grow up?
05:28New York.
05:30Did you attend college?
05:31Princeton.
05:33College and graduate school for my MFA.
05:35Whoa.
05:37Poor dear.
05:37You must be drowning in student debt.
05:40Actually, my family didn't have to take out any loans, thank goodness.
05:43Oh.
05:44So you're comfortable.
05:45My mother was at the top of her field, so yes, we were comfortable.
05:50I see.
05:51We'll all have to have lunch together.
05:53Um, my mother is unfortunately no longer with us.
05:57All right, okay.
06:00Enough with the third degree.
06:02I think Piper deserves a breather.
06:04I'll give her a tour of the house.
06:07Nice meeting you.
06:09You too.
06:18Okay, so we've established that you're an enormous dork, which is probably why you have
06:24a hard time with the ladies.
06:25I prefer to focus on my work.
06:29Hmm.
06:30You know they have support groups for that kind of thing.
06:32Stop.
06:33You sound like my mother.
06:34She's been going to extremes to try to get me to settle down.
06:38Oh.
06:39What kind of extremes?
06:40Trying to get me back together with my ex.
06:43Speaking of trouble.
06:45Tate, baby.
06:46I missed you.
06:47Delaney?
06:48This is...
06:49Piper.
06:50His girlfriend.
06:52Delaney Hughes.
06:53His first love.
06:56Is that right?
06:57See, you're still trying to replace me, huh?
06:59What app did you find this one on?
07:01Piper is in the arts.
07:03That's where we met.
07:05And Delaney here is a lawyer at the firm.
07:07T, that's not all I am.
07:08And you know it.
07:09We dated all throughout high school and college.
07:12And then we broke up.
07:13Hmm?
07:14Delaney, why are you here?
07:15Oh, don't be like that.
07:17You know Josie and I have always been close.
07:19Why, I'm practically family.
07:21And who knows?
07:22Maybe someday I will be.
07:23Delaney, what are you doing here?
07:25Thank God I came, right?
07:27I mean, it doesn't look like there was much of a turnout.
07:30We kept the guest list intimate.
07:32We didn't want anything to...
07:33Expensive?
07:34I mean, this family is worth millions.
07:36I am sad that they couldn't bring you a decent wedding.
07:38If your father were alive to see his daughter...
07:40Delaney!
07:41You're drunk.
07:44I'll call you a car.
07:46Don't be silly.
07:48Go, Delaney.
07:49I didn't invite you here.
07:50Your mother did.
07:51Well, it's not her wedding, is it?
07:53Car's five minutes away.
07:55Feel free to wait outside.
07:57You should learn to stay out of my business.
08:00Otherwise, I might start sniffing around yours.
08:09I hope this isn't too forward.
08:11But can we be best friends already?
08:14Not too forward at all.
08:15Sorry about Delaney.
08:16It's okay.
08:17Or it will be.
08:18As long as you keep this girl around.
08:26I'm at what I said earlier.
08:27If we're going to get through tonight, we have to get to know one another.
08:30Your family's not going to stop crying.
08:35Okay, fine.
08:35I graduated from Columbia, summa cum laude.
08:40Interned at Goldman Sachs.
08:42Became the youngest CEO in the firm's history.
08:45Made the Forbes 30 under 30 list.
08:47And now, I'm expected to carry on a tradition of excellence.
08:52Success is boring to you?
08:59I can find all that stuff on Google.
09:02I want to know who you really are.
09:03Okay, um, I'm good at billiards.
09:08Oh, God.
09:09Just call it pool, like a normal person.
09:12A poser for swimming.
09:13Wow.
09:14Having a life of privilege really did a number on you, huh?
09:18Privilege is subjective.
09:20Well, money's not.
09:22And that makes all of the other problems a whole lot easier.
09:26Oh.
09:28What's this?
09:29Absolutely not.
09:31It does not say no escorts.
09:37Oh.
09:38Oh.
09:44A.B. Honor roll.
09:47So you're a huge nerd.
09:48Briefly.
09:51I loved space, anyway.
09:53What the hell happened?
09:55What do you mean?
09:56Based on my research, I couldn't find a single photo where you actually looked happy.
10:01And that Forbes 30 under 30 profile.
10:04It was thoughtful.
10:06Introspective.
10:08Mildly suicidal.
10:10Definitely depressing.
10:14Fine.
10:15There was this space camp that I begged my parents to attend.
10:20Finally, they agreed the summer before I went to high school.
10:24But, uh, while I was gone, my, uh, my father passed away.
10:31I'm so sorry for your loss.
10:34After that, I guess I stopped looking up at the stars.
10:39That's where he was, you know?
10:40I said it down here with us.
10:43I said it down here with us.
11:00Are you okay?
11:01I should, uh, get back to the party before my mother comes looking.
11:12So you're coming to the wedding tomorrow, right?
11:14I don't work multi-day jobs.
11:17Plus, I don't think I should.
11:19Your family is way too involved.
11:21It's too complicated.
11:23I thought you said you were a professional.
11:24You'll have to make up an excuse.
11:29Or give them my apologies.
11:32I'm sorry, Tate.
11:33Really.
11:36I'll double your rate.
11:39And I'll do whatever you say.
11:42Open up as much as necessary.
11:44You don't want to keep lying near your family, Tate.
11:47I mean, what's your big plan here?
11:49You know, for once, I'm not trying to strategize ten steps ahead.
11:53I know what I want right now.
11:57I'll talk to the agency.
12:00See if they can make arrangements.
12:06Thank you, Piper.
12:09Don't thank me yet.
12:11Look, I'd better go.
12:13I'll talk to the agency.
12:43Whenever you're away, I'll miss you.
12:58Yeah.
12:59The next two nights?
13:00Is Renee available?
13:03She's just so good with all the medications.
13:07Oh, good.
13:09Please tell me that I'll have my room ready for her.
13:13I'll be right back.
13:26So tell me
13:28what you need.
13:31Cause I
13:32can't take it
13:35the way this
13:37is changing me.
13:39Oh, I am waiting, so tell me what you need
13:50Cause I can't take it, the way this is changing
13:59Oh, I am waiting, so tell me what you need
14:08Cause I can't take it, the way this is changing
14:17Oh, I am waiting, so tell me what you need
14:34Shit
14:41Fuck
14:43Fuck
14:53Text date, I can't make it to the wedding today, I'm sorry, I'll return your money now
14:59Send
15:00Not an option, contract is signed with the agency, see you at 11am
15:12Fuck
15:13Oh
15:15Hello
15:19Hello
15:23There you are, sorry I couldn't hear the gate
15:28It was open, but I'm here and having a colossally bad hair day
15:34Okay, well you can't wear a hat to the wedding, it can't be that bad, let me see it
15:41It's that bad, no one can see
15:43Show me
15:44I'm sorry, uh, wow
15:58What are you doing?
16:01Just trust me, okay?
16:02I grew up with a sister
16:04So how did this happen anyway?
16:07I fell asleep painting, which I haven't done since I was a kid
16:13I'm surprised you had the energy to paint after everything yesterday
16:17I was inspired
16:19I know what you mean
16:25You know we have staff for that sort of thing
16:30Yes, and I've seen children set up a tea party neater than this
16:34You're in a good mood
16:37It's a good day
16:39It's Piper, isn't it?
16:42I was skeptical
16:44But I see how happy she makes you
16:47Mom, please don't make a big deal out of this, okay?
16:50Your father would have liked her
16:55I like her too
16:59Hey, what are you doing with those flowers?
17:02Of course
17:22Ready?
17:29Dave
17:30When we first met, we agreed we felt like teenagers again
17:34Energized
17:36Invincible
17:38But as we fell in love, I felt more like a little kid again
17:42Full of wonder
17:44And hope
17:46I had absolute faith in you because I felt absolutely cherished
17:51Just like I did when I was small
17:54My father taught me that unconditional love was possible
17:57And I know you're the only man he'd trust his little girl to
18:03Because you love all versions of me
18:08Unconditionally
18:12And I vow to love you just the same
18:15Young or old
18:18Richer, poorer
18:19In sickness and in health
18:23Forever
18:25Full shit
18:29You were absolutely crying
18:30I was not
18:32Okay, I may have shed a tear
18:34But she's my baby sister and she was getting married
18:36I think I'm entitled to
18:37My God
18:38Okay, if you make this a big deal, Piper
18:40I swear
18:41No, no, no, not that
18:43Is that Sebastian Rockwell?
18:45The art critic?
18:46I'm kind of obsessed with him
18:47Hey Bash!
18:49Tate, no
18:51Tate, beautiful ceremony
18:53Thank you so much, my friend
18:54Sebastian, I want you to meet someone
18:56This is Piper Manning
18:58It's so nice to meet you, Mr. Rothwell
19:00I've been reading your writing for years
19:03That piece you wrote on the Edward Hopper retrospective at the Whitney
19:08Make me cry
19:10You're too kind
19:12Are you an artist yourself?
19:14I'm a painter
19:16Send me some photos of your work
19:18I'd love to know more about the woman who stole Tate Young's heart
19:20Excuse me, I have to take this
19:25Connect us
19:45So?
19:47Did you save a dance for me?
19:49I don't dance
19:51What?
19:52No
19:53Ariana said everyone had to dance
19:55And that includes you and me
19:57You don't want to piss off the bride, do you?
20:14How'd you get so good at this?
20:15I've attended way too many of these formal events to have not picked up a thing or two
20:20Oh!
20:22Oh!
20:23Is that your fun?
20:25How are you so bad at this?
20:27Dancing is not one of my skills
20:31So how did you get into it?
20:33Escorted?
20:35I needed help with my mom's medical bills
20:38And the pay was great
20:40And I didn't mind escaping my reality from time to time
20:45Turns out, when you're not born into a multi-million dollar family, life's kinda hard
20:51So having a concierge doctor isn't the norm?
20:55I was kinda hoping that this would be my last gig
21:01I wanna spend more time at home
21:03Get a remote job or something
21:06Job is a job
21:08There's nothing wrong with doing what it takes to survive
21:11But, for what it's worth
21:14I hope I'm your last assignment too
21:17How about a photo of the happy couple?
21:24Get cozy
21:26Come on Tate, give her a kiss
21:27Take, give her a kiss
21:29Aha!
21:31Your plan
21:50Okay!
21:52Have a good evening, little birds
21:58What's that for?
22:02Stay with me tonight
22:06I thought that kinda has squared
22:09We don't have to
22:12I just wanna spend more time with you
22:15Please
22:27Is it me?
22:34Uh, sure
22:48Do you have a shirt for me to wear?
22:51Right, uh, of course
22:58It was a gift from my dad
23:00Oh, are you sure you want me to wear it?
23:04Don't be silly
23:11Looks good on you
23:14Okay, who's being silly now?
23:17He's trying to be respectful
23:19I feel respected
23:21Now, can we sleep in the bed?
23:24Like adults?
23:25Hardwood flare, huh?
23:28Hardwood flare, huh?
23:30Honestly, you're stiff enough as it is
23:45Tea?
23:47Yeah?
23:48Yeah?
23:50I was just
23:52Seeing if you were awake
23:57Can't sleep?
24:06Not really?
24:10You?
24:12No
24:16Everything is
24:18Racing
24:26Is this okay?
24:32Everything's racing for me too
24:33Everything's racing for me too
24:46Is this okay?
24:47Okay?
25:12It's alright...
25:13I feel better.

33:05meddling from mom no more watching tape destroy the legacy my father created how is he from what i can tell
33:16miserable and he's making everybody around him miserable too

34:41be out in a sec take your time dear i think you're showing an artist that i've been trying to find for
34:50the past year you have no idea how hard it is to track him down he never signs his paintings
34:59i didn't realize he was being shown in a gallery i think i saw one of his paintings in your catalog
35:06resembled the one i purchased last year what do you think you're doing here excuse me i need to
35:14talk to the artist immediately does he know the gallery hired a prostitute i'm the artist that you've
35:21been looking for and this is my gallery now get off of my property before i call the police wait
35:28wait wait judging from your appearance i think i should stay i don't have to take your insults
35:36anymore if i'm not mistaken and i've had two pregnancies myself i think you're as far along as ariana's
35:43wedding did you do this to trap him you're coming after child support aren't you tate doesn't know
35:51and i don't need his support why didn't you tell him because i want nothing to do with the youngs
36:00as you can see i'm thriving on my own even as an escort i was fine and i refused to bring my
36:06daughter into a family that views me or her as a shameful mistake you're having a little girl
36:14yes i'm having a girl and just because i don't have the same resources as you
36:20doesn't mean i can't give her the best damn life possible
36:23she's going to be happy and healthy and she will never have the misfortune of meeting you now please leave
36:31thanks for coming by i needed access to all of dad's files on the foundation that's the only reason
36:45i'm here i don't want to argue with you is that all you think i do either that or you guilt trip me
36:50about shutting down dad's foundation i don't want to argue with you either i just want to ask have you
36:58you ever heard from piper again what no why i heard she opened her own gallery good for her
37:10i thought maybe we could stop by sometime or just you reconnect you know i i just don't understand
37:19you first you throw her out of the house and now you're trying to set us up that's not what i'm trying
37:24to do i thought that you would be happy that i'm back with delaney you know someone from our world
37:30i just can't win with you tate stop there's something that i have to tell you about piper
37:54this song is one of your favorites mama
38:24what are you doing here my mother told me how did you find me we have a pi on retainer of course you
38:36do do people respect anything you want to talk about respect how could you not tell me we're about
38:43to have a kid we're not about to do anything keep your voice down is that your mom is she okay no she's
38:54not okay why did you lie about her i wasn't lying when i said that she's no longer with us she's gone
39:02alzheimer's her care nearly drove me to bankruptcy but that's in the past now i'm fully capable of
39:13supporting my family all on my own you should have told me that it's too painful to talk about
39:23and you should have told me about this too you didn't defend me tate and you never reached out
39:32you wanted nothing to do with me after that day piper look i get it i'm a black mark on your precious
39:39reputation delaney's better for you how do you know about that the press fall was your every move
39:48and i'm sure they'd have a field day about this please just leave us alone
40:03i want my daughter to know real love and i don't think you're capable of it
40:09you haven't taken your telescope out since you were a kid yeah well i uh try not to think about
40:23dad too much these days yeah did you see piper what did she say how much does she want she didn't want
40:33anything we'll need to draft an nda good god a pregnant escort the media circus around that is that all you
40:41can think about i'm thinking about our family yes so am i i'm about to have a daughter out there in the
40:47world who i'll never meet thanks to you hey don't blame this on me you were the one that brought her in
40:53this house in the first place you're right and i'm ashamed of us for how we treated her you want to
41:03know why she was escorting it's because her mother is sick not dead i mean really sick but i guess
41:10delaney's email didn't include that huh you know what it doesn't even matter who's to blame
41:15i understand why she didn't tell me i make a terrible father
41:26i'm nothing like dad
41:34hey drew have you seen my key to the supply closet anywhere it's exquisite
41:39changed my life it's what made all this possible when did you paint it the night i met him before
41:55everything else i was thinking about vermeer's portraits his use of light and contrast to create
42:04a whole world and essence of a person what appears at first glance simple becomes increasingly
42:14intimate and exposes who the person is emotionally
42:22i owe you an apology piper and an explanation
42:27the way i accused you of only going after tate for his money
42:31i only feared that because that's how i married my husband i grew up with so little practically
42:39nothing really i vowed my children would not have the same fate so you accused me of what you did
42:47you went digging for gold only at first but yes i sought out harrison for the security
42:54so what happened after you got married did you tell him the truth or did you just live out a lie
43:01after a few months i was head over heels harrison was the love of my life the best husband and father
43:08i could have ever asked for well i'm sorry tate didn't turn out more like harrison then but i appreciate
43:15your honesty piper i know that if given the chance tate would follow in his father's footsteps
43:25you don't have to forgive me but please please let tate be a part of his child's life
43:36i'll think about it
43:46jossie brought me she must have really groveled she did change my mind about something
43:58i never grew up knowing my father and
44:05i'd be lying if i said that i didn't feel that absence so i'm willing to let you be in her life
44:11on my terms
44:18see you in a month wait what well the baby's not here yet yeah but i want to be a good father now
44:30what do you mean
44:30being a good father means taking care of the mother even if the child's not here yet
44:40you can come over tonight i need help building a crib i'll be there
44:52you're on the wrong page i am not
45:09if you just let me help no piper absolutely not and don't make me send you to bed early
45:19so how's your mom doing is there any chance for improvement
45:24not really you know she has good days but it's mainly about managing the bad ones
45:31i'm always worried that she's miserable she's non-verbal so i have no way of knowing
45:43speaking of your mother we uh we moved your for elizabeth piece into the estate now that the
45:49foundation is shutting down i heard
45:53why are you trying to shut down your father's work the foundation was draining us the family firm
45:59needs to expand the word family comes first in that sentence for a reason
46:05my dad would have loved you he always put it in that order too family foundation firm
46:13so with foundation comes before a firm don't you think he'd want you to keep it open
46:18yeah well add it to the list of ways i'm letting him down
46:23what else is on the list well all he ever wanted was for me to be happy and i'm not
46:29nonsense oh what's wrong contractions are you going into labor no it's just oh braxton hicks
46:44it's like a sharp pain across my stomach and my lower back
46:48better better

55:23my mom is so excited we're moving into the estate
55:36it's not exactly giving normal childhood well normal doesn't have to mean lugging a stroller up four
55:41flights of stairs piper and besides there's more than enough room here for me you lizzie and your mom
55:47she does seem more comfortable here i um i have a confession to make after the family doctor gave you
55:56the all clear i asked her to reach out to some alzheimer's specialists
56:01you did that of course i talked to them and we came up with an action plan that should give elizabeth
56:07more good days what kind of action plan well a full-time in-house specialist for one
56:12and an environment where she's surrounded by people who care for her plus something else that
56:20should help bring back some memories
56:25is that a piano
56:27she's happy
56:42tate i can tell she's happy music came right back to her
56:48the doctors don't know if it was muscle memory or what but they think it's a good sign
