U.S. sanctions China firms over Iran oil trade

The United States has imposed new sanctions on Chinese firms, vessels and individuals accused of helping Iran export oil, escalating tensions amid ongoing Middle East ceasefire efforts involving Israel and Hamas.

00:24The Treasury Department sanctioned Shandong Jincheng Petrochemical Group

00:29an independent Chinese refinery for purchasing millions of barrels of Iranian oil since 2023.

00:35According to the Treasury, several of the sanctioned tankers

00:38had transported millions of barrels of Iranian oil to China

00:41in direct violation of U.S. sanctions.

00:44U.S. officials say the money from these oil sales helps fund Iran's nuclear and missile programs

00:49and supports militant groups in the Middle East.

00:52Iran has denied those claims.

00:54The State Department has also blacklisted a China-based chemical logistics company

00:59accused of receiving Iranian petrochemicals.

01:02Beijing has condemned the move, calling it interference
