00:00Welcome on all to another episode of the Press Box episode 104 my name is Ben Hand
00:12joined alongside me once again is Josh Partridge out for another week still
00:16thinking about his terrible takes is Ryan Bentley he will be back with us
00:21likely in November but for now before we get started to what is an action-packed
00:27show we've got a lot more cricket involved than we have in recent times
00:32but for now we'll start with everybody's favorite segment numerology
00:37so Joshua this one is playing the theme of the the AFLW that was played in
00:43Launceston obviously we'll talk to that a little bit more later but I want to just
00:49throw a few numbers at you to get this 104 right so obviously the score was a
00:54convincing North Melbourne win 88 to 20 against the Sydney Swans at UTAS
00:58Stadium that obviously equals 108 I know a little bit too high but of course
01:03Jasmine Garner kicked four goals of course she did and and you know what you're
01:06gonna do there you take away those four goals from the total score and that is
01:10of course 104 well congratulations Ben that wasn't as stretchy as I thought it
01:13was going to be but uh so well done you got there in the end exactly right and we
01:18will start off with that for what happened on the weekend just a quick rundown
01:21North Melbourne Tasmanian kangaroos as they are known in the AFLW for for only
01:26this year for this year is the last year of this partnership isn't it exactly
01:30right it's a bit of a sad sort of quiet end for North Melbourne as a football
01:35club in this state they've obviously been around for some time and pulling out
01:38because of the Tassie Devils arrival they're taking their games to Western
01:42Australia and that unfortunately means the last time Mia King at least in North
01:46Melbourne colours will be playing a home game in her hometown of Launceston she
01:52killed it once again she always does when she's down here I think had something like
01:5529 touches slightly overshadowed by Ash Riddell's 45 but uh but Mia had a great
02:01game nonetheless yes yeah of course she just does the dirty route doesn't she
02:06but that wasn't the only footy game I know it's October there was there was two games of
02:09footy going on the weekend yeah there was a relive the rivalry so a legends game
02:13playing here in Tasmania was in the north of the state for the third time ever so
02:17we had the likes of Stevie Johnson Michael Lachlan then mixing it with your
02:21influencer types the Marmalade boys were down here and then yeah you're mixing it
02:25with the your local legends so we had Adam Derbyshire, Gary Shipton, Brendan Savage
02:30players like that also play so Tassie got the win in that slightly interesting
02:36circumstances they kicked two goals in the last minute so it's kind of the way that
02:40those charity games sometimes go but this is for a great cause raising money
02:44for food bank Tasmania's school breakfast schools program so it's an
02:49awesome charity once again and they've raised over a hundred thousand in the
02:5212 years they've done it so yeah congratulations once again to James
02:56Wiggins and the crew yeah absolutely I'm not sure you might be questioning the
03:01integrity of a charity football game I would never do that of course Tassie Devils had a
03:06really really massive week we've done so much Tassie Devils stuff so we
03:09won't go too much into detail but of course signing their first players we
03:14did probably not Nostradamus like but we did predict a few of their first
03:19signings Robbie Fox, Joya Menzi and then of course in in the women of
03:24Sarah Skinner Sarah Skinner thank you very much and they also found out their
03:28draft conceptions which have been quoted as quite generous according to multiple
03:33including Kaltumi at AFL.com.au so they are very busy at work getting even more
03:39signatures headed towards the Apple Isle but we will move swiftly over to
03:44cricket and TCA upgrades is where we're going to start Josh you know when this
03:51first came out there was a lot of pie in the sky and maybe feel about it and that
03:54this is just the pipe dream the council sort of want but it does seem like this is
04:00far more concrete now they still need external funding but they have had it
04:04the plan improved by by council although it does look endorsed I should say although
04:10it does look a lot different obviously the initial design was this mirrored
04:13design towards both the MTCA2 and MTCA1 it's no longer happening that's been
04:17explained away as you know you don't want to take both grounds out of action for a
04:23long period of time by that knocking everything down so this way they keep the
04:27David Boone stand as it is with a few minor upgrades and then they're going to
04:30build a new structure next to that that will house I believe Old Scotch and
04:34Launceston career club while the original Boone stand will obviously house South
04:39Launceston and Northern Rangers soccer club so exciting times yeah very
04:45exciting and the name of that stand escapes me the other one that they've got
04:49there at the moment I just call it the open stand out the roof but at the moment it's
04:53quite ugly to be honest it's been sitting there just sitting there for
04:57probably the last probably 10-15 years while there hasn't been any really high
05:01level of cricket at the MTCA ground so to get that a new look will be
05:06fantastic and something that certainly needs to happen in Northern cricket I
05:09think just to give it a nice little boost to and not just for Northern
05:13cricket but for the clubs that are housed there as well exactly right and of
05:16course the news that MoBro once again are hosting the Cricket North Grand Final I
05:20know that they'll want to hopefully host it there again in the future and this
05:23will go on way towards doing that speaking of which it is cricket season is
05:27upon us we've actually already had one weekend happen but we'll touch on that a
05:30bit later first we'll start off with Cricket North and TCL what's what's the
05:35I suppose the headline storylines for people to look out for this year yeah I
05:39suppose it's just whether people can knock off your top dogs I suppose
05:43Westbury have obviously been the top dog in the Cricket North competition for so
05:46long Mowbray got within fingertips of knocking them off last year actually
05:51winning the first innings of the Grand Final so whether whether they can be
05:54defeated and then in the TCL everyone's chasing Hasbro and Longford as they
05:58always seem to be doing and then yeah so it's just a matter of whether the other
06:01clubs are able to to get up there and take them take them to school absolutely
06:06and obviously not giving away too much from your previews that are coming up this
06:09week Jonathan Chapman looks like he's gonna have a much bigger role to play in
06:13Cricket North this summer so for all the other clubs I'm sure that's well
06:17exactly what they wanted to hear and obviously a champion of cricket in this
06:20region and yeah looking forward to seeing what he can do with a bit more
06:24time now in the Westbury colors I'm gonna before we get get those tips from you
06:31Josh I'm gonna obviously introduce the segment is of course what everyone's
06:34probably waiting and going oh you haven't seen it yet when's it coming of course
06:38now it is Hany's hard hit so Josh this is a bit of a favor of Hany's hard hit is to get
06:45people's predictions so that we can look back on them and laugh when they're wrong
06:48and because Ryan isn't here I'm now the crash tester he's timed his exit well he
06:53knows what he's doing yeah can I please get your tips for the Greater Northern Cup
06:58the Cricket North TCL actually we'll leave it there as someone that's actively
07:05involved in in cricket club land I know this is just going to come back and bite
07:08me really really heavily go to Northern Cup we'll go we'll go down the Northwest
07:13we'll go Olverston for the Greater Northern Cup they're they're really good
07:18as simple as that they were and they seem to always be bringing in extra good
07:22players as well so be interesting to see their list changes over the offseason as
07:25well yeah just quickly on that one I know they are they probably should have won last
07:29year look they were probably playing the best cricket and then inexplicably lost to
07:32Bernie in quite unbelievable circumstances yes they did didn't they and then
07:37Cricket North are going to go out on a live and say Westbury it's a massive
07:41they've got a bloke from the UK returning Nathan Parkin who's a really
07:46good batter as well that just adds more depth to their already deep lineup so
07:50that's scary and then in the TCL I said either Hadsman or Longford before and I
07:58think I'm going to go with Longford this year yeah and I'm just going to quickly
08:03throw in a mention for the Riverside women I think they're going to win the
08:07Cricket North women's competition I think they're going to go back to back of course
08:12people who might know would know I'm probably pretty biased in that instance
08:16I thought you were just name dropping the men and going yeah the men have got a good team this year
08:19no and then I do agree with it with with Olberston I think they're an
08:27exceptionally good team in Cricket North men I'm obviously going to probably stay out
08:33of that one obviously I want the team I play for Riverside to win but I think it's
08:38going to be a hotly contested competition I'm really looking forward to being
08:41being involved but they'll bring us on to our final segment of the day there's
08:46obviously one team that we haven't talked about but before we get into that it is
08:49the the segment that continues to bring all sorts of audiences to this program
08:54that is of course Josh's local hero of the week well you did say Ben there's a
08:59team we haven't talked about and it is the great Northern Raiders who got a
09:02nine-wicket win on the weekend chasing down 200 a star of that show was the
09:08local hero of the week Tom Dwyer who scored 101 of 158 balls unbeaten and
09:13obviously he scored that hundred but that pales in comparison to winning this
09:18award so congratulations Tom on being named Josh's local hero of the week and I
09:23know he'll be absolutely gutted that he didn't get a mention Cooper Anthees you
09:25also batted well so I'm sure you'll be thrilled with that mention obviously
09:31but together they put on over a hundred and they absolutely dominated that
09:34run chase so well done to both of you but especially Tom that's all the time we
09:39have for this week we'll catch you guys for the next one
09:51you
