00:04:05That's a wild one!
00:04:07Hey, where's my tequila?
00:04:19Go, go, go!
00:04:21Woo!
00:04:23Nice!
00:04:25Woo!
00:04:39Guys, these girls are working on tips.
00:04:41How are you?
00:04:43Huh?
00:04:49Why don't you let me take you home?
00:04:51Have a nice ride.
00:05:03You think I'm a hooker?
00:05:07Ha-ha-ha!
00:05:09Woo!
00:05:11You ever see a girl act like that?
00:05:15She's a wild one.
00:05:17I bet you I can break her.
00:05:19Ha-ha!
00:05:20Here, go give her that.
00:05:22And give her my phone number.
00:05:24My address, too.
00:05:28Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:05:42Oh, Jesus.
00:05:46What?
00:05:47Yeah, I know.
00:05:48I left my keys in your car.
00:05:50I have to break into my own house.
00:05:53Yeah, okay, bye-bye.
00:05:54Bye-bye.
00:05:55Bye-bye.
00:05:58Bye-bye.
00:05:59Oh, my God.
00:06:29Oh, my God.
00:06:59Oh, my God.
00:07:28He's not breathing.
00:07:32Oh, my God.
00:07:36How's he looking?
00:07:37Oh, he's gone.
00:07:38Been gone a while, I'd say.
00:07:43Can you shock him or something made him come back?
00:07:46Just take her out of here, okay?
00:07:56Okay, ma'am.
00:07:57Can you tell me what happened?
00:07:59How long has your husband been laying over there like that?
00:08:01I don't know.
00:08:03All day I had.
00:08:05Daddy, he was sick.
00:08:08He was up all night.
00:08:10He bought a bunch of dope.
00:08:12Dope? What do you mean?
00:08:12Like pop?
00:08:13I don't know.
00:08:14You know.
00:08:23Black tar heroin.
00:08:24At least 10 empty balloons.
00:08:27There were 12.
00:08:28He stayed up all night and then he woke me up because he said he was feeling sick.
00:08:40He was afraid he might have a seizure.
00:08:42And he wanted me to watch him.
00:08:48So I just laid on the couch and I just watched him and I fell asleep for a bit.
00:08:56I was tired because he kept me up all night.
00:08:59I tried to make him breathe and he wouldn't breathe.
00:09:07He wouldn't breathe.
00:09:09He wouldn't breathe.
00:09:09There's a prescription bottle there next to him.
00:09:13Looks like a prescription for about 120 Xanax.
00:09:17That was filled yesterday.
00:09:19Do you think he took all of them?
00:09:22Just last week, I made him promise me to go to rehab.
00:09:27And he promised me.
00:09:29You promised me.
00:09:34You promised me.
00:09:37You promised me.
00:09:38You promised me.
00:09:38You got something to calm her down.
00:09:39You sure?
00:09:40You promised me.
00:09:46Man, man, man.
00:09:47It's already a circus.
00:09:48Are we the last ones on the scene?
00:09:50I told you we didn't have time for you to stop and take a leak.
00:09:52Let's go.
00:09:57You set?
00:09:57You're going right in.
00:09:58All right.
00:09:58I'll meet you.
00:09:58I'm here on Palomino Lane, in front of the home of former casino boss Ted Binion, who was found dead today after an apparent drug overdose.
00:10:29Binion was, of course, the son of Las Vegas pioneer Benny Binion, immortalized in the statue erected in his honor down on 2nd Street.
00:10:36Ted Binion was part owner of the casino bounded by his father, the famous Binion's Horseshoe, the site of the annual World Series of Poker Tournament, an event the older Binion introduced in 1970, and an event which Ted Binion himself hosted for several decades.
00:10:48Perhaps, perhaps not coincidentally, this tragedy occurs only seven months after a hearing in which Binion's gaming license was permanently revoked by the gaming control board because of his drug use and his ties to mob figure Fat Herbie Blitzstein.
00:11:01Mr. Blitzstein is not now, or was he ever, a business associate.
00:11:07I simply knew him as a heck of a nice guy.
00:11:10And I don't think that having dinner with a friend should bar me from operating a casino that I've run for my entire adult life.
00:11:21It's the only life I know.
00:11:24It's the only life I want.
00:11:31Binion's body was discovered by Sandy Murphy, his live-in girlfriend.
00:11:35It was so shaken up, she was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
00:11:39Kevin James, KNBB News, Las Vegas.
00:11:41I'm sorry, sir.
00:11:48Vegas Police Department, the casino boss Ted Binion, recently in the news for his troubles with the Nevada Gaming Control Board, was indeed found dead of a drug overdose.
00:11:58He was surprised, he was a junkie.
00:12:01There are no additional details at this time.
00:12:03We'll keep you up to date.
00:12:05Rick Tabish.
00:12:06Hey, you okay?
00:12:07The cops are here and they want to talk to me again, and I swear to God I'm going to lose it.
00:12:12Look, you're not going to lose it.
00:12:14I can't deal with this alone.
00:12:16You have to come back.
00:12:18No one can do.
00:12:20That silver is an orphan.
00:12:21That silver needs a new mommy and daddy.
00:12:24Well, get it tomorrow.
00:12:25I need you to come back now.
00:12:37As Ted Binion's attorney and lifelong friend, I can only express a sense of deep shock.
00:12:51I saw him just the other day.
00:12:54I can't believe it.
00:12:56Lou.
00:12:57Jay Green, Las Vegas Sun.
00:12:59What do you say to the rumor that Binion was a targeted mob hit?
00:13:03I mean, after all, Fat Herbie was murdered three months ago.
00:13:05That is ridiculous.
00:13:07There were absolutely no signs of foul play.
00:13:15Um, look, that's, that's all, no more comment.
00:13:18Lou.
00:13:19Lou.
00:13:20Lou.
00:13:21Rick Tabish on construction.
00:13:23I'm with Lou.
00:13:24Lou.
00:13:25Hey, Sandy, call.
00:13:26She's at the hospital.
00:13:27Cops are all over.
00:13:28She needs your help.
00:13:28Sorry.
00:13:29Not my problem.
00:13:30Not your problem?
00:13:31Wait, isn't it your job to protect your clients?
00:13:33Look, just because Ted got drunk with you a few times, doesn't mean...
00:13:36Come on, Lou.
00:13:37I've been here almost every day for the past six months, and you know that.
00:13:40Yeah.
00:13:41Yeah, I know that.
00:13:45What the hell is your problem?
00:13:49Come in.
00:13:50Hello.
00:13:52Rick.
00:13:53Rick.
00:14:00I, uh, I brought Greg.
00:14:10You're a lawyer?
00:14:11Why didn't you bring Lou?
00:14:15I just talked to your doctor, Sandy.
00:14:17He won't release you until he knows you have somewhere to stay.
00:14:20What do you mean?
00:14:20I'm going home.
00:14:21I can't.
00:14:24Lou said they had to do an inventory of the house first.
00:14:26Preserve the contents.
00:14:27But it's my house.
00:14:30It's in Teddy's will.
00:14:31I get the house.
00:14:32Lou knows that.
00:14:35Oh, God, it's Becky.
00:14:37She wants me out.
00:14:39That gold-digging, booty-shaking whore.
00:14:42Crying her crocodile tears, will she?
00:14:45Teddy said he's going to throw her ass out just the other day.
00:14:49Really?
00:14:49Come on.
00:14:49What day was that?
00:14:50I don't know.
00:14:52Just the other day, overdosed my fat aunt Fanny.
00:14:57My brother has been smoking heroin on and off for the last 20 years.
00:15:01He knew exactly how much he could handle.
00:15:03I bet you my casino, that harlot, had something to do with it.
00:15:07Something meaning what?
00:15:09I don't know.
00:15:11But I think the police ought to be investigating it as a homicide.
00:15:19A homicide?
00:15:21That's a pretty strong word.
00:15:23I knew that Sandy Murphy would be my brother's downfall from the minute I laid eyes on her.
00:15:29Benny?
00:15:31Benny?
00:15:33Benny?
00:15:34Who the hell are you?
00:15:37Hey!
00:15:43If you gave my boy drugs, I am going to shoot you between the eyes right now.
00:15:47He's not doing drugs.
00:15:48He's getting laid.
00:15:49Getting laid?
00:15:50Hey, he's a baby!
00:15:52Hello.
00:15:54Hey, I remember you.
00:15:56Yeah.
00:15:58Yeah, come on over.
00:15:59Come on over.
00:16:00Yeah.
00:16:01Hey, Sandy, honey, you'll remember where I live.
00:16:03You know what?
00:16:04You've got a date sitting right by you right now,
00:16:06and you're still inviting another one over?
00:16:07You're an idiot.
00:16:08What can I say?
00:16:09The ladies love me.
00:16:10No, they love our money.
00:16:12That's what they love.
00:16:13No.
00:16:14No, this one's different.
00:16:15Yeah, right.
00:16:16Benny?
00:16:17Benny?
00:16:18Benny?
00:16:20Excuse me.
00:16:21When your dad finds out,
00:16:23get your shirt on.
00:16:24Come on, we're going home.
00:16:26Button up.
00:16:30Hey, there she is.
00:16:32Sandy!
00:16:33Oh, yeah, she's different, all right.
00:16:35Excuse me?
00:16:36You watch out for my sister.
00:16:37She used to pull my hair when I was little.
00:16:39Hey.
00:16:40Hey, aren't you going to introduce them?
00:16:43Oh, hey.
00:16:44Terry, this is Sandy, my date.
00:16:46Sandy, this is Terry.
00:16:47My other date.
00:16:49Hi.
00:16:49How dare you embarrass me like this?
00:16:52You choose right now, her and me.
00:16:54Come on.
00:16:55She's got way too much nerve.
00:16:56Let's go.
00:16:57That's rich coming from you.
00:16:58Come on.
00:16:59You are grounded.
00:17:03Terry, you have a nice evening.
00:17:09I like having my own teddy bear.
00:17:13I want to buy you something.
00:17:16Hmm?
00:17:16What do you like?
00:17:19You like diamonds?
00:17:23You could buy me a bumper sticker.
00:17:26Says Ted Bunyan, satisfied lover.
00:17:28You gotta stop calling me Bunyan.
00:17:30My name's not Bunyan.
00:17:33It's Binion.
00:17:35Binion.
00:17:36As in Binion's horseshoe.
00:17:38Horseshoe.
00:17:40My casino.
00:17:45Yeah, right.
00:17:47You expect me to believe you own the horseshoe.
00:17:56I bet a chick who was real great
00:18:00Toot-a-toot-a-day
00:18:02Ah, she said, listen, man
00:18:04I think you were spam
00:18:07But there's one thing
00:18:09That you should know
00:18:11I gotta have lots of dough
00:18:13I had a thing
00:18:15Cause I'm so sick
00:18:16Did not have to do you that day
00:18:18And I got a few white men
00:18:20Joseph, good evening, Mr. Binion.
00:18:22How are you?
00:18:23Good, sir.
00:18:23Say hello to my girl.
00:18:24Good evening.
00:18:26Come on.
00:18:37This must be worth like a million dollars
00:18:49Seven million dollars
00:18:54A little loose change, baby
00:18:56Loose change
00:18:59Ka-ching
00:19:00What were you saying about those diamonds
00:19:05That you were gonna get me?
00:19:07Oh, did I say something about diamonds?
00:19:12Well, all right.
00:19:13Yeah?
00:19:14This is loose sockle up at the house.
00:19:34This is Lou Sacco up at the house.
00:19:43There's someone here who's entered this house illegally.
00:19:45What?
00:19:46What did I just hear come out of your mouth?
00:19:47This woman is not to enter the property.
00:19:49She has no business here.
00:19:50I live here.
00:19:51She does not live here.
00:19:52She lives in California.
00:19:54See this?
00:19:55See this address?
00:19:56My address.
00:19:56I've lived here for three years.
00:20:01I'm not moving in with you.
00:20:05You know, you didn't answer your phone last night.
00:20:07I couldn't find you.
00:20:09What were you doing?
00:20:11Were you humping someone else?
00:20:13Go to hell.
00:20:14What?
00:20:14You see?
00:20:15That's why I need you.
00:20:17Because you tell me to go to hell.
00:20:19That's how I know you mean what you say.
00:20:22And you remember what you said?
00:20:24What?
00:20:25You said that you were falling in love with me.
00:20:28Yeah?
00:20:29While I was drunk.
00:20:32Oh, come on.
00:20:33I'll buy you a car.
00:20:36I'll give you a credit card.
00:20:38I'll buy you a pony.
00:20:40I don't care about your money.
00:20:42Oh!
00:20:43Really?
00:20:44Well, then you don't care if I do this.
00:20:55Wait, no.
00:20:56All right, stop.
00:20:57It's real money.
00:20:58Okay, I'll move in with you.
00:21:03Hey, girl.
00:21:04Come here.
00:21:05Only if you're sure I can make you happy.
00:21:07Oh, baby.
00:21:08We were meant to be together.
00:21:12Mm-hmm.
00:21:15See?
00:21:16I told you.
00:21:17We were meant to be together.
00:21:18You come up the hard way
00:21:29Too close to the edge
00:21:32You drank in the morning
00:21:37Won't quit cigarettes
00:21:41You come up the hard way
00:21:47On the poor side of town
00:21:50My family don't like it
00:21:55When you come around
00:21:59You come up the hard way
00:22:03Oh, my God.
00:22:05All these books.
00:22:11Five.
00:22:1638.
00:22:21There you go.
00:22:22There you go.
00:22:23I hope you're kidding.
00:22:24I hope you're not planning on burying this way the hell out here.
00:22:27I wouldn't kid you, Lou.
00:22:28You're my favorite goat.
00:22:29Sit down.
00:22:30Have a drink.
00:22:31You're making me nervous.
00:22:32Have you ever heard
00:22:34Of a safety deposit box?
00:22:36I'm sure I have.
00:22:38It's all there, Tim.
00:22:40Well, that's my sister
00:22:41Stole some of them, huh?
00:22:42No, I'm telling you
00:22:43It's all been inventory.
00:22:45And I'm telling you
00:22:45That we're doing another inventory
00:22:47So start counting those sleeves.
00:22:53There's like a thousand books in there.
00:22:55Have you read all of them?
00:22:56Didn't anybody tell you?
00:22:58I'm a renaissance man.
00:23:01You?
00:23:02Where are you going?
00:23:04I told you to sit down and count them sleeves.
00:23:07You can let them go.
00:23:08I'll help you count.
00:23:10Perfect.
00:23:11Sandy knows how to count.
00:23:14I gotta get back to town anyway.
00:23:17Get the hell out of here.
00:23:18You want to help me count?
00:23:23Mm-hmm.
00:23:25Mm-hmm.
00:23:27All right.
00:23:31Here, you want to count?
00:23:32Sit down.
00:23:34Count these.
00:23:36Count these.
00:23:38Count this.
00:23:39Count this.
00:23:40Count this.
00:23:42And count this.
00:23:43Before my mother died,
00:23:50she asked each of us what we wanted.
00:23:53My sister Becky had a list
00:23:54as long
00:23:57as your arm.
00:24:01Me?
00:24:03I just wanted the silver.
00:24:04I know why you want this.
00:24:15But why do you want me?
00:24:19I mean, you're rich.
00:24:21You're good-looking.
00:24:24You're smart.
00:24:25I didn't even finish high school.
00:24:30Don't sell yourself short, baby.
00:24:33Look at you.
00:24:35Gorgeous.
00:24:38Unpredictable.
00:24:41Mouthy.
00:24:44You're spectacular.
00:24:47You rescued me.
00:24:50I want to get old with you.
00:24:53I'm already old.
00:24:55That's all right.
00:24:59I'll be dead before you.
00:25:01I'll leave you a map
00:25:02where I buried all my treasure.
00:25:07Don't look at me like that.
00:25:10I know a pirate when I see one.
00:25:11I'm taking my clothes.
00:25:25You can't stop me.
00:25:26I don't care about your clothes.
00:25:29Then why am I looking at your ugly face right now?
00:25:31I thought you were going to get a court order.
00:25:33So why don't you go get one?
00:25:34Go!
00:25:35Go!
00:25:36Go!
00:25:36I don't know.
00:26:06Hey, the coins are all still here.
00:26:11How's it going out there?
00:26:13Yeah, we just started digging.
00:26:15We just started digging, babe.
00:26:16Yeah.
00:26:18We'll hurry up because Lou's trying to get a court order to sit on top of everything.
00:26:22You're preaching to the choir.
00:26:30Tag him with the others.
00:26:36Easy.
00:26:38Hey, Rick.
00:26:40He's got problems.
00:26:44All right, get that out of here.
00:26:45What are we still talking about?
00:26:46You don't say anything.
00:26:47It's quiet.
00:26:58Woo!
00:26:59Evening, officers.
00:27:04What can I do for you?
00:27:06Depends.
00:27:07What you got going on here?
00:27:10We're just framing, getting ready to pour a little concrete.
00:27:13This late at night?
00:27:15Well, we're going to pour the concrete in the morning.
00:27:19You need a truck like that to pour concrete?
00:27:21See, my truck will come in the morning.
00:27:28Well, hello, gentlemen.
00:27:33There's a crap load of silver in here.
00:27:35Yeah.
00:27:36You know, we heard that Ted Binion had buried his silver out this way, but we figured he'd
00:27:42buried it on his ranch somewhere.
00:27:44Not right here.
00:27:45Well, that's Ted for you.
00:27:48Look, I'd have been straight from the start, but I promised Ted to keep this a secret, so...
00:27:53Is that right?
00:27:54Yeah.
00:27:56Good friends with old Ted, were you?
00:27:58Yes, I was.
00:28:00Oh, Lordy.
00:28:01Oh, God.
00:28:06Woo!
00:28:07Ted Binion, how you doing?
00:28:10Good.
00:28:12Rick Tavish.
00:28:13Pleasure to meet you.
00:28:14Oh.
00:28:15Where you hail from, Tavish?
00:28:17My domicile is a great city of Missoula, Montana.
00:28:20Montana!
00:28:21Woo!
00:28:22Still the best times of my life for a Montana.
00:28:26My daddy's ranch.
00:28:29Come on, Tavish.
00:28:31Buy you a drink.
00:28:32No, I'll buy you a drink.
00:28:36Herbie.
00:28:37A friend of a friend in the toilet.
00:28:39What did you say his name is?
00:28:40Rick.
00:28:41What do you do?
00:28:42Construction.
00:28:42Construction.
00:28:43Trucking.
00:28:44Hey.
00:28:45Hey, Herbie.
00:28:45How you been?
00:28:46Rick Tavish.
00:28:47Yeah, we met.
00:28:48Yeah.
00:28:49They say this ain't a small town anymore.
00:28:52How's a nice boy from Montana?
00:28:54I know a shady character like you.
00:28:56Yeah, he gets around, but he...
00:28:58Well, I guess I don't got away.
00:29:01I'll catch my P's and Q's with you.
00:29:02What the hell are you, P's and Q's?
00:29:04You just don't tell them a lot.
00:29:06Ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:29:07Hey.
00:29:08Hey, girl.
00:29:09Ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:29:11Look, I had a deal with Ted, all right?
00:29:13Look, if he was here right now, he'd be laughing his ass off,
00:29:16or he'd have your effing badge.
00:29:18Come on, guys.
00:29:19Up, out.
00:29:20Take him over to the car.
00:29:22I just can't understand why the police aren't calling it a suspicious death.
00:29:26I mean, anybody with half a brain can see that Sandy Murphy and that muscle-headed boyfriend
00:29:32of hers, they did it.
00:29:34They murdered him.
00:29:34They murdered Teddy.
00:29:36I mean, look.
00:29:36Did you read it?
00:29:37Have you read it?
00:29:38Look, right there.
00:29:39They announced it practically to the world.
00:29:42They wanted him dead.
00:29:43What?
00:29:47There's a rumor going around that you wanted him dead.
00:29:52You told the gaming control board that Ted had made death threats against you.
00:29:58He told him that he only did it because you threatened him first.
00:30:01Hey, you know that's BS.
00:30:04When Teddy was drinking or drinking, he said things.
00:30:06We all said things.
00:30:09On the big, Teddy, you've done the paperwork.
00:30:12You know, there is something wrong with you.
00:30:13The gaming board has told you numerous times that shacking up with the stripper is a questionable
00:30:17choice, yet you continue to do so.
00:30:20It really ticks me off when you talk about me like I'm not here.
00:30:23So the gaming board's got their panties in a twist.
00:30:25So what's new?
00:30:26Huh?
00:30:27In February, the suspension will be lifted and everybody will go back to work.
00:30:30You couldn't pass a drug test if your life depended on you.
00:30:33Well, I'll shave every hair off my body if I have to.
00:30:35In the meantime, the horseshoe continues to crumble around our ears.
00:30:38No, thank you.
00:30:39We are buying you out.
00:30:40You'll be dead first.
00:30:41You're going to sit here and my house is dreading my life.
00:30:44I don't think so.
00:30:44You're going to put in the garbage.
00:30:45Well, you want label guns at the dinner table, that's fine with me.
00:30:48Good.
00:30:49There's only way to shut her up.
00:30:51Don't put a gun on my mom.
00:30:53Yeah.
00:30:54I'll take you out.
00:30:55I hope you told your slut what clothes you want to be buried in.
00:30:59How many times I've got to tell you?
00:31:03I'm the only one who's allowed to call her a slut.
00:31:06And just so everybody knows, I want to be buried in my blue suit.
00:31:22Now, just so everybody knows, I'm going to buy them out.
00:31:29Why do you always laugh at the way your sister treats me?
00:31:32Well, I don't know why you've got to always let it get to you.
00:31:36I'm afraid you'll believe her.
00:31:39Oh, baby.
00:31:42You know I don't care a thing about what she says.
00:31:45You don't get it.
00:31:50I love you.
00:31:53If you left me, I don't know what I'd do.
00:31:55Oh.
00:31:57Give me a kiss.
00:32:03Somebody please get the door.
00:32:05Minnie.
00:32:07Go get that door and then get dressed.
00:32:08We're going to be late for the service.
00:32:10I'm going.
00:32:11Coming.
00:32:13What's with the racket?
00:32:15Where's your mother?
00:32:24Ted's blue suit.
00:32:26I took it to the funeral place today.
00:32:28They told me that you'd already brought him a black suit.
00:32:30That's not what he wanted, Becky, and you know that.
00:32:34Of all days.
00:32:37Of all days.
00:32:39Who else is here?
00:32:45This is family time.
00:32:48And you are not invited.
00:32:52Go on.
00:32:55What are you doing?
00:32:57Becky, this isn't right.
00:32:59You can't act like I don't matter.
00:33:00Hey.
00:33:20Hey.
00:33:21Hey.
00:33:21Hey.
00:33:22Hey.
00:33:29Hey, we need to talk.
00:33:32Did they set your bail yet?
00:33:34That's not why I'm calling.
00:33:37They searched my truck.
00:33:39So?
00:33:40I found a note from you.
00:33:52I love my lover. That's what she wrote.
00:33:55Sandy Murphy and her lover, Rick Tabish, murdered my brother.
00:33:58I don't know how they did it, but they did it.
00:34:00And you know this because...
00:34:01Because I have flawless women's intuition.
00:34:03Now I just need somebody to get out there,
00:34:05start talking to people, and prove it one way or the other.
00:34:08Now, Lou offered you the job. Do you want it or not?
00:34:11Only if I'm allowed to give the police whatever I find.
00:34:14Honey.
00:34:22You know my brother...
00:34:29Teddy.
00:34:32We used to go hide and go seek in that casino when we were kids.
00:34:39You give whatever you find, whatever, to the police.
00:34:44I'd appreciate it.
00:34:46I'll do it.
00:34:47You know what, they're above you.
00:34:49I love my lover right there.
00:34:50What the hell they think is going on?
00:34:53This is such a nightmare.
00:34:56Don't worry, baby.
00:34:57I called the sheriff, baby.
00:34:58I've got it covered.
00:34:59I did call him.
00:35:00Three times I called him.
00:35:02Why did you keep that note?
00:35:05You know what?
00:35:07Good.
00:35:08It's out.
00:35:09I don't care who knows.
00:35:10Really?
00:35:11Well, don't forget I'm the actual one who's married.
00:35:14I didn't forget.
00:35:16Maybe I should have let her bail you out.
00:35:19Look, whatever they say about us, we just deny.
00:35:24Just deny, deny, deny.
00:35:26You know, if people knew what it was like living with Ted, they'd congratulate me for
00:35:32seeing Faithful as long as I did.
00:35:34What did you do?
00:35:35What did you do?
00:35:36Because you don't know when to shut up!
00:35:37Shut up!
00:35:38Shut up!
00:35:39Shut up!
00:35:40Shut up!
00:35:41Shut up!
00:35:42Shut up!
00:35:43Shut up!
00:35:44Shut up!
00:35:45Shut up!
00:35:46Why didn't you ever have hit me again?
00:35:49You better stop.
00:35:50I'll send your ass back to Cheetahs.
00:35:51Replace your ass!
00:35:52Mr. Dan, what is going on?
00:35:53What are you, writing a book?
00:35:54That woman ain't worth eight eggs.
00:35:55She sure knows how to fight.
00:35:59I suppose Rick called you, told you to take me out, keep me happy, keep me quiet.
00:36:06He's concerned about you, yes.
00:36:08Well, he should be.
00:36:09He's been gone three weeks, being Mr. Perfect husband.
00:36:26He said he'd only be gone a couple of days.
00:36:34be gone a couple of days. Hey, I want him back down here, too. I keep telling him the pot's about to boil.
00:37:04I still don't understand how they can charge me with trying to steal the silver. I wasn't even
00:37:09there. Your cell phone records show that Rick talked to you several times while he was digging
00:37:14it up. Evidence of conspiracy. My cell phone records? That's right. Greg, are you saying that
00:37:21the police know every time Rick and me spoke on the phone? Excuse me. I was asked to deliver this
00:37:28to the lady? Courtesy of Mr. Ian Miller. He owns half the mines in Nevada. May I? Anything
00:37:42you need.
00:37:53Cell phone records. All summer long, Rick and Sandy were calling each other 20, 30 times
00:37:58a day. There's also receipts for hotel stays in Beverly Hills. Signed, Sandy Tappas. And
00:38:06taped interviews with witnesses who heard them talking about killing Ted. And you showed
00:38:12all this to the police? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I think I'm gonna have Mr. Sacco cut you
00:38:22a check today. Mm-hmm. Now that certain facts have come to light surrounding the death of Ted
00:38:29Binion, we no longer believe the cause of death to be undetermined. During autopsy, we discovered
00:38:35a liquid mixture of heroin and Xanax in Binion's stomach. As he was known to smoke and not ingest
00:38:41the drug, we now believe Ted Binion was murdered. As to figuring out the particular details of
00:38:49the homicide, I'll defer that to Lieutenant Austin. Excuse me, but how do you investigate
00:38:53a homicide five months after the fact? Wasn't the crime scene completely contaminated? This case
00:38:57will be particularly challenging, yes. Well, who's on your list of suspects? I'm afraid
00:39:02we're not at liberty to discuss that at this time. As if the world doesn't know the only names
00:39:08of Rick and Sandy on that list. We know their motives. I know this is an odd place to come,
00:39:15but it keeps all those holier-than-thou reporters from following us around. Here, uh, who are you here?
00:39:22Sandy, this is Evan James. Hi, how are you? Good, thank you. Nice to meet you.
00:39:26Good coming. Sure. Yeah, thank you very much for coming.
00:39:32So. So. So, the toxicology report just came in. It clearly states that Ted died of an overdose.
00:39:42They're saying that the cause of death is undetermined. And the cops, they're calling me and Sandy.
00:39:48They're trying to get us to talk, trying to get us to come in there and jump up some,
00:39:51uh, murder charges or something. I... You gotta be kidding me.
00:39:57Do you want a lap dance?
00:40:00Um. Well, I don't think you should.
00:40:07No, you thought that I meant me give you one.
00:40:10No, no, silly. I meant that Rick could buy you one.
00:40:14I'm sure that could be possible. I just...
00:40:17What I'd really like to know is why you called me down here.
00:40:20Well, we saw you in the news, and you seem like a fair guy.
00:40:25And if we're gonna give an interview, it needs to be fair.
00:40:28So you're saying you want an interview?
00:40:30Yeah.
00:40:31Exclusive?
00:40:32Yes.
00:40:33Go ahead, shoot. What do you want to know?
00:40:38Um. Well, what about the silver for what?
00:40:40Oh, that is another mountain out of the mall hole right there.
00:40:42I'm the one who built the damn vault for Ted.
00:40:45And I'm the only one that had the combination beside him.
00:40:48Right, but why would you bury a vault in the middle of a vacant lot?
00:40:50That's junkie logic for you right there.
00:40:52You get sucked into Ted Binion's world, and everything turns upside down.
00:40:56Okay, I got it!
00:40:58We pretend to bury the silver at my ranch.
00:41:03But in reality, we bury it off the main drag.
00:41:07That way, greedy bitchy bitch Becky can never find it.
00:41:12You see?
00:41:13Whose car's out front?
00:41:15Sweetie, honey, lookie.
00:41:17This is Tabish, uh, Rick.
00:41:20He's gonna be with us around for a while.
00:41:22Scored more dope again.
00:41:27He scored more dope again, didn't he?
00:41:31Hey, didn't I tell you, you lover?
00:41:52You still here?
00:42:04I hope you don't mind, but I made some eggs.
00:42:07I made some for you too.
00:42:09I can't remember a man ever making me breakfast.
00:42:12Yeah?
00:42:14Well, I don't like eating a lot.
00:42:27You're welcome.
00:42:29I want you so much.
00:42:32Do you want me, baby?
00:42:35Hmm?
00:42:39You used to want me all the time, remember?
00:42:43Every day.
00:42:44Yeah, that's all you.
00:42:45I'm going to do it.
00:42:46God, when are you going to stop smoking that stuff?
00:42:49It's destroying you.
00:42:50You are some crazy piece of work.
00:42:53It's not funny.
00:42:57Ugh, just go to bed.
00:42:59God, I'm fine.
00:43:00I'm fine.
00:43:14Teddy!
00:43:18Teddy!
00:43:18It's Rick!
00:43:26Hey, Teddy.
00:43:38Hey.
00:43:40Teddy told me to come by and I showed him plans for the vault.
00:43:44Good for you.
00:43:45Tuesday already?
00:44:01Yeah.
00:44:06Hey.
00:44:12Tuesday already?
00:44:13Yeah.
00:44:14I've got the plans right here for you.
00:44:19Don't freak.
00:44:20Oh, my little fighter!
00:44:23All right.
00:44:25I would take a shower.
00:44:29I'll show you these plans later then?
00:44:30Yep.
00:44:36Don't you feel sorry for me?
00:44:42I'm not the pathetic one here. You are.
00:44:45You're married and you're lusting after your friend's woman.
00:44:48Yeah.
00:44:50I am.
00:44:54Get out.
00:44:55I can't.
00:45:06Yeah.
00:45:07Yeah.
00:45:20Yeah.
00:45:21Oh! Hold it there, fellas. Hold on. Hey, Ted. You want to put the first one in? I'm not about to take my eyes off the lowlifes on your payroll.
00:45:47There are, right? Look at that bar. Smell it. That's the cool metal smell of money. Make you all drunk and horny.
00:46:01Lucky for you, Tabish. You're $40,000 richer just by helping me hide it. Now stack them up. Nice and neat.
00:46:12All right, guys. Let's go. Here. Put it all the way in the corner.
00:46:17You got a bar of silver in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
00:46:32Can I tell you not to disturb me today? Hmm?
00:46:34Is it bothering you that I'm still living with Ted?
00:46:38I'd like to drop him out of a 40-story window on his head.
00:46:46So if you want me to give you a hard time about it, I can do that. No problem.
00:47:06Did you sleep with Mary Jo while you were home?
00:47:11I'm gonna leave her.
00:47:14I bet you Road's 212 a.m?
00:47:20I have a chance you have a good girl.
00:47:22Do you know her mind?
00:47:28I don't have a problem please.
00:47:29Why did you get that?
00:47:48I don't know.
00:47:50My kids like them.
00:47:52Yeah?
00:47:52Think they'll like me?
00:47:59What is this?
00:48:04Richard Tavish and Sandra Murphy, I have a warrant for your arrest for the murder of Ted Binion.
00:48:09All right.
00:48:11Do your jobs.
00:48:11We won't take this personal.
00:48:15Ow!
00:48:16Watch it.
00:48:17This jacket's expensive.
00:48:20House arrest means you do not leave your place of residence except between the hours of 9 and 5,
00:48:26and then only for approved reasons such as doctor visits.
00:48:30Everything else, you have to get permission for.
00:48:32If you go down the street to borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor,
00:48:35you better get permission first because we will know.
00:48:37You got it?
00:48:39You really found the right $8 an hour job for you, didn't you?
00:48:51Where's my panties?
00:48:53When I came in here, I had black lace panties.
00:48:55Did you take them?
00:48:56Can't say I thought of it, no.
00:48:59Well, look.
00:49:01There's no panties.
00:49:03Maybe you weren't wearing any.
00:49:05Maybe I wasn't wearing any.
00:49:06I was wearing this skirt.
00:49:09You think I was wearing a skirt this short without any panties?
00:49:18All right, fine.
00:49:20Keep them, pervert.
00:49:23Sandy, Sandy, how's it feeling?
00:49:24We all know.
00:49:25Bail, please.
00:49:26How's it feeling?
00:49:26Bail, please.
00:49:26Everyone, please.
00:49:27Sandy, what about the trial?
00:49:28Get back, please.
00:49:28I'm going to try.
00:49:29Any comment on the trial?
00:49:31Is this what was signed?
00:49:31Anything on?
00:49:32Everyone back.
00:49:33Back all of you, please.
00:49:35Everyone get back, please.
00:49:36Let me out on bail.
00:49:39Why couldn't you get Rick out?
00:49:40You don't have a criminal record.
00:49:42At least not yet.
00:49:43At least not yet.
00:49:43He does.
00:49:44Oh, what are you, Rick?
00:49:45Hear me?
00:49:46Hear me?
00:49:47Huh?
00:49:51Where's that?
00:49:58There he is.
00:50:00Your own personal bail bondsman.
00:50:02Shut up.
00:50:08You rescued me.
00:50:10Ah, my darling.
00:50:11Not to worry.
00:50:12I consider it a privilege to be taken care of a beauty such as yourself.
00:50:16I won't abandon Rick.
00:50:23Grand larceny?
00:50:24Like a false murder charge isn't enough?
00:50:26They're going after the silver thing?
00:50:28You can't be surprised about that.
00:50:31You told me that my cell phone records proved that I called the sheriff three times a day.
00:50:34Three times.
00:50:35He denies you told him anything about the silver.
00:50:38Well, what does he say we talked about?
00:50:39The weather?
00:50:43What about Lou?
00:50:44Lou, Lou, Lou cannot deny that Ted told me to dig it up.
00:50:56Lou, Lou!
00:50:58Lou, I need a restraining order.
00:51:00Becky's trying to kill me.
00:51:01Becky's trying to kill me.
00:51:02Becky's trying to kill me.
00:51:02No.
00:51:04Look, you can't bring me all the way out here to go through this paranoid crap again.
00:51:09Look.
00:51:10Look!
00:51:10You see those bullet holes?
00:51:12She's trying to kill me.
00:51:13That was last year, baby, and you don't even know if Becky really hired those guys.
00:51:17The hell I don't.
00:51:18I know my sister.
00:51:20The second I'm gone, she's going to...
00:51:21She's going to snatch up my silver and say it was hers.
00:51:26Rick.
00:51:30If I wake up, Dad, the first thing you're going to do is dig up my silver, cash it in, and put it into a truss for Sandy.
00:51:36No, Ted.
00:51:37No, Ted.
00:51:37Not a good idea.
00:51:39I'll ask you!
00:51:40Oh, Sandy.
00:51:57I don't feel so good.
00:52:02Sandy.
00:52:03Sandy, I'm...
00:52:10He's losing it.
00:52:16Keeps talking like he's gonna die.
00:52:18He is.
00:52:21I mean, look at him.
00:52:24He's on his last legs.
00:52:25He's losing it.
00:52:55He's losing it.
00:53:03I don't know.
00:53:11Tavish probably made another request for bail, but it's not gonna happen.
00:53:16That's the DA.
00:53:18Bail sucks.
00:53:22Shh, shh, shh.
00:53:24Very muddy-colored, you know, matte.
00:53:27I think it'll be really good.
00:53:29Will you excuse us for a moment?
00:53:32I'll see you later. I'll be outside.
00:53:37Did you tell them you were going to see your lawyer
00:53:40and you went closed shopping instead?
00:53:42Yeah, so?
00:53:43Do you know what house arrest means?
00:53:46You can't lie to them about where you're going.
00:53:49This is a problem, too.
00:53:52Stop worrying about how you look in the mirror.
00:53:55Start thinking about how you appear to judge and jury.
00:54:08How are you, dear?
00:54:11I want my own lawyer.
00:54:13Greg's driving me crazy acting like he's my father or something.
00:54:18And I already have a nice daddy.
00:54:22So do you like him? Your new lawyer? What's his name?
00:54:27David Daguerre.
00:54:29He's alright.
00:54:31But he already ganged up on me with Greg about my clothes.
00:54:34Why?
00:54:36I'm afraid, Miss Murphy, you have a bit of an image problem.
00:54:42Here.
00:54:43I've changed myself into whatever men want plenty of times.
00:54:47I can change myself into whatever these damn lawyers want.
00:54:55Do you think I should call the trial of the century?
00:54:58I'd say it's a good call.
00:55:00I'm here in front of the Clark Kent.
00:55:01Wait, wait, here she comes.
00:55:04Here she, get her, Bruce.
00:55:06Got her?
00:55:10Sandy, if you were, Sandy. Talk to me, Sandy.
00:55:12Talk to me, Sandy.
00:55:13You don't even look like you.
00:55:17Where?
00:55:19You don't even look like you.
00:55:23I know.
00:55:25What?
00:55:27I know.
00:55:29I know.
00:55:31I know.
00:55:33I know.
00:55:34You don't even look like you.
00:55:43Well, according to some people, that's a good thing.
00:55:46Not to me.
00:55:51When Teddy started to get so bad, why didn't we just run away?
00:55:56Oh, that's right.
00:55:57You couldn't bear to walk away from all that shiny silver.
00:56:01Baby, you know you wanted it, too.
00:56:04All rise.
00:56:08In the matter of the state of Nevada versus Richard Tavish and Sandra Murphy,
00:56:13court is now in session.
00:56:22Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to hear a tale of lust and greed.
00:56:28The evidence will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Ted Minion was murdered.
00:56:32Murdered by someone he trusted and her new lover.
00:56:37Murdered by Sandy Murphy and Rick Tavish.
00:56:40Now, you will hear from witness after witness who will reconstruct for you the days leading up to the crime.
00:56:46From the manicurist who heard Sandy predict Ted's death by overdose.
00:56:50I signed this stupid agreement that says I don't get anything if I leave him.
00:56:55But if he dies, trust me, the way that he uses, he's going to OD.
00:57:00He'll be dead in three weeks.
00:57:01That's when Steve wins having this grand opening party for his new casino.
00:57:09Do you think it'll look bad if I go to something like that after my husband dies?
00:57:12To Rick's high school buddy, Frank Lipionic.
00:57:18A man Rick tried to hire to help him kill Ted.
00:57:21You want me to what now?
00:57:23I want you to help me out the casino guy.
00:57:26Guy I put all the silver on the ground for.
00:57:29He's the one with the hot girlfriend, huh?
00:57:31She's hot.
00:57:32Got her in my bag pocket.
00:57:33The guy bites it.
00:57:35The girl's mine.
00:57:36The silver's mine.
00:57:37And you know me, Frank.
00:57:39I like to share with my friend.
00:57:40Yes.
00:57:41You will meet the physician who prescribed to Ted 120 Xanax tablets.
00:57:45The drug dealer who sold him 12 balloons of black tar heroin.
00:57:50And you will find out exactly what was on Ted's mind the night before he died.
00:57:56And you will hear the chilling words spoken by Ted Binion himself on the very eve of his murder.
00:58:04The private dick I hired got pictures of Sandy at the gym.
00:58:13Kissing on Tavish.
00:58:15Mr. Muscles with his shiny teeth.
00:58:19It's like you said, Lou.
00:58:22You bring a bitch home,
00:58:25the dogs are going to smell her when she's in heat.
00:58:28They're going to sit outside and howl and howl and howl until she lets them in.
00:58:33I want you to take the whore out of my will.
00:58:36But you just put Sandy in your will.
00:58:39And now I'm telling you to take her out.
00:58:42That is, if she doesn't kill me tonight.
00:58:49If I'm dead tomorrow,
00:58:51you know what happened.
00:58:52Well, clearly a lot of excitement here at the courthouse today.
00:58:59The prosecution is expected to call Dr. Michael Badden,
00:59:02the nation's top forensic expert,
00:59:04who also testified at the O.J. Simpson trial.
00:59:07In a controversial move for the prosecution,
00:59:10Dr. Badden's testimony is actually expected to contradict that of the medical examiner.
00:59:14Go on, Dr. Badden.
00:59:16Well, I don't believe that the drug levels in Mr. Binion's system were high enough to cause death,
00:59:22at least not in an attic with a high tolerance.
00:59:25Then how may we ask, did he die?
00:59:27The autopsy photos show the redness of abrasions over his mouth,
00:59:31which to me is a sign of obstruction.
00:59:33Then there were broken blood vessels under his eyes,
00:59:35which indicate, you know, a struggle to breathe.
00:59:39While there were abrasions on his wrist,
00:59:40which suggests being bound,
00:59:42as well as red marks on his chest,
00:59:43which appear to be imprints of buttons,
00:59:46probably by someone who's kneeling on him.
00:59:49I believe he was likely forced to ingest drugs
00:59:51to help incapacitate him.
00:59:54And then he was laid on the floor and suffocated to death.
01:00:01Sandy.
01:00:04I saw their faces.
01:00:06The jury's eating it up.
01:00:08I want to go in the stand.
01:00:10I want to testify.
01:00:11I want to tell them what happened.
01:00:12No.
01:00:13That's asking for trouble.
01:00:15It so happens, I agree.
01:00:17It's not worth the risk.
01:00:18Well, I don't care.
01:00:20I can't just sit there and not do anything
01:00:22when people are saying all this garbage.
01:00:25You know how hard it is just sitting there,
01:00:27feeling helpless,
01:00:28but this is going to go over.
01:00:29It's all right.
01:00:31Everything's going to be okay.
01:00:34You promise?
01:00:36I promise.
01:00:37The defense wants you to believe Ted Minion killed himself.
01:00:52Well, coincidence of coincidences.
01:00:54He killed himself the day Sandy Murphy called the maid
01:00:58and told her not to come into work that day.
01:01:01He killed himself the day before someone emptied a safe out of his antique coin collection.
01:01:06The day before, Rick Tabish tried to make off with $7 million worth of Ted Minion silver.
01:01:11However, the defense also wants you to believe that Rick was at work the morning of September 17th.
01:01:20But consider this.
01:01:23After months of Rick and Sandy calling each other 20, 30 times a day,
01:01:27on that day, there was not a single call between them until late in the afternoon,
01:01:32mere minutes before Sandy reported finding Ted's body.
01:01:34Now, why is that?
01:01:36Why no communication most of the day?
01:01:39Because they were together in Ted Minion's home.
01:01:44Why was Sandy's car parked in the driveway where the gardener says she never parked
01:01:48instead of in the garage where she always parked
01:01:50because Rick's car was hidden in the garage?
01:01:53And inside?
01:01:56Rick and Sandy were tying Ted to a chair
01:01:59and forcing him to drink a deadly cocktail of heroin and Xanax.
01:02:02How do we know?
01:02:03Well, the cocktail was still in his stomach.
01:02:06That was their plan.
01:02:08Make it look like an overdose.
01:02:09They've been planting that idea all over town.
01:02:11Trust me, the way he uses, he's going to OD.
01:02:14He'll be dead in three weeks.
01:02:17And when Ted didn't die fast enough,
01:02:19one of them covered his mouth and his nose with their hands
01:02:22while the other sat on his chest
01:02:23and they suffocated him.
01:02:28Afterward,
01:02:29Rick and Sandy drove to lunch.
01:02:32We know they drove together
01:02:34because Sandy left her purse
01:02:35in Rick's car.
01:02:37Didn't have her keys
01:02:38to get back in the house later.
01:02:41And why did they drive together?
01:02:46Because Rick was already there.
01:02:48He was in the house.
01:02:50He was there to help his lover
01:02:51kill her rich boyfriend
01:02:53so they could steal his silver.
01:02:55and that is what the evidence shows.
01:02:59Beyond a reasonable doubt.
01:03:01I heard your lawyer say
01:03:09that the longer they deliberate,
01:03:10the more likely it's an acquittal.
01:03:12You're kidding, when?
01:03:254.30.
01:03:27Well, then we'll have time to go to Pierre.
01:03:28I was afterward to celebrate.
01:03:29I'll say you in the charge
01:03:38against the defendant, Richard Tavish,
01:03:40for felony larceny
01:03:41and the attempted theft of the silver.
01:03:43Guilty.
01:03:44I'll say you in the charge
01:03:46against the defendant, Richard Tavish,
01:03:48for murder in the first degree.
01:03:50Guilty.
01:03:52I'll say you in the charge
01:03:54against the defendant, Sandra Murphy,
01:03:55for felony larceny
01:03:57and the attempted theft of the silver.
01:03:59Guilty.
01:04:01I'll say you in the charge
01:04:03against the defendant, Sandra Murphy,
01:04:05for murder in the first degree.
01:04:07Guilty.
01:04:08Oh, hell of a hell of a hell of a hell of a hell.
01:04:16You promised me
01:04:18that this wouldn't happen.
01:04:19Well, it's happening.
01:04:20Look, we can appeal.
01:04:22Shut up!
01:04:23Shut up!
01:04:25You lied to me!
01:04:29Hey, thank you.
01:04:30No, no, no.
01:04:30It was justice, not luck.
01:04:32Becky.
01:04:33Yes, go ahead.
01:04:34What do you think Ted
01:04:35would say of the verdict?
01:04:35He would say that the bitch
01:04:37got what she deserved
01:04:38and that she was the meanest,
01:04:40most evil,
01:04:41most devious person
01:04:42that he ever met.
01:04:44Excuse me.
01:04:45What about the allegations
01:04:46that Ted Binion
01:04:47actually abused Ms. Murphy?
01:04:49The only abuse she ever got
01:04:51was $100 bills
01:04:52being thrown right at her.
01:04:54What?
01:04:55Cheers, y'all.
01:04:57Drinks all in the house.
01:04:59It's a good day.
01:05:00It's a day of justice
01:05:00at the horseshoe.
01:05:05So, what does that mean,
01:05:0820 years to life?
01:05:10It means eligibility for parole.
01:05:13It'll come in about 12 years.
01:05:14Oh, my God.
01:05:18Oh, my God.
01:05:30Oh, my God.
01:05:31Sandy.
01:05:32Sandy.
01:05:34This fight isn't over.
01:05:37It was a sloppy trial.
01:05:38We have a half dozen grounds
01:05:39for appeal.
01:05:40Rick asked me
01:05:50to give you this letter.
01:05:52Oh, my God.
01:05:52I'm standing here today
01:05:55in front of Southern Nevada
01:06:08in the women's correctional pursuit.
01:06:09Convicted murderer Sandy Murphy
01:06:11is being transferred today
01:06:12to begin serving...
01:06:13I think that's her, Bruce.
01:06:14Go ahead and start rolling.
01:06:17You got her, Bruce?
01:06:18Yeah.
01:06:18Just hold her tight right there.
01:06:21Miss Murphy,
01:06:21how does it feel
01:06:22to be walking in today
01:06:23knowing you may never walk out?
01:06:24Miss Murphy.
01:06:25Miss Murphy.
01:06:26Just hold her tight, baby.
01:06:27Miss Murphy.
01:06:29Sandy, a few words.
01:06:31Sandy.
01:06:31Sandy.
01:06:31Sandy.
01:06:31I'm here in front of the prison
01:06:44where, after four years,
01:06:46Sandy Murphy is set
01:06:47to be released tomorrow
01:06:48after the Nevada Supreme Court
01:06:50overturned her conviction
01:06:51for the 1998 murder
01:06:52of Ted Binion.
01:06:53In setting aside the conviction,
01:06:55the court cited
01:06:56the prosecution's
01:06:57two theories of death,
01:06:58forced overdose
01:06:58and suffocation,
01:06:59and said that each theory
01:07:01necessarily created
01:07:02a reasonable doubt
01:07:03about the other.
01:07:05Were you surprised
01:07:06by the Supreme Court's decision?
01:07:07Wasn't everybody.
01:07:09I don't know why
01:07:10they want to waste
01:07:11taxpayer money
01:07:11on a new trial.
01:07:13I mean, isn't it something
01:07:14like 90% of retrials
01:07:16end up with the same verdict?
01:07:19And what do you say
01:07:20to Murphy's legions
01:07:21of defenders
01:07:22who are saying
01:07:22you bought the case
01:07:23against her and Tavish?
01:07:25Well, I would say
01:07:26that my daddy always said
01:07:30never get in a pissing contest
01:07:32with a skunk.
01:07:34A skunk in this case
01:07:35would be legendary
01:07:36San Francisco attorney
01:07:37Tony Serra
01:07:38who will join the defense team
01:07:39in the new trial.
01:07:40Mr. Serra,
01:07:41what strengths do you bring
01:07:43to the defense?
01:07:44I'm more than a lawyer.
01:07:46I'm a healer.
01:07:48I open cages.
01:07:49I give freedom,
01:07:52which is healing.
01:08:01Does the suit fit?
01:08:06It's good to see you.
01:08:07And you.
01:08:10It's in the past, Arnold.
01:08:11It's in the past.
01:08:19Sandy?
01:08:25Hey.
01:08:29Oh.
01:08:33Oh.
01:08:36It's so good to see you.
01:08:38It's not like I was far away.
01:08:41I know.
01:08:43World's worst friend.
01:08:45That's me.
01:08:47Not like Ian.
01:08:48I can't believe
01:08:50he kept your apartment for you.
01:08:52Yeah, well.
01:08:53Unlike you,
01:08:54he believed me.
01:08:56But I didn't do it.
01:09:07Sandy.
01:09:10I'm so sorry.
01:09:14It must have been terrible.
01:09:16You seem so different.
01:09:20I know.
01:09:23And I have no idea
01:09:24how to get myself back.
01:09:30And if they put me back in...
01:09:32aren't you a sight for sore eyes.
01:09:55Here we go again.
01:09:56I told you sooner or later
01:10:00things would turn our way.
01:10:01You call four years in prison
01:10:03our way?
01:10:06Yeah, I know why
01:10:07you didn't write me back.
01:10:10I think it was smart
01:10:11to stay quiet
01:10:12and wait till things
01:10:13cooled off.
01:10:16No, I heard they tried
01:10:17to get you to turn against me.
01:10:19Be a witness for the state.
01:10:21I know you didn't do that.
01:10:23All right, boys and girls.
01:10:25It's showtime.
01:10:27You are about to hear a case
01:10:29that is so shaky
01:10:30the Supreme Court
01:10:32could not let the conviction stand.
01:10:35You will find yourself
01:10:36dumbfounded
01:10:37as to why you were here
01:10:38when you were presented
01:10:40with conjecture
01:10:41rather than evidence
01:10:43and allegations
01:10:44rather than proof.
01:10:48I don't know how
01:10:49they got away with it
01:10:50the first time.
01:10:51But
01:10:52we're not letting them
01:10:55get away with it
01:10:55this time.
01:11:02Welcome back to Las Vegas,
01:11:03Mr. Lipionik.
01:11:04Howdy.
01:11:05Now, you testified
01:11:06four years ago
01:11:07that Rick Tabish
01:11:08asked you
01:11:09to help him
01:11:10kill Ted Binion.
01:11:13It would be a convenience
01:11:14if this man just
01:11:15killed over something,
01:11:16but what are you going to do?
01:11:17Really?
01:11:18Yeah.
01:11:20I could parachute
01:11:21in the backyard
01:11:22and take him out
01:11:24like a sniper.
01:11:26I could just walk you
01:11:27right in there
01:11:28and just introduce you
01:11:30and say,
01:11:30here's my buddy, Frank.
01:11:31Ted,
01:11:32just smile and shoot.
01:11:34I've done crazier things.
01:11:35Yes, you have.
01:11:37Hey, Ted.
01:11:38Nice to meet you.
01:11:39Yeah.
01:11:39Good to see you, buddy.
01:11:43Nice to see you, buddy.
01:11:44Are you suggesting
01:11:45that Mr. Tabish
01:11:46was merely joking?
01:11:48Yeah.
01:11:49A little hypothetical fun.
01:11:51That's not how you
01:11:51characterize what happened
01:11:52four years ago.
01:11:54That's because
01:11:55I was told
01:11:56that if I was going to get
01:11:57some of that reward money
01:11:58from the Binions,
01:11:59I'd have to play ball.
01:12:02Talk about a railroad operation.
01:12:04Your Honor,
01:12:05I moved to have
01:12:05Mr. Lipionic
01:12:06declared a hostile witness.
01:12:08So noted.
01:12:09Mr. Serra,
01:12:10you care to cross?
01:12:15I'm curious.
01:12:16Just how much
01:12:17of that reward money
01:12:18did you receive?
01:12:20$20,000.
01:12:24No more questions.
01:12:29And how much
01:12:29of this so-called
01:12:30reward money
01:12:31did you get?
01:12:32$20,000.
01:12:38I received the check
01:12:39for $10,000.
01:12:53Is this medical expert
01:12:55number nine?
01:12:56They could do a montage.
01:12:58Yeah, and they're all
01:12:58saying the exact same things.
01:13:00Not only was the state
01:13:00a little bit wrong,
01:13:01completely.
01:13:03So, in your opinion,
01:13:05Mr. Drummond,
01:13:06this was not
01:13:07an unusual overdose.
01:13:09Actually, Mr. Binion's
01:13:10death was very much
01:13:11a typical overdose.
01:13:13You see,
01:13:1399.9%
01:13:15of all heroin overdoses
01:13:16involve the use
01:13:17of some other drug,
01:13:18usually Xanax.
01:13:20Users take it
01:13:21because it magnifies
01:13:23as the euphoric effects
01:13:24of the heroin.
01:13:25No more questions.
01:13:27No more questions.
01:13:27What?
01:13:41You're not gonna threaten to scratch my eyes out,
01:13:43or run me over with your car,
01:13:45What? You're not gonna threaten to scratch my eyes out or run me over with your car or any of those
01:13:55other classy things you used to love to say to me? You know, Becky, I used to think that you knew as
01:14:01well as I did that Teddy OD'd. I thought you were using it as the excuse to set me up, get me out
01:14:08of the way. But now I realize you were just in denial like every other person who loves a drug
01:14:13addict. Please. Don't even bother. You with your purse full of Teddy silver coins and your boyfriend
01:14:20digging up all the rest. At least I can say I earned it by taking care of Ted. You earned it? My brother
01:14:27plucked you naked off the stage and gave you everything. You took care of me. You know, you
01:14:31lived high on the hog for three years and my brother ended up dead. And now you have the nerve to say to
01:14:36me that you deserve more? I could wreck all over your shoes. I have better things to do with my life
01:14:43and fight with you forever. I said it in the beginning and I will say it again. There was no murder.
01:14:56He died the way countless heroin addicts die of an accidental overdose. Nine medical experts testified to
01:15:06that. And the prosecution witnesses paid. Paid by a wealthy family who didn't want Ted's girlfriend to
01:15:14get the inheritance Ted promised her. So why are we here? Because casino royalty was offended. And in Las Vegas,
01:15:29what casinos want, casinos get. They even get to create a murder out of thin air.
01:15:38Are we really going to let them get away with that again?
01:15:45Hail Caesar.
01:15:47There will be order in this court.
01:15:57Sandy. Sandy.
01:16:02What are you doing in here?
01:16:03You didn't say goodbye after court yesterday.
01:16:05So you noticed.
01:16:09I'm still in love with you. I've been in love with you ever since I first laid eyes on you.
01:16:14Shut up.
01:16:14Look, Sandy. I know we've been through hell together, but when we get through this,
01:16:20I want us to find our way back to each other.
01:16:22You're crazy.
01:16:22No. You're all I've thought about. You're the thing that kept me going.
01:16:27Four years, Sandy. Look, if we don't end up together, then all this misery has been for nothing.
01:16:35I will never be with you again. Never. Are you hearing me, Rick?
01:16:40Rick, there was only one man that I loved, and it wasn't you.
01:16:52Yeah. That's Sarah, dude. He's got me believing she didn't do it. The whole thing was straight up fabricated.
01:16:59Then you're an idiot, because there's no other way to explain how she was in the house at the time Ted died.
01:17:03What do you mean? She explained everything to the cops on the first day.
01:17:07How Ted bought himself all those balloons at Big H?
01:17:09Ted, don't.
01:17:10He's going to town on them.
01:17:11No more. You've been at it all night.
01:17:15Oh, God. Come on, baby, now.
01:17:18Come on. Put that down.
01:17:24Come on. Come on.
01:17:27Come on, baby. Let me just get you to bed, okay?
01:17:32No, I'm thinking that she helped him lie down.
01:17:35Teddy, stop it.
01:17:43Come on, baby.
01:17:48She called the maid, told her not to come in, and wake old Teddy up.
01:17:51She babysat him while he slept.
01:18:00And she went out to get herself some lunch. No idea he was going to croak.
01:18:03Well, then how do you explain all the Xanax in his system?
01:18:05Or the fact that Rick told the cops when he was arrested for doing the silver that he was in the house that day Ted died.
01:18:12Now, Rick and Sandy were there. They forced that Xanax down his throat.
01:18:16I don't think that's what happened.
01:18:18I think Ted probably confronted her about Rick.
01:18:21You two-bit whore.
01:18:26You want to call me names? Fine.
01:18:29Put that down. I'll get you to bed. You can call me all the names you want.
01:18:35I wouldn't touch you.
01:18:37I have to tell her she's put his hand a little over you.
01:18:43Look at you. Look at you.
01:18:45You can't even pretend it's not true.
01:18:48She called Rick, told him.
01:18:50Teddy knows.
01:18:53I don't know.
01:18:55I don't know, but he's so messed up. I don't know what he's going to do.
01:19:00Okay, hurry.
01:19:15How long has he been in there?
01:19:42He's gone.
01:19:43You're not worth the blood stain on the carpet.
01:19:54You're not worth the blood stain on the carpet.
01:20:08Hey, hey.
01:20:12Hey.
01:20:12Teddy.
01:20:13Look. Look who it is. The betrayer.
01:20:17You bring your truck?
01:20:18Teddy.
01:20:18Let's put the gun down.
01:20:19I'm throwing this bitch out.
01:20:21You can keep her.
01:20:22Let's just talk about this.
01:20:23I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!
01:20:24You're gonna talk about this, man.
01:20:25Sam!
01:20:26You're making me nervous standing there like that.
01:20:30Get down.
01:20:31Freaking me out standing there like that.
01:20:32Okay. All right.
01:20:34One.
01:20:35Okay.
01:20:35All right.
01:20:36All right, Teddy.
01:20:46Ain't this nice?
01:20:48Happy little family.
01:20:49Slut.
01:20:58Liar.
01:21:02Pills with your names on them.
01:21:03I'm calling the paramedics.
01:21:05Why?
01:21:06Huh?
01:21:08So I can get arrested for possession?
01:21:12That I will shoot you for.
01:21:14Sit down.
01:21:23Go.
01:21:23Freaking whore.
01:21:39What?
01:21:42You.
01:21:45I thought you was my friend.
01:21:46I am your friend.
01:21:47You're not my friend.
01:21:53How can you seriously think that Sandy was gonna make the call and Ted stopped her?
01:22:05Oh, no.
01:22:06If anything, it was the other way around.
01:22:08I took too much.
01:22:11Plenty.
01:22:15Too much.
01:22:18Please.
01:22:20Call an ambulance.
01:22:22Call.
01:22:23Call the ambulance.
01:22:29Ambulance.
01:22:31What?
01:22:32What?
01:22:33It's possible.
01:22:34No, I don't think that Sandy wanted to watch him die.
01:22:37I think Rick talked her into it.
01:22:43What are you doing?
01:22:45He took the whole bottle.
01:22:45We have to get him to a hospital.
01:22:47No.
01:22:49We don't.
01:22:51Think about it.
01:22:54This could be a good thing.
01:22:57You heard him.
01:22:59He said when he wakes up, he's gonna kick you out and you're gonna have nothing.
01:23:02What if he doesn't wake up?
01:23:10No.
01:23:13Rick, I can't.
01:23:14If he dies this time, this house is yours.
01:23:17No one knows about it.
01:23:22No one knows about it.
01:23:25That could be honest.
01:23:26You better call the maid, tell her not to come.
01:23:38No, you can't pin this all on Tavish.
01:23:39No, you can't pin this all on Tavish.
01:23:53That's why she won't look at Rick anymore.
01:23:55Because he talked her into watching Ted die.
01:23:58He promised her nothing bad would happen.
01:24:00But she believed him.
01:24:13I'll say you on the charge against the defendant, Sandra Murphy, of grand larceny for the felony
01:24:29theft of the silver.
01:24:31Guilty.
01:24:31I'll say you on the charge against the defendant, Sandra Murphy, for murder in the first degree.
01:24:39Not guilty.
01:24:44I'll say you in the charge against the defendant, Richard Tavish, of grand larceny for the felony
01:24:50theft of the silver.
01:24:52Guilty.
01:24:54And I'll say you in the charge against the defendant, Richard Tavish, for murder in the first degree.
01:25:01Not guilty.
01:25:02Defendants are free to go pending sentencing for the date to be determined by the court.
01:25:07This court is adjourned.
01:25:11No more comments.
01:25:16But if I did have a comment, it would be about the damn irony of them saying that I bought a verdict.
01:25:24And they're the ones who spent a truckload on lawyers.
01:25:27Lawyers who kept out key evidence, by the way.
01:25:32Where do you think all that money came from from their case?
01:25:37For my murdered brother's safe.
01:25:41That's worth it.
01:25:47We just want to say that our convictions haven't changed.
01:25:51We know they're guilty.
01:25:55But we have to respect our judicial system, recognize our system, honor it.
01:26:03And it is not up to me to decide they're guilty.
01:26:06I just hope that I get the opportunity to be there for my children before they're grown.
01:26:17Be there with my parents before they're gone.
01:26:20Will I have to go back and do time for the silver charge?
01:26:23With the four years you've already done and your clean record, the judge will have to pronounce you three on time served.
01:26:32Rick won't be so lucky.
01:26:34He'll go back for a couple more years.
01:26:36Thank you for everything.
01:26:42Goodbye.
01:26:43Bye.
01:26:44Take care.
01:26:51Just a couple.
01:26:51All I have to say is that even though I was vindicated today, I didn't win.
01:26:59I still lost four years of my life.
01:27:02And I still lost my man.
01:27:04And I can never get him back.
01:27:09Rick, what about Sandy?
01:27:10I hope she finds happiness in her life.
01:27:16She deserves it.
01:27:26I told you we'd win.
01:27:40You still think she's guilty?
01:27:46The jury says no.
01:27:48What do you say?
01:28:10I'm sorry.
01:28:34So
