00:00One of the greatest challenges in residential houses is to controlling natural lights.
00:17I am Cam Jaan, the principal architect of Ati Cam Associate.
00:29My firm was established in 2009. The portfolio is based on residential and hospitality project.
00:45In this house specifically skylight become an opportunity and a challenge.
00:51While they bring abundance of daylight to managing and diffusing that light
00:57was critical to avoid glares and overheating.
01:08The client had a strong nostalgic attachment to the traditional courtyard house.
01:13Our task is to reinterpret that idea in a compact 500 square yard plot.
01:19It was a big time challenge.
01:20This is the 500 square yard plot and have a corner road.
01:35So, this is the courtyard which we place in the center of the house.
01:44This is facing toward the east.
01:46So, the light moved from the east toward the south.
01:52Around the central courtyard we organized all the functional spaces like kitchen with dining.
02:03And lounge.
02:05And have a master bed.
02:09And the study.
02:10And have a pool view.
02:24Orientation was carefully considered.
02:27The house was positioned to minimize the harsh sunlight while maximizing the comfort.
02:34We use solid surfaces strategically to balance the openness with privacy.
02:44Ensuring that natural light enhances rather than overwhelm the interior.
02:50The house has been designed to allow fresh air circulation from basement all the way up to the first floor.
03:05That eliminates dead spaces which become stagnant, humid and prone to the fungus.
03:11Instead, the home maintains healthy airy environment throughout.
03:28For material, we relied on authenticity and warmth.
03:33Locally available brick facing we used for the exterior.
03:37While for the interior, featured wood with chalk polish to achieve a rustic and timeless look.
03:45These materials ground the project in its culture and regional context.
03:51The spatial organization revolved around the courtyard.
04:02But we introduced subtle variation in levels.
04:05Between floors and richness and depth within the footprint.
04:10This layering of space enhanced both functionality and experience.
04:15Ultimately, this project is not just about creating a home.
04:27It's about balancing memory and modernity.
04:32Tradition and innovation.
04:34Environmental responsibility and architectural expression.
04:39These are the questions that continue to drive my work after more than two decades in practice.
04:48in жизни.
