Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall has unveiled its biggest and most colourful pumpkin harvest to date – celebrated with the potentially record-breaking jumbo mosaic.

The annual pumpkin harvest is a tradition born six years ago when pumpkins were found unexpectedly growing on the elephant muck heap after the Zoo’s bachelor group of African elephants enjoyed the seasonal treats as part of their enrichment programme.

From those first surprise sprouts, a dedicated pumpkin patch was created, using elephant poo as a unique fertiliser.

00:00I'm Larry Bush and I'm the director of Noah's Ark Zoo Farm. The pumpkin harvest is something we
00:23love. It actually all came kind of out of an accident that we discovered pumpkins growing
00:29on the elephant poo pile and we realized that the seeds had passed through the elephants and
00:35kind of self-propagated and we had a sort of homegrown organic pumpkin patch and so it's
00:41something we've built on over the years and now we use the elephant poo as fertilizer for what's
00:47a kind of growing pumpkin patch that gets bigger every year. Well this year we've created something
00:53really special a giant pumpkin mosaic so we drew a massive outline of an elephant on the
01:01ground right by the pumpkin patch and with the help of the team from Albert Goodman we created
01:06this incredible patchwork elephant inspired by Elmer the elephant and you can see all the
01:13different gourds were used as patches and it was huge we had 11,000 pumpkins and gourds making
01:20up this giant mosaic. So all of the pumpkins and gourds that we made to create the mosaic have now
01:25all come here to the farm shop and you can see them all on display and there's so many different
01:31varieties for cooking with for decoration so all the gourds and pumpkins are here and there's also
01:38a free pumpkin patch so you can come you can bring the kids we've got wheelbarrows of all sizes and you
01:44can choose your favorite pumpkin for carving with or for taking home and enjoying at home. This
01:50autumn we're running a great special offer that if you visit Noah's Ark before the end of October
01:55you can come back for just one pound right the way through to the end of 2025.
