00:00In this video, you're going to see the cheapest and most expensive buffets here in Bangkok, Thailand.
00:07These two buffets we're going to go to are very different.
00:09The first one costs, you won't believe this, $1.41.
00:14The second costs almost 60 times that amount, over $80.
00:18There's going to be a huge difference in quality, types of ingredients, types of foods, and the amount of selection in each buffet.
00:23First thing we're going to do is go to the cheap buffet and see what they got.
00:26Let's move.
00:27Right here is Auntie Roy Buffet.
00:31This is the most inexpensive buffet I've seen anywhere, and so I was wondering how they do it.
00:43Before I saw the food, I thought it must have no meat, it must all be just tofu and plants, but no.
00:48They have over a dozen dishes here, a lot of different food, but a lot of meat too.
00:52It is 10.27 right now, and this place is getting busy behind me very quickly.
00:55Mostly, you're going to see a lot of drivers coming here, people who drive taxis, people who ride for grabs.
01:00It's an easy place to pull off the road, grab a big plate of food.
01:02People are not shy about the amount of food they're grabbing.
01:04It actually used to cost only 35 baht, now it's 50 baht, which is still ridiculously cheap.
01:09So right here, you can grab your own plate, spoon, fork, and they have a couple of rice options off the bat.
01:15A white rice, and then this looks tremendous.
01:18They've got a delicious looking veggie fried rice.
01:20I'm going to take a decent sized scoop.
01:22Oh, she's adding some chilies right now to the fish sauce.
01:24That looks very spicy.
01:26Right here is the main section.
01:28They have 12 different trays full of different food options.
01:32This looks like a minced stir-fried fish with tons and tons of seasonings.
01:36I would tell you the local name, but I'm just going to say it wrong anyways.
01:39Here we have some bamboo shoots.
01:40Oh my gosh, there's chilies on everything.
01:42It is not just bamboo shoots.
01:43It looks like they have some small muscles.
01:45Unlike me, I have big muscles.
01:47That's what my wife tells me.
01:48Here we have liver and intestines with green beans.
01:50These are all from the chicken.
01:53Oh, is that an eyeball?
01:54Very nice.
01:55The last thing I want to show you.
01:56She is frying something here.
01:57Dumping it into this sieve.
01:58So people are eating it.
01:59It's running out right here.
02:00They cook more.
02:01And this goes on until 3 p.m.
02:03We have our food.
02:03We have round one.
02:04Let's go find a table.

02:08I am looking forward to this fried rice because it looks fantastic.

02:12They put very thin strips of the kaffir lime leaf in there.
02:15So it has a little bit of that fresh limey citrusy flavor.

02:18When I saw this fish, I thought it was pork.

02:27It's very nice.
02:28There's turmeric and a lot of chilies.
02:30They're super spicy.
02:31I'm regretting right now that I don't have anything to drink.
02:33Oh, I gotta drink some of this soup.
02:37Thailand is so brutal.
02:38I tried to cool down the spice with more spice.
02:40This is almost like a greasy broth.
02:42You can see the eye still.
02:43I'm gonna peel the skin right off of the head.
02:45Oh.
02:45I didn't know what to expect, but this is a very nice soup.
02:50Also very sour.
02:51Like many soups in Thailand.
02:53Very delicious.
02:54All the flavors of everything I've had, very different from each other.
02:56I'm like going to Taco Bell.
02:58Do you want Taco Bell?
02:58Same flavor, different shapes and textures.
03:01I got a new plate, but you're not supposed to do that.
03:03They just use the same plate here.
03:04This is a bean sprout salad with some mushrooms, carrots, cut up beans.
03:08We'll get a little bit of that.
03:08This is what I'm really looking forward to right here.
03:10These are glass noodles.
03:12Looks like they're stir fried with tons of veggies inside.
03:14They look super delicious.
03:15Here they have some deep fried fish.
03:17This is what we saw being fried up earlier.
03:19I can even feel it from the spoon, how crispy it is.
03:21And it looks like some basil fried up too.
03:23And right here, this is a curry with pumpkin and chicken.
03:26That looks awesome.
03:27That should probably go with rice, but instead I'm just going to get it all over my other food.
03:31Round two and already.
03:32After this, I will try over half of the foods here.
03:35First off, we have the bean sprout salad.
03:37I like it.
03:38Very simple, wet and earthy like bean sprouts.
03:40But a very welcome crunch and even more welcome fiber.
03:43This is those fried fish.
03:44So they look like little mini sardines, little bait fish.
03:47This is usually what I would use for fishing.
03:49But that doesn't mean you can't fry it up and have it be delicious.
03:51I don't know.
03:53It tastes like a french fry, but way more calcium and protein.
03:56These are so addictive.
03:59And then this.
04:00Oh my gosh.
04:01Fried basil.
04:02Why is this not a thing?
04:03In more places around the world.
04:04It's one of my favorite things in Thailand.
04:07The flavor pops.
04:08The leaf dissolves in your mouth.
04:09Very good.
04:10Next food right here, we have the pumpkin and chicken.
04:12Pumpkins looking very nice and pumpkin-y.
04:14Throw it back with some chicken.
04:16Chewing cautiously in case of bones, because we are in Southeast Asia.
04:20You never know when they just hacked up a bird with a friggin' axe.
04:22That piece was mostly bone-free.
04:24This is delicious.
04:26Sweet coconut curry, starchy pumpkins, and nice big chunks of chicken.
04:30This is what a buffet looks like for $1.41 here in Bangkok.
04:34It's really an incredible value.
04:35The food is fresh.
04:36It's interesting.
04:36It's creative.
04:37It's diverse.
04:37And you still get some protein.
04:38It's not some, you know, hey, it's $1, but it's vegan food.
04:41Uh-huh.
04:42It's a head of lettuce.
04:43I'm very impressed, but we are not finished.
04:45We are heading to another buffet, a buffet that is about 60 times more expensive.
04:49But are they going to have 60 times the options, 60 times the fun, the flavor?
04:53Next, we are headed to the Marriott.
04:55One buffet down, one to go.
04:57Right behind me, the Marriott.
04:58But not just any Marriott.
05:00This is the Marriott Marquis in Bangkok.
05:02Is it Marquis or Marquis?
05:04Uh, is that French?
05:05Spanish?
05:06What's Marquis?
05:06This Marriott has one of the most expensive buffets you're going to find anywhere in Thailand
05:10or Southeast Asia, period.
05:12Over $83.
05:14There are hundreds of foods to choose from, so you cannot eat everything.
05:17You really have to prioritize and pick your favorites so you don't miss out.
05:21That is not unlimited all-you-can-eat-for-all-day.
05:23That is all you can eat for two and a half hours.
05:26I mean, it seems like it should be enough.
05:28But I mean, if you're like me, I'm like a grazing animal.
05:30I want to eat from morning to night if I can.
05:32Sneaking to the bathroom, watch an episode of Seinfeld, come back, continue eating, but
05:37no.
05:43Welcome inside.
05:44I am going to say this is one of the most extravagant, beautiful, glorious, gigantic
05:48buffets I've ever seen in my life.
05:55Right off the bat, I got meat right here.
05:59Hello, sir.
06:00Can I have some pork belly, please, and lamb rack, and, oh, God, prime rib or beef rump,
06:05and prime rib, please.
06:07This is a high-pressure situation.
06:08He's already got the pork belly on here.
06:12There we go.
06:13Oh, my gosh.
06:13Look at all this meat.
06:14And beef rump.
06:15I just got it all.
06:16I can't help it.
06:16Right here, you have all the sides.
06:18Pepper sauce, lamb, jus, mushroom sauce, any kind of flavor combinations you want with your
06:23meat.
06:23I'm going to grab some of this and head to the table.
06:25All right.
06:25We have our first course right here.
06:27I'm always starting with the meat because that is how you get your money's worth.
06:31I love the selection of meats they have here.
06:33This is a fat, crunchy piece of pork belly with some sweet soy sauce.
06:41So juicy, crunchy, incredible texture on there.
06:44Here, this is the lamb chop.
06:45Super soft, tender, moist, still warm from the grill.
06:51Oh, dear Lord.
06:53One of the best pieces of meat I've had at any buffet ever.
06:55That beautiful, natural, lamby flavor just rot out without a ton of spices.
06:59It's just some simple salt.
07:00I'm not sure what else they put on there, but maybe almost nothing.
07:02This is some beef prime rump.
07:05I think it was just called.
07:06Wait, is that a real cut?
07:07I'm getting a little soy sauce mixed with some mushroom.
07:09A little east meets west here.
07:12Mushroom with a little bit of sweet soy sauce.
07:13That actually works somehow.
07:14The prime rump or prime, wait, prime rib?
07:17Oh, it's prime rib and beef rump.
07:20Even more than prime rib or beef rump.
07:22Most guys are looking for some prime rump, but you're not going to find that at this buffet.
07:27One more bite.
07:28Some soy sauce, some mushroom sauce.
07:31Very nice.
07:32I am going to eat as much as I can in the next two hours.
07:34That's all I have is two hours.
07:36That was round one.
07:37Right now, I am in search of round two, and there are so many options.
07:41Right here, you can get a shabu shabu.
07:43You're going to be able to cook all this meat in these broths.
07:46They also have a ton of mushrooms to choose from as well.
07:49Then this is the hot and sour soup with seafood.
07:51I'm pretty sure that's just tam yum, but they put it in English so we know what the heck it is.
07:55Right here, you can see a giant line of people.
07:57This is how you know this is where I got to be right now.
07:59This is the grilled seafood, and they have some giant prawns.
08:03This is where you can start making back some ground on all that money you spent, but you're
08:07also going to waste a lot of time.

08:12They have an assembly line.
08:14It starts down there with the raw shrimp, and as it cooks, it moves down, and then he
08:18toasts it right at the end.
08:19Boom, we got a fresh batch right here.
08:23I've got my shrimp now.
08:24It's not enough for a whole round.
08:26I'm going to show you some of the other sections they have.
08:28Right behind me is the dim sum.
08:30Now, what they do is they have these cute small plates, but if you're smart...

08:36Here we have some hap gow, then some shumai.
08:39Shumai's looking a little busted.
08:40Let's try it.

08:41I don't even know how this works.

08:45Okay, I asked some people who know what the hell is going on.
08:47Thanks, guys.
08:48That is some beautiful fish filet.
08:51This is the famous Iberico ham.
08:54Looks like a bear took a bite out of that leg.
08:56This whole leg costs hundreds of dollars, at least.
09:00Round two.
09:01I got to say, the only thing that sucks is that this took 17 minutes.
09:04Just to acquire...
09:05We are starting with these shrimp.
09:06These are river prawns.
09:08And in Thailand, they get huge.
09:10Get some of that head butter.
09:11I'm going to dip it in this sauce.
09:13It might be better than lobster.
09:15This is very tender.
09:16It's got that fatty orange part here.
09:18This is the part that's going to get thrown away almost anywhere you go in the USA.
09:22That here is what folks love.
09:23And it adds just a really deep, rich, smoky flavor.
09:27The sauce is so delicious.
09:29It's spicy.
09:29It's light.
09:30It's aromatic.
09:30It's citrusy.
09:31It is a perfect combination for really any type of seafood.
09:34Right here is the iberico ham made from that whole freaking leg of a little porky pork.
09:40It doesn't have a flavor where you go, oh, that's why that's expensive.
09:44It's very satisfying.
09:45I love it.
09:45But I also love pepperoni from Quick Trip.
09:47Probably just as much.
09:47I'm letting my white trash side come out a little bit.
09:49At the dim sum station, I found this guy right here.
09:52It's probably a steamed sea bass.
09:55Oh, that's delicious.
09:56The fish is very tender.
09:57It's sweet, salty.
09:58It has some mushroom flavor and onion flavor.
10:00And that is the perfect one biter.
10:02The hot gau is looking pretty good.
10:03I'm going to put that in the chili oil.
10:07Um, acceptable.
10:08Okay, let's try the shumai.
10:10They say whoever folds the shumai, they don't even let you touch this stuff until you've been
10:13watching this chef do it for years on end.
10:14This guy took a weekend course, perhaps.
10:16It's not the best looking dim sum I've ever seen.
10:18Yeah, it's okay.
10:22So, it tastes like one level above gas station dim sum.
10:24To be fair, 7-Eleven has some very good dim sum in Thailand.
10:27It's hard to nail everything.
10:28When you have this many foods, you've got to specialize in a handful of things.
10:33They just ran out of foie gras, so the gentleman back here is cooking up a load of it.
10:37Then I have my spy camera.
10:38Enhance.
10:39Enhance.
10:40Enhance.
10:41Enhance.
10:42Wait, that's not looking enhanced at all.
10:43That looks like sh**.
10:44And it's it with a glaze, and that is ready to go.
10:50I should do this, but these people right here, I just saw them get a burger.
10:54Why would you get a burger?
10:55There's every food here.
10:56I think it's a chicken burger, which is the worst kind of burger.
10:59This is like a snack between rounds.
11:01This is the foie gras.
11:05So juicy.
11:05You can look inside.
11:07It's very, very soft, fatty, buttery, tender, and all those nice words.
11:10Fatty, jiggly, sweet.
11:15That's what it says on my Tinder profile.

11:20Now that we've had about three different rounds of food, let's take a look at some of the stations we have missed so far.
11:24There's no way I'm going to be able to eat everything, so let's see what could have been.
11:28Welcome to the white asparagus station.
11:30Here, they've got white asparagus.
11:33Here, I would call this miscellaneous meats.
11:36They've got meatballs, baked chicken, they've got stuffed confit, a little bit of everything.
11:40You saw this already.
11:41This is the dim sum, and this whole area is Chinese-related.
11:44We've had stir-fried fish moth.
11:46That is the air bladder of the fish.
11:48You can see it right here.
11:49Then they also have some cooking duck.
11:52Island oysters.
11:53I didn't know they had oysters over there.
11:54Good for you guys.
11:55The oyster bar with oysters from Thailand, from France, all over the place.
11:59The only problem is I'm 50-50 on oysters.
12:02I'm not going to eat any oysters today.
12:03I'm good with the foie gras.
12:04Can I order eight of these?
12:06I wasn't going to do it, but they have all these different oysters.
12:09I've tried all the Vietnamese oysters.
12:10I'm going to try the Thai one now and see what I think.
12:13There's noodle soup with wagyu, beef slices, and a beef stew.

12:18I get to pick my noodle.
12:19So they put everything in the basket right here, which is beautiful.
12:22Let that boil up.
12:24She's giving me a couple different meatballs.
12:26I'm going to flanch up some of this beef.
12:30And then this is a bunch of stewed beef and tendon.
12:33It looks amazing.
12:35Here is the broth.
12:37Right here we have round number four.
12:39This is what's so fun about doing these buffets.
12:41When else would you have a Chinese soup and a Thai oyster?
12:45When else would you have a Chinese soup and a Thai oyster together at the same time in the same meal?
12:49Of all the fancy things I've had today, that is one of the best bites.
12:54Super braised beef that's just been boiling and boiling for hours.
12:57This is that nice tendon.
12:59Now, in my recent video, I was in Singapore's Chinatown complex and I had a whole plate full of tendons.
13:03And I kept saying that they have so much fat.
13:05And then you guys let me know that actually, this, no fat, it's basically all protein.
13:09I'm getting swole for summer.
13:10Let's go.
13:15This bowl is delicious from head to toe.
13:17Oh, I love it so much.
13:18And then you've got this.
13:19I'm going to slap up some of the seafood sauce, a little bit of chili sauce, a little bit of fried shallots.
13:26The woman filming me right now is Thai and she was just like, nailed it.
13:31I'm not an oyster boy.
13:38That is pretty undeniable.
13:39Very nice seafood flavor.
13:40Balance that with some of the seafood sauce, the chili sauce, and then a little bit of texture with the fried shallots.

13:48Behind me, you can see the dessert section.
13:50They have over 50 desserts alone.
13:52If you just focused on dessert, you could not even try half of them.
13:56One mango sticky rice, please.

14:00And then this is what ties it all together.
14:03A sweet coconut cream.
14:04It is like frosting from the jungle.
14:07We have our final round.
14:08This is my favorite dessert in all of Southeast Asia.
14:10Coconut cream, rice, mango.
14:13And these nuts.
14:15Oh, it's very nice.
14:16First of all, the coconut cream, it's like the convergence of coconut milk and evaporated milk.
14:22Together.
14:23And then mango.
14:24This is why I love Southeast Asia.
14:25Fresh, ripe, super sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
14:28How many times have you gotten mango in the Midwest and it tastes like gasoline for some reason?
14:32Well, this one does not.
14:33This one tastes like diesel.
14:34For 80 bucks, you could probably come close to getting your money back, but then you just have to be eating foie gras the whole time.
14:40I say, when you're here, try a little bit of everything and take your time.
14:43I've had two buffets today.
14:44I need a nap soon.
14:45But first, I need to tell you which buffet I think gave me the most bang for my buck.

14:51Today, I've gone to the cheapest and most expensive buffets you will find in Bangkok, Thailand.
14:56Now, I had to decide which one gave me the most bang for my buck, which is really tough to do.
15:00Obviously, both very cool in their own way.
15:02I love that there is a buffet that exists out there in reality that is less than $2, and you can try over a dozen different foods.
15:08But I also love the Marriott's buffet.
15:10There's so many different options to choose from.
15:11I would say, if I had to pick one to go to again, I feel guilty saying this, but I'd go back to the Marriott.
15:18Now, that's not to say that I didn't love the first location.
15:21It's a very cool place if you want to not pay very much money, but get to try a lot of different Thai foods.
15:26But Marriott, I mean, come on, they had prime rump.
