00:00Oh my god, this is scary.
00:02It smells quite crazy, actually.
00:04But I'm gonna do it for the views.
00:06Okay, I can do this.
00:09This is $10 dining, where we go to a random city
00:12and try to do a whole day of eating for under $10.
00:18This is Twit.
00:19She and I already tried eating some of the world's most expensive food.
00:22Whoa!
00:25But now, it's time she goes out on her own.
00:28It's been open for three generations.
00:30Hunting down the best food deals around her country of Vietnam.
00:34Oh my god, look at this.
00:36The budget is tight.
00:37It's really black.
00:38And the odds are stacked against her.
00:40Thank you, Sunny, so much for giving me $10.
00:42I mean, maybe a little bit more next time.
00:45So, can she pull it off? Let's find out.
00:47Saigon, Saigon, Saigon, Vietnam.
00:50I have to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner for under $10.
00:54I'm a little worried because it's a Thai budget,
00:57but at the same time, I'm quite confident
00:59because there is food in every single corner of the city.
01:02And there is also a lot of affordable, cheap, delicious street food as well.
01:06So, let's see if I can do it. Let's go!
01:08Our first location, or her first location, this banh mi shop.
01:17The banh mi is one of Vietnam's most famous food exports.
01:20Personal-sized baguette bread stuffed with goodies.
01:23But here, they're putting a dark twist on this age-old classic.
01:27Mr. Hu is the third generation in his family running the small-scale banh mi factory.
01:35Wow, that's crazy!
01:36Yeah!
01:37What brought us here is his latest creation, his new activated charcoal sandwich.
01:42Okay, so he said it's gonna have this smell of black charcoal, and also it has a slight sweetness.
01:48I'm very excited to try.
01:49When I eat this, I'm gonna get any health benefits.
01:52That's right.
01:53He's gonna Google the health benefits for us.
01:57Wrong!
01:58Before it hit the food scene, activated charcoal was already being used medically to treat certain overdoses.
02:04It's actually not very different from making the usual banh mi.
02:08When combined with food, some folks insist that it can detox your body, improving your skin, and even whitening your teeth.
02:15Right now, they are doing a very violent massage, and he just slapped really hard the doughs.
02:21You know, like you hate it.
02:22And they would roll it, and the cool thing is, they do it for so long that they all equal it.
02:27This is amazing, because I cannot do that.
02:30With some sesame seeds on top, the dough is left to get some rest for an hour, before it's ready to get baked, man.
02:36This resting process is called proofing, and you can also get baked before trying this bread.
02:45It's really black, but the size is normal.
02:50Oh my god, look at this, inside out.
02:53Smell from the charcoal, and also the sesame seed.
02:56Mmm, do you see it?
02:59It's good.
03:00It's good.
03:01It's good, right?
03:02I agree.
03:03The bread is not so dense.
03:04It has this airy texture.
03:05But when you eat it, yes, I can taste the sweetness.
03:08Really, really nice.
03:11The black banh mi is stuffed with Vietnamese shu mai, some dreaded cucumber, and delicious pickles.
03:16Herbs, cha su pork, and finally, their homemade red sauce to tie it all together.
03:21Today, I'm very excited because it's my first black choco banh mi.
03:37Aside from being a best ever guest host on this channel, Chuyin also specializes in being the slowest food chewer on the planet.
03:44Very cool.
03:45Wow.
03:47The flavor of the pork, it's just so delicious and so tender.
03:50The sour from the pickle, and also all of the herbs that actually make it very, very easy to eat.
03:56So compared to the normal banh mi, I cannot really taste much of a difference.
04:00But again, maybe a little bit of sweetness still.
04:03The owner said earlier that once he had this, he just like, you know, ditched the normal banh mi completely.
04:08So yeah, once you go black, you can never go back.
04:12I agree.
04:15Our second $10 dining dish, oil shower fried chicken and rice.
04:19We are here with Mr. Tuong, which is the owner of the place.
04:23In Chiang An.
04:24Fried chicken is everywhere in Vietnam, but no one is doing it quite like this.
04:28As you can see here, I have some awesome machines going on.
04:31Mr. Tuong fell in love with machinery as a child.
04:35It seemed there was no problem the right gadget couldn't fix.
04:38Even the challenge of making the perfect fried chicken.
04:41I don't know.
04:42I don't know.
04:43I'm the owner of the kitchen.
04:44I don't know.
04:45I'm the owner of the kitchen.
04:46Yeah.
04:47One time he went to a restaurant, he saw that people actually deep-fried the chicken
04:52and not actually shower in the hot oil.
04:55So he said, okay, I'm going to make a machine and solve all of the problems.
04:59This contraption resembles a commercial dishwashing machine.
05:05But instead of hot water, it's frayed boiling hot oil from above, showering the chicken beneath.
05:10I taxed him 18 years to make this machine, but he told me that he quit it three times already.
05:16And he only made it till the fourth time.
05:18This is oil-showered chicken, and it's only one of this mad food scientist's creations.
05:23Later on, when he opened this restaurant, he also needed a person who stir-fry the rice.
05:28And he's like, okay, why not just make a machine?
05:31They're going to do it by itself.
05:33Tired of tending to your fried rice?
05:35Now, you don't have to.
05:37This device uses a mechanized revolving blade to continuously stir the rice about,
05:42with no assistance needed from humans.
05:45Well, maybe a little.
05:47It's a work in progress.
05:49So the key idea here is he's going to keep the moisture of the chicken and the rice still inside,
05:55while the outside is very crispy.
05:58A few steps away from the kitchen, and I am here in the middle of the alley.
06:02Also, some bites going around.
06:04But I'm here enjoying my chicken rice for lunch.
06:08Firstly, oil.
06:11Let's be real.
06:12But can you hear it?
06:14Wow.
06:15Break it apart.
06:17Come right out.
06:18I'm going to try this part right here.
06:20The skin.
06:23It cannot be crispier.
06:25This is amazing.
06:26This meat right here.
06:27Let's see if it's juicy like he said.
06:31Oh my god, it's true.
06:32One of the best chicken shower in the hot oil that I ever had.
06:36Super crispy on the outside.
06:37And on the inside, it's still very moist and juicy and tender as well.
06:41Is it a little crazy to say this machine makes better fried rice and fried chicken than humans?
06:46A little cruel, but it's true.
06:48Now let's try this.
06:49I'm going to put the chicken on top of the rice.
06:51I learned this from Sonny.
06:57After two meals, Twin still has over half her money remaining.
07:01As the one funding this risky series, I am very happy.
07:05But let's see if she can stay under budget with her final meal of the day.
07:09Oh my god.
07:10Wow.
07:11That is just delicious.
07:13This video is one tasty treat for Twin.
07:16Many of these unique yum-yums have never been seen by outsiders before, including her dinner.
07:22Okay, so the sun is going down and I'm also at our last stop today right here in this cart.
07:28It's a big noodle.
07:30Wow, you guys.
07:31I feel very special right now because it's been open for three generations and they serve only this dish.
07:37Upon first glance, it looks like any other noodle soup.
07:40A stringy carbohydrate in a bowl of ocean fish fillet.
07:43Nothing could go wrong, right?
07:45Wrong.
07:46Except that they serve it with this, fish stomach.
07:49As a Vietnamese, it's true that we eat many parts of the fish, but I never have fish stomachs before.
07:55People eat the stomach mainly because of the chewy, crunchy texture that it has.
08:02And she said this dish is originally from a province in China, as we are in Chinatown right now in Vietnam.
08:08Chinatown, a potluck of diverse, delicious street food, all found in one place featuring classics and some rather unexpected food fair.
08:20This is a very unique fish soup, actually. I can smell a lot of it right now from the broth.
08:25This rare delicacy is a combination of bread noodles.
08:28Compared to other noodle dishes in Vietnam, it's super thin, like me. Skinny.
08:33Fish meat and a pork broth made with pork bones, ginger, cabbage and scallions.
08:40We all know that the fish smell can be a lot to some people, and that is why they put ginger in the broth.
08:46It actually soothes the fishy smell and taste, you know?
08:49I see fish egg, fish ball as well, fish filet, and then here is some fish stomach.
08:56Oh my god, it looks absolutely crazy, absolutely nuts.
09:01And of course our noodle, super thin.
09:09Because it's very thin, it kind of melts in your mouth, you don't have to chew as much like some other noodles.
09:15This one, I did like one, two.
09:17Yay!
09:18Try the meat.
09:22This is actually coming from an ocean fish.
09:24The taste is quite strong, but at the same time, it's soft, it's tender, but it doesn't fall apart when I chew it.
09:32Fish egg.
09:33It looks absolutely crazy.
09:35Like an alien, kind of mutant sea urchin, small version.
09:38Mmm, so it has this nutty taste.
09:43You can feel it, this texture of thousands of tiny little fish eggs, but it's quite fun.
09:49This crazy moment is here, I'm quite scared.
09:53So this fish stomach, I never have it in my entire life.
09:56It smells quite crazy actually, but I'm gonna do it for the views.
09:59Wait, I need a second.
10:10If you don't eat fish often, then I don't think it's a good choice for you.
10:14The fish taste is very, very strong.
10:16The texture is crunchy.
10:18When you chew it, you actually hear...
10:22Wow, it's out there.
10:23But I think I like it and I would come back for this just because they only have one cart like this in the whole Vietnam.
10:30And this is such a good experience for me because I never had this dish ever before.
10:36So you guys, we made it.
10:38I mean, we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner and the total is actually $6.99.
10:47I made it!
10:48I'm gonna pick one of my favorites and my choice would be the first location.
10:54It's a very nice upgraded version of the iconic banh mi that we are very used to in Vietnam.
11:00It's only cost me $1.30.
11:03Very, very delicious, affordable breakfast.
11:07Merge alert!
11:08This is for all you head-to-tail adventurous eaters.
11:11Always down for trying something new.
11:13No waste, more taste.
11:15Only available to the end of March.
11:16So you guys, this is for this one.
11:18I really hope that you enjoyed it.
