00:13R. Vikneswaran pleaded guilty before Magistrate Anis Hanini Abdullah on Thursday to driving
00:20without due care and attention at the KTM Ipoh station compound around 2.54 a.m. on October
00:275. He was charged under Section 43, subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries
00:36a fine of 5,000 to 10,000 ringgit, up to 12 months jail or both. Deputy Public Prosecutor
00:43Amal Azima Abdkohar urged the court to impose the maximum penalty, noting that the incident
00:49caused extensive damage to seven vehicles and occurred in a public area. Vikneswaran, who
00:55was unrepresented, appealed for leniency, saying he is the sole breadwinner for his family,
01:01supporting two school-going children and elderly parents. The court fined him 8,000 ringgit in
01:08default two months jail and ordered the offence to be recorded on his driving licence. He paid
01:13the fine. Case facts showed he lost control of the van and crashed into six parked vehicles
01:19and his own company van. Ipoh OCPD Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said
01:26the driver lost control while turning into a junction. No injuries were reported and he tested negative
01:32for drugs. Videos of the damaged cars have since gone viral on social media.
