00:00Welcome to An Art Once Lost Now Remembered, where words, colors, and images come together
00:14to tell the story of civilizations. Today we step into the timeless world of Omar Khayyam's
00:21Rubaiyat and its deep connection with Persian art. Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat is a timeless
00:29treasure of Persian literature, a collection of quatrains, Rubai, that blends sensuality,
00:36existential wonder, and lyrical grace. Though attributed to the 11th century polymath,
00:43an accomplished astronomer, mathematician, and poet, many verses were gathered after his death.
00:51We will explore into the luminous world of Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat, as interpreted by Edward
00:58Fitzgerald's famously evocative English translation and brought to life through the sumptuous
01:03illustrations of Edmund Dulac. As you turn these pages, allow the interplay of word and image to
01:10guide you, pause where the brushstroke catches a flicker of starlight on a wineglass, or where
01:15the curvature of a vine leaf cradles the skeleton of time. Here the Rubaiyat becomes a living garden,
01:23each quatrain a bloom, each illustration a ray of colour, inviting the reader into a space where
01:29earthly joys and cosmic mysteries entwine. Let this introduction serve as your lantern,
01:36illuminating the path through Khayyam's quatrains, Fitzgerald's rich cadence,
01:41and Dulac's visual poetry. Thank you for joining us. Subscribe for more tales where art and history
01:50unfold. And as Khayyam reminds us, in verse soft and bright, drink deep of the moment,
01:59for life is but light.
