00:00We're here at the Longhouse in Holsworthy where they're celebrating their 10th anniversary.
00:05Come inside as we have a look around, talk to the team and find out what's been going on in the last 10 years.
00:15I think the community should be really proud because whilst we do get some statutory NHS
00:20funding to provide our care, none of the care that comes out of Longhouse is statutory funded.
00:25It is all charitably funded, so in many ways this is not North Devil Hospice's Longhouse, it is the community's.
00:34I coordinate the complementary therapies, so here we offer a massage, reflexology,
00:41aromatherapy sessions to both patients and carers to help with symptoms, to help with that stress,
00:49the tension and just allow them some time to relax.
00:55I'm one of the counsellors here, so I speak with people here one to one.
00:59Sometimes we know that there's a need for a therapeutic group, might be a larger group of
01:05patients that we have who could really do with a group in which they can all speak together and
01:10support one another, but have a safe holding place where they can talk about their experiences
01:15and feelings and so on. Other times we run creative groups and sometimes it's simply a matter of people
01:23having a space where they can come together socially and talk with one another freely and easily in a
01:28place that's quite safe.
