Actor Jake Cuenca admits break-up with actress girlfriend difficult

Actor Jake Cuenca admits that his break-up with actress Chie Filomeno was a difficult experience — made even harder by his hectic schedule, which left him to face it alone. Cuenca currently plays Miguelito Guerrero in 'FPJ’s Batang Quiapo' and is gearing up for two major projects: the action film 'The Delivery Rider' with Baron Geisler, and the ABS-CBN drama-thriller 'What Lies Beneath.'

00:00What is it?
00:02What is it?
00:06Then Sunday lang talaga ako nakakapagpahinga.
00:08Siyempre I wasn't able to talk about this for months because it's a confidential label
00:12projects like this and What Lies Beneath.
00:15But finally we're here now. Parang sabi ko, ang tagal na namin
00:18sinood ko, ang tagal ko na rin tinitating
00:20What Lies Beneath and finally it's time to show it all this year.
00:23So I just feel very lucky. Kasi nga parang lahat nung
00:26lahat nung paghihirap, lahat nung, you know like I said parang
00:30in these projects I've gone through everything.
00:33Alam mo yun yung excited ka and then you get to a point where it's hard to work
00:37because you're going through something but pick up the pieces and you have to do it still.
00:41Kasi you know this is, for me I really believe it's my destiny, it's my purpose to be an actor.
00:47I still feel I'm very blessed. So kailangan ko talagang
00:51kailangan ko talagang ibigay yung best ko sa lahat ng mga project na to.
00:54na hindi nila rin maramdaman na may favorite ako, you know what I mean?
00:58To give them equal amount of attention, equal amount of effort and dedication.
01:03So walang tiyasa ba nung kapta?
01:05It was very hard. Kasi nga, there's no time.
01:08Parang, you know, I have to be very honest with you.
01:11Parang, as difficult as things were.
01:13Parang, anang nangyari in moments like that, it's like you have to keep it together, compartmentalize it.
01:18Kasi hindi mo pwede dalang problema mo sa sa'yo.
01:20I can't drag them into my problems.
01:22I have to be miguelito and leave with my ego and may habang ako, but then you're feeling down.
01:28It's difficult, right?
01:30But I'm a professional.
01:32And I pride myself on being a professional.
01:34So hindi ko dinado ng mga problema ko sa'yo.
01:36So in a weird way, parang, naging reward mo na lang at the end of the day.
01:41Once you finish your 40 hours of shooting,
01:43is to actually feel what we're going through.
01:46I have a few moments to, you know, I have an 8-hour window of rest in between tapings.
01:51So at least I can be jQuery as a factor in sleep.
01:57So, I mean, I know people have been putting headlines out there and, you know, people are saying things like that.
02:02But that's, you know, that mahirap talaga yun eh.
02:06You know, it's not, I don't know how, paano nila na-pick up ang mga to and all these things.
02:11But to be quite honest with you, it's not easy to read sometimes.
02:15It's not easy to see that. Especially, like, these are, you know, this is a person that I loved.
02:20You know what I mean?
02:21Nandandandami mo nababasag na ikita.
02:23It's gotta be difficult.
02:25But, um, it's life.
02:28It's okay ka na?
02:30Um, you know, like, of course, like, of course, like I said, parang, I've only had much,
02:35I didn't have much time yet to, you know, be jig and be free and find yourself and, you know, do all these things.
02:41Parang, imagine I still, I also have to work out every single day because I'm trying to lose weight for the other role.
02:48Diba?
02:49So, like, when I commit myself kasi to a project, there's no way I'm not gonna give my 110%.
02:55You know what I mean?
02:56And like I said, parang sa kapanahon na natin ngayon, to have a lot of multiple projects like this, I really know how lucky I am.
03:03So, hindi po kaya, wala kong kaya bigo.
03:06I have to put my problems aside and be okay. Diba? And go to work.
03:13Aside from work, sino yung support system?
03:16My mom. My mom.
03:17Pero, like I said kanina, um, this whole experience, truthfully, I went through it by myself.
03:24Sobrang, na-enjoy ko yung parte ng buhay ko na yon because it was private.
03:29So, I also greet this alone and in private.
03:33So, in the most part, I'm okay.
03:36But of course, diba? Parang, like I said, parang, it would be nice to, you know, have some time two weeks or three weeks.
03:42But, again, I have to just remind myself na the last time I went through this, ang hirap ng buhay ko nun.
03:48I didn't have a lot of things with me.
03:50But this time in my life, I have so many things at hindi ko kaya bigoin ang batang kaya ko, hindi ko kaya bigoin ang what lies beneath.
03:57At hindi ko rin talaga bibigoin sa na direct pastor.
04:00So, mamaya na natin problemahin ang mga.
04:03Let's be a man about it and just work through these things.
04:06The only way out is to.
04:08Pero, Jake, ilang percent ko sana babasa ko? Sa tingin mo tama o hindi?
04:14I, you know, to be honest, it's all noise na lang for me.
04:17It's just a lot of opinions that don't matter.
04:20Kasi the most important opinion to me back then was hers. Diba?
04:24So, all of these things are just noise to me.
04:26Again, parang, you know, when you've gone through a career like mine,
04:30you have videos of me handcuffs on the sidewall. Diba?
04:34From those things. You don't really worry about scandals or controversies like this.
04:38In fact, like, to be honest with you, like, I like to just move past it.
04:42Kasi I don't enjoy this part of the industry.
04:44I don't enjoy this part of the show business, of acting.
04:48I enjoy that. You know, shooting and taping and filming and doing things. Diba?
04:52So, this is not a comfortable position for me to say the least.
04:57And to be honest with you, I wish na masarado na natin to
05:01and we can all just move on with our lives.
05:03Kasi, to be quite honest with you, that's what I have to do as a man right now.
05:06Right?
05:07Every day a week?
05:09Every day.
05:10Six days a week, sir.
05:11Yeah.
05:12So, I shoot Mondays, Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
05:14Batakya ko, Tuesday, Thursday.
05:16Saturday is, uh, what lies beneath.
05:19And then Sunday, whatever shoot or PR thing that I need to do to, you know, sustain my social media.
05:27I told myself, I told myself, pagkatapos po na itong mga project na to.
05:33And gano'n na po talaga ako eh.
05:35Like I said, since I've gone to my sobriety, I don't reward myself for the smallest things anymore.
05:40Parang, I told myself, i-reward ko sarili ko once I finish all these things.
05:44Diba? Or at least finish two of them at Batang Kiyapon na lang muna yung matita natin.
05:48Pero, for now, I can't eh.
05:50Kumbaga, if I ask for a vacation, if I ask for time off right now, paano yung bonggerero fam sa patak ko?
05:57No one will take.
05:59How about my driver?
06:00How about everyone who works, everyone I employ.
06:03Diba?
06:04Then everyone will have to take a break.
06:06So, life, like, you gotta just swallow it.
06:09And, you know, you just gotta take it on the chin and move forward and carry on.
06:13Like I said, throughout this experience, I'm incredibly proud of myself because
06:17I handle this like a man.
06:19So, where do you plan to go whenever you ask?
06:22Sorry, honestly, I don't know.
06:24Wala pa.
06:25I can't even afford to get my mind on a vacation right now because I still have two characters to really portray.
06:31And, to be honest, pag nakita nyo on Friday in trailer ng What Lies Beneath,
06:34I think you'll know more so what I'm talking about.
06:36Kasi, that's the character I prepared for the most.
06:39Yeah.
06:40So,
06:41Kasi, that's the character I'm talking about?
06:43Uh,
06:44You know, to be honest, I'm optimistic eh.
06:48I'm not a negative thinker.
06:50So, I still feel very blessed.
06:51And whatever I have in front of me right now, from all the pieces that's still there, I'm gonna thrive with that.
06:56And I'm gonna, you know, you know me.
06:59With something small, I can make something big.
07:01Diba?
07:02So, for me, I have a lot that I can thrive with now.
07:06A lot more than I ever had before.
07:08So, like I still feel incredibly lucky to be in this position.
07:11To be where I'm at in this industry.
07:13And at the same time, I have a lot of things to be happy for.
07:16Cause I'm also receiving my 20th year award from ABS-CBN.
07:19So, that means something.
07:21Jake, it's hard to be very strong in your role.
07:24So, saan nang galing ang strength?
07:26Like, I think,
07:27I think,
07:30It's a mindset.
07:31Diba? I set my mind.
07:32I also, like, I don't pretend to be strong.
07:35Parang,
07:36If I feel bored.
07:37Cause I'm an actor, right?
07:38I'm sensitive.
07:39I'm an artist.
07:40So, if I feel like I need to go through something, I don't stop.
07:43Maybe that's why I don't look so aged.
07:46Because I don't have a lot of pent up frustration.
07:48If I feel like I need to express myself,
07:50I will express myself.
07:52Sabi ko, I'm very lucky na isa akong actor.
07:55Because I get to do these scenes.
07:57And I get to express myself through my art.
07:59Na I get to experience cathartic.
08:02It's cathartic.
08:03Na I get to make amends through these projects.
08:06No matter how twisted it may be right now.
08:09Cause like I said,
08:10These roles that I'm doing,
08:11It's not like I'm making love stories or sad stories.
08:14I'm playing a corrupt politician who's embodying corruption right now.
08:18And I'm playing a convict who's a fugitive.
08:20Who's been in jail for 14 years.
08:22Now I'm also playing a crime boss syndicate.
08:25But you know, in all these characters,
08:27There's a human inside of that.
08:29There's Jake Wenka and all of that.
08:31But it's up to me to mesh that.
08:33And show you all something you've never seen before.
08:36And,
08:37Sana talagang ma-appreciate na itong series of projects
08:39that I'm really gonna offer everyone right now.
08:41Do you have time to watch other movies?
08:45Um,
08:46You know, me,
08:47You know,
08:48The weird thing is,
08:50The weird thing is for now,
08:52I'm more into books.
08:53I read a lot, a lot, a lot of books.
08:56It's just one month that this whole issue has been going on.
09:00I didn't really listen to anyone.
09:02But I just listened to all my favorite books.
09:04Audio books kasi ako eh.
09:06So I feel like I'm having a conversation with the writer or the author.
09:10So it really got me through a lot of tough times.
09:12It's hard kasi for my age and where I'm at in my life.
09:18There's not a lot of people who can give me advice anymore.
09:21I've gone through so many things.
09:23I don't think,
09:24I don't think,
09:25You know,
09:26A normal person will last five seconds in my shoes.
09:28Diba?
09:29To be honest.
09:30So,
09:31To me,
09:32I have to look to books for the best possible answer for my problems.
09:35And at the same time,
09:37With movies,
09:38I have a thing rin kasi when I'm in character,
09:40I don't deviate so much from what I'm doing.
09:43Kumbaga,
09:44Nakaset na ako eh.
09:45So if I watch a movie,
09:46There's a tendency to uncopy.
09:47Or use that.
09:49Lalo na kung pagod ka.
09:50It's a cheat code.
09:51An actor.
09:52So, ayaw mo nung gabi?
09:53No, I don't.
09:54In theater kasi diba,
09:55They tell us,
09:56Don't watch the play.
09:57Para hindi mo gayari ng performance ng actor.
09:59So,
10:00That's how I see my movies and film.
10:01But,
10:02Pag wala akong ginagawa,
10:03That's when I really immerse myself to watching a lot of films and TV.
10:06So,
10:08Ano yung kinaka nakatulong?
10:10For this whole time?
10:11Alam mo,
10:12I suggested this to my mom.
10:14To my whole team.
10:16Yung may makeup artist to everyone.
10:17One book that got me through a lot of processing this month,
10:21Was called Let Them by Mel Robbins.
10:25And,
10:26I really really suggest that to anyone who wants to read the first book.
10:29Kasi,
10:30This will make you be patient.
10:32Like I said,
10:33Many times I could have been reactionary.
10:35Many times I could have been emotional.
10:37Many times I could have been angry.
10:39But,
10:40I always took the time to pause and think first.
10:43And,
10:44Process everything first.
10:46Be emotionally intelligent about that.
10:48I guess.
10:49Jake, how old are you now?
10:5037.
10:51So,
10:52No.
10:53It's a lie.
10:54Yeah.
10:55May nagalit ka rin?
10:56Or,
10:57May time ba na nagiyakan mo?
10:58Umm,
10:59You know,
11:01I won't go into detail what I went through.
11:03But,
11:04I went through what any normal person would go through,
11:05given the circumstance,
11:06given the situation.
11:07Diba?
11:08I think,
11:09Like I said kanina,
11:10I deeply love that person.
11:12Deeply.
11:13Deeply.
11:14Deeply.
11:15So,
11:16When you deeply love a person,
11:17and you have to get over it,
11:18there's also a deep wound.
11:20But,
11:21you have to figure out how to heal yourself.
11:22No one else is gonna heal that wound.
11:24Except for you.
11:25And,
11:26Umm,
11:27I think I was able to.
11:28That's not mad.
11:29Again,
11:30given the time constraints.
11:32It's hard.
11:33It's hard.
11:34It's hard,
11:35but you feel so blessed.
11:37Diba?
11:38And,
11:39then you just remind yourself,
11:41that in this life,
11:42Diba?
11:43That at least in my experience,
11:44nothing worthwhile ever came easy.
11:46Minsan,
11:47hindi na challenge yung acting eh.
11:49Minsan yung challenge yung pinagdadaanan mo,
11:51kasi kailangan mo umakin.
11:52You understand?
11:53That make sense.
11:54So,
11:55that sometimes becomes a challenge of the project.
11:58Then,
11:59if you get through that,
12:00you're incredibly proud of yourself.
12:01and satisfied at the end of the project.
12:03Kasi nagawa mo yun.
12:04Pinatunayan mo sa sarili mo.
12:06Sabi ko,
12:07you know,
12:08when you play the bad guy like me,
12:11when you play a Contra Vida like this,
12:13Diba?
12:14Para,
12:15you have an opportunity in the set.
12:16To be a hero.
12:17Because they know what they're going through.
12:19Of course,
12:20the whole country knows what they're going through.
12:21You're being judged.
12:22You're being projected on.
12:23They're thinking you're going through something.
12:25But then,
12:26you have to carry on and do it.
12:28And then,
12:29mas mamahalin ka ng mga katrabaho mo.
12:31Mas sari-respetuin ka ng director.
12:33Mas sari-respetuin ka ng mga,
12:34at least na kasama mo.
12:35Because,
12:36they will say,
12:37that's a real actor.
12:38Kasi kahit may problema siya,
12:39gagawin niya pa rin.
12:40Wala siyang reklamo.
12:41And,
12:43if you have any advice for any aspiring actors,
12:45do that.
12:46you have to have a boy.
12:47But,
12:48you can be a man.
12:49As a hero.
12:50And,
12:51do that.
12:52A to a man.
12:53Or,
12:55the man.
12:56Kind of a man.
12:57As long as of a man.
12:58The man.
12:59In goes.
13:00From there.
13:01The man.
13:02The man.
13:03Not gonna.
13:04In goes.
13:05To that man.
13:06And,
13:07he's always going to have a boy.
13:08To go.
13:09Deny a man.
13:10The man.
13:11And,
13:12it's not going to go.
13:13You
