04:32Here comes Stanley the Leopard stepping silently through the sleeping jungle.
04:36A kid's way of learning is by playing.
04:38That makes them lifelong learners.
04:39I'm proud that you figured out what it was by yourself.
04:42I love to share. How about you?
04:43I never realized fun could be so much fun.
04:46Playhouse Disney programs spark your imagination.
04:49Imagine and learn Inside Playhouse Disney and PlayhouseDisney.com.
04:52Every day.
04:56Hey kids, stay with us after the program.
04:58And be sure to catch the fun music video of the Baja Men singing Stanley's theme song.
05:05And now, our feature program.
05:15Yeah.
05:18Oh, Stanley.
05:21Do you know a guy who talked to a kangaroo?
05:24I did.
05:25Who's always ready to learn about something new?
05:28Wow.
05:28Whose favorite book has all the animals you could wish?
05:32Yeah.
05:33Who's proud to say his best friend is a fish?
05:35That's right.
05:36It's my man, Stanley.
05:38Oh yeah, it's my man, Stanley.
05:40Welcome to Stanley's World.
05:42It's Stanley.
05:43Come help and figure out what life is all about.
05:47Who takes you swimming with dolphins?
05:49It's Stanley.
05:50Oh yeah.
05:51Laughs with a lion too.
05:53It's Stanley.
05:55Cool.
05:55No problem Stan can't solve.
05:57It's all that it involves.
05:59Having a friend like you.
06:02Aye.
06:03Having a friend like you.
06:05It's Stanley.
06:06It's Stanley.
06:07With a friend like you.
06:09It's Stanley.
06:10It's Stanley.
06:11It's Stanley.
06:12Woo.
06:12Searching for spring.
06:29It's awfully chilly out here, Stanley.
06:31What is it you wanted to show me?
06:33Oh no.
06:36What's the matter, Stanley?
06:38Look at Dennis' surprise.
06:41Uh oh.
06:42Well, I must say, I am surprised, Stanley.
06:45And I'm sure you know how much I appreciate big snow lumps.
06:51But yesterday it was a giant snow goldfish.
06:55It looked just like you, Dennis.
06:57Only bigger, of course.
07:00I'm sorry, Dennis.
07:02No need to apologize.
07:04Snow tends to melt quite quickly in late winter.
07:07Yeah, and turn to mucky-ucky slush.
07:09It's no fun playing outside anymore.
07:13You said it.
07:14It takes forever to put on a snowsuit.
07:16And mittens.
07:18And boots.
07:19And this stupid cap.
07:21And then there's nothing to do except watch everything melt and get muddy.
07:25I want it to be spring right now.
07:27Me too.
07:29That would be lovely, of course.
07:31But I'm afraid it's not going to happen overnight.
07:33I guess you kids didn't have much fun outside today, did you?
07:38Nah.
07:39My snowfish melted.
07:40We're sick of winter.
07:42We want it to be spring.
07:44Me too.
07:45Now here to tell us when spring will arrive is our Animal Weatherman.
07:49Animal Weatherman?
07:51What's he mean?
07:52Yes, it's Punxsutawney Phil, the world's most famous groundhog.
07:56Oh, I love this little guy.
07:59He's great.
08:00But how can a groundhog tell when spring is coming?
08:03Listen.
08:04Every year on Groundhog Day, we gather here to greet Punxsutawney Phil as he comes out of his hole after a long winter nap.
08:11Everyone knows that if he sees his shadow, that means there'll be six more weeks of winter.
08:17Oh, no.
08:18However, if Phil doesn't see his shadow, that means spring is on the way.
08:23Awesome.
08:24That is so cool.
08:25That's amazing.
08:26And it's just about time now for our favorite groundhog to poke his head out of that hole.
08:31Are you ready, Phil?
08:32Oh, I get so excited.
08:35He's just the cutest little thing.
08:37This is the moment we've all been waiting for.
08:39Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow or not?
08:43Not, not, not.
08:45I don't see any shadow.
08:47Do you?
08:48No, I don't, honey.
08:51There's no shadow to be seen, ladies and gentlemen.
08:54And that means spring is on its way.
08:58Yay!
08:59Tomorrow we can play baseball.
09:02And play in a flower garden.
09:04And run through the spring course.
09:06And put away our snow suits.
09:08And mittens and boots.
09:10And caps.
09:11Yay!
09:13I'm afraid you kids are getting a little carried away.
09:16Groundhog Day is kind of a legend, you know?
09:19What's a legend?
09:20It's something that people like to believe, but isn't necessarily true.
09:25It isn't going to be warm and green and springy for quite a while yet.
09:29I wouldn't dream of putting my paws outside the house this time of year.
09:35You won't say that tomorrow, Elsie.
09:38Spring's coming.
09:39Yeah, we heard it on TV from a groundhog named Puckawanna Pat.
09:43Fred.
09:44Phil.
09:45Whatever.
09:47Really?
09:47It's going to be spring?
09:49Yes!
09:50And real soon, too!
09:53Excuse me, Stanley, but I believe your mum said you shouldn't be too eager to believe in groundhog weathermen.
09:59Aw, that's just mum.
10:02Everybody knows that if a groundhog doesn't see a shadow on Groundhog Day, spring's coming.
10:07I'd like to suggest that we turn to a certain book of yours to learn a little bit more about groundhogs, if you please.
10:14Great idea, Dennis.
10:18Hey!
10:20It's a great big book of everything with everything inside.
10:25See the world around us, this book's the perfect guy.
10:28This song of yours is utterly delightful.
10:31I adore hearing you sing it every time.
10:34You do?
10:35Not!
10:37Whoa!
10:37I was freaked out for a minute there.
10:40Me too.
10:42Let's open the book, hooray, hooray, find the star of Groundhog Day!
10:48Groundhog.
10:48Let's see.
10:50That starts with a G.
10:52A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
10:55Here we go.
10:56Groundhog.
10:58I love them.
10:59They're so adorable.
11:01They look like little bears.
11:03Yeah, they do.
11:04So why are they called hogs?
11:07Are they pigs?
11:08No, they're not pigs at all.
11:11Groundhog is another name for woodchuck, an animal that has a thick reddish-brown coat and makes its home in burrows, underneath the ground.
11:19Pigs and hogs live above ground, on farms.
11:21How big are groundhogs?
11:22How big are groundhogs?
11:23About the same size and weight as Elsie, I'd say.
11:26What do they eat, Dennis?
11:27Why don't we go into the book and see?
11:30Yeah.
11:31Let's go.
11:31Into the book.
11:33Yahoo!
11:33Wow, look at all the great stuff in this garden.
11:40Tomatoes.
11:42Watermelons.
11:44Corn.
11:45Strawberries.
11:46Mmm.
11:47I love everything in this garden.
11:50So do the groundhogs.
11:52I don't see them, though.
11:55That's because they don't want you to.
11:57Look, look, there's one.
12:02You don't want to get too close, though.
12:05Groundhogs bite.
12:06Groundhogs love all kinds of fruits and vegetables.
12:09They have to eat a whole lot of them to get nice and fat before winter arrives.
12:14How come?
12:15To answer that, we'll have to zip out of this summer garden and learn what life is like for
12:19groundhogs during the winter.
12:22Wow, it's cold here.
12:25And nothing's growing.
12:26And I still don't see any groundhogs.
12:28You have to go deep, deep down in the ground to find them.
12:33Come see.
12:34Oh, look at them.
12:35They're so cute when they're all curled up asleep.
12:37Like fat little teddy bears.
12:40But why are they so fat?
12:42Groundhogs have to get really, really fat in summer and fall because they hibernate during
12:47most of the winter.
12:48What's hibernate mean?
12:50I know.
12:51It means they rest up for a long, long time.
12:54That's right, Stanley.
12:55And animals that rest most of the winter need to get fat so they can store up energy to survive.
13:01How do they know when to come out and look for their shadows?
13:05Yeah, like Funky Punky What's-His-Name.
13:07And how can they tell how long winter's going to be?
13:10Groundhogs can't really predict when winter will end, but it's fun to think they do.
13:16Aww.
13:17It's only a made-up story, a legend, that started a long time ago when people thought
13:22they could predict how long the winter would be because of one sunny or cloudy day.
13:26Well, how do groundhogs know when to come up out of their burrows then?
13:30They read Mother Nature's signs telling them when they'll be able to get food again.
13:35Mother Nature's signs?
13:36I've never seen any of them.
13:38You mean like billboards saying spring is coming?
13:41No.
13:42Mother Nature's signs are different.
13:45They're in the things you see around you, like buds on trees.
13:48I guess this means spring won't be coming tomorrow after all.
13:53Come on, Marcy and Mimi.
13:54Let's leave these groundhogs to keep snoozing and go back to my room.
13:58Bye-bye, groundhogs.
14:00See you in the spring.
14:01Is it true what the groundhog said?
14:07Is spring coming tomorrow?
14:09Nope.
14:10Nope.
14:11Nope.
14:12Ugh.
14:15Stanley, Marcy, Mimi, why are you all looking so glum?
14:20We thought spring was coming, Mom.
14:22Well, it is.
14:23Not tomorrow.
14:25No, not tomorrow, but if you go out and look for it, you can see signs of spring everywhere.
14:32Like what?
14:33Come out into the backyard and look with me, okay?
14:37You guys need to be spring detectives.
14:40Spring detectives?
14:42Uh-huh.
14:43What do spring detectives look for?
14:45Clues.
14:46When winter's coming to an end, certain things always start happening.
14:50Like what?
14:51Well, the sun stays up longer, the buds start appearing on the tree branches, and birds start
14:58building their nests.
15:00Can you find any of those clues out here, spring detectives?
15:04Hmm.
15:05Can you?
15:12Wait.
15:12I heard something.
15:14Look up there.
15:17There's a bird in that tree.
15:19And it's making a nest.
15:22Wow!
15:22Well, there are certain clues that spring will be here soon.
15:26Like?
15:27Well, like the sun stays up longer.
15:30Oh, what else?
15:32The ground gets mighty muddy, you sink up to your knees.
15:35Buds begin to burst, way up in the trees.
15:38Brooks begin to babble, so long to the freeze.
15:44The lights get mushy, really hard to skate.
15:47Streets are getting slushy, the sun is setting late.
15:51Something is a-coming, we can hardly wait.
15:54A brand new season has begun.
16:00Feel the warming sun.
16:03Say goodbye to winter fun.
16:06Can't you see that spring has sprung?
16:09Well, I kind of see.
16:11Are there other clues?
16:13Oh, there are plenty.
16:14Birdies are a-building, nests in the trees.
16:18Tulip tips are showing, there's something in the breeze.
16:21Take a whiff.
16:22Take a sniff.
16:23Yuck.
16:23I think I'm gonna sneeze.
16:26Ah-choo!
16:26A brand new season has begun.
16:30Feel the warming sun.
16:33Now that winter's on the run.
16:36Spring has sprung.
16:38The song is sung.
16:39And now it's time for fun.
16:42A brand new season has begun.
16:45Can't you see that spring has sprung?
16:48Groundhogs sure are cute, aren't they, Dennis?
16:55Yes, indeed.
16:57I wonder what it would be like to eat and eat and eat and then sleep a really long time.
17:02Perhaps you should ask Harry about that tomorrow.
17:07Well, Harry doesn't hibernate the way groundhogs do.
17:10They hibernate through the winter.
17:12Groundhogs are so cool.
17:14Yes, but they can't tell you how long winter will be now, can they?
17:19No, they can't.
17:20You have to be a spring detective to figure that out.
17:24Good night, Dennis.
17:26Good night, Spring Detective Stanley.
17:33Save the Bluebird.
17:37Okay, class.
17:39You see, Earth Day is coming up.
17:41What's that?
17:42Earth Day is a day when we all celebrate the planet we live on and try to do whatever we can to help it.
17:48Is it in trouble?
17:50Well, in some ways it is, Marcy.
17:52It needs cleaning up.
17:54And plants and animals need our help, too.
17:57Animals?
17:57Did you say animals?
17:59That's right, Stanley.
18:01A whole lot of animals are endangered because their homes are being destroyed.
18:05Ooh, I want to help!
18:07I want to help!
18:07Good for you!
18:09Well, I want each and every one of you to plan a project for Earth Day, and then we'll all share them together and have a big party right here at school.
18:18What kind of things can we do?
18:20Well, you might want to plant seeds so new plants can grow.
18:24Or clean up the schoolyard and get rid of any trash you can find.
18:27And somebody might want to think about how we can save energy.
18:32Miss Diaz! Miss Diaz! I want to take care of the...
18:35Animals!
18:36Yeah, how'd you know?
18:40Oh, we just had a feeling you might, Stanley.
18:43It's a big job helping animals in danger, but somebody's got to do it. I'll help them all.
18:49I'm glad to see you're all just as excited about Earth Day as I am.
18:55I'm going to save all the endangered animals on Earth, Dennis.
18:59That's a rather large job, don't you think?
19:02Not for me. I've got it all figured out.
19:05A lot of animals are losing their homes because people keep cutting down forests.
19:10That's certainly true.
19:11So I'm going to invite all the endangered animals to come live with us.
19:15Here? In your room?
19:17Well, sort of. It'll be great. I'll open the Stanley Griff Animal Hotel, see?
19:26Don't worry, everybody. You'll be safe here.
19:30This way, alligators.
19:32How's it going, sea lions?
19:35You're going to love it here, tigers.
19:38Excuse me, Stanley.
19:40Not now, Dennis. I'm welcoming my guest.
19:43Guess what it's about, those guests of yours.
19:45I think you're making a big mistake.
19:48Mistake? How can helping endangered animals be a mistake?
19:51Well, you see, Stanley, there are lots and lots of endangered animals in the world.
19:56I know. And I'll save them all.
19:58And I really wish you could.
20:01But the truth is, they don't all get along with each other.
20:04If you opened the Stanley Griff Animal Hotel, you'd have big problems, I'm afraid.
20:09Stop! Stop!
20:21I guess you're right, Dennis.
20:22Maybe I should just try to save one kind of animal right now.
20:26I couldn't have said it better myself.
20:29Why don't you look for one closer to home?
20:32Like what?
20:33Well, what do you see when you look in the back yard?
20:40I see Harry and Elsie.
20:42But they're not endangered.
20:44I take really good care of them.
20:45See anything else?
20:49Just a couple of birds on the fence.
20:51That's all.
20:52What kind of birds?
20:54I don't know.
20:55They're little and blue.
20:57Bluebirds!
20:58Believe it or not, those birds could be endangered.
21:02No, they couldn't.
21:03They're right in my back yard.
21:05It's really safe out there.
21:07They look safe, but they're not.
21:10Why, Dennis?
21:11Because they're losing their homes.
21:14Losing their homes?
21:15That's terrible.
21:17I've got to do something about that.
21:19Well, before you do,
21:20why don't you learn all about them in the great big book of everything?
21:25Okay.
21:25What's she doing, Stanley?
21:29Oh, no.
21:30They're going to sing that song of theirs, aren't they?
21:32I was just going to look up bluebirds and...
21:34We know!
21:35We know!
21:37It's the great big book of everything
21:41with everything inside.
21:43See the world around us.
21:44This book's the perfect guide.
21:46I simply can't understand
21:48why they love singing this song so much.
21:50Now our Stanley's going to look through
21:52to find a bird that's blue.
21:55Let's see.
21:57Bluebird starts with B.
21:59Here it is.
22:00Bluebirds are quite beautiful, aren't they?
22:03Did you know they're a symbol of happiness?
22:05Is that because they're having fun all the time?
22:08Not really.
22:09It's because the color blue stands for happiness
22:11in some parts of the world.
22:13And people like to think the bluebird stands for love and happiness and hope.
22:17But you said they were in danger, Dennis.
22:20That doesn't sound very happy to me.
22:22Right.
22:23Let's go into the book and find out all about bluebirds
22:26and the problems they're having.
22:28Okay.
22:28Yahoo!
22:30Yahoo!
22:34Wow.
22:34There are so many bluebirds here.
22:37That's because this is a perfect place for them to live.
22:40A great big meadow with plenty of trees.
22:43Bluebirds like to nest in hollow trees.
22:46Watch that bluebird over there, Stanley.
22:49It's eating something.
22:51An insect, I believe.
22:53Bluebirds eat mainly insects in the summer
22:55and mainly wild berries in the winter.
22:58Hey, look.
22:58It's flying over to that tree.
23:01I guess it decided to go back home.
23:04Yes.
23:04Where it's safe and sound until...
23:06What's happening, Dennis?
23:09Who are those guys?
23:11They're the workers who are going to cut down the trees
23:13and clear the meadow, Stanley.
23:15Cut down the trees?
23:16Why?
23:17Well, because people want to build houses and roads and stores.
23:22I guess maybe that's not so bad for people,
23:25but it's really bad news for the bluebirds, isn't it?
23:28It is indeed.
23:30In fact, the poor little bluebirds of happiness
23:32have had a very hard time of it.
23:34Besides losing their homes when trees are cut down and cleared away...
23:38Stanley!
23:39Watch out!
23:41The bluebirds also have a harder and harder time finding food.
23:46That's terrible.
23:48Poor bluebirds.
23:49They should be called bluebirds of unhappiness.
23:51That's what I think.
23:53But the good news is...
23:55There's good news?
23:57Tell me the good news.
23:58Well, a whole lot of people had the same spirit you have,
24:01and they figured out a way to save the bluebird.
24:05Yes!
24:06Save the bluebird!
24:07Save the bluebird!
24:09Um, what did they do, Dennis?
24:11They started building houses for them.
24:14Of course!
24:15What a great idea!
24:16I can see it now!
24:18See what, Stanley?
24:19The Stanley Griff Bluebird Hotel.
24:22Come on, Dennis.
24:23Let's go back to my room.
24:24I've got to get working on this.
24:27Did you hear me say, hotel?
24:28Now, let me see.
24:33How am I going to let all the bluebirds in the world know that my house is going to be a bluebird hotel?
24:38I know!
24:39I'll make a big sign!
24:40I'm sorry to disappoint you, Stanley.
24:42They won't come to live here because they like special little bluebird houses with tiny entrance holes.
24:48That's what you have to make if you want to help bluebirds.
24:51Oh, well, why didn't you say so?
24:54What should I make the houses out of?
24:57Wood, I believe.
24:58Wood?
24:59Hmm.
25:00You cut wood with a saw.
25:02That means you're going to need help from Dad.
25:04Excellent thinking, Stanley.
25:07So you want to save the bluebirds, do you?
25:09Uh-huh.
25:10It's my Earth Day project.
25:12And all I need to do is build about a bazillion little houses.
25:15A bazillion, huh?
25:17Yeah, that ought to do it.
25:18We could always make more later, right?
25:21Right.
25:22Tell you what, Stanley.
25:23Why don't we start by making one bluebird house?
25:26Okay.
25:27And then we'll test it.
25:29Test it?
25:30To see if any bluebirds come.
25:32We've got to make sure we get it just right.
25:34Yeah, Dad.
25:36Bluebirds are pretty special birds.
25:38They sure are.
25:39And I can think of someone else who's pretty special, too.
25:46Oh, look at your seeds, Mimi.
25:50They're already turning into plants.
25:53Good for you.
25:56I guess I really helped the planet, didn't I?
25:59You sure did.
26:00And see what I made?
26:02It's a potato clock.
26:04Does it really work?
26:06Uh-huh.
26:07Sometimes.
26:08It's really great to think about ways to save energy.
26:12You guys are all super.
26:13Hey, where's Stanley?
26:15Stanley, he's way over there.
26:17Stanley!
26:18We want to see what you made, Stanley.
26:21Yeah, where is it?
26:23It's over there.
26:24But don't go near it.
26:25What do you mean?
26:26Why not?
26:28I think I know why Stanley doesn't want us to get too close.
26:31Do you see what it is?
26:35It's a birdhouse.
26:38Dad and I built a birdhouse for a bluebird family.
26:42Now they're safe.
26:43Yes, it's a perfect place to be.
26:48I love potato clocks.
26:50No batteries to buy.
26:52And they recycle.
26:54You can turn them into fries.
26:56Mmm.
26:57I say this fish will chip in.
27:00I've got a thought or two.
27:03You know we all can help.
27:05Hey, how about you?
27:06Every day is Earth Day.
27:10And there's lots that we can do.
27:13I can do it.
27:14We can do it.
27:15You can do it, too.
27:18Every day is Earth Day.
27:20It's the way it's got to be.
27:23To make a happy world for you and me.
27:26La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
27:29That's wonderful, Flask.
27:31What are some other things you can do?
27:33I'm going to plant a tiny seed and grow a giant tree.
27:37I'll fix a faucet
27:39I'll save some energy
27:40Remember you can lend a hand
27:45And I shall lend a fin
27:47There's no time like the present
27:49So let's jump in
27:52Everybody
27:53Every day is Earth Day
27:55And there's lots of we can do
27:57I can do it
27:59We can do it
28:00You can do it too
28:02Every day is Earth Day
28:05It's the way it's gotta be
28:07To make a happy world
28:10For you and me
28:11Let's make a happy world
28:15For you and me
28:16Well I'm gonna tell everybody
28:21I know to build bluebird houses
28:23Maybe I can't build a bazillion of them
28:25Myself but I can ask a bazillion
28:27People to help
28:28Good for you because every time
28:31Somebody builds a bluebird house
28:32They're helping to
28:34Save the bluebird
28:35Good night Dennis
28:37Good night
28:38Bluebird of happiness
28:39Boy Stanley
28:40Caterpillar countdown
28:46Come on hurry up Dennis
29:01A little patience please Elsie
29:03Nine
29:06Nine
29:08But I always get tens
29:09I don't know Harry
29:11Maybe your best years
29:13Are behind you
29:14You just don't have that
29:15Puppy like spring
29:16In your step anymore
29:17Stanley
29:18Let's show him
29:20You got it
29:21Go
29:23Ten
29:30Ten
29:32Hey what's up
29:36What's going on
29:39Just
29:40I don't know
29:41A thing
29:42It's just a worm
29:45Come on
29:46Come on
29:47Let's do another
29:48Nah
29:49I'm tired
29:50And it's not a worm
29:51It's something else
29:52That's a caterpillar
29:57Cater what
29:58I'm a cat
30:00And I'm certainly
30:01Not related to that thing
30:02No
30:03It's not a cat
30:04And it's not a worm
30:05It's a caterpillar
30:06It's got little tiny feet
30:09I've never seen a worm
30:10With little tiny feet
30:12Okay
30:12So it's not a worm
30:14And it's not a cat
30:15It's a catter
30:16Catter
30:17Caterpillar
30:19Right
30:20Caterpillar
30:21So who cares
30:23One more time Harry
30:25Nah
30:26I'm too tired
30:27Maybe later
30:30Why does everything
30:31Have to be right now
30:33With you
30:33You're so impatient
30:35Look
30:37What's it doing
30:39It's beginning
30:40To form a chrysalis
30:41Chrysalis
30:42Yeah
30:43I think it's like
30:44A little sleeping bag
30:45Where it rests
30:46I like to rest
30:47Under the kitchen table
30:49Am I a caterpillar
30:50No
30:51Because this is
30:52A special kind of rest
30:54Can you guess
30:55Why a caterpillar
30:56Makes its chrysalis
30:57To take a nap
30:58To get out
30:59Of taking a bath
31:00I think I know
31:02To change
31:03To grow wings
31:04And become a butterfly
31:05Who do you think
31:06Is right
31:07You're right
31:10It's to change
31:12And grow wings
31:13It's going to turn
31:14Into a butterfly
31:15That little fat guy
31:17Can fly
31:18Well not right now
31:19But after it's changed
31:21In its chrysalis
31:22It will
31:22I don't believe it
31:24If that thing flies
31:25I'll
31:26I'll take a bath
31:29In that bird bath
31:31But Elsie
31:32You're a cat
31:33I'm aware of that Harry
31:35But cats hate taking baths
31:38Well that's how sure I am
31:39That that chubby worm
31:40Will never fly
31:42Uh, caterpillar
31:44Well let's learn more
31:45Okay, let's take a look
31:50It's that
31:53Great big book of everything
31:55With everything inside
31:57See the world around us
31:58This book's the perfect guide
32:00I do hope you're done
32:03You can find out why
32:05Caterpillars learn to fly
32:06Let's see here
32:10Caterpillar starts with
32:13C
32:13A, B
32:14And C
32:16Hmm, just a lot of worms
32:19Look, that's just like the one Harry found
32:22Yep, that's the one
32:23What's its name?
32:25That, my friends
32:26Is a monarch caterpillar
32:28It'll become a monarch butterfly
32:31Worms growing wings
32:33Caterpillars growing wings
32:35Here it is
32:36Monarch butterfly
32:37Let's go
32:43Yahoo!
32:50Look at them all
32:52Hey!
32:57Where are we?
32:59We're in the south of Mexico
33:00Where's that?
33:02Easter monarch butterflies fly
33:03All the way from where we live
33:05To all the way down here in Mexico
33:09Why did they do that?
33:11They don't like it when it gets cold
33:12It's warmer here in Mexico
33:14When it warms up at home
33:16They go back to lay their eggs
33:18So now you've got to believe us
33:21Just look at all these butterflies
33:23Yeah, yeah, I see a lot of butterflies
33:28But not a lot of caterpillars growing wings
33:31Okay, maybe we just need a few more details
33:34Monarch butterflies start as little eggs
33:38Their parents lay those eggs on milkweed plants
33:41Just like the plant in the backyard
33:43And from those eggs grow caterpillars
33:46And finally, when those caterpillars get big enough
33:51They form a chrysalis
33:55And in that chrysalis they turn into butterflies
33:58Yeah, it'll all make sense
34:04They're so cool
34:08I wish I could turn into a butterfly
34:11Let's go see how ours is doing
34:15Yahoo!
34:16Look, it's doing it
34:23It's beginning to make its chrysal thing
34:25Chrysalis, Elsie
34:26Oh, we've got to get ready
34:28We should make a welcome sign
34:30And some snacks
34:31It might be hungry
34:32It's really taking its time, isn't it?
34:42Come on out, butterfly
34:43When is this butterfly going to come out?
34:50It's been like, like forever
34:53I think it's been about ten minutes, Elsie
34:56Ten minutes?
34:59How much longer?
35:01Well, let's see
35:02It says here about fourteen days
35:06Oh, I don't even have enough claws for that
35:13Fourteen days is just two weeks away
35:16Oh, that's still like forever
35:22Anything yet?
35:31I was kind of hoping a nice song would make it want to come out
35:35You've got to be patient
35:36I've heard
35:38Okay, what do you like?
35:44You like chocolate?
35:45I'll get it for you
35:46I'll get you anything you want if you just come out right now
35:49Oh, it's getting pretty wet out here
35:52I told you
35:56You've got to be patient
35:58I am being patient
36:00I'm trying to make a deal with it
36:03I don't know if it can hear you, Elsie
36:05You've got to wait a whole week more
36:07Oh, boy
36:09I don't know if I can make it
36:12I'll leave the calendar here with you
36:14You can keep track of the days
36:16Okay
36:17This should be the day
36:35Stanley!
36:37What?
36:38It's the day!
36:39We've counted them all up
36:41The butterflies coming out today
36:43I know, I know
36:45But you've still got to be patient
36:48You are driving me crazy with this patience business!
36:54Elsie
36:55Okay, I'm under control now
36:58Hey, what are you guys doing?
37:03Waiting
37:04What are you waiting for?
37:06The butterfly to come out
37:07It's coming out?
37:10Oh, good
37:11Okay
37:12I'm waiting patiently
37:14Me too
37:15I can't stand it any longer
37:20I hate waiting
37:23Maybe if we do something fun
37:26It'll feel like the time is going faster
37:29What do you guys like to do?
37:31I liked pretending to be a butterfly
37:33We could all do it
37:35You can pretend to be a butterfly too
37:38Come on, flap your wings
37:40I'm a butterfly
37:43I'm a butterfly
37:44It moved
37:48It moved
37:50Something's alive in there
37:51The butterfly's coming out
37:55Look
37:55It's a butterfly
38:02Happy birthday, butterfly
38:04Happy birthday!
38:06Happy birthday!
38:10Happy birthday!
38:11Happy birthday!
38:12Happy birthday!
38:13Happy birthday!
38:14Happy birthday!
38:15Happy birthday!
38:16Happy birthday!
38:17Happy birthday!
38:18Happy birthday!
38:19Happy birthday!
38:20Happy birthday!
38:21Happy birthday!
38:22Happy birthday!
38:23Happy birthday!
38:24Happy birthday!
38:25Happy birthday!
38:26Happy birthday!
38:27Happy birthday!
38:28Happy birthday!
38:29Happy birthday!
38:30Happy birthday!
38:31Happy birthday!
38:32Happy birthday!
38:33Happy birthday!
38:34Happy birthday!
38:35Happy birthday!
38:36Happy birthday!
38:37Happy birthday!
38:38Are you going to take that bath?
38:40Oh, what bath?
38:42Remember, you said you were so sure that the caterpillar wouldn't become a butterfly
38:46that if it did, you'd take a bath.
38:50Oh, right.
38:51I think, um, I think I was just kidding about that.
39:01I guess I could use the bath.
39:02But I think Harry could use the bath, too.
39:06Hey!
39:08Water fight!
39:12I'm going to get you to the bath.
39:14But I'm going to get you to the bath first.
39:19Do monarch butterflies migrate?
39:21They do indeed.
39:22They go south to stay warm, all the way to Mexico.
39:26Our butterfly could be going there now.
39:29Right.
39:32It could be flying across the whole country, over little towns,
39:36big cities, over rivers and mountains, through clouds and rain and wind and...
39:42Good night, Dennis.
39:46Good night, butterfly boy Stanley.
39:56Baby pictures.
39:57Attention, everybody.
40:00Thank you for being such good listeners.
40:02I have a treat in store for all of you tomorrow.
40:05A really fun game.
40:07Wow, what's going on?
40:09I call it the baby picture game.
40:12Yes, Stanley.
40:13You have a question?
40:14Who's that baby, Ms. Diaz?
40:16You have to guess, Stanley.
40:18That's the game.
40:19Huh?
40:20I wonder who it could be anyone.
40:22Now, here's how it works.
40:24Everyone in the class is going to bring in a picture of themselves when they were a baby.
40:28Then I'm going to put them all up on the blackboard.
40:31Then we have to guess who is who.
40:33Right, Mimi.
40:34The game is to match the baby picture with the child they've grown to become.
40:38Wow, that's fun.
40:40Wow.
40:41And for a little practice, can anyone guess whose baby picture this is?
40:46Is it Miguel?
40:47Is it Maeve?
40:49Is it Katie?
40:50No, no and no.
40:53So who is it, Ms. Diaz?
40:55Actually, this is a picture of me when I was nine months old.
40:59You, Ms. Diaz, are real?
41:02Wow.
41:03Wow.
41:03You were a baby, but you're a grown-up.
41:08Everyone was a baby once, Stanley.
41:10Even me.
41:11But you'll see that tomorrow when you bring in your baby pictures.
41:15Don't forget...
41:16Hey, I'm home.
41:27Lionel, I need pictures of me when I was a baby.
41:30Yeah, I bet we have one or two.
41:32Gazillion.
41:32Dad and I put all the family pictures on the computer.
41:35Go take a look.
41:39That's Mom and Dad.
41:41I can't believe it.
41:42They look so young.
41:43Look at this.
41:44It's Mom and Dad's wedding.
41:45And that was when they had Lionel before they had me.
41:52And there's Harry as a little puppy.
41:56Huh?
41:57I was never a puppy.
41:58Sure you were, Harry.
42:00You had to be.
42:01You probably slept through it, Harry.
42:05Funny, Elsie.
42:06Hey, that is me.
42:10Check me out.
42:11That was one cool little furball.
42:13Let's switch to someone really adorable.
42:15Let's see me.
42:16Sure, Elsie.
42:18Oh, this I can't miss.
42:22Oh, look at me.
42:24I was so cute and cuddly.
42:27And so playful.
42:31And so smart.
42:33And so curious.
42:35Like the time you got stuck in the tree.
42:38Or the time you got stuck...
42:40All right, enough pictures of me.
42:42Aren't there any pictures of someone else as a baby?
42:45Here's one.
42:47I remember that picture.
42:49That's the day I brought you home from the pet store.
42:51That was the best day of my life.
42:53I felt the same way.
42:55And when you winked at me, that cinched it.
42:57You're a great kid, Stanley.
42:59And you're a great fish, Dennis.
43:01High five!
43:02Yay!
43:05Okay, enough mushy stuff.
43:07This cat has caught this mouse.
43:09And I'm clicking on Stanley's baby pictures.
43:13Wow!
43:14That is me!
43:16It sure is.
43:18What was I like as a baby?
43:20Was I cute?
43:21Was I really small?
43:22What did I eat?
43:25Stanley, you were a magnificent baby.
43:28You were very cute.
43:29Very cuddly.
43:31And your favorite food was mashed corn.
43:33It was also your favorite hat.
43:37Oh, I can remember how much I loved to feed you, to bathe you, to rock you to sleep in my arms.
43:44And boy, did you love animals, Stanley.
43:47As soon as you started crawling, you were always making friends with cats, dogs, fish, you name it.
43:52And then when you started walking and talking, it was always, take me to the zoo, take me to the zoo.
43:59Now look how much you've grown.
44:01You can ride a two-wheeler, you go to school, you can even read.
44:05You're not my little baby anymore.
44:07Hmm.
44:08You've grown into a wonderful child, who will someday be a wonderful grown-up.
44:14Uh, a grown-up?
44:17Sure, Stanley.
44:18Before you know it, you and your brother will be all grown-up and living on your own.
44:34I'm not sure I want to be a grown-up, Dennis.
44:37I sure don't want to move out of the house.
44:40I think I'd rather be a baby again.
44:42Meow.
44:44As a matter of fact, I know I'd rather be a baby again.
44:51But Stanley, then you couldn't ride your scooter, and you couldn't go to school, and you couldn't play soccer with Mimi and Marcy.
44:59But if I grow up and I'm not living with Mom and Dad anymore, where am I going to go?
45:05Bye, Stanley.
45:07Don't forget to ride.
45:12Meow.
45:14Who's going to help me with my homework?
45:16Who's going to tuck me in at night?
45:18I'm not ready to be a grown-up.
45:21It'll be okay, Stanley.
45:23The truth is, that's how it works.
45:26Yeah.
45:27All animals grow up.
45:28It's the way it is, Stanley.
45:31I know.
45:32But when and how fast?
45:33How long does it take to become a grown-up?
45:35Well, I'm not sure.
45:38But we can always check it out in the Great Big Book of Everything.
45:41It's the Great Big Book of Everything with everything inside.
45:48See the world around us.
45:50This book's the perfect guide.
45:52This is growing tiresome.
45:54What does the Great Big Book of Everything say about how long it takes goldfish to grow up?
46:05A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
46:09Goldfish.
46:10Baby goldfish.
46:11Here it is.
46:12Wow.
46:13Look at all those baby fish.
46:17A large female goldfish can lay as many as 10,000 eggs.
46:22That's a lot, isn't it?
46:23If you had 10,000 people, you'd have a whole town.
46:27What happens to the eggs, Dennis?
46:28Well, at first, goldfish eggs look like little transparent bubbles.
46:33And they grow really quickly.
46:35Uh-oh.
46:36Look at this.
46:37Goldfish hatch in only five to seven days.
46:40And then they're on their own with no help from their parents.
46:44You had to take care of yourself in less than a week?
46:46I sure couldn't do that.
46:48I couldn't walk or talk or feed myself when I was a week old.
46:51Every kind of fish and every kind of animal are different, Stanley.
46:56How different was I?
46:57What's the great big book of everything say about kittens?
47:00A, B, C.
47:02Cats.
47:04Baby cats.
47:05Kittens.
47:06Here it is.
47:07I didn't know that kittens are born blind.
47:10They are.
47:11I don't remember that.
47:13You were probably too young to remember, Elsie.
47:16Kittens' eyes don't open until seven to ten days after they're born.
47:19I do remember drinking my mom's milk with all my brothers and sisters, though.
47:24Yes, but kittens stop nursing or drinking their mom's milk when they're about five weeks old.
47:29I remember my mom.
47:31She taught me lots of stuff.
47:34I'm sure she did.
47:35Mother cats are great teachers.
47:38Oh, man.
47:39What?
47:39What?
47:40It says at about eight weeks old, kittens can be left all alone, without their mom or anyone watching over them.
47:46And then kittens grow into cats in just a year.
47:49When I was a year old, I was still a baby.
47:52Hey, all this stuff about goldfish and kittens is putting me to sleep.
47:55What's the great big book of everything say about puppies?
47:58A, B, C, D.
48:01Dogs.
48:02Baby dogs.
48:03Puppies.
48:04Here it is.
48:06Read the part where it says how puppies are so much cooler than kittens.
48:10It doesn't say that, Harry.
48:13But what it does say is that puppies are helpless at birth.
48:16Like cats, they can't see until their eyelids open.
48:19For dogs, that's in about two weeks after they're born.
48:22Harry's eyelids still haven't opened.
48:25I heard that.
48:26When puppies are about two weeks old, they begin walking.
48:29And they're steady on their feet at three weeks.
48:32Puppies walk at three weeks old?
48:35Mom told me I started walking when I was a year old.
48:38A year is a lot longer than three weeks.
48:40I guess humans take a lot longer to grow up than kittens, puppies and goldfish, Stanley.
48:45They sure do.
48:47A dog is almost a grown-up at just a year.
48:50Wow.
48:51I'm six and I still need my mom and dad to take care of me.
48:55What's the great big book of everything say about when humans are grown up?
48:59A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
49:02H for humans.
49:04Baby humans take from 14 to 18 years to grow to full size.
49:08And some don't even get fully grown until they're in their 20s.
49:11Really?
49:12I won't be a grown-up for years and years?
49:16That's great!
49:17That's the way it works.
49:19First you're a baby, but you can't stay a baby.
49:22You grow and change and learn and finally you're a grown-up.
49:25But it won't happen until I'm ready, right?
49:28Right, Stanley.
49:30So enjoy being a kid.
49:34Do you have your baby picture all picked out for class tomorrow?
49:37I sure do.
49:38And I learned a lot about growing up.
49:41Like what?
49:42Well, I learned that goldfish hatch in five days and then have to take care of themselves.
49:46And I learned that kittens can be on their own without any help from their mom in about eight weeks.
49:51And I learned that dogs are all grown up in about a year.
49:55Wow, you sure have learned a lot, Stanley.
49:58But that's not all.
49:59I also learned that I can't go back to being a baby, but I'm not ready to move out and go to college yet.
50:04I'll keep growing and growing and someday I'll be ready.
50:07But I have plenty of time.
50:09You sure do, sweetheart.
50:10All the time you need.
50:12And every minute of it, Stanley, we'll still be here to help.
50:25Well, children, one thing's for sure.
50:28You were all beautiful babies.
50:31Hey, Marcy, Mimi, I bet you can't figure out which one is me.
50:34I bet we can.
50:35I know we can.
50:36Okay, which one?
50:38Can you guess which baby picture is Stanley's?
50:40Is it this one, or this one, or this one?
50:46That one!
50:49Yep, that's me.
50:50How'd you know?
50:51It's obvious, Stanley.
50:53You love animals.
50:55I sure do.
50:56And that's something I'll never grow out of.
50:58That's my animal boy, Stanley.
51:00Hey, here.
51:01Hey!
51:02Hey!
51:02Hey one!
51:02My mother boy, Gordon!
51:04I know we're all cute.
51:04Hey!
51:05Hey!
51:06Hey!
51:23Hey!
51:23What?
51:24Hey!
51:25Hey, Dennis, is that the Bahama?
51:46That's right, Stanley.
51:48Oh, Stanley.
51:51Do you know a guy who talked to a kangaroo?
51:54Hi there.
51:55Who's always ready to learn about something new?
51:58Whose favorite book has all the animals you could wish?
52:03Who's proud to say his best friend is a fish?
52:05That's right.
52:06It's my man, Stanley.
52:07Oh, yeah, it's my man, Stanley.
52:09Welcome to Stanley's World.
52:13Come help him figure out what life is all about.
52:17Who takes you swimming with dogs?
52:20It's Stanley.
52:20Oh, yeah.
52:21Life's with a lion, too.
52:23No problem Stan can't solve.
52:27It's all that it involves having a friend like you.
52:33Having a friend like you.
52:35It's Stanley.
52:36It's Stanley.
52:37With a friend like you.
52:39It's Stanley.
52:40It's Stanley.
52:41It's Stanley.
52:42Woo!
52:42It's Stanley.
52:53It's Stanley.
53:02It's Stanley.
