The Block Season 21 Episode 42
Transcript
00:00Three previous block backyards into one of these places.
00:04Big space, big space means a lot of things that need to be done, which means a lot of money.
00:07Hustle is going to be our motto for this season. Hustle, hustle, hustle.
00:10We were talking about landscaping plans from day dot. Gardens are so important to us.
00:15I've got all this crazy paving coming in for here. That's going to be our point of difference.
00:20They keep just saying, any money you win is going to go into your landscape.
00:24Tonight, backyard week officially begins.
00:28Best week of the block here. We can't wait, we can't wait.
00:31Full odd week.
00:31It is going to be epic, providing we can pull it off.
00:35Being outside, it's a whole new playing field.
00:37It's just the scale of this week is ginormous.
00:40There's so many dreams.
00:41I just don't know how we're going to pull it off.
00:43Nearly unrealistic to think that you could landscape this whole backyard in a week.
00:48Keep calm and drink tea.
00:50We had poured a little bit of the concrete.
00:52Other than that, we've done no landscaping.
00:54Yeah, we have a lot to do.
00:55Let's make this look ridiculous.
00:57We have this huge seven and a half ton fireplace and then an 18 by eight big bullcourt.
01:02No other house has got that.
01:03And as we reach the end of the competition, it seems all is fair in love and landscaping.
01:09Our point of difference to the landscape is these rocks.
01:12And now they're in your landscape.
01:14Well, it's on our land.
01:15Finders keepers.
01:16Yeah.
01:17Losers weepers.
01:17It's week 11 and it is the biggest week of them all.
01:31It's landscaping week.
01:32Garden says so much to a house.
01:35Like, it sells a house.
01:37We love landscaping.
01:38And driving through Dalesford, you see all these amazing back and front yards.
01:41You see the work that people put into them.
01:49So to sell this house, yes, the interior needs to be great.
01:52You get outdoors, just needs to be next level.
01:55Yep, in just seven days, our blockheads need to turn these piles of dirt into backyards
02:07worthy of their Dalesford surroundings.
02:10Needless to say, it's going to be a very busy week.
02:14So we've got the entire backyard, the pool cabana, everything around the pool, all the
02:21landscaping, the earth moving, the excavation.
02:25There's a lot.
02:27Busy stuff.
02:28Concrete pours in one, two, three and five today.
02:30We've already got two pumps here.
02:32There's going to be a lot happening.
02:34Last week's going to look like kids playing in the sandpit compared to the next two weeks.
02:38All right.
02:40That's it for today.
02:41Be nice to each other.
02:42Have a coffee.
02:44Did you enjoy last night, Shayla?
02:48Yeah.
02:49What was shown?
02:50The first episode.
02:51So funny.
02:53Sunday night after judging, we watched the first episode.
02:56Welcome to our 21st season of The Block.
03:04It's weird seeing yourself on TV.
03:05Yeah.
03:06I loved it.
03:07Yeah, we thought it was cool.
03:08I loved watching that.
03:08They captured our backstory so well.
03:10Desiree always has to take us to the shops.
03:13She loved all of them because she sings her songs in the back of the car.
03:19We're just like best mates.
03:22Close to getting the age where we're looking to start families and all that.
03:27Surprise.
03:27It was awesome.
03:31Nice surprise.
03:31Really nice.
03:32Yeah.
03:32Because I will not cop that.
03:34I did nothing towards you and nor have I done anything towards you this entire time.
03:39Not one thing.
03:40We walked out of there down.
03:42Sweet.
03:43That's us.
03:43We loved it.
03:44Yeah.
03:44We are who we are.
03:49Give me a high five, please.
03:50We all saw ourselves on TV and it was like, wow, we had a good laugh.
03:59But we were enjoying ourselves and we have ever since.
04:03Who was not happy with how they were portrayed?
04:07Not portrayed, but was anyone not happy?
04:09We're trying to get a million things done really quickly.
04:13So now I've lost us here.
04:16It's a good tool for my parents.
04:21How's the hand?
04:22You all right?
04:22No.
04:23We have a pool lady.
04:23Hiding in her hoodie.
04:26You all right?
04:28Yeah?
04:28No.
04:29No.
04:31I don't think she's embarrassed, but everything is just...
04:36Just watching myself be, like, disgusted with house two,
04:46to me it came across like I was ungrateful.
04:50This is a problem to me, this retaining wall.
04:54It's so ugly.
04:57I hate it.
04:58I hate it.
05:00I just look like a spoiled brat.
05:03That's how it felt watching it,
05:05and that's why I was, like...
05:07That's why I was, like, oh, gross.
05:09Like, I feel gross about myself.
05:10I feel gross about the situation.
05:14This is the world that we live in.
05:19I feel myself get tired.
05:22This is the world that we live in.
05:25Oh, don't.
05:27Watching the first episode was a little cringe.
05:30The first couple weeks for us, like,
05:32we didn't know what we were in for.
05:34We were, like...
05:36I don't know, like, birds
05:38who had just let them nest
05:39and were struggling to fly.
05:41The next two weeks, just want to have a bit of fun.
05:43We used to have so much fun together.
05:45We used to get along so well.
05:47We never argued before we came to the block.
05:48We used to be friends.
05:49We used to be friends.
05:50Now we're enemies.
05:51Can you believe it?
05:52We're enemies.
05:54It's OK.
05:55We'll see what happens after the block.
05:56Monday morning, we...
06:03We're feeling good.
06:04Oh, we feel fantastic.
06:05We're feeling 40 grand, Richard.
06:06With a perfect score.
06:0930 out of 30.
06:11We did it.
06:11We got a perfect score.
06:14We won the week
06:16and we got a 10 from every judge.
06:20Congratulations, boys.
06:22Last night, the boys revealed
06:24their highly anticipated wine cellar.
06:27That's been 10 weeks in the making
06:28and the judges absolutely loved it.
06:32Oh, look at this.
06:40This is the perfect wine cellar.
06:42This is a home run.
06:45They now don't have the same houses.
06:48Yeah.
06:48And put themselves in a totally...
06:50Yeah.
06:51New bracket because of what they've added.
06:55While all the teams delivered
06:56their alfresco area and sheds last night,
06:59this morning at the Domain Open for Inspections,
07:02everyone's focus is on the boys' wine cellar.
07:05Oh, my gosh.
07:08Wow.
07:09I love it.
07:11Wow.
07:12So cool.
07:13The boys just smashed it out of the park.
07:15Three tens.
07:16Incredible.
07:18That's...
07:19Wow.
07:20Language.
07:21I tried so hard to fault it,
07:26but it honestly was freaking epic.
07:29Wow.
07:29Look at the floor.
07:30How amazing about it.
07:34Far out.
07:36Very cool.
07:37They nailed it.
07:39Ten out of ten out of ten out of ten out of ten out of ten.
07:41Oh, my God, I feel sorry for anybody else who's doing a cellar
07:45because this is just, like, you can't compete.
07:49You guys have a cellar coming up.
07:51We do.
07:51We do have a cellar coming up.
07:52I feel like we've got, like, big boots to fill.
07:55Yeah.
07:56I need to take a photo, so we can copy the whole thing.
08:02Wow, wow, we love.
08:03Wow, this is cool.
08:05Look at the amount of wine.
08:07You would find me down here all day.
08:09Imagine how much, how litty-titty-mick-litty
08:11we would get down here, Hans.
08:13Very well-deserved, and if I had my time again,
08:17I would come here with Robbie.
08:26Thanks, babe.
08:29The other space everyone is keen to check out this morning
08:31is in House 3.
08:34They came third last night with a score of 27 points.
08:38We wanted to be up there with the boys.
08:39We wanted to really test them.
08:41So that's why we threw so much at it.
08:43We created a speakeasy in the shed.
08:46Is this a shed?
08:47This does not feel like a shed.
08:51Is this compliant?
08:55I don't know if this is going to get signed off.
08:57This is such a gamble.
09:03Oh!
09:05Nice!
09:07Not compliant.
09:09Wow!
09:10This is a bar.
09:13You're not allowed to produce a room
09:16that you're going to spend longer than 40 minutes in.
09:20Like, if you're not supposed to encourage people to spend time in it,
09:22this is about as encouraging as it gets.
09:26I'm going out there and I'm getting drunk.
09:31That'll only take 20 minutes.
09:33Yeah, true.
09:34Oh!
09:36Oh my goodness.
09:39Wow.
09:40The shed was...
09:43illegal.
09:45Not allowed.
09:46That's what the shed was.
09:47The shed was the most gorgeous tasting room.
09:50Which I loved, don't get me wrong.
09:53But, not allowed.
09:58That was my plan.
09:59And I got declined on multiple occasions.
10:02So, I was pissed off.
10:03For me, it was like, how do you have what?
10:10It's okay.
10:12I know it's okay, but I'm allowed to be, like, pissed off about it being unfair.
10:18I ask all those questions, right?
10:20And we get told no.
10:21So, like, I'm like, how is it okay for one and not the other?
10:26I don't know.
10:26Don't worry about it.
10:27I'm worried about it.
10:28It is what it is.
10:29Who cares, Hannah?
10:30I can't.
10:31We move on.
10:32Two weeks to go.
10:33Just embrace it.
10:34It's fine.
10:35So, Candy, you were becoming frustrated as well.
10:37You seemed to get a bit upset.
10:39It's just Hans' attitude.
10:40She was so negative.
10:44Like, literally, if anything is to learn off watching the episode last night,
10:48it's you and I need to have more fun.
10:50It would take it way too seriously.
10:52It's a TV show, Hannah.
10:53It's not life or death.
10:55Yeah, I definitely want to enjoy the last couple of weeks.
10:59It's just, um, it's hard.
11:04Body's sore.
11:06Mind's gassed.
11:08Yeah, fatigue's setting in.
11:10I don't know, it's just like watching that last night.
11:12It's just, I look like such a kid.
11:17No, you don't, babe.
11:18No, you don't.
11:19You look like someone who's passionate about what they do.
11:21Yeah, it was a very hard, emotional morning for me.
11:30It's okay.
11:30I've had a lot.
11:31Yeah.
11:33We all got you.
11:34We got you guys.
11:35We got you.
11:36Thanks.
11:36We've had the, I've had the day.
11:38While Hand composes herself, the team's head to the green room to see the domain listings go live.
11:44Good to see the pictures on the domain board.
11:48Stunning.
11:49Oh, wow.
11:50Beautiful.
11:50Stunning.
11:51The pics on the domain board looked incredible.
11:53You deserve all the 10s.
11:55Thank you very much.
11:56It was interesting to watch last night's first episode, and I forgot how fast it all started
12:04to happen from week one.
12:06Talk to me.
12:07I want to dig a cellar.
12:10You want to dig a cellar?
12:11I want to put a cellar in.
12:13And then for last night, for it to be, yeah, it was special.
12:17After watching the episode last Sunday, we were like, we're going in and we're going
12:20to have some fun for the next two weeks.
12:22Yeah.
12:23We are going out with a bang and we're going to enjoy every last second.
12:26I just think it's important for Han and Ken that they know that we're all here for them.
12:32Homestretch though, guys.
12:33Homestretch two weeks to go, then we're going home.
12:35We'll be all right.
12:36We're surrounded by, like, the most incredible neighbours here on the block.
12:41We will carry you through.
12:42We will hug you.
12:43We will love on you guys.
12:45Han and I are on this ride together and we both get frustrated together and we feel
12:50together and we get disappointed together.
12:52But I love you to bits.
12:53I love you to bits too.
12:54And you're doing amazing.
12:56You've done amazing.
13:01Thanks.
13:04It's too beautiful.
13:15It's the first day of Backyard and Pool Week, the busiest week on the block.
13:23And the stakes are high as every team wants to claim they have the best backyard come option.
13:31Landscaping week is probably one of the most important weeks.
13:34And if you win landscaping week, you've got a really good crack at taking home the competition.
13:40Our blockheads have been working hard with their landscapers over the past few weeks to get their plans for their backyards approved so they can hit the ground running this morning.
13:49They're going to need to make the most of every minute because come Sunday, they'll deliver some of the biggest backyards we've ever seen, with each one measuring more than a thousand square metres.
14:02From day one, we said kitchen and backyard landscaping is our number one priority.
14:08Best week of the block.
14:09Yeah.
14:10We can't wait.
14:10We can't wait.
14:10Full on week.
14:12Budget is 50k, which is not.
14:15Not enough.
14:17At all.
14:17What does 50k get you in the landscaping world?
14:19Three trees.
14:22Pretty much.
14:23This is why Scotty's from day one said start your landscape now and you need more money.
14:28Yep.
14:29From the beginning of the competition, I encourage teams to save as much money as they could for landscaping.
14:36This week, they'll need to complete their entire backyard, pool area and pool cabana.
14:41And they'll also need to make sure they have enough money left in their budgets to finish next week's front yard.
14:49Because it was always going to be a hard task, last week, Combank stepped in and offered some help.
14:56Combank are giving each team a budget boost of $50,000.
15:02Oh, no!
15:05Who has the most amount of money at this point?
15:09Who's doing okay with the budget?
15:11I think House 3, Britain Towers.
15:13House 3's probably got the most money, I would think.
15:16They've won a lot.
15:16They won 50 grand in a week.
15:18But then, Sonny and Lucia don't really tend to spend much money.
15:21Ben and Emma.
15:22You know, they won the 50k for the domain.
15:24$50,000 in cash thanks to domain.
15:27Well, I've done the math and I can tell you exactly how much each team is spending on their backyards.
15:35Em and Ben have allocated the most at $130,000, which also needs to pay for the wine cellar they want to present this week.
15:44Britt and Taz plan to spend $100,000.
15:48Sonny and Lucia, $90,000.
15:51Robbie and Matt are spending $70,000.
15:54But they've also won a $50,000 fireplace and a $50,000 pickleball court to include in their backyard.
16:02So that leaves Han and Can, who have the least amount to spend, just $50,000, which, according to Taz, should get them three trees.
16:13It's hard this week.
16:15Dive straight to House 2.
16:18Because the backyards this year are so big, I also suggest that the blockheads start their landscaping early to give them the best chance of finishing on time.
16:27House 3 and House 5 are the only ones who took me up on this advice.
16:32They've both had landscapers here for weeks already, giving them a clear advantage heading into this week.
16:38So we started landscaping three weeks ago.
16:41All the levels have been done, all the concrete that we needed to be poured is poured.
16:46It's going really well.
16:46We're in a really, really good spot.
16:48Quite happy where we're at.
16:50Britt and Taz's landscaper, Troy, is no stranger to the block,
16:54having been on board for the past three seasons.
16:58He's known for his modern contemporary style and has produced some beautiful backyards,
17:04including Tom and Sarah James' winning landscape back in Gisborne.
17:09It's good to have Troy on board because he's so meticulous with everything he needs to get done.
17:13So not only does he do the landscaping side, the render side of things and everything like that,
17:18but he'll also get on the tools.
17:19He's a very good project manager.
17:21I reckon we're in a good shape, best spot.
17:25And once you put all these trees in, the creek through here, mate, it's next level.
17:29So how we're trying to set ourselves apart is being very on brief with Dalesford.
17:34So people here love landscapes.
17:37It's all about natural beauty, sustainability, wellness.
17:40So our house is a wellness house, so incorporating that into the landscapes as well.
17:45Our plan is to walk out from your back door through your refresco.
17:48You've got your seating area around a beautiful stone-cladded fireplace.
17:52You've got a nice little runway of grass.
17:54You turn left and you go to the wellness area, which is your sauna, your ice bath, spa.
17:59And then from there, you've got the tall cabana.
18:02And we have beautiful timber arbors from trees that have fallen down in the area.
18:06A natural creek runoff.
18:08We have a greenhouse, chicken coop, veggie gardens.
18:12It is going to be epic.
18:13The plans are there.
18:15Let's hope we pull it off.
18:17House 3's epic plans also include an epic amount of plans,
18:21with more than 2,000 trees and shrubs going into their backyard.
18:25So this morning, Troy is meeting with Julie from Pope to talk about irrigation.
18:30As you can see, the plants are going in this morning.
18:33Yeah, it all looks fantastic.
18:34So we are supplying a lot of the irrigation kits here for the block.
18:38Amazing.
18:38We're doing the Pope PC drip line,
18:41which is perfect for all this heavy planting through here.
18:44Yep.
18:44So it's just really easy to use.
18:47You just need to roll it out.
18:48It's got little emitters every 30 centimetres along,
18:51which will just emit an even flow of water.
18:53All the houses this year will also have a rainbird controller system.
18:58That can be accessed via an app.
19:00So the owners will be able to control the flow of water with a touch of a button.
19:04So you can control your irrigation if you're on the couch,
19:07if you're on holidays, even overseas.
19:09And you're looking at like 30% water savings by using a system like this.
19:19Aidan turns up.
19:20Can we go over to your shed?
19:25Yeah, of course, Doc.
19:28I love Ado.
19:30I think he's a great dude.
19:31I just don't like him when he comes to my house.
19:36The brief for the sheds that were delivered last night
19:38was that they couldn't be a habitable room,
19:41meaning you wouldn't spend more than an hour at a time in them.
19:44But what Britton Taz delivered has raised some concerns.
19:49This morning, we've been having a look around with our Britton surveyor
19:51at all the sheds.
19:55And he's not terribly happy in here.
19:56And not happy this one?
19:57No.
19:58Why?
19:59It's the fact that it's not really what we were talking about,
20:02what it was going to be, really.
20:04That's what's in the plan.
20:05We spoke about the plastering.
20:07We spoke about cabinets, insulation.
20:10Yep, yep.
20:10We spoke about all those things, yeah.
20:11And we also spoke about, you know,
20:14how the whole thing's presented in the end.
20:17And, you know, a block of storage on a plan
20:20compared to a nice stone bench
20:23and, you know, there's a bit of a difference
20:25between having a wine cellar with a bench
20:29you can have a glass of wine at
20:30and having a flat-out bar.
20:32Yeah, I thought it was a bar area.
20:33Why would you think that?
20:34Describe this place to me, please.
20:35This place is like a shed as a shed can be.
20:38It's got skylights.
20:40It's got floor, a half-foot floor.
20:43It's got floor-to-ceiling wine.
20:45So it's a bar.
20:47Well, it's not a bar.
20:48It's sort of a cellar, but not a cellar.
20:50If we had have seen a drawing
20:52with this big kitchen bench in here,
20:54I would have said, you've got no way.
20:57The basic bit is,
20:59for us to finish these builds,
21:00and get an occupancy permit
21:02for you to be able to sell it at auction.
21:05We currently don't have our surveyors' approval
21:08for this room as it is,
21:11so we've got to change it.
21:15What the hell?
21:16Like, we've sacrificed three months,
21:18you know, of our lives to be here
21:20at the end of the day
21:21to try and sell the house
21:22to set our young family up.
21:24And then for him to say,
21:25well, you can't sell your house,
21:26you're like, well, that's why we're here.
21:28So a wine cellar's not a habitable space, right?
21:33Correct.
21:34So like, same with the boys,
21:35as an example.
21:36But they've got a wine cellar
21:38with a bench there, yeah?
21:40Yeah.
21:40They've got a large amount of wine being stored.
21:43We're sitting in an area
21:44with a nice big open kitchen bench
21:46with skylights.
21:47That's not a kitchen.
21:48That's not, that's just,
21:49they've got the exact same sign as us.
21:50The exact same thing.
21:51It's just, we're getting double standards here.
21:53Yeah, it's not bad.
21:54I don't think you're getting double standards here.
21:55Yeah, Reagan?
21:56I don't think you are at all.
21:57Most of that room is dominated
21:59by it being a wine cellar.
22:01Very little of this room
22:02is about it being a wine cellar.
22:05It's not a wine cellar.
22:07So if I add more wine,
22:08essentially is what you're saying,
22:09I can get some more custom work
22:11made up in there to put more wine.
22:13So what is it?
22:13So you're telling us a problem.
22:15Yeah.
22:15Okay, we're obviously not builders.
22:16You're the one who's going to tick off on this.
22:18So what's the solution?
22:19I'm not here to try and tell you
22:21what to do or how to do it, right?
22:23That's your job, right?
22:24You need to tell us we can't sell it out.
22:26But for me, for me,
22:28it's more of a bar
22:29than it is a wine cellar, yeah?
22:31If you make it more of a wine cellar
22:32and not a bar,
22:35then the building's going to go,
22:36okay, cool, that's a wine cellar.
22:40Why don't you sketch something up
22:42and we'll get the survey to approve it,
22:44but put more detail in it.
22:46Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
22:48Oh, something cut.
22:50It just dampens what is meant to be
22:53one of our most exciting weeks
22:55in landscaping week.
22:56Like, we've been looking forward to this
22:58since we started.
23:01It's just so frustrating because...
23:03Yeah, because you try and do the right thing, right?
23:05And get everything ticked off
23:06and it was
23:07and then for them now to say,
23:08oh, actually...
23:09Actually, we won't sell you out.
23:10Like, it's just so rubbish.
23:12It doesn't make any sense
23:14and we're just getting to give it.
23:17I can't wait to go home.
23:19Couldn't agree more.
23:20Yes.
23:20To get even more of the block,
23:29head to Domain and see the latest block with sinks.
23:31See room reveals, floor plans
23:33and behind-the-scenes content.
23:35Only on Domain.
23:36So mid-morning backyard week
23:52and it's quite interesting to see the teams
23:54that had their landscapers here weeks ago.
23:55They're coasting.
23:57So house three and house five,
23:58they're in a good spot.
23:59But houses one, two and house four,
24:02they're way behind.
24:07Walking into this week,
24:09we're feeling confident.
24:10Obviously, we have all this land,
24:12but we're so lucky
24:12because we have this huge
24:14seven-and-a-half-ton fireplace
24:15and then an 18-by-eight bigger ball court.
24:19No other house has got that.
24:21Robby and Matt's landscape of Paul
24:23is located in Dalesburg.
24:25He's been on the block once before.
24:28In 2018,
24:29he delivered a winning terrace
24:31for Norm and Jess at the Gatwick.
24:34Paul wants perfection
24:35and he's got a really good team of local guys
24:39and they work really well together.
24:42These guys are incredible.
24:43As soon as they walk out,
24:44because that's the shot, isn't it?
24:46Let's make this look ridiculous.
24:49So the vision for this week,
24:50we have a seated lounge area
24:53with the incredible Trends fireplace.
24:57Behind that, we have two pools.
24:59We have a pool cabana.
25:02Behind that, we have a dream court,
25:04spickle ball court.
25:05The backyard is an entertainer
25:08and family dream.
25:10Like the kids will be running around
25:12on the grass.
25:13There's the play pickleball,
25:15jump in the pool.
25:16It's amazing.
25:21As part of Backyards this week,
25:23each team will also present a pool cabana
25:25that's already been printed by Contour 3D.
25:30Each cabana includes a powder room
25:32with a space for a toilet and sink
25:34and can be styled however teams choose.
25:36Oh yeah, we're going to do a cabana this week.
25:38What should we do?
25:39In Adelaide, a cabana is a meat stick.
25:44And for those who know Matt...
25:46No.
25:47Our issue is this room here,
25:48we've got to get that sorted.
25:49So that's going to be Matt and I,
25:51or my biggest focus this week,
25:52Matt will probably be in the garden with you.
25:53Yeah.
25:54I just grabbed the pool cabana
25:56and was like,
25:56I'll take charge of this.
25:58It's a very awkward room,
26:00so we're just trying to work out
26:01how we can get at least a three-person sauna in here.
26:06I think it'll be the icing on the cake
26:07for the whole house.
26:08If he can secure the sauna,
26:10Robbie's plan is to include it
26:12on the left-hand side of the cabana
26:13with a bench seat in the middle
26:15and separate powder room on the right.
26:17I just spoke to the electricians
26:21and they said,
26:22yeah, we can get some power to a sauna.
26:24The only other person
26:25that I have to get approval from is Matt.
26:27Because he won't pull the trigger
26:30on anything risky.
26:32So Matt's the head of finance,
26:36the keeper of funds,
26:38and I have to run everything past Matt
26:40because I have an idea,
26:43spending habit,
26:44which was taken off me
26:45after a couple of weeks.
26:46And Matt's been in charge of budget ever since.
26:50Oh, hello?
26:50Oh, hello.
26:52Um, I just want to speak to you
26:53about the cabana.
26:57Yeah?
26:57Um, I've spoken to the sauna people.
27:01Best price they can do is $3,000.
27:04Yeah.
27:04I think I hold off on saying yes just now
27:08until we work out how much we can actually afford.
27:13We had to rein it in this week
27:15because after we paid all of our invoices
27:18for the wine cellar,
27:20we don't have as much to put into the backyard.
27:24Well, what's the other option
27:25if we don't do a sauna?
27:26A furniture or cabinetry
27:28or something like that.
27:32It's wellness.
27:32Yeah, it's wellness.
27:33You need a sauna.
27:34You've also got to pay for the sauna.
27:37That's the thing.
27:38That's your problem.
27:39See, that's...
27:39I think we do it
27:42because if we keep delaying it,
27:43we're just going to run out of ideas
27:44and it's just going to be a lounge area.
27:47All right, cool.
27:47Let's do it.
27:49Cool.
27:52A lot of our saying is like,
27:55oh, that's future Robbie and Matt's problem.
27:57No, that's how you operate, mate.
27:59He didn't want to do the cellar.
28:00But now it's always like,
28:01oh, that's the best idea in the world.
28:05Head in the clouds,
28:06feet on the ground.
28:09Just like this other idea.
28:11Let's see what the result is this week.
28:12Let's see.
28:17This is the landscape team, boys.
28:18This is Adrian.
28:19Tyler.
28:20Are you all right?
28:22Yeah, sweet.
28:22Our landscape has arrived Sunday from Queensland
28:25and started Monday.
28:26We had poured a little bit of the concrete for it.
28:29Other than that, we've done no landscaping.
28:31Yeah, so, yeah, we have a lot to do.
28:35House Falls landscaper Dylan
28:36has some previous experience on the block.
28:39He's the brother of ex-contestant Josh
28:41and was on-site helping him and Elise
28:44back in Elstonwick.
28:46Dylan from Jadebilt,
28:47he has organised all our trees, all the soil.
28:50Dylan knows his stuff.
28:51Yeah.
28:51As well as their landscaper Dylan,
28:54Sonny and Alicia also work with landscape designer
28:57Paul Pritchard
28:58to come up with a plan for their backyard.
29:02We step off the back of our alfresco.
29:04We have a hard-paved path
29:06all the way down to the pool.
29:07On the right-hand side, we have an open-air arbour.
29:10Straight ahead, you'll have the pool.
29:11Down over to the right, on our lower section,
29:13we have a veggie garden.
29:15Then off to the left, we have a bocce court,
29:17the pool house, fire pit,
29:18and then a big grassed area at the back.
29:21So what element of that
29:22is going to set your backyard apart from the rest?
29:24I think the openness of ours.
29:27I don't like the idea of filling the entire space.
29:30Just because you have it
29:31doesn't mean that there has to be
29:33something going on in every nook and cranny.
29:36We'll start swinging around.
29:37Yep.
29:39There it goes.
29:41We know the task at hand.
29:42This week's going to be busy.
29:44The aim today is to get as many pavers down
29:45as we can possibly.
29:46Obviously, we're slow to start,
29:48but hopefully quick to finish.
29:58Being outside, it's a whole new playing field.
30:00And just the scale of this week's room reveal
30:03is ginormous.
30:05The plan is...
30:07We've got to do this whole backyard.
30:09This week, we've got a pretty incredible design
30:12that's been created by our landscaper, Colin.
30:14Colin draws on his artistic background
30:18to create his landscape designs,
30:20and he's never been on the block before.
30:23There's so many trees, Colin.
30:27And this is the little job.
30:28We're replanting Baleford.
30:32As you are standing on the alfresco,
30:34you will look down,
30:35and there'll be some little steps on the right
30:38with some bigger landing steps on the left there.
30:40In the middle of the landing steps,
30:41we're going to have a massive planter
30:43with a beautiful tree in the middle of it.
30:45So then when you step off the steps,
30:47you'll go straight onto pavers.
30:49The pavers will follow down onto the pool area
30:53where you'll find the pool cabana.
30:55Fire pit to the right of that
30:57with veggie gardens around there.
30:59This backyard's point of difference
31:01will probably be the tree selection.
31:03Yeah.
31:04Plant selection's like 90% natives.
31:06We're going to have a lot of trees as well.
31:08Yeah.
31:08Our landscaper prides himself on selecting trees
31:11that suit the area.
31:13You really do want to be looking out over your garden
31:15that seamlessly blends into the hills behind.
31:19Yeah.
31:20And the other thing,
31:21with our house being so elevated,
31:23I definitely think that that's a real advantage for us.
31:27It's our main point of difference.
31:28Yeah.
31:28And it's our main point of difference
31:29to show this week in particular.
31:31Yeah.
31:33Em and Ben are hoping to make the most
31:35of this point of difference
31:36by building a wine cellar
31:37underneath the right wing of their house.
31:41But with the way the space is looking at the moment,
31:43they've got a lot of work ahead of them
31:45in order to pull it off by Sunday.
31:47The cellar is currently a concrete slab.
31:52Yeah, it's just the footings.
31:53Nothing that we can even give dimensions for
31:57to start doing some, you know,
31:59cabinetry take-offs or designs.
32:02Furniture or anything.
32:03Yeah.
32:05Yeah, we won't be able to deliver the cellar
32:06to the level of the...
32:07Yes, we won't.
32:08I want to finish the cellar
32:10to the same standards as the boys.
32:12As in joinery and things like that.
32:13Yeah.
32:14The boys delivered such an incredible cellar
32:16and at the moment I'm looking around at our cellar
32:18and it looks like a mess.
32:21But they started building their cellar week one.
32:24They did.
32:26So I've just got to get on the phone
32:28and try and find some more carpenters, I reckon.
32:30You need labour.
32:31Find some more help, yeah.
32:32You've got the cash, you just need labour.
32:33Yeah.
32:34It just seems a little bit unachievable at the moment.
32:37I just don't know how we're going to pull it off.
32:39It's the first day of Backyard and Pool Week
32:51and the block site is buzzing
32:53with more than a hundred tradies
32:55working across all five houses.
33:02And over at House 2,
33:03after an emotional morning for Han,
33:05Can is bringing the positivity.
33:09I'm feeling excited to have some fun with my number one.
33:18And, yeah, it's landscape week.
33:20Huge week ahead of us.
33:21Massive two weeks.
33:23We're going to polish our food.
33:24We're going to come home strong.
33:25We're going to make the most idyllic,
33:27beautiful Japanese Zen garden.
33:29I can see some rocks.
33:30I can see some dirt.
33:31And I'm liking what I'm seeing.
33:34So before we even came to the block,
33:36we decided we were going to do
33:37a Japanese-inspired garden
33:39with Christian Jenkins,
33:40who's an absolute legend
33:41at doing Japanese Zen gardens.
33:44That's the vibe we're going for.
33:46Christian has been on the block twice before.
33:49He was Omar and Oz's landscaper back in Gisborne.
33:52And he designed Mitch and Mark's winning front yard in Hampton.
33:57But despite his experience,
33:58he's a little worried about the task ahead.
34:02Landscape this whole backyard in one week.
34:04Now, I'm just really nervous.
34:10I feel it's nearly unrealistic
34:13to think that you could landscape
34:16this whole backyard in a week.
34:18Anyway, keep calm and drink tea.
34:24Keep calm and drink tea.
34:27House 2's Japanese-inspired backyard
34:30includes sandstone paving
34:32to connect their custom-built fireplace,
34:34pool area and pool cabana.
34:36They'll have grass around the perimeter
34:38and several large rocks scattered throughout.
34:42And to finish the space,
34:44they're going to build custom wooden arbors
34:46inspired by traditional Japanese torii gates.
34:49So torii gates are used in Japan
34:53as an entry to a sacred place
34:56or a spiritual place.
34:57They're used to separate zones as well.
35:02So we intend to use them in our garden
35:04to separate out different zones and entryways.
35:08Of course, the girls are so low on budget,
35:11they're planning to make the torii gates themselves
35:14from timber available in my sawmill.
35:17They've also had to pull back on some other plans.
35:20They're no longer able to have a water feature
35:22and they'll be the only team without a sauna.
35:25Not having budget, it's hard.
35:27We all know I'm a perfectionist,
35:29so it's been really hard for me
35:31to accept that we can't have the champagne
35:34on the beer budget.
35:35I think, yeah, we're quite disappointed
35:39with the fact that we haven't been able
35:41to give Christian a bit more money
35:43to be more creative.
35:45Anyway, it is what it is.
35:47Sometimes miracles happen on a tight budget.
35:49More money, more problems.
35:54As we reach the end of the competition,
35:56Han and Kan are the only ones with money problems.
35:59Most of our teams are running very low on blockbucks
36:02and with a backyard pool area
36:04and pool cabana to style this week.
36:06Last night, I had a surprise for everyone.
36:09Freedom Furniture have decided to give all of you
36:13$10,000 to spend in store.
36:15You're back out.
36:16Yeah, good day.
36:20I absolutely love Freedom,
36:22so when Scotty announced last night
36:24that we were getting an extra $10,000,
36:25I was wasting no time.
36:27I had seen some pool furniture
36:34that I would absolutely love.
36:38Do you need it?
36:40I think I would need two of them.
36:42Two.
36:43Perfect.
36:44I got two sun lounges,
36:46got a large umbrella,
36:47a couple of side tables,
36:49I got some lanterns,
36:51basically everything that was left in Freedom
36:53that I hadn't bought in previous weeks.
36:55Yeah, you've done well.
37:04Thank you so much.
37:06Didn't take me long to spend my money at all.
37:08I've still got some, actually.
37:10Keeping it in the, uh...
37:11Keeping it in my back pocket, just in case.
37:14And how's lunch going for you?
37:16I'm just, I'm absolutely starving,
37:17so it's great.
37:20Love Jats.
37:20Who doesn't love Jats?
37:29Back at the block,
37:30Alicia's tradies are also breaking for lunch.
37:33I want a photo!
37:35Leave me alone!
37:36I want a photo!
37:36I want something to do, please!
37:38Leave me alone!
37:38With so many hungry tradies on site today,
37:41Bunnings are keeping them fuelled
37:43with a barbecue fundraiser
37:44for a local primary school.
37:47I'm so hungry.
37:48I'm on my time!
38:02There's a tree!
38:03How sick is that?
38:05Wow!
38:05In house one with their first tree now planted,
38:09Emmer and Ben are meeting with Freedom's stylist Serena
38:11to discuss furniture options for this week's spaces.
38:17I popped together a couple of mood boards
38:20that we can kind of use as inspiration.
38:22I had a consult with Freedom and I went crazy.
38:24I picked some sun lounges, a beautiful bar,
38:29I picked some chairs to go in the backyard
38:31and a few styling options as well.
38:35Two, do you reckon two sun lounges?
38:37Two sun lounges.
38:38But after my meeting with Serena,
38:41I could see that the concrete was all getting set up
38:43ready to be poured
38:44and it just looked like a lot of concrete.
38:47So I mentioned it to Ben really quickly.
38:49It's all just going to be paving.
38:51That whole thing.
38:52What are we going to put on it?
38:56A bit late now.
38:57House one's current landscaping plans include a large area of pavers
39:03that will flow down from the deck to the pool.
39:07The boys had just spent all morning forming all this area up.
39:11The truck was like on its way, ready to pour all the concrete.
39:13But it was killing me.
39:14I was like, there's too much concrete here.
39:16Yeah.
39:16It looks like a skate car.
39:18I know we're pressed for time.
39:19Can we potentially just put a little patch of not concrete in there?
39:23Sam suggested putting just like a big circle in the middle of it
39:28to soften it with a bit of grass, a bit of greenery.
39:31If we're going to do it, we wouldn't need to do it now.
39:34It just needs a big circle there, just somewhere there.
39:37Everybody jumped on it and marked it out, cut it all out.
39:40I'm really sorry.
39:41I know, you're cutting it for time.
39:46I think it'll look better.
39:48Yeah.
39:48Thank you, everyone.
39:49Love everyone.
39:53It's Monday afternoon at Backyard and Pool Week
40:10and concrete has been poured, bathing is going down
40:13and fridges are being stopped.
40:17And over at House 4, Leisha is escaping the chaos.
40:21What are you doing in there, Leisha?
40:23You're going to be shopping online, are we?
40:25Yes, I'm block shopping.
40:27I need a couch and some furniture for outdoors.
40:31Sunny and Alicia are yet to win a room.
40:33However, last night they did score a perfect 10 from Darren.
40:38Love Darren.
40:40Which means they get a 10 grand cash injection to their budget.
40:45We've never seen the big bickies before.
40:47This is new to us.
40:48And to be personally delivered our big bickies, that was pretty cool.
40:51Look at those bickies.
40:53Big bickies.
40:54That's cash.
40:55Wow.
40:57Thank you, Warren.
40:58Thank you, Warren.
40:59Let's talk for a moment about the luck of a win.
41:01Is it hurting or is it just something you're rolling with?
41:04We want to win.
41:05Yeah.
41:06We would love a win.
41:07But at this point in the game, we just...
41:10If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.
41:11There's no point in setting your heart on it.
41:12No.
41:13Yeah.
41:14This week is your week.
41:15You're trying to be hardest.
41:16Come on.
41:17You're trying to be hardest.
41:17All right, I see you.
41:18See you, mate.
41:19Thanks, Scotty.
41:19Has anyone gone through the block and not won a run?
41:25Uh, yep.
41:30Season 21.
41:32Sunny and Alicia.
41:35We're losers.
41:36We're big, fat losers.
41:40It's Manscaped Week.
41:41We've got lots to do.
41:42So, my best mate from Adelaide, Jordan.
41:48Second best mate.
41:50He's an excavator.
41:52He owns premium excavations in Adelaide.
41:54And we have a lot of soil to move.
41:57So, we called him up and brought in the big dog.
41:59Oh!
42:00Yeah!
42:01G'day, mate!
42:03How you going?
42:04Oh!
42:04Oh!
42:05I can't breathe.
42:07Oh!
42:07He's a laugh.
42:09He's another version to us.
42:10We're pretty much like a tripod.
42:14Don't do some work.
42:15Nah.
42:15Do some digging.
42:16You are, though.
42:16Yeah, absolutely.
42:17That's what I'm here for.
42:18It was just that sense of home and relief and, um, you know, another face, chameleon face
42:24that we could use.
42:25And he is a machine.
42:27On the machine.
42:28Yeah.
42:28You need to make some dirt.
42:29Very good.
42:30Dirt.
42:30Dirt daddy.
42:31Well, I've got to get him into induction at one o'clock, but then once he's done, he's
42:34all yours.
42:35Unreal.
42:35Loving it, man.
42:36Yeah.
42:40Of course, it's the beginning of Backyard Week.
42:42The facades of the houses are now starting to take shape.
42:53This series of the block, we've got three houses where we've included James Hardy clothing.
42:58You know, they're sort of sweet, our products, allowed us to create individual looks.
43:04What I've got in the background behind me, we've got the matrix board in the darker colour,
43:10and then we've got the linear weather board.
43:13House five is boredom batten.
43:16You know, it's the fourth time we've done boredom batten.
43:19There are so many benefits and reasons why we've done it.
43:22You know, it's about the longevity of the house, plays into our sustainability and resilience
43:27theme for this year.
43:29Stephan John won.
43:30Yeah.
43:30The series of the block with a similar look.
43:34Fireproof, wetterproof, termiteproof, and it's going to last a million years.
43:40House four, we've used the Australia cladding.
43:43Like, it really sets off the whole sort of box modern style, which is what this house is.
43:49Yeah, can't wait to see this done.
43:50We're so excited that we ended up with this house compared to others, because I think
43:54it stands out on the block.
44:05So talk to me about the rocks.
44:07Oh, the old rock saga.
44:09So, house two, landscaper, asked us to store their rocks for them, and we said, no worries.
44:21They just need to be gone by the end of today.
44:25That was last Thursday.
44:27That was last Thursday.
44:28It's now...
44:29Monday.
44:30Monday.
44:35And now the fences are up.
44:36Last week, the fences by modular walls started going up, which means teams no longer have
44:43easy access between each other's backyards.
44:47You know how I got those rocks delivered next door?
44:49Yeah.
44:50And I still had a few to get around here.
44:53Yeah, you still had, like, four or five.
44:54You used them in the garden.
44:56I've just seen them then.
44:57They're just...
44:58They're boxed up on the other side, right in the concrete.
45:00I just think that's unbelievably devilish.
45:03When the rocks were there laying next to each other,
45:06you couldn't really tell which was which.
45:08When the digger operator moved ours,
45:11I think he's picked up a couple of Christians and put them in our garden.
45:16And I reckon it's really cheeky.
45:18I don't think there was two big ones of mine that went in there too.
45:20No, no, there's not one.
45:21No, no.
45:21I haven't got none of your rocks.
45:23I've got natural field granite.
45:24Yours are blue.
45:26They're mine at Hillview.
45:27Yeah, I've got no Hillview.
45:29I would never contaminate my rocks.
45:31I'd only heard that Christian was quite the sole...
45:35Namaste guy.
45:39He wasn't very Namaste about his rocks.
45:43There's some in the landscape that you've used.
45:45Yeah, I think there's four in the landscape.
45:47It's just so...
45:48That's OK.
45:49Regardless, they're not getting shifted now
45:50because you can't get them out.
45:52You can't take an escalator over all the Rio.
45:54All right, our point of difference to the landscape is these rocks.
45:59OK.
45:59And now they're in your landscape.
46:01I was like, bro, they all look the same to me.
46:04A rock's a rock.
46:05Yeah.
46:05Well, the thing is, we were lovely enough
46:08to be able to store your rocks for you guys.
46:10Yeah.
46:10And for longer than the day,
46:12the deal was we would have the rocks there
46:14till the end of that day.
46:15Yeah, that's right.
46:15And they're actually still there.
46:16Yeah.
46:17So I think, if anything, we've been doing you guys a favour.
46:21Does that entitle you to use the rocks?
46:23Well, someone just had to grab me.
46:25That's OK.
46:25We just agree to disagree and we get on with it.
46:27It wasn't like, we're stealing these rocks.
46:30No.
46:30It was just like...
46:31They were next to the rocks of ours
46:33that looked exactly the same.
46:35As I was saying, our point of difference are those rocks.
46:37Yes.
46:38And those rocks are now in your garden.
46:42Yeah.
46:42Finders keepers.
46:43Yeah.
46:44Losers weepers.
46:45Tough titties.
46:46Monday's MG getaway.
47:03We went to the lake house at Dalesford.
47:08Wow.
47:08This is amazing.
47:14Luxury.
47:15Luxury.
47:18Wow.
47:19This is stunning.
47:20Look at this view.
47:24That place is absolutely insane.
47:26Cheers, mate.
47:28Cheers.
47:29Cheers to the celebration.
47:31Celebrating the cellar.
47:33And three turns.
47:34And three turns, obviously, yes.
47:35Off to dinner, so we were lucky enough to sit in the library area with Scotty.
47:41Just because you've got three tins, we've got beluga caviar donuts.
47:45Oh, nothing starts the night like a beluga caviar donut.
47:49Oh, you don't get that every day.
47:51That's because you've got a 30 out of 30.
47:54And then a special guest arrived.
47:58Hey, guys.
47:59How are you?
48:00In comes Dave Franklin.
48:02Yeah!
48:05Award-winning landscaper Dave Franklin first appeared on the block in 2012.
48:12Over the years, he's worked with several teams to produce some amazing landscaping.
48:16And his designs have taken out the win five times.
48:20Meet the new miles.
48:23In recent years, he's come on board as a judge.
48:25And on Sunday, he'll be scoring the team's backyards.
48:30I hear you had a big win last night, so I've got a surprise for you guys.
48:33Oh, do you want to do the honours?
48:35And there it is.
48:36$10,000 thanks to MG.
48:39Wow!
48:40Oh, there you go.
48:41We can talk about what you've got to do with this $10,000 on your garden.
48:43Show me the plans.
48:45We're pretty lucky.
48:45We're sitting down with Scotty and Dave Franklin, going over our landscaping plans for this week.
48:50So that's a huge advantage.
48:52I do love the fireplace.
48:54I think it's, you know, something that's out of this world.
48:57It's how to make that work with the pool, the pickleball court and everything like that.
49:01He gave us lots of advice on plants and layout, as well as we need to put in some mature trees.
49:08I would be trying to get something that looks like it's been here for 10 years.
49:12Okay.
49:12You know, something that tells a story.
49:13Yeah.
49:13Plus, block your neighbours out.
49:14Okay, so don't be scared of buying something at four or five metres' talk.
49:18When you have someone like Dave with his years of expertise and knowledge giving us a bit
49:24of a clearer direction, that really helped.
49:26Oh, you asked me to drop this off?
49:27Oh, this I did ask you to do.
49:29That's a first for the lake house and toolbox with big biggies on it.
49:33Because the boys scored three 10s last night with a perfect score, 30 out of 30, they also
49:40get a massive cash injection to their budget thanks to Arnott's.
49:44Three lots of 10.
49:4730 grand.
49:49And there's another 10.
49:50Hey, there it is.
49:52Let me just see if there's no secret gnomes or anything in here.
49:54No, there's no gnomes, mate.
49:56Congratulations, boys.
49:57Cheers to you.
49:59Well done, guys.
49:59Thanks, mate.
50:00Welcome, Dave.
50:01Thank you, Dave.
50:01Cheers, mate.
50:02Cheers.
50:11We're ordering macs for Chump's dinner.
50:13Oh, mac and dee's.
50:15I'm thinking like 10 big macs, 10 large fries.
50:20How many Chump's dinners have you guys attended?
50:22How many weeks have we been here?
50:23We are yet to miss a Chump's dinner.
50:25I think we are basically the king and queen of Chump's.
50:28Chump and chumpette.
50:30Dinner is...
50:32Thanks.
50:33Mac and dee's.
50:34Yeah, it's a big day on Mondays.
50:36You know, you've got your walk-arounds and then, you know, some head builder might come
50:40and yell at you.
50:41It's not a wine cellar.
50:42If you make it more of a wine cellar and not a bar, then the building's going to go,
50:48OK, cool, that's a wine cellar.
50:50Did everyone get approval today from the surveyor?
50:52Because the surveyor was coming around today, remember?
50:54Like, to make sure the sheds were above board.
50:56The question was asked about if everyone's compliant.
50:59We just sort of stayed silent.
51:02As the weeks grow on, your battery is more drained.
51:05You are more fatigued.
51:07For us, right, if people are constantly coming at us, it does feel personal.
51:11So we're just sort of pulling back a little bit to protect our own space and try and enjoy
51:15these last few weeks.
51:17And it seems Britt and Taz aren't the only ones who are choosing to be tight-lipped with
51:23their neighbours tonight.
51:24There was some chatter around secret gnomes.
51:28Yes.
51:29There's definitely a secret gnomes.
51:31You reckon?
51:32How long have you had the gnome?
51:34We've had the gnome since Domain.
51:36So Domain was like week eight.
51:38So we've found a secret gnome.
51:41So there's a bonus point.
51:45We don't have it.
51:46The boys could have it, though.
51:48The boys could have it.
51:49So I want the gnome.
51:50We're doing a very good job at playing along and pretending that we don't know even what
51:56a secret gnome is.
51:58The secret gnome's different.
51:59You have to say, hey, Scotty.
52:01We want to play our secret gnome.
52:03And everyone's like, what?
52:04Oh, really?
52:04Yeah.
52:05So we're definitely going to use the gnome on funfix.
52:07Because we can't use the gnome next week.
52:09The gnome is deleted after this week.
52:10So we have to play it.
52:14Everyone feeling good for tomorrow?
52:16I'm excited for more obstacles to overcome tomorrow.
52:20And, yeah, like, let's see what goes wrong.
52:23Yeah, I can't wait for that.
52:24Who's ripping up their concrete tomorrow?
52:26We are.
52:29Tomorrow night, the question is answered.
52:32About 10 mil over 100 mil.
52:33This may have to be ripped up.
52:35Oh, it'll look like we're going to have to lose all this paving.
52:37Pulling up a slab of concrete was the last thing that we wanted to do.
52:41Oh, my God, are you serious?
52:44Devastating.
52:48Iceberg!
52:49Dead ahead!
52:50Also, the backyards continue to take shape.
52:53It's the biggest wood on the block, my arbor.
52:57Now, that's an arbor.
52:58That's huge.
53:01Aren't Han and Ken struggled to get on the same page?
53:05Candice has just snubbed the cabana.
53:07I'm not doing what everyone else is doing.
53:09And where does that get us?
53:10To the bottom of the leaderboard.
53:12The cabana is a cabana.
53:13And that is all it shall be.
53:15Oh, my God, Candice, you're driving an absolute bonkers.
53:17Please stop.
