Dozens of lonely farmers from across Western Australia travelled to the state's large agricultural show last week, looking for love. The Royal Show, known for it's wood chopping, dagwood dogs and prize bulls, broke new ground this year with it's first ever single- mingle speed dating event for farmers.
00:00Don't run by too fast. This is your chance to find love.
00:07Dating is hard. Now imagine doing it in a country town.
00:12There's no real dating for me and where I am from.
00:16You like to get out in a bed, I think. Like, you don't want to necessarily date somebody you already know.
00:21And it's a bit weird going out with someone from your hometown.
00:24Do you ever have an issue of being related to...?
00:27Yes. Yes. Yes, a lot.
00:31Distance is one issue.
00:33First, I've travelled. I'll say Perth.
00:36Ooh, probably 120km.
00:40Ooh, I've gone to South Australia.
00:44And what works in the city might not work in the country.
00:48Yeah, I think people are really busy. Obviously, Tinder only goes so far.
00:52You know, Howdy's a great app. It's a fantastic one for rural-based people.
00:57And then I usually set that for as far as WA goes.
01:02Speed dating at WA's largest ag show, a potential solution.
01:07Even city singles joining in.
01:10You have to be open to that when you're farming because the reality is that a suitable match is probably not around the corner because you would have already found them.
01:17Dozens of farmers from right across the state flocked to this speed dating event in Perth City hoping to find love.
01:25While some left on their lonesome, others reaped a bountiful harvest.
01:29I think more events like this are great, yeah.
01:32And it's just a matter of becoming, you know, getting more advertising out there, getting a bit more exposure.
01:38And then I think a lot of people would be pretty keen, yeah.
01:41There's already been one day in the cattle lane.
01:43I know, and I know for a fact there's going to be a second tomorrow night.
