00:00Good afternoon everyone and thank you for joining us for this pre-match press
00:03conference with Elise Perry. A reminder please to ensure that everyone's mobile
00:08phones are either on mute or vibrate and please ensure you've got a microphone in
00:12your hand before you ask a question. Who'd like to go first?
00:21Pez you must be looking forward to hopefully playing tomorrow after a bit
00:25of a break between games? Yeah I suppose with the washout the other day it feels
00:28like a long time between matches now so yeah everyone's really looking forward
00:32to the opportunity to get back out there. And what's the chat being amongst the
00:35group about how you're going to approach playing Pakistan and in these conditions?
00:39Yeah we obviously got to have a bit of a look at the conditions the other night
00:44with India and the India and Pakistan match so yeah it probably hasn't changed
00:50too much to how we were thinking the other day when we were hoping to play but
00:55yeah we've had a chance to prepare pretty well. Yeah obviously two training sessions
00:59to kind of prep for what we're going to face tomorrow night so that's been a
01:03really good opportunity for us and yeah as I said it would just be nice to get out there.
01:07Good luck tomorrow. Checking some numbers one of five players to be at five
01:15Cricket World Cups now, Women's Cricket World Cups and I think there were six of you to play in every single T20 World Cup
01:20last year as well. You've won them all. What's left on the Elise Perry bucket list?
01:25Oh look I think it's just the incredible opportunity to have the experiences that we've had as a group
01:32particularly in the women's game like over the course of that time the way that it's grown
01:36you know and the progress that it's brought with it in terms of how big the game is now
01:43you know the quality of cricket the depth of cricket the fans that are now you know really
01:48attached to the game just feels like every time that you get the opportunity to play it's bigger
01:52and better so yeah I don't think I have a bucket list per se I think as a group we just want to
01:59continue to find new potential and play the best cricket we can that hopefully is really exciting
02:04and entertaining but also is really challenging for us to to achieve. And then kind of off the back of
02:10that what have you kind of done what's sort of been the secret of you just staying ahead of the
02:15the chasing field you know Australia has kind of been sort of the the gold standard for a very long
02:19time now what do you and what do the group do to kind of have that sustained success? Well I think
02:25firstly we're incredibly lucky we've you know got wonderful support back home in terms of I guess the
02:31programs that we've got um you know we've got full-time domestic structure that breeds great
02:36depth in Australian cricket um I think you know we're a cricket nation too that that love playing the
02:41game um so we've always you know throughout the history had wonderful players um and I think as a
02:47group like we love the challenge of continuing to find new ways to get better um you know there's
02:52so much competition in the global landscape now I think all the advent of the franchise leagues
02:57around the world has just grown the depth of women's cricket um so it's a huge challenge for
03:02us there's so many good teams um but I also think ultimately that's why you want to play and um the
03:07challenges that are available are really exciting. Hi Elise all the best for tomorrow um going on the
03:14back of what he said there was a 2012 World Cup win that you all experienced here in Colombo at this
03:19venue do you have memories of that at all especially when you had so much time to think about anything
03:23but cricket the other day did this cross your mind at all um yeah I think whenever you come back to
03:28somewhere that you've I suppose been before there's the certain recollections um you're often like
03:34being in the physical space that you're in all those years ago just jog memories um Elisa Healy and I
03:40were kind of like oh yeah this is the ground or this is the this is the thing that that happened then
03:44um so it's always nice to to do that um and then it's also kind of like amazing to think how far
03:51things have come since then uh what is it 13 years ago so um yeah it's pretty it's pretty cool it's
03:57always nice to come back to places that you're familiar with and have good memories out how
04:01different is the Elise then and the Elise now perhaps sorry how different is the person that
04:06you are from back then to now um look I'd like to think vastly different um I suppose I was only like
04:1321 or 22 then um but at the same time I guess like you know things remain the same as well um
04:19in terms of hopefully like uh you know um I don't know like the the level of who I am is the same
04:29it's just that I've experienced and and learnt a lot since then um been through a lot and um yeah
04:36you always want to grow as a person so um yeah I suppose what I'm trying to say is the essence of
04:40me is the same as it is for everyone but you know it's just lots more experiences on top of
04:44um on top of that time a long time ago right coming to the game itself ahead of the world cup
04:50we were talking about 350 scores or even something touching 400 because India and Australia were
04:54involved in a game like that right before the world cup but we have seen the surfaces are a little more
04:59challenging particularly this one this one's tended to be a bit slower a lot of people have spoken
05:04about their approach to the power play right the other day Laura was saying you know we want to go out
05:08and be a little explosive but maybe that's not something we can do in every match okay what does
05:13that conversation look like for the top three in the Australian lineup because we see Alisa doing the
05:16same thing it's bang bang right from the beginning but what is that conversation looking like maybe
05:21I don't think we have a conversation with the top three I think we have a conversation with our batting
05:25group which um we're quite fortunate to have some some you know depth in um so for us and it's something
05:32that we've discussed a lot over the last 12 months is how we use that depth and it's you know it's
05:39never going to be everyone's day on the same day um you know quite possibly it might just be one
05:43person's day um but you know I think we all go out with the same approach and that's to be really
05:49positive um but also really adaptable and smart to whatever the game's presenting whether that's
05:55conditions or the opposition so um yeah I think there's a blueprint there that that applies to
06:01anywhere that you play um and then you've just got to be adaptable on the day okay and just last
06:06thing from me and I know you've been asked about this before but you guys go up against Fatima Sana
06:10again and we know just how much she's loved you I think growing up she sort of modeled her entire
06:15career on you and she came up to you in one of these games earlier how have you sort of gauged her
06:19growth over the last couple of years or as a captain as a team bowling all-rounder particularly how do you
06:24look at how far she's come oh yeah well she's an amazing player um a real talisman I think for the
06:30the pakistan team um I really enjoy seeing how much um passion and energy she plays with and she
06:37is very clearly a great teammate as well like you can see how much she supports and encourages and
06:42celebrates all of her teammates so um yeah she's she's incredibly talented too like all around her game
06:49is is super strong like um yeah she's she's awesome to have in the game so it's it's always nice when we get
06:56a chance to play against her I just want to ask you uh you've already spoken about how the women's
07:03game has improved over the years Australia remained at the top and you yourself have also been at the
07:08top of the game is there something you've worked on in recent years specifically uh given your role
07:13evolution perhaps in the Australian team um well I don't really think there's anything specific but
07:19I just think like you've got to always be open and accepting to the fact that you know you can do
07:26things better or there's a different way to look at things or you know there's an opportunity to change
07:32and I suppose you know when you're in a really supportive environment um where people are all
07:37all you know got the similar outlook to that um it's really easy to do that um you know kind of in
07:44a way that you know might stretch and extend you but at the same time it's not scary because you know
07:48you're supported so I think for all of us like we don't want to stand still and I don't think
07:53you can in elite sport it doesn't matter what the sport is there's always progress and change and
07:57innovation so you know it's nice to to keep finding ways to do that because um yeah otherwise I guess
08:03the only other option is going backwards thanks Elise and thanks everyone
