00:06and turned Giselle Pellico into a global icon, Pellico on Monday testified at the courthouse

00:13for the appeal of a man convicted in her case.

00:25He argues that he was deceived by Giselle Pellico's ex-husband, who drugged his wife

00:31and offered her to strangers online before filming the assaults.

00:37The 44-year-old construction worker went on trial Monday in Nims, Southern France on charges

00:43of aggravated rape by administering substances that impair judgment or self-control, an

00:49offence carrying up to 20 years in prison.

00:53He remains free pending a verdict, but prosecutors had sought 12 years at his first trial.
