00:00:52oh sorry nurse those wheels have a mind of their own
00:01:03and what time do you call this i'm not late i'm joking of course you're not late you're never late
00:01:11listen can i get a quick word about the lead beauty story for the september issue
00:01:15i have a suggestion sure okay what's this brilliant idea of yours
00:01:20give me three words to describe this what am i supposed to be describing exactly the fragrance
00:01:27what feelings does it evoke for you three words off the top of your head
00:01:31light floral and romantic what's your angle believe it or not this fragrance was a bestseller
00:01:3715 years ago wow imagine a double page spread entitled heritage fragrance do these classic
00:01:43scents stand the test of time tell me more i blind test 15 perfumes from 15 years ago
00:01:49to coincide with our 15 year anniversary great idea this way we're giving she readers exactly what
00:01:55they want a fragrant suggestion that we road tested ourselves yes because our readers don't just want
00:02:00smell good they want to feel good too
00:02:03whoa
00:02:06can you get me a coffee please no problem uh anything else uh no it should be good thank you mia
00:02:17i didn't think he was gonna be in the office till next week yeah i must have come back early from
00:02:29this trip you seem thrown how are you two by the way oh fine are you sure i mean we broke up like six
00:02:38months ago can you stop typing for a sec listen six months isn't a long time when your ex is also
00:02:46your boss and you have to spend all your time in the same office i mean i barely think about them
00:02:51what's strange though is that brandon's really super cagey about the cover for the september issue
00:03:08right he's usually rampaging around the office making a huge deal about it
00:03:13you want to see me please have a seat
00:03:29so listen um i need you to spearhead the september cover sheet
00:03:39but you always do the september cover i know i usually take full responsibility for it but
00:03:44something's come up and you're the only one in the company that i trust to hand it over to
00:03:51this is incredible brandon um thank you i've always been a huge fan of your work darcy and i
00:03:58don't think we should let our personal history get in the way of our professional future so why don't
00:04:02we start a new chapter with you doing this cover sounds good to me um
00:04:08i'm presuming that you made a start already nope it's all yours you have full control
00:04:14you're giving me full control using all my own ideas i know you've been wanting to get your
00:04:20hands on the cover for quite some time so now's your chance this is such a huge opportunity thank
00:04:24you no your enthusiasm is exactly what we need to make this our most memorable cover yet
00:04:30okay i don't want to rain on my own parade but why now well as you know our sales figures are
00:04:38falling fast this issue could be make or break for she okay well we know our usp is that our readers
00:04:47love following fashion and beauty trends but it takes more than a brand name to convince them right
00:04:51so what if we prove to them right there i completely trust your judgment on this
00:04:57you do darcy you got this i won't let you down great
00:05:15hey
00:05:28oh all right uh sorry i you know it's fine you take it i insist you can have it i actually have
00:05:36another coffee up in my office so that's fine i just want to see if the cover is terrible up close
00:05:40as it was at a distance on closer inspection i conclude this may be one of the most uninspiring
00:05:45covers i have ever seen you know i don't remember asking what you thought of it but what i do know
00:05:55is that someone actually put a lot of effort into making that cover so perhaps you should keep your
00:06:00highly offensive opinions to yourself in the future there you go goodbye
00:06:16what did i say
00:06:16the worst cover he's ever seen please
00:06:27bad news i'm afraid i tried simon leary's office and he's refusing to let his photographers work with
00:06:33us apparently she is not cutting edge enough for his clients plan b it is then what's plan b
00:06:40i have another way to reach out to him that's all this is a really big deal for you isn't it
00:06:46september cover is literally the fashion moment of the season if we get this right we can get she's
00:06:52reputation back on track now let's run through the to-do list for the shoot
00:07:10of the show
00:07:13simon hey fancy seeing you here jesse harrison didn't have you down for a runner actually it's
00:07:19great that i ran into you i'd love to tell you about my plans for the new she cover your assistant
00:07:23already spoke to me and while i respect your opinion i just wanted to make it clear how we're
00:07:26looking to change things up i mean what makes she unique is that we're not doing high fashion for
00:07:31the sake of it we want women to be the best versions of themselves that they can be my photographers
00:07:37are booked up months in advance there's no way i can work with your time frame even if i did agree
00:07:41to it okay i know just i know the covers don't reflect the forward thinking articles and the
00:07:47fashion features inside the magazine which is why i want to create an image that pulls women in
00:07:54that intrigues them that makes the magazine look as good on the outside as it does on the inside
00:08:01on the inside sorry you gonna be okay yeah i'm good look i appreciate what you're trying to do
00:08:07really i hear you my photographers are all booked up unless unless there is someone go on well he's back
00:08:15in town after a career break i expect him to be all booked up once word gets out we're just trying to
00:08:20build a schedule right now and you think he might want to work with me on this don't get your hopes up
00:08:25he's kind of a big name i expect he's holding out for high profile editorial work like he was doing
00:08:29before but right now his calendar is clear right you don't take no for an answer do you no fine i'll get
00:08:39you a meeting but no promises okay now can i get back to my run yes great thank you
00:08:50hey nate it's me look a job opportunity has just come my way from a beauty editor friend of mine
00:09:07the magazine she works for isn't doing so great but i've always respected her work
00:09:11i think this might be a good opportunity for you to put your stamp on something
00:09:14you know remind the industry what you're capable of let's get you back out there call me
00:09:25hi so sorry
00:09:35i'm so sorry i gotta go
00:09:39uh thank you so much for coming everyone really means the world to me that you're all here to
00:09:43celebrate uh mia thank you so much for organizing this really really is special drink up lots of
00:09:48champagne
00:09:54hey what's going on brace yourself brandon got engaged what
00:10:00oh yeah yeah yeah i'm sure you got her in my car already uh just
00:10:08huh uh darcy
00:10:13hi hello
00:10:16um sorry about that i didn't mean to spring it on you it's all good um congratulations thanks thanks
00:10:22are you are you okay with this of course i should have told you before but i couldn't find the right
00:10:29time i thought you might think it was a little too soon oh no i couldn't gonna be happier for you
00:10:35are you sure positive really really yeah i'm actually seeing someone new myself
00:10:40you are you are mm-hmm uh who
00:10:49him that that guy right there in your office that's the one
00:10:57right well anyways he's here to take me out for lunch so i better not keep him waiting
00:11:03um congratulations again see you soon hi you uh hey taylor uh pleased to meet you uh again come here
00:11:21cheers
00:11:24uh uh nate taylor you were once named promising new photographer by the new york times weren't you yes
00:11:33once once though that doesn't excuse the fact that i am far too opinionated about other people's
00:11:38work and my own work giving myself a hard time too i see sorry if i was rude at the newsstand if
00:11:47i had known you worked for she magazine i mean obviously apology accepted um do you want to go for
00:11:52coffee i need a coffee you probably need a coffee too let's go for some coffee and we can do our meeting
00:12:00there how's that
00:12:13i must warn you she magazine isn't my typical clientele oh remind me what kind of work do you
00:12:19usually do high-end editorial big budget advertising campaigns very impressive
00:12:25so what are you looking for in your cover well i want to create an exciting image that really pops on
00:12:35the shelf can you be more specific something more inventive than the covers that we've been putting out
00:12:42there recently and i want to shoot on location i think that's going to be more reflective of who our
00:12:47readers are and what they want to see and presumably you'll be looking to boost sales same time
00:12:52well our sales figures are just a temporary reflection of okay fine fine the magazine sales
00:13:00are not exactly setting the industry alight so why has it taken you so long to try something different
00:13:06brandon clark who's the ceo of she magazine he um he usually shoots the covers and this is the first
00:13:12time he's letting anyone else take charge so this is the first cover you've ever headed up well i've
00:13:23shot around a hundred beauty stories so i'm guessing that counts or since i'm more experienced cover
00:13:30wise it would make sense for me to take the lead on this one oh absolutely not no we'll be working as a
00:13:36team so what do you say okay i'll do it meet me here for a 9 00 a.m start i have some location ideas
00:13:51i want to show you is this the new look you're going for all right you just have something on here oh
00:14:06i've come up with the perfect concept for the cover go on the magazine is all about confident
00:14:20trend conscious everyday women right so we use actual readers the very readers who have made
00:14:27she magazine a success over the last decade and a half and we put them on the cover as a celebration
00:14:32of womanhood what do you think no you can't be serious why wouldn't i be serious no no way i work
00:14:45with professional models i don't have time to handhold people who don't know what they're doing you're
00:14:50missing the point of the magazine but you do know that our slogan is real fashion and beauty for every
00:14:55woman right uh no i didn't know that one black coffee please and one a vanilla mocha with oat milk
00:15:09it's very interesting combination more interesting than boring black coffee
00:15:13what can i say i'm a purist more like boring
00:15:29using real readers is non-negotiable i'm afraid i spoke to our biggest advertiser and he's actually
00:15:34really excited to see what we come up with you take creative input from advertisers
00:15:39well i spoke to trendierden who's the senior executive yesterday and he actually promised
00:15:46us a huge ad next month as long as we blow him away with the september cover so you know i think
00:15:51you know that our magazine actually really needs that revenue right now and where do you suggest
00:15:56the shoot using women who've never modeled before in their lives takes place right here in central park
00:16:03we'll have the readers in a robo out in the lake okay imagine textured knits lots of movement even
00:16:11better if we can fake september and have them surrounded by lee i i can't listen to any more of
00:16:15this you you told me you wanted to shoot a cover that would take she magazine in a new direction
00:16:21and the best you can come up with is a cliched location that would look like every other shoot
00:16:26the magazine has ever done i mean please tell me you have other ideas
00:16:32yeah of course i do actually come on um you know i thought it would be fun if we can shoot an
00:16:40assumptuous hotel lobby i'm picturing like a cozy fireplace tartan rug something that really says
00:16:47new season what do you think no don't like it okay what about going quintessential new york and
00:16:54shooting in time square no listen just getting out of the studio and having real readers i mean
00:17:03that's gonna revolutionize our magazine and i think there's there is nothing revolutionary about any of
00:17:08the ideas you come up with so far not one thing okay so then what do you suggest mr i'm so cutting edge
00:17:16the only way that i am prepared to continue working on this clearly very commercial job if
00:17:22take the shoot in a much more editorial direction meaning dynamic story idea strong hair makeup
00:17:31and i absolutely refuse to shoot in a rowboat so what exactly do you have in mind
00:17:48okay by shooting here in this urban location we will make she magazine more relevant than it has
00:17:58ever been right by shooting our professional and aspirational women against a wall with graffiti
00:18:06sprawled all over it yeah why not no absolutely not i want vivid and inspiring not dirty and depressing
00:18:13no but the colors the contrast the emotion explosion it's completely wrong for our readership
00:18:22i thought you brought me on to bring a fresh perspective to the magazine you know in order to
00:18:27shake things up as you said you're gonna have to try something new i do know that yes but i also know
00:18:33that this isn't the right way to celebrate 15 years of she look we just need to come up with a concept
00:18:40that we both agree on so let's go find it okay it's not not this an empty field with a lone circus tent
00:18:52um no
00:18:59he is insufferable cute though yeah maybe but that does not make up for the fact that he thinks he has
00:19:05free reign to trample all over my ideas just because he was a big shot in the industry i mean seriously
00:19:10you should see some of the ideas that he's come up with it's ridiculous yeah but he's creative and edgy
00:19:15right all simon's clients are that's why you've been so desperate to work with them over the years
00:19:21yeah that's true but i can't do anything too radical because then if brandon doesn't like the cover
00:19:25i'm never gonna hear the end of it nate's just trying to push you out of your comfort zone that's
00:19:30all you two just need to find your strut here
00:19:32what do you think about this oh no i need three words to describe it please spicy and powerful
00:19:46not me the perfume come on one more um it's headache inducing oh finally oh it's here
00:20:02so yesterday didn't go so smoothly you can say that again just so you know there's a lot riding
00:20:10on us getting this right which is why i may come across as being a little particular i get that but
00:20:18i'll admit that my brief could have been more clear you know i know the readers should put the back of
00:20:22my hand but but you don't so well tell me i want to learn more about the readers what's what's important
00:20:27to them that's her that's how she might see later she's smart she's bold she's opinionated she wants
00:20:37honesty and authenticity but at the same time she wants beautiful aspirational photos that are
00:20:43exciting to look at you know she images that she can put up on her vision board or add to her fridge
00:20:50i think i might have an idea leave it with me
00:20:57hey mom what are you doing i'm still at the shop and believe it or not we've sold out of roses
00:21:07i had to pop to the stall to pick some up you should not be out this late mom nate
00:21:13it's not that late you're not pushing yourself too hard are you all this rushing around if you need
00:21:19a hand you say the word is everything all right in new york yeah it's fine it's you that i'm worried
00:21:24about how are you finding it really honestly it feels like i'm starting all over again i mean simon
00:21:35says i need new photos from a portfolio and then work will start coming in but if things don't improve
00:21:42i'm just gonna head right back home i could always pick up my wedding photography business again that
00:21:47wasn't so bad don't make any rash decisions nate what about that magazine job you told me about
00:21:56don't ask it it feels like nobody in the industry take me seriously anymore i mean this beauty editor
00:22:02clearly cannot take direction she's using not even professional models who are you putting on the cover
00:22:09readers this whole thing is completely ridiculous i think that sounds like a great idea you do in fact
00:22:18last night i was looking through the album of photos you took at my 60th birthday
00:22:25you somehow managed to capture the essence of every single person in the room and if anyone can make
00:22:34everyday women look and feel wonderful it's you i don't know
00:22:48this promotion is amazing i'm so happy for you yeah it is you don't seem too enthused what's up
00:22:57i don't know something seems fishy i mean you know brandon he's such a control freak who cares this was
00:23:04your dream and you got it yeah i mean it would do get along great professionally and you're gonna knock
00:23:13it out of the park out of the park
00:23:16what now i don't know i'm still unsure about nate he's i'm just i'm worried that he's gonna take it too
00:23:31far you know and then what am i gonna do well do you even know what too far is no
00:23:37stand on the edge of a cliff and look down that's how you'll know have you ever done that no but i read
00:23:48read about it online
00:24:18okay ready to go the very two people i wanted to see give me three words to describe this
00:24:42fragrance i'm about to waft under your noses how many more have you got to test only eight
00:24:47oh that's exotic it's mysterious yet enticing
00:24:56but the word that comes to mind is passion
00:25:03nate you're a natural at this well you do realize i'm going to be spraying a different
00:25:10perfume on you every time you pass my desk from now on right well darcy
00:25:15multi-layered subtle and good for eating will that do is that the best you can come up with
00:25:22oh i'm sorry i didn't realize we're writing a romance novel here
00:25:25all right let's make this snappy i've got back-to-back meetings today
00:25:29darcy and you must be oh yeah so we're just gonna go i had to i'm late for an appointment i have to but i'll be back soon
00:25:42okay
00:25:43so if we're gonna be spending all this time together i think we should get to know each other a little bit
00:25:52should we
00:25:54yes let's start with you where did you grow up
00:25:57uh upstate
00:25:58in a small town you won't have heard of look is this really what about your parents
00:26:04uh my dad left so it was mainly just me and mom i'm sorry to hear that
00:26:12it's fine uh look as lovely as this is we should probably get back to talking about the cover i have
00:26:17another appointment for lunch right of course do you want to take out your notes so we can compare
00:26:23what notes you know thoughts you've jotted down about the shoot all the ideas that we've come up with
00:26:29wait you don't have any notes why would i write down what's already in my head
00:26:34doesn't it give you clarity to see it on the page
00:26:37not really i clearly put a lot of time into this this looks um time consuming
00:26:47well i've always done this so listen i i want you to keep an open mind post location i'm going to show
00:26:55you it is kind of the opposite of what you asked for but i'm really excited about it and i think
00:27:02between the two of us we can make it work
00:27:04it's not another graffiti wall is it
00:27:08no then i promise i'll try to hear you out before i say no
00:27:13you won't say no
00:27:14okay why have you brought me here okay i know you said you wanted to get out of the studio and
00:27:29onto location yeah in fact that was my number one stipulation
00:27:32well have you thought it's actually pretty intimidating for a woman who's never modeled
00:27:36before to shoot outside you know what it's like photo shoots attract a crowd
00:27:40yeah but think about it the readers would be so much more relaxed here
00:27:44i mean they could get changed in comfort rather than fumbling around the back of a location
00:27:49food and drink whenever they need and i could play their favorite music to you know help them
00:27:55get in the mood okay but this is an empty shell i mean we're just gonna end up using a boring
00:27:59backdrop and it's just gonna look like all the other covers that she magazine turns out i won't
00:28:03though because together we can make this place into whatever we want
00:28:07okay you said you wanted a celebratory feel right yeah okay so
00:28:14uh all right we could do
00:28:20old hollywood glamour uh director's chair and a huge okay maybe this could be like a studio light
00:28:31and you know but it would really come alive with uh with the styling with with the clothes and the hair and
00:28:39and the makeup and uh
00:28:42or
00:28:46okay i just i just threw this together last night as i was mowing things over
00:28:54i don't know you could draw yeah sometimes it helps me visualize the story so i was thinking
00:29:04we could do a mock-up of a jazz bar and then something luxurious and elegant i mean i love the colors
00:29:12and the chandelier hanging above the bar i mean you sketched it all so well
00:29:15so you really think that we could do something like that in here like in this
00:29:20in this space absolutely we could use we could use props to give it a 1930s mood and lighting for
00:29:29atmosphere nobody would know those images were shot inside a studio no but why don't we just shoot it
00:29:34in an actual jazz bar i don't know the lighting in clubs and bars is notoriously difficult to work with
00:29:39and they're cramped and we have four models the space would be great i don't know nate i'm not
00:29:45i'm not really convinced shooting in studio actually allows us to be more creative we have this
00:29:51blank canvas which we can mold to be the perfect backdrop for our story you said you wanted this
00:29:56cover to be different which requires taking a risk right and you do take just the right amount of risk
00:30:03and it pays off
00:30:06you read the american style piece
00:30:10i may have come across it yeah you're just uh checking up on me i'd call it doing my research
00:30:17actually so what do you think did i tell you how much is riding on this shoe you did
00:30:24and you really think this could work 100
00:30:26all right i'm in really yeah let's do it all right this would be great uh yeah i mean i am working
00:30:38with the most exciting photographer that has hit new york in years so let's just talk about that for a
00:30:45second that's embarrassing okay so i'm thinking
00:30:58simple black dress with like a nice open toe black heel i think it's gonna pair perfectly
00:31:03no this outfit is boring i can't imagine any of this looking interesting on the page
00:31:08i think the problem is you're having a hard time imagining how great these clothes can look on our
00:31:12readers uh just give me one second now what do you think looks good doesn't it
00:31:32professional models or not nate needs to see how good these clothes can look on all women
00:31:37but i don't it's the only way
00:31:55darcy yeah um you are darcy harrison okay own it
00:32:03you got this you got this

00:32:54maybe we add something like a like a black accent oh especially with the jazz bar theme
00:33:01yes i agree actually that could work really well you like it
00:33:03mm-hmm
00:33:19please tell me you three aren't actually going to be
00:33:21on the cover of course not no no how many readers are you using um five i thought it was four
00:33:31four or five gosh you know what what's the time oh i actually have another meeting so i'm
00:33:36i'm going to wrap this up nate joanna's going to see you out oh yeah yeah i have to show you
00:33:41something very important before you go oh let me uh now now joanna okay yeah thanks just uh the uh
00:33:50you got something on here yeah oh yeah i'll i'll put it back
00:33:59okay spill what am i supposed to be spilling i don't know what happened back there but as soon
00:34:05as brandon came into the room you got all flustered about that okay i'm gonna tell you
00:34:10but you have to promise me that you won't think i'm completely crazy okay actually i can't make you
00:34:14promise me that because if you told me what i'm about to tell you i would seriously be concerned okay
00:34:19this sounds juicy go on i may have told brandon that nate is my boyfriend what i know how did this
00:34:27even happen tell me everything i just i panicked and i just didn't want brandon to think that i wasn't
00:34:31over him well when are you gonna tell nate i mean i don't really know if i am we've been getting
00:34:37along great and you know i don't want to go back to square one what awkward silences in front of a
00:34:43graffiti wall babe you've been there done that okay you're gonna have to tell him
00:34:51if you want to keep this charade up you're gonna have to tell him think about it
00:35:01what's going on
00:35:04darcy i figured it out i heard out what where i've heard the name named taylor before
00:35:10right he was that photographer who fell off the face of the earth this time last year he was flying
00:35:15high making a real name for himself and then he literally disappeared overnight he took a break
00:35:20from the industry for personal reasons so what i already stormed off set in the middle of a shoot
00:35:24for a high profile magazine who does that they had to pull the whole story okay look whatever happened
00:35:30we're lucky to be working with him before his career takes off again and he even considers taking
00:35:34this job i'm only telling you this because i'm looking out for you okay well then you need to trust
00:35:40me brandon i know what i'm doing
00:35:49still no buttons coming in they will but listen now i got something that could cheer you up in the
00:36:14meantime at the very least it'll be a welcome distraction well what's going on i'm planning
00:36:19on asking april to marry me you are i am you know we've been together for three years and i just
00:36:26realized that there's nobody else that i'd rather spend the rest of my life with you know well
00:36:30congratulations no i'm not surprised you two are a great couple we are aren't we yeah well let me know
00:36:37if you need help with anything well funny you should ask i'm planning on throwing a proposal party at
00:36:43a bistro that april's into just an intimate thing a handful of friends and family fancy being my official
00:36:50event photographer i'd love to thanks man maybe you could uh put an album together you know something that
00:37:01april and i can look back on when we're together in our retirement home it'd be an honor thanks man
00:37:16so how's the shoot coming along it's going very well i wanted to let you know that i plan to reveal
00:37:22the cover at the she magazine midsummer party that's great no pressure along with the she team
00:37:31i've invited editors from rival magazines i want to prove to everyone that we're still a force to be
00:37:36reckoned on okay well i'm excited to show everyone what eight and i come up with me too and um i will be
00:37:46bringing my fiance to the party oh i get to meet the lucky lady do i detect a note of sarcasm
00:37:55maybe one maybe one touche i assume you'll be bringing nate yes of course of course i'm going to
00:38:04bring him he's my boyfriend so so it's kind of like a double date yeah fun
00:38:11mm-hmm i i look forward to getting to know mm-hmm it'll be nice mm-hmm see you down there great
00:38:31you know having nate and brandon in the same room all night is just asking for trouble
00:38:36you could always tell brandon that nate can't make it i don't see why you should feel pressured
00:38:41to bring a date anyway it's a work event isn't it as tempting as that sounds it's nate's cover too
00:38:47so it's only right that he's there we'll just have to keep them apart brandon will be so busy schmoozing
00:38:53i don't see him having time to start grilling nate about your relationship
00:38:57oh i spoke to the pr for every woman lipstick she was acting a bit off sounds like they're
00:39:05being very picky about who they're giving early samples to it's creating a buzz all over town
00:39:10already imagine a shade of red that looks good on everybody it would go exactly with our theme
00:39:16we have to have it which is why i want you to go to the launch with me tomorrow you've got way more
00:39:23sway than i do okay fine i'll come you know you're much more persuasive than you think
00:39:31you got me doing these classes didn't you i told you it was advanced
00:39:36is it over soon i'm just i think i have a cramp
00:39:54good morning hey good morning
00:39:57what's that oh i figured we'd walk come on all the way to the prop house yeah might see something
00:40:07that inspires us along the way you are so from out of town how far is this exactly uh it's not far
00:40:17uh look i'll grab us some coffees for the general fine i haven't had my coffee yet so let me guess black
00:40:25that's right thank you
00:40:33i hope you're not expecting me to drink that it's my favorite you're gonna love it
00:40:39it smells like a witch's brew no trust me it tastes better than it looks no i can't i'm sorry
00:40:46here's your black outfit i just wanted to see your face
00:40:48fine fine if it's that important to you i'm gonna try it here
00:41:03how is it it's really good yeah really yeah i'm actually glad you made me try this
00:41:09okay so we're going to need a counter that will double up as a bar plus glasses lights bar stools
00:41:23i'm just gonna check my emails quickly
00:41:26darcy who could you possibly be emailing with at 8 30 in the morning
00:41:31nothing to see here you work too much maybe okay uh what do you do for fun
00:41:43oh there must be something i like reading magazines yeah that's work what else
00:41:49um yeah i rest my case wait wait wait wait if we could find a way to hang this
00:42:00from the ceiling of the studio this would make an excellent centerpiece for our set don't you think
00:42:06and what about this curtain it'll be perfect as a backdrop oh this is really coming together
00:42:11and then afterwards a dress oh matches your eyes
00:42:22okay i think that went really well yeah now that we're on the same page you're actually pretty easy
00:42:25to work with hey these are so pretty hey let's see anthis mom's favorite
00:42:34oh uh these are actually one of the few flowers that can withstand the summer heat
00:42:37my mom uses these in her wedding bouquets this time of year your mom's a florist yeah she has a
00:42:43shop back home recently just expanded the business has a couple curbside stalls now oh so
00:42:49you must know a lot about flowers then yeah i used to help out at the store every day after school
00:42:54definitely picked up a few things
00:42:57stop i hate having my picture taken
00:43:09well the camera certainly doesn't hate you
00:43:17two spicy specials to go please this place is my favorite i used to get lunch here all the time
00:43:23i live in new york i've never seen somebody get so excited about a pretzel
00:43:29why do you always have me trying weird foods oh because unexpected combinations are the best
00:43:38this sauce is to die for thank you very much all right
00:43:42so why did you leave new york so suddenly you can tell me to mind my own business if you like
00:44:03i'm no no it's okay i have to talk about it at some point i was doing a fashion story for a
00:44:11magazine uh we were on location down in miami and all that mattered was getting the right shot my life
00:44:19my hometown all of that was a distant memory well you were fully invested in the job what's the wrong
00:44:23thought the thing is i'm all my mom has since my dad left did something happen
00:44:30she fell off the ladder at work broke her hip at the exact time i was doing the shoot now her neighbor
00:44:37tried to get in touch with me but i didn't take my message for hours and by the time i finally
00:44:40figured out what was going on she was in the operating room having surgery that's terrible
00:44:45was she okay oh yeah the procedure went well but i didn't know that at the time yeah so i i try to
00:44:52finish up this job but my heart's not on me and then the fashion editor throws a tantrum over
00:44:59one of my shots it was the final straw i just just walked right off well i'm sure anybody would have
00:45:05done the same thing i mean how could you focus on work when you had all that going on i was completely
00:45:10unprofessional i mean part of me doesn't blame the fashion editor for batman all over town
00:45:17well for what it's worth i don't think they had any way to do that too
00:45:20well my mom's fine it's all a mess now how's your pretzel
00:45:29i'm about to go in
00:45:34is that not the best thing you've ever had this is really good huh it's delicious actually oh my god
00:45:49okay so the readers are going to arrive at the studio for 7 a.m for fittings and then they're
00:46:06going to do hair and makeup lunch is booked for 12 30. and i have put together a playlist of upbeat
00:46:11music which will help everybody relax great idea oh and maybe i can spritz everyone with a ton of
00:46:16empowering perfume just as they're about to step on set hi did you need me lunch for four readers
00:46:26plus the team trust you're sticking to budget of course and i followed the guidelines and the
00:46:32policies and procedures manual which i believe you wrote i did i just hope your boyfriend here isn't
00:46:39pushing you in directions you'd normally think twice about what do you mean yeah darcy never lets her
00:46:44personal life get in the way of work brandon you know that i can assure you that it's all under
00:46:49control can we just clarify what you meant do you have a second i want to show you the provisional
00:46:54layout of the heritage fragrance story i want to be absolutely 100 sure that you're happy with it
00:47:00uh fine yeah yeah yeah let's have to be quick after you
00:47:04what was that about um i owe you an explanation do you think that we can take a walk please
00:47:34okay let me get this straight you pretended i was your boyfriend before you knew anything about
00:47:41me i'm so sorry i i know how bad this must sound but if you weren't seeing anybody why didn't you just
00:47:46tell him that part of me felt like a failure after my relationship ended with brandon which i know is
00:47:52irrational because it's not anybody's fault it just i just couldn't stand the fact of people gossiping
00:47:58about me in the office or feeling sorry for me you know should have told me sooner i guess i just
00:48:05don't want to ruin our working relationship i'm sorry so you put the magazine ahead of my feelings
00:48:10no no no it's not like that look i i may not understand why you did what you did but
00:48:18yeah people make mistakes breakups are hard so then do you think you'd consider going along with
00:48:27it for a few more days just until the shoot is over i mean if we tell him now you know it could ruin
00:48:31everything that we work towards uh brandon he's a powerful person in the magazine world i don't need
00:48:39somebody else going around spreading stories about me though on the other hand i am fed up with people
00:48:45thinking they can ruin someone's reputation just because they feel like it so what are you saying
00:48:56yeah i'll do it but only for a few more days thank you hey okay there's just one more teeny tiny
00:49:04now i told brandon that i'd be bringing you to the midsummer party i know i know i know but i'll owe you a
00:49:15favor next several in fact actually there is something you can do for me
00:49:31she's gonna be a hard night to crack don't worry about this
00:49:35victoria it's so nice to see you well thank you so much for coming darcy and lovely to see you
00:49:47again too jocelyn it's joanna oh gosh i'm so sorry how silly of me victoria we would love to feature
00:49:55the every woman lipstick on the september cover we've been hearing so much about it i'm afraid we've
00:50:01already offered exclusivity to another publication that's a shame it would tie in perfectly with the
00:50:08heritage fragrance piece i'm about to submit pierre monet is your client too right yes his classic eau de
00:50:15paris fragrance came out on top in my blind testing experiment how interesting
00:50:21we are looking to relaunch the scent for a younger market i'm thinking of making it my september topic
00:50:35in that case i don't see why we can't let you have an early sample of every woman
00:50:41why don't you let me know where you'd like it sent
00:50:43that was excellent work see you're a much better negotiator than i'll ever be
00:50:50that was fluke she thought my name was jocelyn oh don't take it personally i bet she's gonna tell
00:50:56pierre monet that the heritage fragrance piece is all her idea oh without a doubt
00:51:03i bet it would be different if i was an assistant beauty editor and not just a beauty assistant
00:51:08i've been wanting to talk to you about that never mind the system beauty editor i think it's time
00:51:14that you ran your own department i don't know if i'm quite ready for that are you kidding me you would
00:51:21be a brilliant beauty editor why is it that when it comes to dating you're fearless but when it has
00:51:26anything to do with your career you're scared of taking the same risks hmm and how come you always
00:51:31think outside of the box when it comes to work but when it comes to your personal life you're stuck
00:51:36in a rut so what you're saying is we have the opposite problem is now a good time to point out
00:51:47that you've been spending a lot of time with nate is he still on board with the whole fake boyfriend
00:51:52thing yes he is but he has me doing a lot of favors for him like what like helping him out at simon
00:51:59leary's engagement party apparently nate's assistant is sick and there's no one else in new york that
00:52:03he could ask that sounds fun when is it tomorrow and with the cover shoot only three days away i should
00:52:10really be in the office right now yeah but you do owe him a favor a big one exactly which is why i could
00:52:18hardly say no ooh well i'm calling it you hanging out with nate is good for you i'm telling you i haven't
00:52:27seen you this relaxed or happy in years cheers
00:52:44i just saw nate at reception what yeah he's early
00:52:47what do you need time or should i go get him you can go get him thank you
00:53:02hi hey please take a seat thank you
00:53:24so what exactly do you have me doing at this proposal party oh let me think uh you don't mind lugging
00:53:30around some seriously heavy photographic equipment all afternoon do you i will do my best well thanks
00:53:38again for doing this i know it's not the kind of thing you normally do what blowing off work in the
00:53:43middle of the day no no it is not um can you just give me two minutes i'm just gonna grab my things
00:53:49then we can go yeah of course
00:54:05all right okay i've got everything
00:54:10okay promise me you'll call me if you need anything i won't now go have some fun and i'll see you
00:54:16tomorrow okay i just want to make sure in fact i think you should turn your phone off
00:54:20right now so i can see it i don't think that's a good idea we need this
00:54:28happy very
00:54:37where's darcy going she took the afternoon off to help nate out with an event she took the afternoon
00:54:48off to go to a party with her boyfriend never seen her spend so much time away from the office
00:54:56same just like a different person these days super happy
00:55:04okay
00:55:14if i could just get everybody's attention please now i'm not going to bore you to death with a big long

00:55:25beautiful wonderful loving moment with friends family colleagues we love you
00:55:32almost as much as we love each other thank you for being here
00:55:39so if you guys want to just stand over there that's great now just pretend just the two of you
00:55:46that light there all right okay one more and you know what let's uh let's take one where let's
00:56:04pretend darcy's the bride and i'm simon and now toast us with uh your champagne
00:56:08okay let's uh shake it up left arm right arm a little shim shake just like that okay okay back to

00:57:16so funny hey do you want to see how the shots are turning out sure okay remember simon's cousin
00:57:25and his girlfriend and his girlfriend and how intimidated they were by the camera at first look

00:58:04be a pretty uh can be a handful hey we're just highly sensitive individuals there's nothing wrong with
00:58:08that right oh uh by the way i asked the dj to put a slow song on next i expect the both of you to be out
00:58:15there get rid of this thing you know someone can't relax you're a very good dancer i can do things other
00:58:42than work you know yeah well you're getting to wonder uh thank you again for today i mean everything

01:11:16uh
01:11:18Hi, help. I'm on a date and it's not going well.
01:11:32Oh no, can't you just cut it short?
01:11:34Maybe. I had to pretend like I was making an urgent phone call just so I could take a break.
01:11:39He literally won't stop talking. His entire personality is his food allergies.
01:11:44Is everything okay? You seem a bit flat.
01:11:47Yeah, it's fine. It's fine. Tell me what's going on.
01:11:51I think I actually developed feelings for Nate.
01:11:53That's great.
01:11:54Not really, no. He clearly doesn't feel the same way about me.
01:11:58No offense, Darcy, but you're not exactly the best judge of whether or not somebody likes you.
01:12:03No, no, no. He doesn't, okay? He's just playing this role, the one that I asked him to play.
01:12:08There's only one way to find out how he really feels about you. You're going to have to ask him.
01:12:12Oh no, no, no, no. I couldn't.
01:12:13You could. And it just so happens that you're both going to be at the same party tomorrow night.
01:12:18It's the perfect time to tell him how you really feel.
01:12:21Why is Brandon doing the reveal here anyway? He always says it at the party.
01:12:31You know what is worrying me? I sent Brandon three options for the cover and he still hasn't said anything.
01:12:35Not a word.
01:12:37He's probably just caught up with the wedding.
01:12:39Here we go.
01:12:42Thank you for all taking time out of your busy schedules, everyone.
01:12:46But as you know, it is tradition that we gather to reveal and celebrate the most prestigious cover of the year, the September issue.
01:12:54Taking into account our USP, we kept the cover simple, sleek, and effective in keeping in line with our brand.
01:13:02Now, without further ado, may I present the September cover.
01:13:35It was not the vision we discussed.
01:13:37Did you really think you could go that off-brand without me signing off on it first?
01:13:41Off-brand?
01:13:42I ran every element of the shoot past you.
01:13:44Not once did you question anything except for the budget.
01:13:47Besides, whatever happened to it's all yours, Darcy.
01:13:50You've got full control.
01:13:51Do you remember that?
01:13:52Yeah, well, the buck stops with me.
01:13:55You know, I knew there was something off about this whole thing.
01:13:59It's so like you to do something like this, by the way.
01:14:00You see that all Darcy is trying to do is save this brand that you keep talking about.
01:14:05I don't think someone with your professional history is in a position to comment on my brand.
01:14:09You know what?
01:14:10I just think you're worried that Darcy's ideas and meticulous execution put yours to shame.
01:14:15Do you really need your boyfriend to fight your battles for you?
01:14:18Oh, I'm perfectly capable of sticking up for myself, as you well know.
01:14:21But since relationships are all about sticking your neck up for the other person, I refuse to stand by and watch you sabotage Darcy's brilliant work.
01:14:28Look, I'm sorry.
01:14:31I know you both work very hard, but the bottom line is your cover completely missed the mark.
01:14:38Well, then, if you can't get up to speed with the changes that this magazine needs so that everyone else can keep their jobs,
01:14:44maybe this isn't the right place for me to be working anymore.
01:14:47I know you're probably wondering what you got yourself into.
01:15:01Yeah, you think?
01:15:02Try to rebuild my reputation, I'll make it ten times worse.
01:15:05This is all my fault, and I should have never complicated things because I...
01:15:07By involving me in this ridiculous fake boyfriend scheme?
01:15:10No, you shouldn't.
01:15:11I mean, that's clearly the catalyst behind this whole thing.
01:15:13What was wrong with just hiring me as a photographer?
01:15:15I'm sorry, Nate.
01:15:18I...
01:15:18Maybe we can...
01:15:19Maybe...
01:15:19Maybe we can...
01:15:20What?
01:15:22Oh, I know.
01:15:24Let's go back into Brandon's office, and you can tell him this was all just a little ruse so that you wouldn't appear hurt that he had found somebody else.
01:15:32Nate, I'm...
01:15:33I needed a comeback, Darcy, not a wipe-up.
01:15:35You know what's...
01:15:38You know what's worse?
01:15:40I...
01:15:40I believe in our pictures.
01:15:43So do I.
01:15:43But what I don't need is everything else that comes with them.
01:15:50Okay, well, can we at least try?
01:15:52No, we can't.
01:15:54What am I supposed to put in my portfolio?
01:15:55A magazine cover that never even made it to the shelves?
01:15:58A magazine cover that never even made it to the shelves.
01:15:59I don't know.
01:16:00I don't know.
01:16:01I don't know.
01:16:02I don't know.
01:16:03I don't know.
01:16:04I don't know.
01:16:05I don't know.
01:16:06I don't know.
01:16:07I don't know.
01:16:08I don't know.
01:16:09I don't know.
01:16:10Hey.
01:16:11Are you working late again?
01:16:12Just finishing up here, honey.
01:16:14Everything okay?
01:16:15Uh, not really.
01:16:17I need your advice.
01:16:19Of course.
01:16:20What's going on?
01:16:21I've met someone.
01:16:24Darcy Harrison, beauty editor for the magazine that I'm working for.
01:16:29And I'm worried that I've gone and messed it all up.
01:16:34Is she worth taking a risk for?
01:16:38I think so.
01:16:40Which means...
01:16:42Which means you're going to have to tell her how you feel, Nate.
01:16:47Right now.
01:16:48Before you manage to talk yourself out of it.
01:16:51Here I will.
01:16:52In number 15,
01:17:11Marie.
