00:00Bahigit 20 overseas Filipino workers ang nasa death row sa iba't ibang bansa ay sa Department of Migrant Workers.

00:07At para mapabilis ang pagtulong sa kanila, pinatatagdagan ng Senate Finance Committee ang mga abugado ng DMW.

00:14May unang balita si Mab Gonzalez.

00:18Sa pagdinig ng panukalang 2026 budget ng Department of Migrant Workers o DMW,

00:24tinalakay ang mga OFW na nakonvict sa ibang bansa.

00:28Sabi ng DMW, sa 116 na convicted OFWs abroad, 25 ang kasalukuyang nasa death row.

00:36This has been drastically reduced kasi in Malaysia, nagkaroon sila ng bagong pulisiya o batas.

00:43Naging flexible sila in terms of commuting the sentences of our death row cases.

00:50At nag-apply po yung ating embahada doon.

00:52It used to be in the neighborhood of 50 to 60, but now we're down to 25.

00:56Patuloy raw nagtatrabaho ang DMW kasama ang Department of Foreign Affairs at Office of the President

01:03para mabigyan ng commutation ang mga kababayan natin.

01:06Ang likelihood nitong 25, mabigyan rin ng commutation.

01:13Si Presidente po is also very concerned about the death row cases.

01:17And we have been working quietly to hold the executions at bay.

01:23And tama po kayo, natumbok nyo, makommute yung sentence na yun.

01:28If not, mapawalang sala completely.

01:30Ang gusto ni Senate Finance Committee Chairman Sen. Wyn Gatchalian, dagdagan ang abogado ng DMW.

01:37Legal retainer, meron tayong 23.

01:40Ang in-house lawyer natin, meron tayong 10.

01:43So ang total natin is about 33.

01:46So if you divide that with our number of OFWs, lumalabas parang 1 is to 90,000.

01:54Tama po ba that we only have 33 legal retainer and in-house lawyers handling almost 3 million OFWs?

02:02Sir, yung law firms po would usually have, well not the entire law firm is engaged.

02:08They will have other areas or field of practices of law.

02:11But on average, we have around 3 or 4 lawyers per law firm handling our cases.

02:16Sa 2026, plano rin daw ng DMW magdagdag ng abogado mula sa kanilang action fund.
