00:00I need you to do two things for me while you're doing the interview what would you like I want
00:14you to crow like a rooster and I also want you to do a kookaburra impersonation deadpan and then
00:21continue with the interview yeah because when you see the lights come up you know the lights
00:27on the hill as as slim would say yeah um you know when you see that and it's it's it's incredibly
00:33special yeah I bet it is I bet it is so in saying that with your family you know do your little one
00:41sing my my kids you're throwing me off mate I don't I don't even know how to how to continue
00:46on from that okay sound like it sounds like my farm in the morning to be honest
00:57uh the cannonball run down under was kind of born a bit this kind of show mate hey hey subtle
01:03product placement mate cannonball run down under was uh was born out of necessity I guess the
01:11producer was sort of getting a bit toey and he's saying when are you going to go out and make some
01:14telly again and I thought I better do something or else uh he's probably going to sack me so I thought
01:21I better go and make some tv and and I've been talking to my mates for a while about doing a trip
01:26and I thought I've got an idea
01:30so
01:37oh
01:43oh
01:51Oh, I was so free
02:05I may have been a young
02:09But baby, that's not what I wanted to be
02:13Behind me sits the Weluga Hotel.
02:15Now, on any other day of the week,
02:17it's just a ripple little country Queensland pub.
02:19But today, it becomes a little bit more than that
02:21because it's our kicking off spot
02:23for our first episode of the Cannonball Run Down Under.
02:27Why don't I tell the producer
02:29that I've got a trip to film for TV
02:33and I don't tell my friends?
02:36That way they won't back out.
02:37It's the race we've all been talking about.
02:40The one where a group of friends and myself
02:42are going to head off from here
02:43and end up at the Gympie Music Muster.
02:46OK, so this may be hard to believe,
02:48but I haven't had a holiday for about three years.
02:51Yeah, I was looking forward to having a week off.
02:55That was a GoPro, I think.
02:56So, actually, can I just say, before we do this,
02:59do I need to put the question into the answer?
03:01We've got the four of us together.
03:19We're about to hit the road and have a whole lot of fun.
03:21It's what they thought was happening this trip
03:23until I decide to dig myself out of the hole
03:25and bring a production crew along.
03:27Then, you guys all walk in, these camera guys,
03:31and it's like, what are you guys doing here?
03:34Ah, so you want to talk about the cameras now, do you?
03:36Right, eh?
03:37I thought we might make this a little bit bigger
03:40than we actually discussed at first,
03:42and I didn't think anyone would mind.
03:44So we're making a TV show?
03:46Well, yeah, we're making a TV show.
03:48I thought we might raise some money for charity.
03:51Oh, yeah.
03:52Who's charity?
03:54Hello.
03:55Oh, mate's got a charity.
03:56I do.
03:57Doing it for rural Aussie kids.
03:58What do you reckon?
04:00Really?
04:00Yeah.
04:01My charity?
04:02Your charity.
04:03That's pretty strong.
04:04How cool is that?
04:05That's awesome.
04:06It's becoming interesting now.
04:07Oh, so all of a sudden we do want the cameras.
04:09Yeah, oh, that's great.
04:11But as soon as he brings in my charity,
04:13doing it for rural Aussie kids,
04:14well, I think all of us sort of went,
04:15righto, it's odd for young and old now.
04:18You know, when Jason and I have been on tour,
04:20I've been with him and visited some of these small outback schools
04:24that he goes to,
04:25to some kids that are doing it really tough,
04:27some families out there that are really struggling.
04:30It's just such joy and happiness
04:33to see them getting a little Christmas present.
04:36So what we're going to do is we're going to race
04:39to the Gympie Music Muster from Waluga.
04:42Looks like it's too far away, though.
04:44It's not going to be much of a race.
04:46Here's cheers, you lot.
04:47Cheers.
04:49Here's to the best way to ruin a holiday ever.
04:51Once I decided that we're turning this little trip to the Muster
04:56into a TV show,
04:58I thought to myself,
04:59Self, you're going to need to have some stuff that's pretty cool.
05:03And I've never been a producer,
05:07but I had to put my producer's hat on.
05:10So I Googled what to do around here,
05:13and now I'm a producer.
05:15Like, I'm not sure if it's a race or a solo challenge.
05:20There's been talk of a scoring system.
05:25I didn't have a plan, all right?
05:27Well, there you go, eh?
05:40I think they took that quite well, don't you?
05:43Or you.
05:44They've got a few more surprises to come.
05:46Don't worry about that.
05:48Watch this.
05:48Coming up, it's amazing how easily everyone gets lost in here.
06:09All right, guys.
06:10Well, I reckon you're in the fastest car,
06:12so we'll probably be the first to the Muster, I'd say.
06:16I feel like I've been hobbled having to tow a caravan
06:31when these other two get to drive around in their cars.
06:33I came up with the idea for the challenges
06:36because we were already meeting at Weluga,
06:40and we were already going to the Muster,
06:42and that's going to take about half an hour.
06:44Yeah, and also talk of belt buckles.
06:47I don't know.
06:48I decided I'd order three belt buckles,
06:52one for each of us.
06:54Somehow I've clicked the wrong button.
06:56I got 40.
06:57I don't even know how you win
06:59because do I have to do the challenges first
07:02or quicker than the other guys,
07:03or do I have to collect how many belt buckles
07:05do I need to collect to win?
07:07I could turn them into a trophy-style thing,
07:10and then I could pretend that it wasn't a mistake,
07:12and I've got plenty of them.
07:14There'd be plenty left over for everyone else
07:16if they want merchandise,
07:17and then I'm thinking,
07:18not only do you look like a genius,
07:20you look like a genius businessman
07:22because you are selling Cannonball Rundown under merch.
07:27Oh, what?
07:29Sunshine Coast?
07:30That's ages from here.
07:32He wants us to go to a maze world.
07:38What is that?
07:39It's a maze.
07:40A maze?
07:41But I'm telling a van.
07:50Could I tell you what?
07:51All this cannonballing,
07:52it can be a little bit stressful, can't it?
07:55So, first thing we need to do is get into that maze,
07:58out of the maze, quick as you can.
08:00Next, pretty important,
08:01we're going to the op shop.
08:03And when we get to the op shop,
08:04we need to find something that's fabulous.
08:06I'm not the sort of bloke
08:07that would generally use the word fabulous
08:10anywhere in a sentence.
08:13Ask me how to spell fabulous.
08:18Don't know.
08:19This is your next hint.
08:20I need to meet you out the front of the cotton tree
08:22in something fabulous for dinner.
08:25And when I say fabulous,
08:27I mean fabulous.
08:30But this morning on telly,
08:32I was watching the news,
08:33and they had a thing about the logies.
08:35And they said that everyone looked fabulous.
08:39Hey, Jess, that way.
08:41That's the exit.
08:42You want to go that way.
08:43Oh, thank you.
08:44She's so gullible.
08:45Oh, actually,
08:49can you find the missing creatures
08:51and their objects in the enchanted garden?
08:54Yes, I can.
08:55Scan.
09:01Continue, continue, continue.
09:04The idea is to be calm, cool, and collected.
09:08Trying to live on my way in
09:09so I can remember my way out.
09:11But these things are designed
09:13to just guide you in the right direction.
09:17But you've got to keep your hand
09:18on the hedge the whole way.
09:20More, a bit more.
09:23Oh.
09:25Okay, the windmill.
09:27I think I'm heading to the centre now.
09:30You know that theory I had
09:34about putting your left hand on the hedge?
09:37Well, and I'm just going round and round in circles.
09:41Dead end.
09:42Maybe I'd swap hands.
09:44Oh, my God.
09:46Oh, no!
09:48Another dead end.
09:49Can I call him a chopper or something?
09:53So Mac is trying to jazz up the show
09:54to make it really great for television, right?
09:56So he's coming up with all these crazy ideas.
09:58Stand up on Jason's back
10:01and see if you can see over the hedge.
10:02I reckon it's over that way.
10:04Righto.
10:04I'm going to get down here.
10:05Jump on me back and have a look.
10:07Really?
10:07Yep.
10:07Oh, jeez, okay.
10:08I think that's a good idea, though.
10:10Go for it.
10:11Okay.
10:12Are you all right?
10:13Yeah.
10:13I have to end one to the bush.
10:15Yeah.
10:15He had this rubber snake, right, and what he said to me was,
10:26put it down the front of your shirt
10:27and just as you're leaning to go over the hedge,
10:30drop the snake down in front of Jason.
10:32This is pretty good,
10:33because I know Jason is absolutely paranoid of snakes, right?
10:37Did you say anything?
10:38No, no way in this world.
10:52Oh, really?
10:56Made it!
10:57Woo!
10:58Right, up shop.
10:59You know what?
11:00I thought we'd never get out of there.
11:02Oh, we did, but only just.
11:04Okay, to the up shop.
11:05To the up shop.
11:06A race shop.
11:06Right, up shop.
11:17Off to the up shop, we go.
11:21See you later.
11:25Winners are grinners, eh?
11:31Stay tuned to see how fabulous these outfits get.
11:34And now is to get to this up shop.
11:47Find a fabulous outfit,
11:49which that'll be no worries,
11:50but just getting there and having to find a park
11:52is going to be a bit of a challenge.
11:54Oh, and we've done a traffic jam too.
11:57take me home country wolves come on take me to the shop country roads
12:05geez it's a long red light another red light it's gonna take me a little bit longer to do everything
12:13and jess and jace are probably already there getting their fabulous outfits oh she's already
12:21here i want something that's gonna you know be smashing i can't find a park i know where the
12:42shop is but i'm like 10 blocks from there at the moment look right it's a kimono and hey jason
12:51i could match it with a little japanese number oh they're in there oh geez
12:59so i tried to pick the most ballroom type dresses i could find with all the bling
13:09hey oh you can step it up a bit you want to have a go do you want to have a go don't forget it's
13:19a charity oh and here's some road works too maybe these guys would be able to tell me i can park a
13:25ridge hey mate anywhere i can park a car and caravan around here not really obviously you want to go
13:33down oh come on you could have done better than that i was gonna say the same thing
13:39look at this beautiful jacket where do you think we're going for dinner then i found a winner i think
13:45this is the one oh now that is fabulous oh it feels great hey it's for my charity so i'll do whatever i
13:52have to do yeah okay you actually do your look for oh thanks darling it's only a couple of blocks away
13:57can't take that long to get there come on gotta hurry hey you can you can radio the guy up there
14:06and tell him i found a park with my caravan he was very helpful thank you okay
14:15holly molly you look great jess you're obviously doing it for rural aussie
14:18kids definitely don't bring your buddy up
14:31what a bloody beautiful part of the world it is here don't swear jace i didn't you can say bloody
14:37on tv mate who's winning yeah who is winning your charity's winning mate yeah how good's that what do
14:44you want to know how to use three yeah it's all up here mate is it yeah how does the system work
14:49it's a bit of algebra and it's a bit of an algorithm it's an algorithmic algebra jess is winning
14:56gordon ramsey's kind of like my hero mostly because of the way he gets to talk to people on tv and i've
15:03always had to be nice to people you know like oh hello barry it's really nice to come to your caravan park
15:09and i can't go barry this is the crappest place i ever saw and i don't know why you'd ever bring
15:16anyone here you know and so i look at i look up to gordon
15:23whoa i just want you to know one thing i'm not a pheasant plucker i'm the pheasant plucker son and
15:28i'll keep on plucking feathers to me pleasant plucking's done
15:33and this isn't the whole challenge either because the real challenge sits behind me the barbecue there's
15:37some ingredients over there and i'll always say there is nothing more australian than a hamburger
15:43on the beach well i think it's something that sort of came down through the generations my
15:47my grandfather he loved hamburgers and his his dad before him he was a big fan of hamburgers and i'm
15:54pretty sure our old mate macker just after some of the challenges that he's been given us i don't
15:59know whether he's even seen cannonball run whoa i can't think we've got a bit of gas in there yeah
16:06it can make no oh macker really loves lettuce too good i'm like i'll grab one of it it's a glass
16:12mountain out there yeah righto it should be just about done soon i reckon
16:21up next i'll be the judge of whether these burgers are disgustingly good or just plain disgusting
16:29i'm freaking out so here we are i want to prefix this by saying i did warn you that i'm going to be
16:44hard on you in this process so i want to say we need to remember we are all friends jason bring your
16:52burger forward do you want me to put on the table for you too macker please get that in here mate what
17:01do you call that that's parsley parsley parsley is the devil's garnish is it and you've chosen to put
17:08it on top of my burger i have because it makes it look nice get it in here that's harsh we'll put that
17:15over there for the cattle well when i look at that i do have to ask the question did you cook that in
17:23the barbecue or did you cook that in the crematorium no no definitely a barbecue did you use my seasoning
17:29rubs in that i did i do believe that that has probably brought that burger back from the dead
17:36the flavor was fantastic and if you want to get your hands on some macker seasoning rubs go to
17:41macca seasoning rubs.com.au so i go back to me place now dismissed so are you
17:53i can speak his language tanya what have you prepared i know that you're not interested in food
18:01i like what you've done with the burger i really do as i said i do like the way you've garnished
18:08that i'm going to take that a little bit closer and i'm just going to have a just a quick look at
18:14what you've got here
18:19and i think we're getting somewhere let's give this a try i wouldn't eat it you don't eat food from the
18:23telly just pretend to eat it you can join your friends and i'll continue the the judgment before
18:30i come to my decision there's plenty more garnish where that came from when you make your final decision
18:35thanks for that peace and love you rock tera masuda youtube namaste jess what's your offering
18:51the inspiration for this jess well i've dined out with you a few times macka and i know that
18:56you don't really like garnish so i thought i'd please you with what you like the most meat on a
19:01plate with a little bit of bread i'm trying to work out where you would start on a hamburger like
19:06that you could just motorboat it i've never motorboated a burger before oh yeah the motorboat joke um
19:20look i'm kind of i'm kind of a bit worried about that one to be honest
19:23do you think it's even going to make the cut okay i've made a decision so
19:38so i still can't figure out macka's scoring system at this stage you know we've done the maze challenge
19:43we've you know done the op shop thing we've cooked in hamburgers um uh you know i think i ended up getting
19:49one belt buckle one of the cannonball run belt buckles your garnish was exceptional but i would
19:56say a little more would have been great but with inflation and the cost of living i mean what do you
20:03buy with 50 bucks anymore um jason got one i think he should have got more because you know he went to
20:08a great deal of effort and really put himself on the line there well i knew that i'd get something
20:13because he wants to market his bloody seasoning rubs of course he does the seasoning was exceptional
20:18but um jess ended up getting a pair of hamburger i'm a big fan of big hamburgers when i saw those
20:24big hamburgers coming at me i thought no one else can win that that you got a nice pair of those
20:32oh i won anyway right so yeah
20:40well folks that's all we've got time for in our first ever episode of cannonball run down under
20:45if you'd like a piece of tv history follow the qr code on the screen to place your bid on our
20:50customized belt buckles with all proceeds going to doing it for rural aussie kids next time the
20:55cannonball run takes us on the pursuit of adrenaline at aussie world on horseback through the sunny coast
21:01hinterlands and jamming off at karaoke we'll catch you next time on cannonball run down under the home of
