00:00Sarah Wilkinson and I'm from the UK and I'm semi-retired but I'm working free for Palestine as a journalist.
00:07It was quite amazing being actually part of the flotilla. I've never sailed before and the incredible bonding that took place on this huge journey that took so many weeks was a really important facet and we talked about motivation and mobilisation and getting to Gaza and the strength and the resilience of people was incredible.
00:30The sea was not necessarily our friend at all times. People got ill, they didn't leave the boats, they stayed on, they wanted to get to Gaza no matter what and so we faced bad weather, we faced difficulties getting along on such tiny boats but we did it and I learnt to sail. This is immense for me.
00:50It's so important now for ordinary people to rise up and to join any mission that helps the people of Gaza in any way and the fact that our governments won't do it means it's down to us.
01:05And if we have to make the sacrifice and put our bodies on the line, it's appalling that ordinary people are having to learn to sail to help people that are starving, that are being starved to death by the Israeli regime in this day and age.
01:21It's up to people of every country now to come forward and to join any sort of mission that can do what they can to really raise awareness and to actually help facilitate the survival of the Palestinians.
01:36I've said before and I'll say it again, you know, like they have hands and faces just like us but they're not.
01:43Underneath all of this they're monsters, they're like something I've never met before.
01:48They don't get along with each other, let alone anybody else. They're cruel, inhumane, brutal.
01:53I have bonded with probably, there's more than 46 nations. I've bonded with not just activists but doctors, students, all sorts of professionals from all around the world and everybody has the same feelings, the same need, the same motivation to get to Gaza.
02:11But it's incredible to meet so many people, so many foreign, you know, internationals, all with the same mindset.
02:18Everybody is against the Israeli regime and for right, you know, all the right reasons.
02:24And to see that this global movement is so strong, I think that was a real problem for the Israelis, how they deal with the entire world sailing to Gaza, which is...
02:34The actual physical assaults as well as the mental assaults, it's a whole bag of crimes against humanity, it's a whole bag of it.
02:43And if you think that you've managed to survive one day, then the next day there's a whole new set of tactics.
02:49The accommodation was unfit for habitation, it was a derelict prison, it was full of insects, the food was full of insects, the water was brown.
02:59So you're drinking fecal matter, you're drinking poisonous water, and they refused to allow us to have bottled water, so they denied us any ability to not drink the tap water, which was brown.
03:13So we were getting sick right from the get-go.
03:16But the lack of food, the lack of sleep, the sleep deprivation, slamming doors, shining torches into your face to make sure that you didn't sleep, moving you from cell to cell, lining you up against a wall that looked like a point of execution.
03:32We had to face the wall and stand in the scorching heat for about 10 minutes, and I thought, this is it, I'm going to be executed at this point.
03:42And then they made the men turn around and face the wall.
03:45So all of these scare tactics, there's thousands of them, and they use them at every minute of every day.
03:50So we were starving, we were passing out, we were fainting, we were suffering from dehydration.
03:56And they cruelly, like, sort of doubled up on that by making us drink filthy water and putting us in cages like animals.
04:05So I know that the Palestinians get far worse, but you get a little bit of understanding what the Palestinians have to cope with.
04:14If we were there for much longer, we would have started to die.
04:17To be honest with you, the moment I saw the Turkish plane, we were all cheering and getting into the Turkish airlines.
04:25The minute the plane took off the ground, we felt safe.
04:28And then Turkey just laid on this huge welcome party for us.
04:33So it was fantastic.
04:34We were clothed, we were given food, we were given water, we were given anything we wanted, really.
04:40And we were given hotels to stay in.
04:42It was fantastic.
04:43I felt we were rescued by Turkey.
04:46And I can't thank the Turkish government enough for all of the input.
04:49And making sure that we're okay, giving us hospitals, giving us doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists.
04:55And a place, a space, if you like, to express the fear that we had gone through and our own personal experiences.
05:04So we could get out on paper and all of those testimonies now will go forward to put a case against the Israeli machine.
05:11And rightly so.
05:19Thank you.
