00:0021-year-old Yasser Benayad is one of thousands of Gen Z Moroccans who've been taking part in protests for the past eight days.
00:09Like others of his generation, he wants the government to reform the health and education sectors and create job opportunities for young people.
00:19We took to the streets to express our demands in peaceful demonstrations in a neutral way and without violence.
00:26As for the acts of violence and vandalism we witnessed since Tuesday and Wednesday, they have nothing to do with us.
00:35We are conscious and educated youth, whether with or without academic degrees.
00:43Organized by online collective Gen Z212, the demonstrations have bucked the perception that young Moroccans are politically disengaged.
00:52I want to focus on my future. I want to build a family, to buy a house. Why not?
01:01The problem is that the government does not provide us with guidance regarding our educational future.
01:08For example, I have a degree in biology, but I don't know where I'll be able to work.
01:12As Morocco spends an estimated $5 billion on football infrastructure as it prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup,
01:25demonstrators believe the government has its priorities wrong.
01:29We demand a comprehensive reform of education and health, and we want job opportunities to be created.
01:37This is why we protested, because we're Generation Z, we're in our 20s, we want a decent life, we want to build families.
01:47Their list of demands also includes affordable housing, better public transport, improved wages and pensions,
01:53and lower and subsidized prices for basic goods.
01:59Thank you very much.
