00:00My name is Nick Witzel, Principal Designer at Vertical Games,
00:04and today I'll be your guide through this extended look at the gameplay for Thief VR Legacy of Shadow.
00:10You play as Magpie, an up-and-coming thief who finds herself tangled in a mysterious and supernatural plot
00:17involving the master thief, Garrett, who joins her on her journey.
00:21Could have done it quieter.
00:23Feel free to take the lead next time.
00:26Oh wait, you're just a voice in a trinket.
00:28Let's stay focused on the Glyph Stone, get to the manor, and try not to trip any alarms.
00:41There it is, Ravencourt Manor.
00:45Judging by those city watch patrols, I'd say the Glyph Stone's still inside.
00:51Using our mechanical eye, we can highlight enemies and important items and clues throughout the environment.
00:57Just spotted two guards and an electrical wire.
01:02Thief is a stealth game.
01:03Your goal is to steal while remaining undetected.
01:06So this area here looks interesting, but a bit too risky at the moment.
01:11Maybe another path provides us with more cover and darkness.
01:15To help you with this, you have a gem on your right hand,
01:18which only glows up if you're in the light and can be seen.
01:20Now we can also use items in our environment to create distractions, which guards will investigate.
01:34Let's use this bottle for instance.
01:36Now we've created a moment for us to safely explore this area.
01:49So if memory serves correct, there was another guard stationed around here, up higher.
01:53Yep, this guard wields a crossbow and has a good vantage point.
02:02If we want to explore the courtyard further, this guard needs to go.
02:06But we're a thief, not an assassin.
02:12Still, to be safe, we want to drag him out of the light and into the shadows.
02:17If he gets found, he'll be woken up, and the guards will sound the alarm, which we want to avoid.
02:21That heavy guard patrolling there is still a problem.
02:26With all the light around here, he can easily spot us.
02:29Luckily, we have a tool for that.
02:31Water arrows.
02:41Water arrows won't work directly on spotlights, but we can easily avoid its cone for now.
02:51If we listen carefully, we can hear someone walking on the right.
02:58In Thief, sound plays a crucial role in allowing you to determine where guards are in relation to you.
03:04Using our mechanical eye, we can see an electrical current going through the fuse box.
03:24It powers the spotlight, and it doesn't like water.
03:41Doors with diamond-shaped locks can be lockpicked.
03:43Minigame is pretty simple, only requires us to rotate our wrists to the right angles.
03:50All too easy!
03:51The tricky part is to not get spotted in the process.
03:57Now we're a bit later into the mission.
03:59We're at the back of the mansion, and trying to find our way in.
04:03We could have also gone through the front, or maybe through the side.
04:06Every mission provides you with multiple paths to your objective, and it's up to you to decide which way works best for you.
04:14Knocking out guards may seem like a catch-all solution, but helmets provide protection from a blackjack, causing me to make more sound when hitting them,
04:23even preventing me from knocking them out entirely if they're heavily armoured enough.
04:27But by paying attention to guard patrols, and sticking to the shadows, I can figure out a clever way to sneak through and leave no evidence altogether.
04:40I've spotted a window.
04:42I can't climb there directly, but luckily we have another tool at our disposal.
04:47The rope arrow.
04:48Rope arrows only work on anchor points, so you'll want to keep a good eye out for them.
05:02Next to rope arrows, there's also normal arrows and fire arrows, which provide more lethal means of dealing with problems, but also function as important tools.
05:14Hmm, looks like there's some nice loot ready for the taking.
05:19Collecting loot is an essential activity in all missions, as they provide us with the funds that purchase upgrades, like the different arrow types, or higher health.
05:32We can also use our fingers, or blow through our microphone, to extinguish these candles.
05:45If we listen carefully, we can hear a guard patrolling beyond.
05:48Let's unlock this door first, so we can have a peek.
05:52You can also disable the UI for lockpicking, and rely on the sounds and haptics in your controllers for a more immersive experience.
05:59Honestly, why does he bother?
06:03Honestly, why does he bother?
06:06Oh, gotta be careful.
06:13So if we listen carefully, we can hear the guard walking away from us.
06:18There, the coast is clear.
06:20These carpets also muffle our footsteps.
06:22Hmm, this looks like an interesting area, that display case looks promising.
06:30Players will be able to toggle UI for objective markers on or off to suit your preference.
06:35What's fun about having as little UI as possible, is that it makes the experience of exploring an area feel very immersive.
06:42Yep, that looks like the ancient artifact we're supposed to steal.
06:46Yep, that looks like the ancient artifact we're supposed to steal.
06:52The case doesn't have a lock.
06:53But it can't be that easy, right?
06:55Great!
06:56The Glif Stone's gone!
06:58Looks like it dropped into a vault.
07:00So, how do we find it?
07:02Down!
07:03We hope you enjoyed this deeper look into the gameplay of Thief VR Legacy of Shadow, and we welcome you to join Magpie and Garrett's sneaky adventure later this year.
