00:00it's just nice being out here it's a little quieter and you got a lot of nature
00:21hey leave the door open he'll come right in put that little puck shooting range out there too
00:35yeah it's real goalie gear on it so try to get them to take up a little bit more space
00:40they're not getting any smaller so i gotta the shooter tutors gotta get bigger i guess
00:45it's beautiful out here and it's just a great spot to come and just recharge a bit
00:52and then when it's time to go back to camp and get ready i'm also ready for that
00:56part of the job as a trainer is to push an athlete to the line right when sid's under a lot of physical
01:09exertion you can't see it on his face right where most athletes you can see it
01:13you guys can't see it
01:14you're working out and i'm looking at all these pictures of guys always putting them up
01:22that's the reason why i always put the winning captain okay that's the tradition that's that's
01:29who goes up there yeah like when we lost in 08 you know i just wanted that as a reminder so
01:34i started doing that kept putting them up and leave the empty one there hoping that uh that it's ours
01:41sydney crosby with an incredible backdoor pass sydney crosby made his nhl debut as an 18 year old
01:48one of the great sentiment of all time now 20 years later he's amongst the elite of the elite
01:55and he passes mario leviu for the most assists by a pittsburgh penguin a pillar of a generation
02:03that changed the sport
02:06but that generation is on its final lap
02:13and royalty reigns again in the nhl it's been over a decade since angé kopitar won his second
02:22stanley cup but as his hunger remains time is starting to run out these guys are old now they're
02:31old like i'm old so i know they're old sydney crosby and anjay kopitar came into the nhl together
02:37sydney crosby same draft
02:39same agent
02:42guys like this they're hockey gods
02:45but the next generation it's already here
02:49right now it still stings that we're not in the playoffs
02:55i'm always going to be a competitive person i don't really know any different
03:00how do legends grapple with mortality
03:03sydney's really thinking about what's best for him in his career
03:07should they hold on as tight as they can
03:08i'd want to win a stanley cup
03:10that's what still drives me to play
03:13go go go go go go go go
03:15or should they just let go
03:18you gotta go to him you gotta go to him
03:20there's no way that crosby can be happy
03:22playing out his final days on a rebuilding penguins team
03:26this final chapter
03:27what needs to change for l.a. this time around
03:30is their last chance
03:31to cement their immortality
03:36welcome back to montreal
03:54mario le mieu
03:56there is captain sydney crosby
04:01if you look at the parallels between you and mario
04:08obviously there are so many in your careers including everything to do with pittsburgh
04:12but even with canada do you think about that kind of thing
04:15to be part of that ovation that he received
04:17was really special and something to always remember
04:19i don't think about that a whole lot
04:22crosby for the goal line
04:23and crosby they score
04:24crosby to mckinnon
04:26i think about an unbelievable opportunity to play for team canada
04:31with a lot of guys that i've been waiting to play with for a while and it hasn't happened
04:35and to still be playing uh still it's it's not an easy league
04:39crosby defense of the final score
04:41he's obviously somebody that has just done everything in this game
04:46to see him work for the next couple of days it's a real treat for everyone here on this team
04:52i will argue with anyone sydney crosby
04:58today at 37 years old
05:01is the best all-around player
05:04in the nhl
05:05how can you compare the intensity
05:07so it's something you've seen in the year
05:08i mean the speed
05:10uh the intensity it's right up there
05:12with you know with playoff hockey
05:14so it's a lot of fun to be a part of that
05:16but
05:17we haven't seen crosby
05:19in a truly high stakes game
05:22in a long time
05:24the penguins made the playoffs 16 straight years of his career
05:28they won three stanley cups
05:30so he became accustomed to this lifestyle
05:33there's nothing better than playing the playoffs
05:35you crave that atmosphere that environment
05:37and the opportunity to win the stanley cup
05:39but the penguins are struggling to get back to the playoffs
05:44definitely some uncharted territory
05:46but the penguins no playoff hockey for the first time in 17 years
05:49it was just such a struggle for us to find consistency
05:52this was a new situation for us
05:54syd you end up back post
05:56at the four nations faceoff
05:58crosby gets to play with some unbelievable players
06:01including his best friend nate
06:03and it led to a lot of speculation and rumors
06:06that maybe that experience would open him up to the possibility
06:10of being traded away from the penguins
06:12so that he could have that experience in the nhl again
06:14brown world player of the game though
06:17i thought you could have had three
06:20couple more steps
06:22you could have had three
06:23but it was big kid
06:25you were fucking awesome
06:25i gotta go 87
06:33two years ago
06:50most people would say there's no way he's not a penguin for life
06:53and it's over canada wins
06:58but when four nations happened
07:00i think the perception around crosby shifted
07:03captain sydney crosby
07:07because that experience
07:09awoke what it feels like
07:11to be a part of those big time games
07:15hi guys
07:26come on in
07:27come on in
07:28lots of red carpet
07:33hi hello
07:34good how are you
07:35looking forward to today
07:37yeah i think it's going to be great
07:39obviously for a great cause
07:40and a lot of heavy hitters around
07:42so it should be very fun
07:44this is my 19th season
07:47it's been a fun ride
07:49you know to come here
07:52make a name for yourself
07:54and then stick for this long
07:55it's pretty special
07:57andrzej Kopitar
07:59he's just a quality human
08:01and a guy that the la kings
08:02and the la community
08:04have been very lucky to have
08:05not in the wildest
08:14dreams that i ever think
08:15that's i'm gonna make it to the nhl
08:18when when i was a little kid
08:19kopitar grew up a kid in slovenia
08:22a country with seven ice rinks in it
08:26and he finds a way to become an icon
08:30go go go
08:31i moved to sweden when i was 16
08:34for a couple years to develop a little more
08:36and then you get drafted
08:38and then
08:39and all of a sudden that dream
08:43is within reach
08:45i mean he's got it all man
08:48200 foot game
08:50one of the best defensive forwards we've ever seen
08:52and two stanley cups
08:54the kings have won their second stanley cup
08:58in three years
09:00are you rooting for any team in particular
09:08i'm accepting bribes
09:09whoever wants me on their side
09:11that's fine
09:11hey steve
09:13andrzej Kopitar
09:13nice to meet you
09:14nice to meet you
09:14how you doing
09:15doing well
09:16yeah
09:16good to meet you
09:16all right
09:17how's the how's the game
09:19really bad
09:20yeah
09:20oh that's okay
09:22it'll be fun
09:23yeah
09:23oh her day's made
09:27yeah i guess kopitar is a
09:30is a star in hollywood
09:31thank you
09:32thank you so much
09:33i got you the laugh that one game
09:34after i did the buddy the elf thing
09:36and the next game you met me
09:37and he just like shook your head
09:38and looked at me
09:39oh no
09:40trust me
09:41you guys are always so concentrated
09:42no
09:42i can see everything in anything
09:45i have to entertain myself
09:46of course
09:47that's good
09:48he is the
09:50heart and soul of the team
09:53don't let him hear that
09:54i don't know if
09:56he gets enough credit
09:57for the durability
09:59of playing that long
10:01and he's still
10:02operating at such a high level
10:04when you think about
10:08mount rushmore
10:10la kings
10:11andrzej kopitar is in that list
10:13no question
10:14he's been one of the most
10:17consistent performers
10:18not only on that team
10:19but across the league
10:20this is more than just a game tonight
10:23this is to thank all the first responders
10:25for those who lost their home
10:26but affected by fires
10:28we are here for you
10:29we're about to kick off
10:32for ceremonial puck drop
10:34guys like kopitar feel indebted to their organization
10:40so probably one of the last things on his list would be passing that torch on to a guy like quinton byfield
10:46and uh and hoping that quinton one day reaches his level of play as well
10:51when do we wake up quinton
10:53when do we wake up quinton
10:57good morning how are you
10:59you know my mom and my dad didn't play hockey
11:01nobody in my family played hockey
11:03and you know they didn't know much about it so
11:06uh growing up for me
11:07as a family kind of grew the game together
11:09and um experienced that together
11:11i taught quinton how to skate when he was like two and a half
11:15and i and it was very funny
11:17because the first time he skated
11:19i put him on the ice
11:20and usually i know like with chloe and stuff
11:23you know how you have to
11:23you're like killing yourself
11:25because they're dragging on your arm
11:27he just won
11:27overachiever
11:28yeah
11:29just keep up the good work
11:31so i can phone your mother i have a time to score
11:35being drafted second overall you're expected to be a star
11:44and you're expected to be a star pretty quickly
11:47and quinton byfield it took some time
11:49when he came in he was very raw
11:52and still getting used to the size of his body
11:54and from a mental standpoint
11:56learning the game at the pro level
11:57byfield hit hard in the corner
12:00staggers back to his feet
12:02and he's having trouble
12:04there's a lot of pressure on byfield to be
12:10next man up because
12:11you know once kopitar's gone
12:13who is the guy in la
12:14and byfield was drafted to be that guy
12:17and it's just whether he can take
12:20the final step
12:21to really solidify himself
12:23as a true franchise player
12:25i think just coming in
12:29you know i was pretty nervous
12:31and you know just growing up i'd watch kopi all the time
12:34you know just how good their team was at that time
12:39just coming in
12:40he just came i was kind of
12:42you know a little nervous
12:43didn't know what to do
12:43and he was someone i looked up to
12:45um you know he just always told me
12:47you know make your plays
12:48and uh he'll get open
12:49so that meant a lot for me
12:51you know that just almost
12:53you know allowed me
12:54to come into myself
12:55and you know be more comfortable
12:57with my game
12:58and play a lot better
12:59from downtown los angeles
13:05the golden knights
13:06and the los angeles kings
13:08the relationship between quentin and
13:14kulpitar is a special one
13:16as kulpitar
13:19kind of
13:19comes into the final few years
13:21of his career
13:22and quentin really
13:24emerging as a leader on this team
13:26a little bit of a passing of the torch
13:28quentin's performance is going to be
13:30vital to their success
13:32you know there's no secret that
13:45you know my time will come eventually
13:47and uh you know i got nothing but
13:50good thing to say about quentin
13:52hey knee is safe here phil come on
13:54yeah
13:56byfield under a little heat keeps it in
13:59back hitter down low
14:00hold on
14:01hey good work good work
14:05good fucking shift
14:06i see him as a future leader
14:10and a future staple of this organization
14:12hey
14:13quentin byfield four assists tonight
14:15now ten assists in his last six games
14:19that's it boys
14:24fuck your life bogey
14:25that's it you
14:26drummer
14:26what keeps you motivated at this stage for your career
14:45uh i think winning
14:47you know when you've played this long
14:49winning is what continues to push you
14:52at this point you know in my career
14:55seeing guys that you've played with
14:57move on not playing anymore
14:59it's seeing guys that you've played against
15:01now all of a sudden you're playing against
15:02their sons
15:03that's part of the game
15:05that's how it works
15:05but i still love playing and you're gonna see how far that takes me
15:10you know i laugh when i see old games on tv because i see myself come out of the picture
15:22and then i'm like oh i must go change and then i don't i'm back up in the play and i'm like i think i'm changing on that play now i think the shifts are maybe a little shorter
15:31but i'm always going to be a competitive person
15:36but i'm always going to be a competitive person
15:40and that's just that's just something that's in you it's a trade
15:47you gotta go to him you gotta go to him
15:52i don't really know any different
15:56it's kind of been that way for a long time
16:00crosby would do anything to win he's at this crossroads now of pittsburgh being
16:06on playoffs the last few years and it's got to be eating him alive
16:10it's only march but it's another lost season for the penguins their last place in their division
16:16it would take a miracle for them not to miss the playoffs for a third straight year
16:20you know we'd much rather be getting ready for a playoff series i mean that's that's the truth but
16:25um you just have to come in here and try to make the best of the situation and i think that's what
16:31guys are doing they're trying to go out there and still practice you know we'd like to finish on a
16:36on a good note here um i think that's important for us
16:42so you're just moving your body not the puck i like that i just want to keep working on that
16:47as a hockey fan i would love to see him get a chance to win another stanley cup because i feel
16:54like we're being robbed when we don't see sydney crosby play playoff hockey would he ever leave the
17:01pittsburgh penguins to try to win one more i think sydney crosby has earned the right to try to chase
17:09whatever he wants to chase right now with the trade deadline we're ready for everything it's
17:24like it's like free agency the prior 10 days up to today we've had so many conversations that are
17:31with our players and our families what 80 or 90 of the players that we're talking to will not be
17:37traded so you have to be ready there's curves being thrown at you all the time pat brisson is
17:44basically the nhl scott boris or jerry mcguire or whatever you want to say the the superpower agent
17:52that's him and he just so happens to represent sydney crosby and anje kopitar last couple weeks we
17:59we have a list of our players in preparation for the trade deadline and free agency in the draft
18:05the interesting question and i don't mind talking about it is obviously the status of sydney crosby
18:10you know people would say is sitting gonna get traded teams want to know if there's a possibility
18:15can i get that number one center because we we all want him in the playoffs the pittsburgh media would
18:22like this to quiet down but it's hard for us to not talk about it because there's no way that crosby
18:27can be happy playing out his final days on a rebuilding penguins team can he in pittsburgh
18:34you're you're going into the down cycle they've had an incredible 15 years they went to four stanley
18:39cup finals they won three of them they have been electric how long realistically will it take to turn
18:46this ship around at least for a playoff spot seriously i would be like get me out of here
18:50let me see when you've played a thousand game in this league and you've won two or three championships
18:59and you're a superstar in sydney's case it must be hard at times to see the light at the end of the
19:06tunnel when you know that you're not going to make the playoffs so that's hard to get ready every
19:11night and go out and play and perform for 60 minutes hi joe hi jen just a big a big trade just happened
19:27it's difficult um you know i think when when you're losing and you know you're not sure kind of
19:37you know where things are going to end up and you hear all the rumors and
19:39you know there's there's obviously thoughts that run to your head but
19:46yeah i think that i wouldn't say it was it was close no
19:52sydney crosby is committing to the pittsburgh penguins crosby settled on pittsburgh he wants
19:58to stay there presumably he'll he'll end his career there it does say a lot about syd
20:03i do take so much pride in playing for our team and being part of the organization the people there have
20:08been so great to me the team's been great uh year after year i've got amazing memories when you talk
20:14about losing or you hear players say losing sucks i mean i think everyone probably immediately thinks
20:21just losing games but i think it's everything that comes with it a lot of turnover so that's that's always
20:26difficult that's your that's your family i mean that's you're together every single day and there's
20:32real emotions that come with all that movement yes he's loyal but at the same time he's extremely
20:41competitive it's not an easy decision for him and we every year we want to see him playing spring
20:46hockey that's the bottom line and hopefully for him and the penguins it's the last year that they
20:51missed the playoffs the minnesota wild host the pittsburgh penguins sydney crosby and the penguins
21:02have been struggling big time they've lost four straight entering today the headline today mark
21:07andre fleury faces his former teammates in pittsburgh for what could be the final time mark under fleury is
21:14retiring this year feeling pretty good about his career sydney crosby and mark under fleury are forever
21:19entwined because of how they came up with the pittsburgh penguins and i think like if you were
21:23to imagine a buddy cop movie you would see those two because fleury is this fun loving guy
21:34crosby is the guy who takes his job super seriously is a little bit more stoic
21:41and then the places that they're at late in their careers could not be more different
21:45fleury is a backup goaltender on a team pushing for the playoffs what's it been like shifting to
21:53you know more of a backup yeah obviously it's more fun to play than sitting on the bench right
22:02every time the media talk to me they ask if i was going to be tired and i got tired of it
22:06but i'm still happy to be around happy that's still you know part of the team and just spend more time
22:12with my kids this stick's not even in the fucking weight and then sydney crosby is the best player
22:19on his team still one of the very best players in the world crosby winds fires gobbled up
22:26by fleury that flame is still burning hot and he's still intense as hell
22:34throws it down a walk and a tip and then he scores on the rebound
22:38and getting walking against his old buddy oh my god so lucky go go go ultimately this is about
22:49legacy for sydney crosby and apparently coming up here to the penguins jesus
22:55he grabbed my fucking stick to stay with an organization through a rebuild whatever you want
23:01to call it and win again that's the harder path what is there left to prove for you
23:09um if i have the opportunity to still compete in in the best league in the world then i want
23:18to be able to do that it's my passion that's why i do what i do is to try to win and i definitely want
23:24that to be here um hopefully the team believes that i'm going to be someone who's dependable in that
23:30area
23:40oh my god
23:47are you shitting me
23:48oh
23:51and syd's goal was just oh god i definitely didn't want them to score
23:57i feel like he's always like so relentless you know he's in his effort to get a goal right but
24:02it shows how serious he is and how much he loves the game and how much he wants to win games
24:07it's gonna be all over here in st paul's the penguins snap the four game losing streak all the guys
24:13want to shake flowers man just really happy for him that he was able to play at a high level the
24:18way he is to see the respect he got from other teams and recognition there you went with that
24:24change up on the on your first going flurry yeah uh get one there in the last game against him
24:30i will uh remind him of that many times he still talks about this junior goal is quite old so like
24:48i couldn't believe in the corner man did you see a
24:50fucking muffin him like this and then he tip he tip tip too oh there he is my friend that's sorry
24:56oh you too man like you too what's up buddy i feel like i was like before the game no way
25:03these guys can switch but i was like oh my god obviously i'm good buddy good yourself
25:09yeah you know hey hey no mini no amazon no amazon never give me discount
25:15you grow up together in the league and uh that's pretty special especially with so much turnover
25:21now when he walked away be content with how it was i mean i don't think everybody um
25:30doesn't necessarily work that way it's really been perfect in that way
25:34and sometimes you don't get that luxury you know sometimes it's kind of made for you
25:37even with the pen struggling crosby refuses to slow down at his current pace he'll average a
25:48point per game for the 20th season breaking one of wayne gretzky's most untouchable records
25:56and the player that crosby has been compared to for his entire career alexander ovechkin
26:01is taking aim at another page in the great ones record book alex ovechkin is knocking on the door
26:07just one goal away from surpassing wayne gretzky's career goals record we're on our way from the
26:14airport to see the capitals play the islanders and we'll find out whether or not the great a chase
26:24finishes up this afternoon this is a chase that captures the imagination it's a record that people
26:33never thought would be broken hello
26:44i think to score that much that consistently you've got to have more than a big shot
26:48you name it you know he's found ways to score goals and it's special the great thing about our
26:54game is the people who are in it we all learn from our mentors and so i wouldn't have felt right
26:59not being here i i'm so proud of what i accomplished in my career and it's hard and i'm so happy for alex
27:07this is incredible for the game
27:09i'm not quite like he was because like you still get 40 goals this year i got nine my last year
27:19my last game back to the base i said you know something really cool my dad took me in my first
27:24game i'm going to drive with my dad my last game so we're in the car after the game i was just
27:28saying how was the drive i go one of the most drives in my life she goes everything you can
27:32you know you can play one more year i said dad you got nine goals this year that used to be a good
27:41weekend alex ovechkin has scored 41 goals this season 894 in his illustrious career
27:51year oh he tipped that yes he does he almost scored he tipped that definite
28:04points wherever ovechkin is around the puck in the offensive zone
28:18he's a pure goal scorer it's what he is obviously breaking the record this year and you know i
28:37personally never thought it could happen they say records are made to be broken but i'm not sure who's
28:42going to get more goals than that alex i said i'd be the first guy to shake your hand when you broke
28:49the record congratulations
29:05all right here we go
29:07are you guys excited for playoffs to start too yeah are you guys going to come to playoff games of
29:18course yeah why not let's do it
29:30all i want for my little two is just to have fun really you know it's uh they've enjoying
29:36hockey and figure skating what do you want skates to be tight you want me to do it i hope they do it
29:45and keep enjoying and then having fun good yep huh yep all right
29:58you know when i do get a chance on on a day off like today i'll you know i'll come here and watch and
30:04uh for me it's just the progress that they make pull straight and then in okay okay i remember we went
30:13to vegas last year it was my first time watching our live and uh my heart was pounding probably more
30:19than any game sevens and any stanley cup final games that that i played that's better good yeah
30:26you know for me compete perform playing games that's like an everyday job to me but then watch
30:34your kids play it's a completely different story and a lot more nerve-wracking are you nervous when
30:39your sister skates yeah why are you nervous because i want to do it good it's like me i don't know
30:45what's going to do it good i think this is what's so amazing about the sport of hockey really
31:06you punch your way into the playoffs and anything can happen there's 16 teams that have a very good
31:13chance of winning the fourth consecutive year the oilers and the kings have met in the first round
31:21la looking to up and the oilers for the first time this is going to be four times in a row now
31:28and edmonton's got their number as far as la the the frustration is rising and uh they need to get
31:35off to a hot start at home dowdy shoots save rebound byfield shoots scores and the kings survive game one
31:49can they actually beat the edmonton oilers and can they slay the beast that keeps sending them home early
31:55i think it's fun you know a little rivalry that we got going but you know it's our time to finally
32:03win against them this team i think has got it you know it excites me that's now we have some experience
32:22too the l.a kings use their home ice advantage to the fullest they will take a two nothing serious lead
32:37with them to edmonton the first two games were good the pain that we've gone through the last couple
32:45years motivated the team more so this year than any other year but to take the next step to win a
32:52series in in the playoffs is is hard it usually comes down to one face off a block shot the little
33:00play on along the boards it's it's as simple as that
33:04now we go have our best 20. we got the game plan guys are skating everybody's working
33:17now we have our best come on baby come on best hardest 20 in the night huh come on
33:24fucking smart make plays do your next three two kings and off the draw under a minute to play in the
33:34third period anderson got clobbered there's 40 seconds left in the game picked up by the kings
33:43but i didn't get the puck out oh he had the chance and he waited too long
33:47now it's just a little thing that turned into a massive thing
34:0048.4 to go and that worked hard
34:05my field elects to try to make the move he wants to get it out did not get the clear
34:12comes back to honcha one time shot the boost ball all right let's go boys
34:18and there you go we'll have overtime and la will look to shrug off the disappointment
34:23let's go be a better team right off the bat eh we're better all game
34:28do do what we did in those first two periods we're winning this game come on
34:33someone here's a hero we do it together whatever it takes come on let's go
34:41go play
34:42clear clear clear
34:42gofee's going
34:44gofee's going
34:46the goal lines be on dry side
34:48ryan newton hawkins is there pass down low redirect and kick that rebound score
34:53dry side all
34:57and this series is tied up at two
34:59jim how do you change your approach in the third period to better close out games
35:08how do i change it
35:11next question please q chips that one out b sharp makes a good play we're not even talking about this
35:17so how about that there's a lot of hard things that happen that you want to do over on you're trying
35:28to do your best and it doesn't always go your way you kind of have to live with it if you look
35:33at that play itself yes he didn't get the puck out but us as a whole we didn't get the job done and that's the bottom line
35:52oh maybe maybe that's why i cut it too right i'm assuming
35:57it's like a good one mississippi two mississippi and
36:00what are you just gonna stop because you're in there
36:06are you waked up or no start talking
36:09i'm mute i'm mute today man
36:13i am
36:17obviously after a loss it's you know everybody's kind of down for a little bit
36:21so it's good to watch the games with each other you know kind of brings us back together and gets
36:24ready for tomorrow you know i've been doing this for quite a while uh it's probably
36:30new for some of the young guys obviously coming in here but i think at this point it's just kind
36:35of like a way of life really you know you know what you need to do you know in order to get ready
36:40for the games because that's the ultimate goal is trying to win games
36:48here we go in game six los angeles trying to force a game seven
36:53the extra skater is on six out of five kings down by two don't force the thing working around the
37:00outside more wallman swats at it huck saddles final minute down to your drive sko
37:09kopitar might have got a piece of that and it's a one goal game with 53 seconds to go in the third
37:17we are going to the motherfucking net and that's going either from here or from here and we're all
37:23crashing that fish 40 seconds to go six on five kings looking for a much-needed equalizer
37:33went in byfield huck possession toward the net it's loose and thrown picker kicks it out on kopitar
37:39and for a fourth straight year the oilers take down the kings in the first round of the stanley cup
38:02playoffs you know everybody's sick and tired of losing in the first round
38:09it's a tough pill to swallow we didn't do the job good job it'll be great everybody good luck the
38:15rest thank you appreciate it hey you're great buddy keep getting better i couldn't believe the season
38:20was over it just didn't like almost feel real at some points it was just felt like you had more
38:25hockey to play you had more to give and we just weren't ready for that
38:33this one hurts a little more it's frustrating winning the first two games and then
38:39just not able to you know to close games out and it cost us in the end as the captain you've been
38:47through so much with this team just what what'd you say to the guys i didn't say anything yet
38:53i'm sure we'll get together at some point in the next few days and we'll talk about stuff and
38:58uh yeah i didn't didn't say a whole lot tonight thanks andre
39:14you know what i do now was a little bit different than what i did 10 years ago so
39:25i probably appreciate what i was doing 10 years ago it's fun though it's fun to get after it in the
39:30summer lots of things changed over the years it's my job to sort of feel out the art of the gas and
39:36the break probably one of the characteristics that defines sid is the ability to respond well to a
39:44challenge so the harder things get the more adversity rolls in i think the more response you
39:49see and it's a nice problem to have when when you have to pull an athlete back every once in a while
39:54definitely the model that every player is trying to build after in terms of how to rise to the
39:58occasion and how to get the most out of yourself the intensity always shines through is that the
40:03same at 37 as it was at 18. oh he's probably better asked but uh it's just trying to gain what you can
40:13in the off season it's an opportunity to to build and get better and only one way to do it
40:23do you want to win a stanley cut off the hand i do i mean that's that's the goal i mean that's what
40:32you that's what you play for and you know it's something that seems so far away regardless of who
40:37you are you know if you're a team who's maybe you know at the bottom of the league and that might seem
40:44far away too but um you know regardless of your perspective or how you view it uh that's that's
40:52what you play for and and that's what uh still motivates me to this day for sure
40:56i think the biggest thing is just finding a passion for something
41:13i don't know if i'll ever find a passion quite the same as hockey
41:18i mean being an nhl player sometimes we get lost in just the wins and the losses
41:23but there's only 700 of us right now that get to live that dream so that's something that i'm
41:30trying to do is enjoy the moment and enjoy the present
41:36oh like growing up kind of slowly just building kept working and you know kept trying to be a better
41:41player i'm gonna be losing some good balls here i think that's what i just want to keep doing
41:46the nhl as well like you know with the guidance of kopi it was a big building step for me this year
41:50and uh you know next year i just want to continue with that growth and be more of a pro that was a
41:55good part too competitiveness is something that's in me so i think i'm always going to have that
42:09winning is is probably the biggest motivating factor
42:14you know when you've played this long you know there's there's always going to be uh challenges
42:18but i think the aspect of winning is what you know continues to push you
42:29so this is the island in the middle of the lake and people that get married in town tradition is the
42:36groom has to carry the bride right from the bottom to the top of the stairs and there's actually 99 steps
42:43i've been eating very good there's a church on here so you know for the i guess newlyweds they'll go and
42:52they can ring the bell make a wish you know for me it's actually pretty special because uh me and
42:59inez came here just before the 2012 season
43:09i'm pretty sure everybody knows what my wish was
43:15but taking the next step in the in the playoffs is hard i mean winning in the playoffs is hard
43:19unless you've been to the very top and the Stanley Cup final 2025 is underway i don't think anybody
43:28realizes it how hard it is to get there
43:39Waiting for that morning sun
43:44Don't you keep on marching on
43:49Don't you keep on marching on
43:54Don't you keep on marching on
