00:00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most effective and or
00:00:11clever ways to handle a horror film problem. Some spoilers ahead for the following movies.
00:00:16You have allowed them to dictate every decision of your life.
00:00:22Number 75. Checking the door cameras. Weapons. While grieving his missing child,
00:00:27Archer finally steps up with a possible solution. His idea is to check the security
00:00:31cameras of various families in the neighborhood. With a little amateur sleuthing, the man determines
00:00:36what direction each kid is running. It's an ingenious plan that the cops probably should
00:00:40have thought about before. What do you see? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
00:00:50After triangulating these positions, the father receives a tip that sends him straight to the
00:00:58right spot. It all sets up a finale that's as brash and bold as it is violent.
00:01:12Zack Kreger's tight script lets you follow along like an investigator. Keeping the audience at bay,
00:01:18the filmmaker still makes it known how effective this investigation can be.
00:01:26Number 74. Following the rules. Zombieland. Using important guidelines,
00:01:31Columbus survives his adventure through the zombie apocalypse. He exercises caution in any
00:01:35number of situations that keep him safe and ready for action. This includes staying limber, fit and
00:01:40adaptable. Bathrooms should be checked with extreme caution, with a trusty weapon always coming in
00:01:55hand. The characters run in with Tallahassee and other survivors put these rules to the test.
00:01:59What are you looking for? Nothing, I just have this list. No one back there but my duffel bag.
00:02:05Even when he's forced to go back and save his friends, the hero knows to stick to his code.
00:02:09We think if the undead ever take over, we'll need to do a rewatch to get a few extra tips.
00:02:15Rule number 22. When in doubt, know your way out.
00:02:21Number 73. Letting the villain get close. Heretic.
00:02:24In this horror movie, two Mormon missionaries end up locked in a disturbed person's home.
00:02:28Only one makes it to the end, to face off with Hugh Grant's antagonist.
00:02:32Sister Paxton listens to Mr Reed's final monologue and even lets him get close.
00:02:36You are here because the ideas of others have influenced every single decision you've made
00:02:41since the day you were born and I've been able to predict every decision you'd make tonight because
00:02:45of that. Just when he least expects it, the nemesis gets a surprise in the neck.
00:02:49The move gives the young hero a chance to flee. You could call the evil guy short-sighted,
00:02:58but he did fall for an effective blow. Not sure if he'll ever understand the error of his ways though.
00:03:03Grant's villain might be charming, but he's clearly been outsmarted by his uninvited guest.
00:03:14Number 72. Backing up. Jeepers Creepers.
00:03:17Trish and Darry Jenner are on the worst road trip ever. Interrupted by the Creeper,
00:03:21the siblings don't have an easy go of it.
00:03:28This all leads them to a nighttime confrontation. Trish ends up hitting the villain with her car,
00:03:33doing the best that she can to subdue the enemy. The driver then makes a smarter decision than
00:03:37others have in horror movies. She decides to back up over the nemesis, running him over for good measure.
00:03:42It's a meta moment that shows these characters are more skilled than they appear. Jeepers Creepers
00:03:51doesn't end there, but it does give the heroes another chance.
00:03:54I don't know how much further this car is going to go.
00:03:59Far enough.
00:04:02Number 71. Trick Basement. Halloween.
00:04:05Michael Myers is nothing short of a stubborn guy. Throughout the series and this film,
00:04:09he shows how deadly he can be. The villain seems smarter than everyone until he messes with Laurie
00:04:14Strode. With the heroine defending her home and family, the stage is set for a dramatic ending.
00:04:18Happy Halloween, Michael. Myers doesn't account for some added fortifications in the main character's
00:04:25house. When he's surprised by a few hidden features, the slasher antagonist finds himself trapped.
00:04:30Goodbye, Michael.
00:04:39A barrier prevents an exit and a massive fire keeps him at bay. While he isn't completely gone,
00:04:44the enemy meets his match with some skilled opponents.
00:04:59Number 70. Making sure it's the right shark. Jaws.
00:05:03Everybody worries in this movie about the titular enemy. After catching a tiger shark,
00:05:07it appears like things might be okay. The mayor wants the beach to stay open and goes along with
00:05:23everything. Hooper thinks otherwise, cutting into the aquatic predator to be sure. The oceanographer
00:05:28and Brody figure out that there's nothing human inside the dead fish. With this news, they know to
00:05:43keep looking for the real target. It's a small and gross way to double check for the right answer.
00:05:47On their own investigation, the heroes use this information to go on their own hunt. It's often
00:05:52the more scientific characters that can be pivotal in horror plots.
00:06:0669. Zero Gravity. Alien Romulus.
00:06:09For a sequel to a long-running franchise, this entry still has plenty of surprises. This includes a new
00:06:15way to fight the Xenomorphs. Rain and her trusty android are cornered, but a rifle and zero gravity
00:06:20help. Aliens start to float and make for much easier targets. They're also thrown off their usual moves,
00:06:37making it harder to attack. Some well-placed shots take out each one and send their acid flying.
00:06:42Alien Romulus is never more intense or exciting than this late-game scene. Just when you think
00:06:54it could all crumble, the hero finds a way to outsmart her otherworldly predators.
00:06:58Stay behind me!
00:07:05Candy, be careful.
00:07:06Number 68. One way. It comes at night.
00:07:14To survive an apocalypse, a family lives a secluded life in a remote home.
00:07:17They have one door that accesses the house and another behind that.
00:07:21When we're inside the house, the door to the back room stays closed and locked, the one that you came
00:07:27through. And the door leading to the back room also stays closed and locked all the time.
00:07:33This helps centralize all of their worries, with every other entryway boarded up or inaccessible.
00:07:38It's especially helpful when another group shows up to complicate things.
00:07:49The rules might be strict, but they ensure that there's no extra surprises to all hours of the day.
00:07:54Many movie characters over the years might have benefited from the same concept.
00:07:58With this film, Doomsday Preppers could learn a thing or two.
00:08:03Number 67. Iodine. 28 Years Later.
00:08:14Ralph Fiennes is a mystery in 28 Years Later, with his whereabouts and motives proving elusive.
00:08:20The hero finally meets Dr. Ian Kelson and realises the latter is a wizard with the undead.
00:08:25Excuse my appearance. I paint myself in iodine. It's an excellent prophylactic.
00:08:32The virus doesn't like iodine at all.
00:08:34More specifically, he's figured out that the effective don't love iodine.
00:08:38It makes him look extra frightening for the average humans as well.
00:08:42Along with his inventive blow darts, the man might just be the most resourceful of the entire cast.
00:08:47Morphine. Xylozine. He's extremely fast acting.
00:08:51Fine's reserved performance only makes this guy that much more compelling.
00:08:55Regardless of what happens in the sequels,
00:08:57Kelson might be the safest character to work alongside.
00:09:00Get it!
00:09:02Number 66. Zombies Ignore Animals. Dawn of the Dead.
00:09:14When the survivors need to send important items to a neighbour, they realise that they can use a dog.
00:09:19Turns out that the zombies in this Dawn of the Dead don't react to animals.
00:09:22I get it.
00:09:23You've got to get over there anyway because there's more ammunition, alright?
00:09:29I have an idea.
00:09:30As the humans watch from the rooftop, they see chips slip by unscathed.
00:09:34You could see a system like this working well with a fully stocked building.
00:09:40Let me see.
00:09:44Things then get complicated when Nicole goes after the pet, but it's hard not to blame her for wanting to save it.
00:09:49The survivors leave for another area, and you could imagine them using the same method elsewhere.
00:09:54Chips, no!
00:09:59Number 65. Cheeseburger Order. The Menu.
00:10:02In a movie full of fine dining, this one features a surprisingly simple dish.
00:10:06Anya Taylor-Joy's heroine wonders about escaping the deadly dinner.
00:10:10By the end, she forces the evil chef's hand by asking for a burger.
00:10:14You know what I'd really like?
00:10:15Tell me.
00:10:17A cheeseburger.
00:10:26No, we can do a cheeseburger.
00:10:28A real cheeseburger.
00:10:30The order wins the guest a way out and a safe journey off the island.
00:10:33Other customers try to run or reason with the antagonist, but this special task proves to be the golden ticket.
00:10:38No, that is a cheeseburger.
00:10:44It's among the more unlikely and surprising strategies in horror movie history.
00:10:49As the others await their fiery fate, Margot can eat her food safely from a boat.
00:10:59Number 64. Live streaming in Bathroom.
00:11:02Trap.
00:11:03Attending a concert with his daughter, Cooper Abbott must escape the venue with the headliner Lady Raven.
00:11:08This kidnapping prompts the singer to take the villain's phone and lock herself in the bathroom.
00:11:12Hey guys, I need help here. I need it right now.
00:11:16There's a young man named Spencer in a basement. He needs us to find him.
00:11:20This is not a joke. We only have seconds. I know you can do this.
00:11:25Does anyone in Philadelphia or nearby New Jersey live near a statue of a broken lion?
00:11:31She's the only person that's been able to thwart the man up to that point.
00:11:34Taking advantage of the situation, Raven calls on her fans to help her find another hostage.
00:11:39To the girl who just answered. There's only a few minutes.
00:11:43Get your family and other adults and go there right now. There's a young man in a basement.
00:11:48Abbott is unable to steal the device away before the live stream.
00:11:51The performer puts her own life on the line, using social media and her audience to make a difference.
00:11:56M. Night Shyamalan's thriller lets the heroic character improvise in a smart twist.
00:12:02May I have my phone?
00:12:06And the rest of the phones you have.
00:12:08Number 63. Self-surgery. Prometheus.
00:12:11Due to some shifty work by android David, Holloway ends up putting his love interest
00:12:16Elizabeth Shaw in danger. The archaeologist finds herself impregnated with a foreign being.
00:12:21Come on!
00:12:22Initiating anaesthetics.
00:12:23Come on!
00:12:24Come on!
00:12:25Come on!
00:12:25Come on!
00:12:26Come on!
00:12:26Come on!
00:12:27With only minutes to save herself, Shaw takes drastic medical action.
00:12:31She uses equipment to surgically remove the alien.
00:12:33Come on!
00:12:34Come on!
00:12:34Come on!
00:12:36Come on!
00:12:36Come on!
00:12:38Come on!
00:12:38Come on!
00:12:39It's among the more graphic scenes of the franchise, but the result saves the hero's life.
00:12:43Most of the other crew members are not as lucky.
00:12:46The entire procedure goes well enough, with a fast recovery that allows the women
00:12:49to leap into action and run away. We're not sure if we could have been brave enough to pull off the same thing.
00:13:05Number 62. Sneaky Grenade.
00:13:07Maximum Overdrive.
00:13:08It's not the best movie, but Maximum Overdrive is a good time.
00:13:12The film gives you a good idea of what a machine uprising might be.
00:13:15Now when I say run, you run, okay?
00:13:19Emilio Estevez's character uses a grenade against the platform truck,
00:13:22with his stealthy work making for a big boom.
00:13:35He causes a distraction and is able to deliver a major blow to the enemy.
00:13:39It's more of a blunt decision, but one that does end up helping out.
00:13:42Stephen King's world gets a little more wacky here, as the heroes discover a loophole.
00:13:46You can call it ingenuity, or you can call it a half-baked scheme that pays off.
00:13:51It's also a more explosive way to gain the upper hand and eventually escape.
00:13:55Can we get out of here?
00:13:56Yeah, though, I think it's time to get out of here.
00:13:58Let's go, gang. Let's go.
00:14:00Let's go, gang.
00:14:03Number 61.
00:14:04Living Underground.
00:14:05Day of the Dead.
00:14:06In this entry of the Living Dead franchise, George Romero puts his heroes underground.
00:14:10The base is a virtual fortress separated by a large elevator.
00:14:14As long as everybody maintains their cool, this is even better than a shopping mall.
00:14:18The survivors are a group of hotheads and unstable people, making this adventure more complicated.
00:14:37This doesn't change the fact that it's a pretty secure place.
00:14:39We don't get a lot of visitors out here, and we like it that way.
00:14:45There it is.
00:14:47There it is.
00:14:48As long as you don't freak out and let a bunch of zombies inside, you'll do just fine.
00:14:52This crew learns the hard way that you should take these rules seriously in order to survive the undead.
00:14:57Number 60.
00:15:07Poking Hole in Plastic.
00:15:08Terrifier.
00:15:09If you're a fan of the Terrifier series, you know that the villain usually gets his way.
00:15:14The first one in particular involves more than a few gruesome deaths.
00:15:17Art the Clown chooses to wrap plastic around Victoria's head, but the latter has other ideas.
00:15:28She decides to poke a hole in the plastic and gasp for some much-needed air.
00:15:32Rather than suffocating, the character chooses the best way to spare herself.
00:15:40It's incredible that many victims in similar films haven't tried the same trick.
00:15:44With such quick thinking, this distressed damsel knows how to deal with this faulty murder weapon.
00:15:54Number 59.
00:15:55Planting Bombs.
00:15:56The Belco Experiment.
00:15:57On the worst day of his life, Mike Milch must fight off his co-workers at Belco Industries.
00:16:02He's then confronted by the people that organized this disturbing test.
00:16:06When Milch receives a debriefing, he reveals what he's done to outsmart everyone.
00:16:10And where are these explosives now?
00:16:13On you.
00:16:14Every victim has an explosive device implanted in them that can go off with a switch.
00:16:19The hero secretly slips these into pockets, dashing for the board to unleash his plan.
00:16:23This sends almost everyone packing and lets the employee pick up a gun.
00:16:29With some amazing foresight, this everyday man becomes the ultimate warrior.
00:16:33Michael, your actions are today.
00:16:40You believe.
00:16:43You believe life is sacred.
00:16:45Number 58.
00:16:46Boarding Up House.
00:16:47Night of the Living Dead.
00:16:49Ben and the other survivors perform a basic act in this movie.
00:16:52They aren't inventing the act of boarding up a home,
00:16:54but they arguably influenced every zombie story afterwards.
00:16:58The characters know that it's in their best interest to seal everything off from intruders.
00:17:10Night of the Living Dead features a great location and gives the characters a chance to secure it.
00:17:15The heroes know that they'll be much better off inside, but eventually they have to leave.
00:17:19People are much better off staying behind the door and nailing it shut.
00:17:30The only trouble is finding a group willing to let you back inside.
00:17:44Number 57.
00:17:45Pretending to be Zombies.
00:17:47Shaun of the Dead.
00:17:48The lead character and his friends head for a local pub,
00:17:51but they need to get by the Zombies.
00:17:53This inspires the team to do some acting.
00:17:55They all must drop their best impressions, fully prepared to walk by the undead.
00:18:06Not everyone in the group is up to the task, though.
00:18:08If the apocalypse happens, you'd be much better off shacking up with some method actors.
00:18:12Two seconds.
00:18:14Hey, Noodle.
00:18:14You alright, mate?
00:18:16Yeah, man.
00:18:16I can't really talk now.
00:18:17Did you get anything yet?
00:18:18I've got nothing.
00:18:19Oh, really?
00:18:19No, I'm right in the middle of something.
00:18:21In the middle of something.
00:18:21Yeah.
00:18:22It's weird, isn't it?
00:18:23Oi!
00:18:24What are you doing?
00:18:25The plan doesn't last all that long as some of the survivors can't maintain focus.
00:18:29Shaun of the Dead does a brilliant job at setting up the horror genre,
00:18:32poking fun at the nature of a walk astride.
00:18:34You were saying about another way in?
00:18:37Yeah, there's a girl.
00:18:40What are you doing?
00:18:42No!
00:18:45Get inside!
00:18:46Number 56
00:18:47Evie Bites Walter
00:18:48At the climax of this horror movie, The Invitation gives you a wedding scene to remember.
00:18:53Evie figures a way out of this horrific situation.
00:18:55Biting her new husband's arm, the heroine becomes a vampire.
00:18:59This makes her a practical superhero in this movie world.
00:19:10With maximum power and a renewed confidence,
00:19:12the lead character fights back against Deville's crew.
00:19:23This all makes for an exciting and massive turn of events.
00:19:26Sometimes it's best to just give in to the process.
00:19:29But to use it all to your advantage.
00:19:31That's certainly the case with The Bride in this film.
00:19:42Number 55
00:19:43Escape Plan
00:19:44Event Horizon
00:19:46This rescue mission doesn't go exactly as planned.
00:19:48Investigating a distress signal, a space crew discovers a horrifying story on the titular ship.
00:19:54The rescuers watch a disturbing video that shows them what happened.
00:20:00I'm stuck!
00:20:01Upon seeing the evidence, Captain S.J. Miller tells everyone it's time to go.
00:20:05Other horror movie heroes would want to stick around and take their chances.
00:20:09Thankfully in this story, somebody has the brains to step up and tell everybody to leave.
00:20:15We're leaving.
00:20:16Event Horizon doesn't end well for everybody, despite this intelligent decision.
00:20:20At the very least, Miller tries to give his crew a fighting chance to not suffer the same fate.
00:20:25The crew is dead, Doctor. Your ship killed them.
00:20:28We came here to do a job.
00:20:29We're aborting, Doctor!
00:20:31Number 54
00:20:32Shaving His Head
00:20:33Friday the 13th, the final chapter.
00:20:35The many sequels of this franchise revolve around a fight with Jason.
00:20:39This climax is no different in its setup, but the villain might have met his match.
00:20:43Trish fends off Jason long enough for Tommy to show up with a bald head.
00:20:55The younger character stuns the masked killer, leading to a team-up of epic proportions.
00:20:59There's also a useful machete up for grabs.
00:21:01The Jarvis family each take turns with a sharp blade,
00:21:04making for an intense and satisfying comeuppance.
00:21:06Who would have thought that a new haircut could foil one of the great horror icons?
00:21:21Number 53
00:21:24Getting Freddy and Jason to Fight
00:21:26Freddy vs Jason
00:21:27Lori and Will are in a tight spot near the end of this film.
00:21:30The heroes and their friends find themselves between two titans, but they discover an escape.
00:21:34Freddy is about to strike until Jason shows up.
00:21:37This gives the protagonist a chance to flee, with the main villains fighting each other.
00:21:54It's just the chance the good guys need to make a mad dash.
00:21:57The two horror legends can't resist duking it out,
00:22:00distracted by each other and eager to prove themselves.
00:22:04This helps in the short term, even though characters like Kia don't make it out.
00:22:23Number 52
00:22:24Pretending to Patch Things Up
00:22:25The Invisible Man
00:22:26Throughout this tense thriller,
00:22:28Cecilia Cass believes that she's being tormented by her ex-partner.
00:22:31The ending then gives Cass a chance to get her revenge.
00:22:34When her former boyfriend makes a surprise return,
00:22:36the hero decides to meet the man for dinner.
00:22:39And we can't start this with a lie.
00:22:41But I'm not starting with a lie.
00:22:47It wasn't me.
00:22:48Things take a violent turn with a knife,
00:22:50and the potential use of an invisible suit.
00:22:52You're left with a few questions,
00:22:54but you're also pretty sure that Elizabeth Moss' character made it all happen.
00:23:01She pretends to give the antagonist what he wants before turning the tables.
00:23:05After so much gaslighting,
00:23:06the victim manages to take charge and provide a convincing alibi for herself.
00:23:11It's a 3333 Celestial Drive.
00:23:25Number 51
00:23:26Stash Guns
00:23:27Sinners
00:23:28Smoke stashes away some high-powered weapons for a rainy day,
00:23:31or in this case, a fight with some racist villains.
00:23:34He survives a terrifying night, a vampire ambush, and a brawl with his brother.
00:23:38You'd think he'd be worn out or worse.
00:23:41A gang then shows up to throw the main character for a loop.
00:23:43Using a Tommy gun and more, Michael B. Jordan's hero surprises his enemies and takes them all out.
00:23:52He could have easily been killed if he didn't have that kind of firepower waiting.
00:24:00While he might be mortally wounded,
00:24:02the man still wins the day before seeing his family again.
00:24:09Number 50
00:24:10Ripley sets off the fire alarm.
00:24:12Aliens
00:24:13Poor Ripley and Newt find themselves in a waking nightmare,
00:24:16surrounded by live facehuggers, completely defenseless and unable to cry for help.
00:24:20Help! Help! Help! Help! Help! Help!
00:24:25Break the glass!
00:24:27They're trapped in the station's medical bay, and none of the other marines can hear their scuffle with the facehuggers.
00:24:33Fortunately, Ripley thinks on her feet. She takes a lighter and puts the flame next to the room's
00:24:37fire suppression system, causing an alarm to go off.
00:24:40Seeing the alarm, the marines rush to the medical bay, just in time to save Ripley and Newt.
00:24:45All clear!
00:24:47Nailed the other one. It's history, man.

00:24:49Making a newspaper curtain
00:24:51Train to Busan
00:24:52Featuring uncommonly smart characters for a horror film,
00:24:56Train to Busan follows a group of people stuck on a train with bloodthirsty zombies.
00:25:00These zombies are of the 28 Days Later variety. Screechy, speedy, and highly aggressive.
00:25:06In one scene, a horde of zombies are looking through a glass door at our heroes,
00:25:10and Seok Woo realizes that they're attracted to movement.
00:25:17Thinking fast, Song Kyung grabs a water bottle and a newspaper.
00:25:21She splashes the water onto the glass and sticks the newspaper to the water,
00:25:25effectively making a curtain that prevents the zombies from seeing them.
00:25:28And with that, the threat is neutralized. For now.

00:25:37Selina Kills Mark
00:25:3828 Days Later
00:25:39Speaking of 28 Days Later, this film revolutionized the zombie genre,
00:25:43introducing fast runners and new rules.
00:25:46In most zombie movies, characters have a couple of days from when they're infected until they turn.
00:25:50In 28 Days Later, it's 20 seconds.
00:25:53So you have to act fast, and that's exactly what Selina does.
00:25:56Were you bitten?
00:25:59A no-nonsense character, focused purely on survival, she quickly deduces that Mark has been infected in
00:26:04the house attack. She simply reads the panic on Mark's face, grabs her machete, and gets to work.
00:26:09Mark?
00:26:13Wait.
00:26:14It's horrifically brutal, but it has to be done, and Selina is the one to do it.

00:26:23Setting the room on fire
00:26:251408
00:26:26Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire, and Mike Enslin takes that literally.
00:26:31Mike finds himself trapped in a haunted hotel room that plays tricks on his mind,
00:26:35and taunts him with the ghost of his deceased daughter.
00:26:37Are you ready to check out, Mr. Enslin?
00:26:43No.
00:26:44Having no other means to escape, and nearing the end of his sanity,
00:26:47Mike makes a Molotov cocktail, and burns the room down.
00:26:50This not only kills its malevolent spirit, but also allows firefighters to enter the gutted room,
00:26:55and rescue him from the inferno.
00:26:57He reunites with his estranged wife, and all is well.
00:27:00Of course, Mike doesn't make it out in the director's cut,
00:27:02but he's still content with having defeated the room, and freeing its trapped souls.
00:27:07Daddy?
00:27:12Yes, of course.

00:27:17Getting distance from the entity
00:27:18It follows
00:27:19You're being followed by a deadly entity.
00:27:21It doesn't sleep, no one else can see it, and when it touches you, you die.
00:27:25So, what do you do?
00:27:26That's the question at the heart of It Follows,
00:27:29and while some of the plans are pretty silly,
00:27:31others are surprisingly smart.
00:27:32One of the best ideas comes from Jeff, a student who had previously been infected by the entity.
00:27:38If it kills her, it gets me, and goes straight down the line to whoever started it.
00:27:44Jay, I'm sorry.
00:27:48He implores that the group drive to a remote location and simply hide out.
00:27:52The entity has to walk, so it would be days before it arrives,
00:27:55giving them time to hide and think of more permanent solutions.
00:27:58Walking straight for you, but it is walking.
00:28:03If you drive far enough, you could buy yourself some time to think,
00:28:06decide if you want to give it to someone else.
00:28:08The answer is so simple, yet so effective.

00:28:14The Black Phone
00:28:15A kidnapping drama with a supernatural twist,
00:28:17The Black Phone sees young Finney getting taken by the grabber and held inside his basement.
00:28:22I'm not strong enough.
00:28:23You have to be.
00:28:25You're getting out of here.
00:28:26If you can't do it for you, do it for me.
00:28:28What does it matter?
00:28:29Because I don't want to die for nothing.
00:28:31But in this basement, he accesses the titular Black Phone,
00:28:34some kind of supernatural device that allows him to talk to the grabber's past victims.
00:28:39They all give him various pieces of advice for escaping the room,
00:28:42and Finney utilizes them all in the climactic battle to fantastic success.
00:28:46It's for you.
00:28:56Watching all of the pieces fall into place is incredibly satisfying,
00:29:00as are the various ingenious ways that Finney uses his tools to defeat the grabber.

00:29:06Playing the Baby

00:29:08Tess thinks she has it bad when her Airbnb is double-booked with Keith,
00:29:12but she has no idea that it's about to get so much worse.
00:29:15So there's a bed, and a what? A bucket and a camera?
00:29:18Yeah.
00:29:20I'm just going to-
00:29:20No, no, no, no, no, please don't, please don't.
00:29:22There was like a handprint on the wall.
00:29:23Tess, calm down.
00:29:24She and Keith find a secret room in the basement of the house,
00:29:27and inside this room is a feral creature who kills Keith and takes Tess prisoner.
00:29:32Tess quickly deduces that the creature is a deformed woman who desperately wants a child,
00:29:36so she decides to play along and act as her baby.
00:29:39You can't get upset.
00:29:42If you get upset, she gets upset.
00:29:45She? Who's she?
00:29:46It's deeply uncomfortable watching Tess be embraced and stroked by the creature,
00:29:51but hey, it kept her alive up until this point, so good for her.

00:29:56Not looking at the alien
00:29:58Nope
00:29:58Jordan Peele's Nope has many thematic ambitions,
00:30:01but it's also a terrifying invasion film in the vein of classic Spielberg.
00:30:05Daniel Kaluuya's OJ is a smart man, and he alone figures out the alien.
00:30:09Make a name for yourself.
00:30:13What is that?
00:30:13My bad, man.
00:30:16It's he who realises that it's a living organism, and not a UFO, and having experience with trained
00:30:23animals, he realises that the alien only attacks those who look directly at it.
00:30:27Yeah, he didn't like that, did he?
00:30:29He then helps devise a plan to capture the alien on film,
00:30:32which is ultimately successful thanks to the help of M and Holst.
00:30:36Number 42
00:30:37Sacrificing herself
00:30:39Alien 3
00:30:40The third entry in the Alien franchise is often criticised for being too dark,
00:30:44and that extends to the somewhat dour ending.
00:30:47What guarantee do I have?
00:30:51Once you've taken it out,
00:30:54they'll destroy it.
00:30:55Ripley learns that she's carrying an alien embryo,
00:30:58and that Weyland-Yutani plans on turning it into a biological weapon.
00:31:02So Ripley has a choice, give birth to an alien that will be used for further violence,
00:31:06or sacrifice herself and end the vicious battle for good.
00:31:10It's the chance of a lifetime!
00:31:12You must let me happen! It's a magnificent specimen!
00:31:18She chooses the latter, throwing herself into a vat of molten lead.
00:31:22It's certainly not a happy ending, and we were sad to see Ripley go,
00:31:25but we suppose she made the right and smart choice.
00:31:29Number 41
00:31:30Hiding in the Mall
00:31:31Dawn of the Dead
00:31:32In the zombie apocalypse, it's everyone for themselves,
00:31:35and if that means taking over a mall and stealing all the goods for yourself, then so be it.
00:31:40Wait a minute, they can't get up here.
00:31:41Yeah, and we can't go down there. Let's check it out.
00:31:44This is what the heroes of Dawn of the Dead realise,
00:31:47when they fly upon the empty mall while escaping Philadelphia.
00:31:50Deciding that it would be the perfect place to hide out for a while,
00:31:53they land on the roof, clear the mall of zombies,
00:31:55and make themselves a nice little nest from the store's contents.
00:31:59There's an awful lot of stuff down there that we could use.
00:32:04I know it.
00:32:05It's a big place.
00:32:08But they're pretty spread out down there.
00:32:10Of course, it's only a matter of time before raiders come a-calling,
00:32:13but this plan worked splendidly for months.
00:32:16Who else was living this comfortably while the world fell apart around them?
00:32:19Number 40
00:32:20Blowing up the house
00:32:22Fright Night
00:32:22We all know the major no-no's that come with being a vampire.
00:32:26Can't go out in sunlight,
00:32:27can't eat garlic,
00:32:28can't touch crosses,
00:32:29and can't enter someone's home without an invitation.
00:32:33But what if there is no home?
00:32:36Colin Farrell's Jerry finds a clever workaround to that last one in this fun remake.
00:32:41Look, we're alright as long as we,
00:32:43some of you stay inside,
00:32:44because obviously you can't get in without an invitation.
00:32:48Like a vampire.
00:32:50Yeah, really, like a vampire.
00:32:51After realising his neighbour Charlie is wise to his undead nature,
00:32:55Jerry pays a visit.
00:32:57But his ploy to get invited in is rebuffed.
00:33:00Undeterred, Jerry takes a shovel to their backyard and digs up the gas line.
00:33:04From there, a little exposure and a spark are all it takes to blow up the house from the inside.
00:33:10The occupants are okay, but that's one way to flush out potential victims.
00:33:15You'll need an invitation if there's no house.
00:33:17Number 39. Calling a cab. Scream 2.
00:33:21Do you ever watch a horror movie and think to yourself,
00:33:23there's nothing keeping them there, why don't they just leave?
00:33:26Well, Joel has the common sense to do just that in Scream 2.
00:33:30I should have read your book before I took this job,
00:33:32but I'm reading it now and,
00:33:35I read what happened to your last cameraman.
00:33:37The guy got gutted.
00:33:38After finding out what happened to Gale's camera operator in the first film,
00:33:42Joel is none too pleased to be on campus with a killer running around.
00:33:45So, when Randy gets killed in his news van, he decides he's had enough and skips town.
00:33:51See ya, wouldn't want to be ya.
00:33:53Joel, I need you.
00:33:55No, no, you need to have your head examined.
00:33:58Due to a script leak, Joel's entire character had to be reworked,
00:34:02leaving him without a death or a resolution.
00:34:05It was reportedly actor Dwayne Martin's idea to add in this scene.
00:34:09Wes Craven obliged, but brought back Joel for the ending anyway.
00:34:13I'm, I'm back.
00:34:15You know, I was thinking maybe we could get the scoop like in the old days.
00:34:19Your girl Weathers, at Windsor College.
00:34:23Number 38, Shredding Michael, Halloween Ends
00:34:26While the so-called ending of Halloween received a mixed reception at best,
00:34:31you can't deny that the town's handling of Michael Myers isn't 100% the right call.
00:34:36After we've seen Michael get knocked down and impossibly up again for decades,
00:34:40it seems like Laurie has finally ended the shape.
00:34:43But she too has seen this horror movie before.
00:34:46So, with the help of the authorities, she leads Michael on one last tour of Haddonfield.
00:34:51Time for Haddonfield to start healing.
00:34:53Let's show them all.
00:34:59This is not how it works.
00:35:02It is tonight.
00:35:04With the townsfolk joining the therapeutic funeral procession,
00:35:07it all ends at the salvage yard where they dispose of Michael's body in an industrial shredder.
00:35:12Yeah, no resurrections this time, we think.
00:35:16Number 37, Burying Mia, Evil Dead
00:35:19This movie takes its metaphor of getting clean to the utmost extreme.
00:35:23After Mia is possessed by the evil and two of their friends are killed,
00:35:27David feels resigned to simply set the cabin on fire with his sister in it.
00:35:31But his brotherly nature gets the better of him, and he hatches a plan to save her.
00:35:35With the help of his best friend Eric, David is able to sedate Mia and drag her outside.
00:35:40There, he enacts a live burial.
00:35:42I can't move.
00:35:44I can't breathe.
00:35:46I can't breathe.
00:35:46David!
00:35:48Help me!
00:35:49Help me!
00:35:50Help me!
00:35:51Help me!
00:35:52Help me!
00:35:53You're not hurt.
00:35:54Help me!
00:35:55Mia technically dies, but so too does her possession end.
00:36:00David immediately exhumes her body and resuscitates her, effectively saving Mia's life.
00:36:05Thanks for not leaving me, David.
00:36:07It's just too bad that David ends up burning in that cabin after all.
00:36:12Number 36, Destroying the Cameras, Escape Room
00:36:16What are you doing?
00:36:17Quantum Xeno effect.
00:36:18Atoms won't change if you take continuous measurements,
00:36:20so as long as they're watching us, we can't change our state.
00:36:24The game is designed so they always win.
00:36:26Upon realizing that the shadowy company Minos stays in control as long as they can see the contestants,
00:36:31Zoe takes to smashing all the cameras in the hospital-themed room.
00:36:35While Jason and Ben are able to escape the old-fashioned way,
00:36:38Zoe remains resolute in her plan.
00:36:41Come on, there's a way out!
00:36:42There's a way out!
00:36:44You're suffocating, come on!
00:36:46Go!
00:36:48At first, it seems like Zoe suffocates to death after being exposed to the poisonous gas,
00:36:53but without any eyes on her, she's now able to breathe through an oxygen mask undetected.
00:36:58The clean-up crew thus thinks she's dead, only to get a rude awakening.
00:37:02The oxygen mask.
00:37:04What the hell was she going to do with that?
00:37:05Breathe!
00:37:09It's thanks to Zoe's four-dimensional thinking that she and Ben are able to turn the tables
00:37:13on the Game Master and escape for good.
00:37:17Number 35.
00:37:18Leg Upgrade – Planet Terror
00:37:20Losing a leg to a zombie horde would pretty much spell doom to any other survivor,
00:37:24but not Cherry Darling.
00:37:26Sure, she's a little down on herself at first, but a quick fix from her ex-boyfriend,
00:37:31L-Ray, helps her escape.
00:37:32I have no leg!
00:37:44How you do? What do you think?
00:37:47While the table leg is also a smart decision and helps Cherry take names,
00:37:51it's the next upgrade that earns its spot on our list.
00:37:54When the chips are down and the wooden leg is broken,
00:37:57L-Ray replaces it with an assault rifle with a rocket launcher attachment.
00:38:01I believe it. You could be better. You deserve better. Even better than me. Right now,
00:38:10I need you to become who you're meant to be. Stand.
00:38:17Don't ask us how it works without Cherry's finger on the trigger,
00:38:20but in a Grindhouse movie, all that matters is how undeniably badass she becomes.
00:38:36Number 34. Goading the Demon – The Exorcist
00:38:39Upon possessing the young Regan, and reducing her to a grotesque husk of her former self,
00:38:44the demon Pazuzu effectively saps the hope of all those close to her.
00:38:48Father Keris and Father Merrin do everything they can to exorcise Pazuzu,
00:38:53but this proves futile and results in the latter's death.
00:38:56Incensed as the demon and his inability to save the little girl,
00:39:00Keris flies into a rage. He beats Pazuzu senselessly, challenging it to take him instead.
00:39:20Pazuzu obliges, and Keris, already feeling its influence, hurls himself out a window to
00:39:26present himself from harming Regan. Keris may die, but Regan is safe. Until the sequels, of course.
00:39:33Number 33. Swimming through the Coral – Old
00:39:37The characters in this M. Night Shyamalan thriller are faced with a peculiar predicament.
00:39:41They're trapped on a beach that causes them to age the equivalent of a year every 13 minutes.
00:39:47Trouble is, they can't leave the beach else they lose consciousness, which can be fatal depending on
00:39:52their situation. After everyone else has died of physical or natural causes, siblings Maddox and
00:39:57Trent find themselves middle-aged, having been children just the day before. Thankfully,
00:40:03a secret message makes them believe a nearby coral reef may shield them from blacking out if they swim
00:40:09through it. It's a big gamble, as they risk drowning if they're wrong. But they're not,
00:40:26as they ultimately make it out and expose those responsible.
00:40:30Your aunt will be waiting for you when you land. How's she handling things?
00:40:35How would you feel if a 50-year-old man called and told you he was your 6-year-old nephew?
00:40:40Number 32. Checking into a psychiatric ward – Final Destination 2
00:40:45It doesn't matter how good you are at reading the signs, cheating death in this franchise will only
00:40:49get you so far. And eventually, it will get you. This is what Clear comes to realise after losing
00:40:56fellow Flight 180 survivor Alex between films. Rather than continue to roll the dice, Clear has
00:41:02since committed herself to a psych ward where she spends her days in a padded cell where nothing
00:41:06can actually kill her. You gotta help me. I don't have to do anything. But you beat it. Take a look
00:41:14around. What did I beat, Kimberly? Since this is a story with character growth, however,
00:41:19Clear ultimately decides to check herself out in order to help other survivors. And as you might guess,
00:41:25it finally catches up to her in a hospital explosion.
00:41:36Number 31. Muddying Up – Predator
00:41:46This sci-fi action horror film is full of smart decisions, mostly by the titular creature. But we
00:41:51ultimately have to award the move that decides this game of cat and mouse. After his entire rescue
00:41:56team is picked off one by one by the predator, Dutch is chased to a riverbank to seemingly meet his
00:42:01end. However, the predator fails to see him, and Dutch realises the mud inexplicably covering his body
00:42:08is masking him in his adversary's heat vision. With time to prepare, Dutch becomes a hunter himself,
00:42:14by setting a series of traps, making sure to muddy himself up real good in the process. It's still a
00:42:19struggle, but Dutch's keen insight into his enemy helps him win the day.
00:42:31Number 30. Backing Up – Us
00:42:34Another instance of knowing thy enemy, this one sees a family plagued by their evil doppelgangers.
00:42:39The youngest, Jason, gets time to observe and understand his, Pluto, realising that his double
00:42:45mirrors his actions. After Jason's father and sister dispose of their doppelgangers,
00:42:50the family is ambushed on the road by a flaming car. Upon seeing Pluto, Jason realises it's a trap,
00:43:01and turns the tables. Before Pluto can cause a deadly explosion, Jason starts backing up,
00:43:06knowing Pluto will do the same. While Jason may back up directly into the arms of his mother's
00:43:11doppelganger, Pluto backs directly into the flaming vehicle, catching himself alight and ending his tiny
00:43:17reign of terror. Number 29. Infecting Himself – World War Z
00:43:22The zombies featured in this apocalyptic action horror flick are some of the deadliest put to screen.
00:43:27They're incredibly fast, and infection spreads even faster, turning a human within seconds of being
00:43:32bitten. However, their overzealous predatory nature also turns out to be their downfall.
00:43:38I believe these things have a weakness. And that weakness is weakness. Our weakness.
00:43:44Throughout the film, Brad Pitt's Jerry Lane is able to observe them out in the wild,
00:43:49so to speak, and comes to believe the zombies will deliberately ignore anyone who's terminally ill,
00:43:54wanting only healthy hosts. But even if you're right, I mean,
00:43:57infecting the populace with a lethal illness is not exactly a cure.
00:44:00It's not a cure. It's camouflage.
00:44:04To prove this theory, Jerry fights his way through a research facility and injects himself with a
00:44:09lethal yet curable disease. Not only does it work, but Jerry also gives humanity a fighting chance
00:44:15against the undead scourge. Number 28. Going All Survivalist – You're Next
00:44:21When it comes to smarts, there are few final girls quite like Erin. Unbeknownst to her adversaries,
00:44:27she was raised in a survivalist compound. So when masked assailants arrive to terrorize her
00:44:31boyfriend's family, she doesn't waste a second in setting herself up for success.
00:44:35She sets a slew of traps all over the house, severely injuring the intruders,
00:44:40whether they're just trying to enter or whether they think they have her cornered.
00:44:44Seriously, Erin does so many things right that it'd be easier to list the things she does wrong.
00:44:49Thanks for the help, by the way.
00:44:50Hey, you seem to have a handle on it.
00:44:54She might even be too lethal for her own good, as even after the killers and their
00:44:58conspirators are dead, an arriving police officer gets a wicked surprise.
00:45:03Number 27. Electrocuting the Shark – Jaws 2
00:45:06Shoving a scuba tank into a shark's mouth before blowing it up with a gunshot is ingenious.
00:45:12But Chief Brody might just outdo himself in the sequel.
00:45:23After some local kids find themselves stranded in the ocean with a vicious great wight,
00:45:27Brody again comes to the rescue. He tracks them down to an island that's home to a relay station,
00:45:32but getting them to safety proves exceedingly difficult. He inadvertently uncovers a power
00:45:37cable, but when others' lives hang in the balance, he uses it to his advantage.
00:45:42He whacks the cable repeatedly with an oar,
00:45:44gaining the shark's attention, before getting the beast to bite down on the wiring.
00:45:55The electrocution is so severe that the shark immediately catches fire, absolutely roasted.
00:46:02Number 26. Pipe Bomb Fake Out – Tremors
00:46:05What do you do when you're being hounded by giant sand-dwelling worms? Use pipe bombs, of course.
00:46:11What if we throw one that way, the way that we want to go? Then when it explodes,
00:46:15I mean, if it drives them away, we run like goddamn bastards! Pardon my French.
00:46:22When the group of survivors find themselves pinned down towards the end of the film,
00:46:26they get the idea to not only distract the Graboids with pipe bombs, but to fish with them too.
00:46:32They successfully blow up one Graboid, but another gets wise and spits it back at them. Scattered,
00:46:37they're forced to improvise, before a Graboid pins a few of them down at the edge of a cliff.
00:46:42With just one pipe bomb left, Val tries not to blow it up, but to scare it. After he does so,
00:46:48the thing panics to the point that it shoots right out the cliff side. And Graboids cannot fly.
00:47:03Number 25. Using Audio Feedback – A Quiet Place
00:47:07Every villain has a weakness, even aliens in a fun and original horror movie. A Quiet Place concerns a
00:47:12species of aliens with super-duper hearing. The creatures are able to detect even the slightest bit
00:47:18of noise from miles away, and will devour whoever and whatever made the sound.
00:47:31But this type of extraordinary hearing comes with a cost, and young Reagan utilises it to her
00:47:36advantage. Realising that her cochlear implant emits a high-pitched screech when disrupted,
00:47:41she puts it up to the microphone and amplifies the whine, causing an alien to react in enormous pain.
00:47:46This allows Reagan's mother Evelyn to kill the creature, and with their major weakness exposed,
00:47:51she pumps the shotgun and prepares for battle.
00:47:56Number 24. Threatening Chucky – Child's Play
00:47:59Of course, we as the audience know that Chucky is an evil living doll,
00:48:03but any rational person in that universe would never come to that conclusion.
00:48:08So, when all signs point to her young son Andy being behind the recent killings,
00:48:12Karen doesn't know what to believe.
00:48:14Chucky's alive, really, he is.
00:48:16Andy, Chucky. Chucky is a doll. He's made of plastic and stuffing. Look at him, look at him.
00:48:24Now, does he look like anything else to you?
00:48:25Thanks to her mother's intuition, however, a part of Karen hears Andy when he says Chucky did it.
00:48:31With nothing to lose, Karen ignites the fireplace and tells Chucky that if he doesn't come alive,
00:48:36she'll toss him in. Out of options, Chucky obliges.
00:48:40I said talk to me, damn it, or else I'm gonna throw you in the fire!
00:48:44You stupid!
00:48:44Granted, Karen's got a whole new problem now, but at least she knows who the real enemy is.
00:48:50Number 23. Power Loading – Aliens
00:48:53Ellen Ripley has to be one of the most resourceful heroines in horror.
00:48:57In the same movie that sees her save herself from sabotage by activating the alarm,
00:49:01she also has the perfect answer for the Alien Queen – an exosuit power loader.
00:49:07Get away from her, you b****!
00:49:10While the power loaders are, of course, designed to move heavy objects,
00:49:14with the lack of an appropriate mech suit, it definitely works in a pinch.
00:49:26While the Queen definitely has the upper hand in terms of arsenal,
00:49:30Ripley has the wherewithal to drop it in the airlock.
00:49:33Sure, she takes a tumble with it too, but from there, all it takes is a pulling of a switch
00:49:38and holding on for dear life.
00:49:48Number 22. Using the Mask – Prey
00:49:51Much like Dutch from the original Predator film,
00:49:53Naru too obscures her scent by eating the orange Totsuya flower and dropping her body temperature.
00:50:00But it's what she does afterwards that's really brilliant.
00:50:03After getting the drop on the Predator, she steals its mask and leads it to a trap.
00:50:08Sure, there's still a physical battle to be had, but Naru's picked up a thing or two.
00:50:13For one, she knows that its projectiles use a targeting system attached to its mask.
00:50:17When the Predator's stuck in the mud, it fires directly at Naru.
00:50:21However, Naru's positioned the mask to train its crosshairs right at the thing,
00:50:26and the projectile whips around and takes the Predator out instead.
00:50:39Looks like the Predator becomes the prey.
00:50:41Number 21. Nullifying the Reverse Bear Trap – Saw VI
00:50:46Mark Hoffman is a pretty detestable villain, but even we can't help but be impressed
00:50:50when he beats the seemingly unbeatable Reverse Bear Trap.
00:50:54So when's your test, detective?
00:50:56I don't need one.
00:50:58Oh yeah?
00:50:59Yeah. Because I didn't take my life for granted.
00:51:05Ex-wife to the deceased John Kramer, Jill enacts his last will and testament by dealing with his rogue
00:51:11accomplice. After ambushing him, Jill straps Hoffman to a chair and outfits him with the iconic
00:51:17Reverse Bear Trap. But this time around, there's no key, and no game to be played.
00:51:29Having to think fast, Hoffman uses the device's weight to break his own hand and free himself from
00:51:34the restraint. Then, he shoves his face between two metal bars to open the door's window, preventing
00:51:39the trap from opening completely. It mangles his face, but he also lives to see another movie.
00:51:46Number 20. Face Off – The Silence of the Lambs
00:51:53Good evening, gentlemen.
00:51:55Is there a villain, let alone a horror movie villain, smarter than Hannibal Lecter?
00:51:59Seriously, we could not have concocted such a dastardly escape plan if given an
00:52:04eternity to come up with it. Through his dealings with FBI trainee Clarice Starling,
00:52:08Lecter is able to upgrade his prison digs, only he's more interested in escaping from them.
00:52:25After picking his handcuffs and incapacitating the guards, Lecter does the unthinkable.
00:52:30He feigns his own escape by surgically removing one of their faces and throwing it over his own,
00:52:36tricking first responders into thinking they're saving one of the victims.
00:52:40By the time the authorities find the real body, Lecter's already in an ambulance ensuring his freedom.
00:52:46Number 19. Drawing Blood – The Invisible Man
00:52:49Stabbing yourself in the wrist doesn't seem like a great idea on the surface, but when you've got an
00:52:54invisible foe, you have to think outside the box. Knowing her tormentor wants her alive,
00:52:58Cecilia stabs herself with a pen, faking her own death to catch the invisible man's attention.
00:53:07Lo and behold, he pops up right beside her, close enough for Cecilia to get in some solid jabs at the
00:53:13suit. The attack proves effective enough to get Cecilia out of the mental institution,
00:53:17and all it took was drying a little bit of blood.
00:53:25When your big bad has its own legend, it's best to use that to your advantage. In this
00:53:30return to the found footage legend of the Blair Witch, our heroes made sure to do their homework
00:53:35first. As James and Lisa arrive at the original Blair Witch House, they find themselves at a
00:53:40considerable disadvantage against the vastly overpowering Witch. According to legend however,
00:53:49she can only kill them if they look right at her, so they stare at the corner to stay alive,
00:53:54even using their camcorder to look around without getting killed. Although they're eventually outsmarted
00:53:59back, at least they manage to temporarily outsmart her.
00:54:02Number 17. Turning on the car lights, lights out.
00:54:08When you're dealing with the literal personification of fear of the dark, there's not much you can do
00:54:13when it's nighttime. Diana can only be seen in the dark, and that's where her power comes from.
00:54:19Brett is thwarted and attacked at every turn in his attempts to escape the nightmare creature.
00:54:27Just before he bites the dust however, he uses his phone as a light to ward
00:54:32Diana away, only to be caught again outside. This time however, his car is parked in front of him,
00:54:38and he activates the headlights with his keys. Quick thinking Brett.
00:54:47Number 16. Using a pig, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
00:54:54Good things come in small packages. On her own against the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface,
00:54:59Erin has virtually no way to fight back, so she runs into a nearby slaughterhouse to hide.
00:55:05Tucking herself away in a hall full of lockers, Erin covers her mouth and tries to remain silent,
00:55:10but she also has a four-legged friend along to help.
00:55:17Murderer approaching, Erin desperately holds her breath before Leatherface hears a noise and opens a
00:55:22locker. Distracted by the pig inside, Leatherface doesn't even see Erin until she comes down at him
00:55:28with a meat cleaver, taking his arm and chainsaw off in one clever switcheroo.
00:55:33Number 15. Burning the book as a distraction. Misery.
00:55:36This time we'll need two glasses.
00:55:39There's only so much you can do when you're immobilized, and no one knows you've been kidnapped.
00:55:44Sure, Paul's last attempt at escape isn't as elaborate as his previous ideas, but it works.
00:55:50Trapped and forced to write a sequel to his captor's favorite story, Paul ends up burning it,
00:55:54right after he's finished it, destroying all the answers it had to any unanswered questions.
00:56:00Paul, you can't!
00:56:02Why not? I learned it from you.
00:56:05While Annie desperately tries to remedy this situation, Paul uses the distraction to finally
00:56:10end the nightmare he's endured.
00:56:12Number 14. Setting a Trap. The Final Girls.
00:56:15To be honest, it would be pretty cool if we could be transported into our favorite movies, wouldn't it?
00:56:25Well, unless it's a horror movie and you could actually die.
00:56:34Trapped inside the silver screen, Max and her friends must find a way to defeat their
00:56:38massed terrorizer, Billy. They decide to set a trap for him, making weapons, luring him out and attacking him.
00:56:48While it is a good plan involving flaming arrows and a bucket of gasoline,
00:56:52a lot of friendlies die, but at least we get the kick-ass self-referential slow-mo escape scene.
00:57:03Number 13. Using a Hanger as a Weapon. Halloween.
00:57:06You can't kill the boogeyman.
00:57:12Surviving a horror movie means being able to turn anything into a weapon.
00:57:16Chased down by the menacing Michael Myers, Lori finds herself in the hardest babysitting job
00:57:22of her life. Having to protect herself and the children from the seemingly invincible lunatic.
00:57:27Thinking quickly, she fashions a blade out of a coat hanger and stabs Myers in the eye,
00:57:32injuring him long enough for him to get shot by Dr. Loomis.
00:57:36No. 12. Giving himself the Chainsaw Hand. Evil Dead 2.
00:57:48When you've lost a limb, there's no need to completely lose hope.
00:57:51Forced to chop off his own possessed hand, Ash makes the most out of the situation.
00:57:55After all, he still has to face off against the Deadites, right?
00:57:58When a demonic force is physically and psychologically destroying you, you're gonna have to be a little
00:58:03unhinged yourself to fight back. And sometimes that means sticking the stump of your own hand into
00:58:08a freaking chainsaw. Let's hope he doesn't get an itch.
00:58:12It's rare to call anyone smart for stabbing themselves in the neck, but it might just
00:58:26save your life in a pinch. Hunting the jigsaw killer, FBI agent Strom stops one killer, only to
00:58:32be caught by another. Finding himself in his own disturbing trap in the process. Waking up in one of the
00:58:37few unbeatable traps of the series, Strom is seemingly doomed, as the box encasing his head
00:58:44quickly fills with water. Already beating one jigsaw killer, Strom uses the pen in his pocket to perform
00:58:50a tracheotomy on himself, allowing him to breathe until he's saved. Talk about thinking outside the box.
00:58:57Number 10. Setting Fireworks. A Quiet Place.
00:59:00When the killer you're avoiding is hypersensitive to noise, the last thing you want to be doing is
00:59:05giving birth. After stepping on a nail on her way to the basement, Evelyn's presence is exposed
00:59:10to the nearby creatures. Thankfully, her husband Lee has a solution prepared for just this occasion.
00:59:18With his son Marcus at the ready, fireworks are ignited to create an auditory diversion,
00:59:22masking Evelyn's cries as she gives birth to their new son. While their troubles were far from over,
00:59:28this clever solution saved almost the entire family, and made for possibly the most thrilling
00:59:32moment of the entire movie. Number 9. The Escape Plan. 10 Cloverfield Lane.
00:59:41Escaping a madman takes a lot more preparation than a spur of the moment idea. Realizing Howard
00:59:46will almost definitely kill her, Michelle has to find a way out of this crazy bunker. After discovering
00:59:52a second exit hatch while fixing their ventilator, Michelle devises a plan to get out. She gets the
00:59:57upper hand on Howard long enough to crawl through the vents and climb to the hatch. Using compressed
01:00:02air to freeze and shatter the lock, Michelle dons her makeshift hazmat suit and rises to the surface
01:00:08to see the outside world once again.
01:00:14Number 8. Putting on the Sweater. Friday the 13th Part 2.
01:00:17You've done your job well and mommy is pleased. Norman Bates, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees,
01:00:23all the best horror movie villains have mommy issues. However, there are ways to use that to your
01:00:28advantage to beat the bad guy. Ginny is being chased around Camp Crystal Lake by Jason, as per Uge, when
01:00:34she finds herself an altar dedicated to his dead mother. Ginny ingeniously decides to psychologically
01:00:40mess with the mask wearing killer by convincing him that she is Mrs. Voorhees by donning her sweater,
01:00:46persuading him to let his guard down for what she hopes is enough time for her to administer
01:00:51a killing blow. Unfortunately, he realizes it's just a ruse, but he meets his end shortly thereafter
01:01:00anyway. Or does he? Number 7. Shoot the bad guy in the head to make sure. Scream 2.
01:01:08The gang in the Scream series knows how to survive a horror movie, even using internet calls as far back
01:01:13as the 90s to save themselves. However, one thing the group was particularly ignorant of the first
01:01:21time around was making sure the killers were even dead. But in the sequel, Sidney Prescott does not
01:01:27mess around. Consider it done. After seemingly killing Mickey and Mrs. Loomis, Sidney and Cotton take a breath
01:01:37before Mickey comes back, getting immediately shot by Sidney and Gail. Learning her lesson,
01:01:42Sidney shoots Loomis in the head just to be safe. Number 6. Turning household objects on a killer.
01:01:49Hush. When she's terrorized in her home by a crossbow-wielding invader, Maddie uses everything
01:01:54she can grab to defend herself. The killer assumes that because she's deaf and unable to speak,
01:01:59she's helpless. But that's far from the case as he soon learns. In the final scuffle, she sprays
01:02:16insecticide in his face and uses a smoke alarm to rob him of his sight and hearing. She lands the final
01:02:22blow with a corkscrew. As a writer, Maddie is always reworking scenarios in her head. Luckily for her,
01:02:29she found the one where the hero lives in the end. Number 5. Setting up booby traps and waking up.
01:02:35A nightmare on Elm Street. Home field advantages can work two ways. With her friends getting murdered
01:02:40around her, Nancy decides she has to take the fight against Freddy Krueger into her own hands. Realizing
01:02:46she can bring him out of her dream, Nancy booby traps her house and asks Dawn to help her once
01:02:52she gets Freddy on her turf. Managing to pull him out, Nancy gets Freddy into the real world and even
01:02:58lures him into her traps long enough to set him on fire. Not so easily defeated however, Krueger of course returns.
01:03:09Number 4. Pushing the system purge button. The cabin in the woods.
01:03:16This movie contains almost every horror movie cliche in the book and it's damn
01:03:21entertaining for that exact reason. After Dana and Marty find themselves pinned down by a dozen
01:03:27armed and dangerous security forces. There's only one thing left to do. Push the system purge button.
01:03:32Let's get this party started. Sure in retrospect it doesn't seem like a great alternative but it
01:03:39appears to work out okay for them. The button releases all the captive monsters and boy did they
01:03:45have a great time tearing everyone to pieces. Giving Dana and Marty time to escape.
01:03:51It begs the question though, why does this button even exist in the first place?
01:03:55Number 3. Scientific method. The Thing.
01:03:58Now I'll show you what I already know.
01:04:00The researchers in this claustrophobic horror classic are faced with quite the conundrum.
01:04:04How do you find a monster that can look like your friends? Using their brains however, the surviving
01:04:09members of the arctic facility go about revealing the alien in the most rudimentary way possible.
01:04:15A simple blood test. This is pure nonsense. Doesn't prove a thing. Knowing the creature's blood
01:04:21will try to protect itself. R.J. McCready takes a sample of everyone's blood and heats it
01:04:26with a copper wire. We'll do you last. As he dips the wire in Palmer's blood, the sample jumps from
01:04:35the dish and flees. Revealing the alien among them. Number 2. Picking cotton out of the chair.
01:04:41Get Out. This is crazy. Get Out's critical reception was well deserved. The film delves into issues of
01:04:48racism as well as themes typical to the horror genre. While featuring a main character that is far
01:04:53from clueless in almost every regard. Right from the get-go, Chris has a strange feeling about the
01:04:58family he's staying with. When your possible future mother-in-law is a hypnotist who wants to
01:05:03make you docile enough for a brain transplant, there's only one thing you can do. Make sure you
01:05:08don't listen to her. Chris literally picks cotton to keep himself alive by using his chair stuffing to
01:05:14block his ears. And then breaks free to take his revenge. Ingenious. Before we continue, be sure to

01:05:30into your settings and switch on notifications. Number 1. Danny stopping his snow footprint trail.
01:05:38The Shining. Never doubt the resourcefulness of a kid at death's door. Running for his life from
01:05:46his deranged and homicidal father, Danny heads for the hedge maze at the snowed-in and very haunted
01:05:52Overlook Hotel. Knowing he can't outrun his father forever, Danny realizes he has to throw his dad off
01:05:58the scent and ditches running for a better plan. Backtracking through his own steps and hiding,
01:06:03his father reaches the end of his trail and proceeds to search aimlessly for him in the giant maze.
01:06:09He can't get away! Following his own prince out of the maze,
01:06:13Danny runs into his mother's arms, leaving Dad to suffer in the cold.
