01:11Tonight a convicted gang leader is set to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
01:15The crimes go back to 2015.
01:17Federal prosecutors say 41-year-old Antonio Simmons led the 9-trade Gangsters Bloods Gang
01:23and today we learned he will serve more than three life terms.
01:27Then at your side, Gina Arevalo joins us in the newsroom and, Gina, prosecutors say justice
01:32has been served.
01:33Yeah, Tom and Anita, U.S. attorneys thanked police for their help with the case that spanned
01:37nearly all of the seven cities.
01:39Simmons was the last in the group of six men to be sentenced for their roles in the murders
01:44of five people along with several other crimes.
01:46Three consecutive life terms plus an additional 40 years.
01:51That's the sentence handed down to Antonio Simmons, the ringleader of the 9-trade Gangsters.
01:57Federal prosecutors say Simmons, also known as Murdoch, and five other gang members from
02:01Portsmouth and Norfolk murdered two men and three women, most of whom had no affiliation
02:07with that gang or any other.
02:09One of the victims was a mother killed randomly while walking home from her shift at work.
02:13The gang's crime spree also included attempted murders and multiple drug and gun offenses.
02:18According to court documents, two people were killed during robberies that Simmons ordered
02:22his members to commit.
02:24Court documents even say Simmons ordered the killings of rival high-ranking gay members who
02:28were also part of the 9-trade Gangsters.
02:31A woman who opened the door at a rival member's house was shot six times when she said the man
02:36they were looking for wasn't home.
02:39While the men fled the shooting, they shot at witnesses, looking out of their windows.
02:43Thankfully, that woman survived.
02:45The U.S. Attorney's Office says this case sends a clear message to gang members.
02:49You will be caught and you will be prosecuted.
02:54Altogether, this group of gang members led by Antonio Simmons was given nine life sentences
02:58and 203 years in prison.
