Police Interceptors S24E01 (Sep 29 2025)
Transcript
00:00This is Police Interceptors.
00:04Police Interceptors are all I for.
00:06I'm going to tell my kids about this.
00:08And you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:11Speed one, two, zero.
00:14Ace Pursuit drivers.
00:16Contact, contact, contact.
00:18With air support.
00:19Got two out, stand by.
00:21I'm out.
00:22And a crack dog unit.
00:24If you leave, you will get hit.
00:26They bring down the bad guys.
00:30I believe you're one in the moment.
00:32Keep the streets safe.
00:35He won't put your arms behind him.
00:37Get on the floor.
00:39And battle 24-7.
00:41Get down on the floor.
00:43In the war on crime.
00:45Crash, crash.
00:47On the floor now.
00:48This is what it is, isn't it?
00:49We find them, we lock them up.
00:53Coming up.
00:54The interceptors battle road tax rage.
00:57Get on the floor.
01:00Get back!
01:01Get back!
01:02Get back!
01:03This is going to fail to stop.
01:05Service station thieves are caught in the act.
01:08There's parcels falling out of the back of the vehicle.
01:11And...
01:12There it is.
01:13The mystery of the vanishing van driver.
01:16He's parked it very interestingly.
01:19There were over 40,000 assaults on police officers in England and Wales last year.
01:40Situations the interceptors face can change in a heartbeat.
01:47Dan and co-pilot Catalin from the neighbourhood policing team are on their way to a routine check on a motor.
01:53I received a call a few days ago that there's an untaxed vehicle parked on the road.
02:00If the vehicle's here that's untaxed, that'll be seized.
02:04Because I believe the tax hasn't been paid on it for over a year now.
02:10That's the vehicle there.
02:12One untaxed Nissan Navara exactly where they expect it to be.
02:22To try to find the owner, Catalin does some digging on the number plate.
02:27There's no insurance on it.
02:29MOT will aspire in 2024.
02:33And it has no tax since 2022.
02:35There's no insurance on it either?
02:36No.
02:39I mean, to be fair mate, it might have just been dumped here or something.
02:41Yeah.
02:42A solid theory.
02:44Until a woman says she's spoken to the owner of the pickup truck.
02:48Can he come here without, because I don't want to take his car away.
02:51Because he has no, no, no tax on it.
02:54He has traders.
02:56Yeah, you can't have traders mate on, on, you need to have a number on it
03:00for me to check that he's paying tax.
03:03Which I don't, I can't verify, he's paying tax.
03:06Yeah.
03:07Yeah.
03:08It's a clear cut job.
03:09Without any proof of tax or traders insurance, the pickup truck can be seized.
03:15Hello, can I arrange, please, a vehicle recovery, no tax.
03:20However, the news isn't going down well with the residents.
03:25Standing in here like you're the man.
03:26No.
03:27You're a stick mate.
03:28Absolutely smoky with your uniform, I promise you I would.
03:32Or the untaxed motor's owner, who's just rolling up.
03:35Okay.
03:37You're taking what?
03:38You're taking what?
03:39You won't take nothing mate.
03:40Okay.
03:41You won't take nothing mate, I'm a trader.
03:42Okay.
03:43I promise you you won't take nothing mate.
03:45Is that your car, is it?
03:46There's nothing you can do mate.
03:47It doesn't look like a calm chat is on the cards.
03:49And the interceptors are outnumbered.
03:50Can we have another wind unit here, please?
03:52What do you mean can you have another unit?
03:53Get away from my vehicles mate.
03:55I am a trader.
03:56There's nothing you can do.
03:57Yeah.
03:58Show me that.
03:59Mate, stay back.
04:00Stay back.
04:01Don't touch me brother mate.
04:02Yeah.
04:03I promise you.
04:04Is this your vehicle?
04:05Listen, don't think you're a hero because you're not.
04:06Listen to me, is this your vehicle?
04:07I am sick of you because you're tramps mate.
04:09That's all you are.
04:10Okay.
04:11Want to come around and just try to think you can just take anything you want.
04:12Okay.
04:13You won't mate.
04:14It's been untaxed.
04:15It's been untaxed over a year.
04:16I've just bought it.
04:17I'm a trader.
04:18I get to drive with no tax for two weeks if I really want to.
04:20No.
04:21There you go.
04:22Mate, you don't know.
04:23I'm a trader.
04:24Okay.
04:25Show me that trader.
04:26Yes.
04:27I'll show you my trader's policy now.
04:28Get me this key for this thing now.
04:30Just calm down, buddy.
04:31Calm down.
04:32Move.
04:33Get out of my way.
04:34No.
04:35I'm not going to move.
04:36There's nothing you can do.
04:37There's nothing you can do.
04:38I can do.
04:39You're not getting in there.
04:40Take this stupid thing off mate and I guarantee you couldn't do one thing.
04:41Okay.
04:42I promise you you couldn't.
04:44Before long, the irate owner's name calling.
04:47Yeah, sure.
04:48I'm going to show you my policy.
04:49Don't you think you moron.
04:51Escalates.
04:52You think you're a hero because you've got this stupid thing on, brother.
04:55Take this off.
04:56I'll break your head.
04:57That's about that.
04:58We don't think we're heroes.
04:59You couldn't, mate.
05:00I promise you.
05:01We're just doing our job.
05:02Mine.
05:03Mine.
05:04See?
05:05Mine.
05:06Now move.
05:07It's a standoff.
05:08Mate, I'm telling you, you're not getting into that.
05:09I'm telling you.
05:10Catalin tries again to reason with the owner.
05:11Show me that you're a trader.
05:13Okay.
05:14And you can prove to me that you can drive this without a tax.
05:17Yeah, okay.
05:18And I'm not taking it.
05:19I'll show you what.
05:20Yeah.
05:21There you go.
05:22That's all we want to see.
05:23Yeah.
05:24Pass your phone.
05:25The owner phones his dad and asks him to bring proof of a trader's policy.
05:29Is he, can he get the policy?
05:31Yeah.
05:32Okay.
05:33Well, if he can get the policy, we'll just wait.
05:35But the pause in hostility doesn't last long.
05:38Where are you from?
05:39My detail is this.
05:40This.
05:41Do not like brassism.
05:42I guarantee if you turn back into your own country in that uniform, they'd probably be
05:45edger.
05:46Okay.
05:47That's probably what they would do to you.
05:48A simple seizure of an untaxed motor is taking a sinister turn.
05:51If you want to.
05:52Dad, please, can you just get this paperwork?
05:54This fat knob's pissing me off.
05:56Fortunately, the cavalry are arriving.
05:59Yeah?
06:00Let me find out what's going on.
06:01You're saying chill, but it's, don't do that.
06:04Come on, don't do that.
06:05Along with a recovery truck ready to lift the untaxed Navara.
06:09Literally two minutes and then I'll let you know.
06:12However, they are closely followed by another truck driver.
06:17Who's seen red?
06:22What do you want?
06:27What's the need for that?
06:28What?
06:29What's the need for that?
06:30Blocking the road.
06:31I know, because we're dealing with an incident here.
06:33So am I.
06:35Idiot.
06:40The raging driver is pushing ahead.
06:45Forcing recovery further down the road.
06:48What are you looking at?
06:51Right, you chill out.
06:52Because otherwise you'll get yourself locked up for public order.
06:54Move.
06:55You move.
06:56And stop swearing.
06:57Go on, go.
07:00Oh my days.
07:03You're lucky.
07:04You need to go somewhere.
07:05Go.
07:06I can't go before I did anything.
07:07Sounds familiar, because he's the untaxed motor owner's father.
07:12And he's about to kick off.
07:15Stop!
07:16Stop!
07:17Stop!
07:18Stop!
07:19In Northampton, Dan and Catalin's simple inquiry into an untaxed Nissan Navara is going from nought to a hundred.
07:39I'm going to show you my policy. Don't you think you moron?
07:43First, the owner turned up making threats.
07:45Take this off, I'll break your head.
07:49And now his dad has arrived.
07:54And he is even more volatile.
07:58Can you leave the car? Can you get out of the way, please?
08:00Yeah, no, don't even get my car.
08:03Let's move out of the way.
08:05Get out of the way.
08:10Buddy, can you get out of the way for us, please?
08:12Get out of the way. You don't want to get yourself hurt.
08:15An officer tries to defuse the situation.
08:17Get up!
08:19But the families hit boiling point.
08:22Dad!
08:24Dad, leave it!
08:25Dad, leave it!
08:26The whole team rush to assist and Catalin is forced to pull the parva spray.
08:34Get on the floor.
08:35Even with a full face of parva dad is still resisting
08:42More people are gathering
08:53And the aggressive son isn't backing down
09:05The Sarge draws his taser
09:14The prospect of 50,000 volts does the job
09:18Whilst getting the dad in cuffs
09:22The son flees in his golf
09:28You made off, you made off
09:31Driven off, driven off
09:34During the altercation, someone's also driven off in the untaxed Navara
09:43The simple seizure of an untaxed motor has escalated to cops
10:22The team wastes no time in getting back on the road to find the son on the run
10:31Someone who's really angry but if you talk to them in the right way
10:34Some people respond better to that
10:35You know, that works most of the time luckily
10:38But it's the people who can't de-escalate
10:40And we may need to resort to using PPE like Catalan did today with the parva spray
10:46Sometimes we have to use force which is portion to be able to get a situation under control
10:51To make sure that we don't get injured and members of the public don't get injured either
10:58Within the hour there's some search success
11:01They found the golf
11:05Another unit finds the son's white golf unattended and they seize it
11:10If he wants to get his car back, he's going to need to present himself to get that
11:14So at some point his luck is going to run out unfortunately
11:19And he'll have to answer what he thought he's done
11:26Interceptors also picked up the untaxed Navara that afternoon
11:33The owner's look ran out when he was arrested the following day
11:36He pleaded not guilty to assaulting and obstructing the police
11:39But guilty to using threatening words and behaviour
11:42He was ordered to pay £141 in fines
11:47After some time in the cells, no further action was taken against the father for public order
12:04Some of the country's main arterial routes such as the M1 and the A14 run through Northamptonshire
12:10And these roads are often hit hard by travelling crime gangs committing curtain side thefts from lorries
12:19What you'll tend to get is a spotter vehicle which will go into the service areas
12:24Cut the curtain fabric of the lorries
12:26And then if it's worth taking they will normally call forward a carrier vehicle
12:32And the team will then go about emptying the contacts in the back of the curtain side into their vehicle
12:40It can be quite a difficult crime to detect because a lot of times the lorry drivers are asleep so don't hear it
12:47It's a big problem but I think we do quite a good job at trying to prevent it and also pursue it as well
12:57To crack down on the country's £66 million cargo crime problem there's a national police operation
13:07Up barrack
13:11Tonight dog handler Lucy and canine crime fighter Bryn are on barrack duty
13:17Looking to catch the thieves red-handed
13:19We'll just be checking service stations
13:25Lorry lay-bys, lorry parks
13:29Anywhere really where suspects could park up and try and steal loads from the back of HGVs
13:37It's just a little bit of luck and a little bit of looking in the right place
13:42The right place tonight is a service station off the A14
13:52Lucy spots a van parked up next to a lorry
13:58And the driver isn't sticking around
14:03A vehicle check please
14:06Loaded with loot, tail lift still down
14:09I think we've just come across a barrack in progress
14:14This is going to fail to stop
14:16Lucy has caught Curtainside thieves in the act
14:20We're now A605 North
14:23It is failing to stop
14:25It's a hasty getaway with a van load of stolen goods
14:29If the driver can keep hold of them
14:31There's parcels falling out of the back of the vehicle
14:41We're now into Thrapston
14:44I think there were some other people in the hedge line
14:47There was torches flashing in the hedge line
14:49It's likely the crime gang had to spot a car as well as this van
14:53Unluckily for the van driver, it's him Lucy got a glimpse of
14:58From what I could see of the driver
15:02It was a fairly well built male wearing like a light coloured grey jumper
15:07Still into Thrapston village, speed 27 low risk
15:11As pursuits go, it's strangely slow and steady
15:15He was panicking isn't he? He didn't know what to do
15:18Perhaps the thieves don't want to risk losing any more loot
15:21Left, left, speed 2-3
15:27Or perhaps they're looking for somewhere to bail out
15:34As the passenger side opens, one is out and running
15:40It's touch and go
15:43He's still going isn't he?
15:45I've had one bail out on Thrap, stand by
15:48But the van comes to a stop
15:52Running now would not be a wise move
15:55Stay there
15:59There's another suspect also in the passenger seat
16:02I've got one detained, one's run off
16:06I need officers to me
16:08Put your handbrake on mate, put the handbrake on
16:10Put the handbrake on
16:12Right, we'll put it in gear then
16:14No it's not, it's rolling mate
16:17Too late
16:19It's rolled backwards into my car
16:22But a prank to the Skoda is a small price to pay for bagging a suspected thief
16:27This male is compliant, he was the driver for certain
16:31Although he's now sitting in the passenger seat
16:34Bryn's bark may have stopped one suspect from running
16:38Just so we've covered the legal side
16:40At the minute you're under arrest for failing to stop, alright?
16:43But with another unit on scene to deal with the driver
16:47Bryn and Lucy turn their attention to looking for his accomplice
16:51Hold on a minute
16:52Hold on a minute
16:59Dream Team Lucy and five year old German Shepherd Bryn
17:02Once tracked three armed robbers who'd taken a car at gunpoint
17:06Yes, yes, I've got like an office block to my left
17:09We're tracking up towards the car park
17:12And this evening Bryn's finely tuned sense of smell
17:15Once ever where I am, the dog's indicating over the fence
17:19To some back gardens
17:20Is catching a whiff of curtain sight thief
17:24He's definitely gone this way but it's a spiked fence
17:29Finding a way into the garden on the other side
17:32Where is he then?
17:34Bryn is drawn to a shed, which has been left wide open
17:42They've been in there, haven't they?
17:44Hands locked
17:45I think he's gone back because he was all in that garden
17:48It looks like the thief could be on the move
17:57Taking a left down another alleyway
17:59Tracking quite strongly now
18:03The canine cop has a solid lead
18:05So we're tracking down the hill
18:06Until all of a sudden, the track goes cold
18:08Until all of a sudden, the track goes cold
18:17This is a pick-up point
18:19100%
18:21Tried him in all four directions and he's just nothing
18:24He came flying down here as well
18:25Despite Bryn's best efforts, Lucy suspects the runner has been picked up by other gang members in the spotter car
18:33He's worked his nuts off, bless him, he's done really well
18:36Good lad
18:38Good boy
18:40Yes he is
18:42He's a good lad
18:44What's the best way back from here?
18:45Back at the scene, cops have discovered the getaway van is a stolen vehicle on false plates
18:51And the bloke Lucy arrested is a disqualified driver
18:55He clearly was pretending he wasn't the driver
18:58Because he was sat in the passenger seat when we got round to him
19:00Which is an age-old trick
19:03But unfortunately for him, I saw him in the driver's seat
19:06So, unlucky
19:09To come across a crime in progress like that is quite rare
19:13And to obviously get the driver of the stolen vehicle arrested is a brilliant result
19:19Really, really pleased
19:21Good boy
19:22Good boy
19:23Come on then, in
19:25Good lad
19:29Next stop, the services to continue the investigation
19:36Not before a little carriageway clear-up
19:38This is one of the boxes that came out of that van
19:44Can't tell what it is, but we'll take it back to the lorry
19:51Can have that back
19:53At the service station, it looks like more boxes were destined to be stolen
19:57Had Lucy not intercepted
19:58So, this will be where they've cut the side to have a look at what's inside
20:04And then they've evidently tried to pull some of the bits out of here to see what the property is
20:12It looks like
20:16It's electronic equipment of some description
20:18Soundbar, subwoofers, it's going to be relatively expensive electronic equipment, I would say
20:26And given that that Luton van was half full of these boxes
20:31I would say we've probably prevented quite a high-value theft
20:35From taking place
20:37So, yeah, good
20:39High-value indeed, Lucy recovered around £3,500 worth of stolen goods
20:49The man in the van is awaiting trial for stealing from the lorry
20:53Driving whilst banned and without insurance
20:58No legal action was taken against him in relation to the damage to Lucy's car or the nicked van
21:09Coming up
21:11I've got a town centre C3
21:13I see a vehicle swerving
21:15The interceptors go looking for a drink driving suspect
21:19What was that all about?
21:21I was moving out of the way traffic
21:23And the van crash suspect goes looking for the interceptors
21:27Go on, bud, this is my vehicle
21:29I just had to get my insurance details from my friend's house
21:31Oh, interesting
21:38Northamptonshire is home to nearly three-quarters of a million people
21:49Many will take to the roads during rush hour and could face increased dangers
21:54The main issues of driving during rush hour is just the volume of traffic
22:01And the fact that people tend to be quite impatient
22:05If a car loses control
22:08Where there's a lot of pedestrians around
22:11For instance, like children walking home from school
22:13It can be catastrophic really for them
22:15Because cars are effectively
22:20One-ton killing machines
22:21It's the Friday morning rush hour
22:36And interceptor Callum Donoghue is blue lighting through traffic to the scene of a crash
22:42A van has apparently collided with a pole
22:45And the drivers fled from the scene
22:47We're going to really need to try and identify where the drivers got
22:50And work out the reason why they fled from the scene
22:53Callum has an early prediction on the reason for the drivers disappearing act
23:00I would normally be suspecting drink or drugs
23:03So, see what we can find when we get there
23:05At 8.15 in the morning, Northampton streets are busy with commuters and families on the school run
23:14There it is
23:18This crash and dash has caused serious damage
23:21But it could have been lethal
23:22Very proper 6-1
23:30They're passing the wedge of this van
23:33After ploughing into a pedestrian crossing
23:37The abandoned van is wedged on the top of the railings
23:40And blocking one lane of traffic
23:41A lady out there said he's done a red light
23:50Yeah
23:51Laurie's flipped him
23:52Then he's made off
23:53Oh, interesting
23:54Where's the lady?
23:56Whilst the fire crew fight any further danger by disconnecting the wrecked van's battery
24:01Callum speaks to the eyewitness
24:03So it happened, because I came out of Brad's office, it happened
24:05Yeah
24:06As I rang you lot, he'd done a runner, so
24:09What was his description?
24:11About 5'8", very skinny
24:14Crew cut hair
24:16Beige coloured shorts, white train, blue top
24:19He's stupid
24:21Why are you so eager to get across a red light for?
24:25It's red
24:27There's emptying traffic at this time of the morning
24:29It's a stupid move
24:30Thankfully, no one seems to have been injured
24:35It's pretty stable, it's not going to...
24:37Yeah
24:38So, if you're happy, they'll leave you too
24:39Absolutely mate, that's fine
24:41Now the scene is safe
24:43Callum can focus on solving the mystery of the vanishing van driver
24:47We'll wait for the vehicle to get recovered
24:50And then we'll go round to the address where it's registered to
24:53And see if we can speak to the driver or the owner
24:55See if he's using drugs or any alcohol
24:58See what his explanation is for this
25:02Because he's parked it very interestingly
25:05Even more interestingly, the runaway driver has left their motor unlocked and full of expensive power tools
25:13There'll be a bigger reason behind it
25:15And it's annoying me because I'm yet to find out why
25:17But leave it with us, we'll get an answer by the end of the day
25:20An answer might present itself sooner than Callum is expecting
25:26You alright mate? This is my vehicle, I just had to go and get my insurance details from my friend's house
25:30Oh, interesting
25:32The van driver has come back
25:33What happened?
25:34Basically the light's changed and the lorry come round here
25:36Yeah
25:37And I've had to swear to Mr. Lorry
25:39Basically so I didn't hit anything
25:41I thought I hit the central reservation
25:43Oh, how fast were you going?
25:45Only 30
25:47What, 30 from there?
25:49That takes a bit of force doesn't it?
25:51That takes a bit of force to get it up there
25:53Oh, I was doing 30 mate
25:55Have you got your licence on you?
25:56Yes, sir
25:59Callum is an advanced driver
26:01Who is trained to handle anything from a high performance pursuit car
26:05To a riot van or a 4x4 response car
26:08If you've been involved in a collision, I'll have to put you on a breath test and a drugs test as well
26:13Just to make sure that's all fine
26:15Is this van crash just a simple accident?
26:18Or are Callum's suspicions about drink or drugs correct?
26:22Just make a seal around it with your lips and one long continuous blow until I tell you to stop
26:26Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, stop
26:30That's the time at the same time as you
26:32Zero
26:34One test passed, one to go
26:36So, not as I first assumed
26:39We'll still wait on the results of the drug wipe
26:42He was very nervous
26:44But he came back
26:46And I'd argue, if there was something more to hide, he probably wouldn't have come back
26:50Another unit are en route with the drug wipe kit
26:53In the meantime, Callum and a recovery worker are coming up with a plan to get the van off the rush hour roads
27:01Let this lot go through
27:03Do you need this one closed as well?
27:05No, leave that one open
27:06Or just this bit?
27:07Yeah
27:08He's going to go over there and lift it onto the back of his truck
27:11So we've got to close the whole road which will be interesting because everyone wants to try and squeeze past this morning
27:16Already all I've got to do is set the crane up, put the crane above it, pick it and we're away
27:21Cool
27:22At the next red light
27:24The recovery truck moves in
27:26Callum closes the second lane
27:29You can't get that way because the van in the way can't get that way because the truck will be in the way
27:33Cheers mate
27:35And operation van lift begins
27:40Weighing in at over a tonne
27:42The van is wrenched from the railings
27:51I bet he's great at the grabber machines in the arcade
27:58Job done
28:00With a clearer view, Callum notices a problem with one of the tyres
28:04There's one here
28:06They've got enough tread on them, haven't they?
28:08That's got cords showing
28:09Oh shit!
28:11Bald tyres can increase stopping distances
28:14But so can drug driving
28:21Having got the rush hour traffic moving again, another officer has arrived with a drug wipe test
28:26Cheeks, just get some saliva on the end of the tunnel for me
28:28Do you take drugs at all?
28:29No
28:30And then just three from here
28:32Okay?
28:33Lovely
28:34So it takes eight minutes to fully work
28:36Alright, it's going to give us a reading of
28:38Cannabis or cocaine
28:40Or hopefully nothing
28:42Now we play the waiting game
28:44One in twenty fatalities on our roads are caused by drug drivers
28:49Within minutes it looks like Callum's suspicions could be correct
28:54You see on the bottom one?
28:56Yeah
28:57There's a second line under there
28:58Right, okay
28:59So that shows that it's testing positive for cocaine
29:02Shouldn't be
29:03Well, that's what the machine says
29:05So at this moment in time you're under arrest
29:06Okay, I'm suspicious of drug drive
29:08You don't have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you don't mention one question
29:11Something you should let around in court
29:12Anything you do say may be given evidence
29:14That's enough
29:16Having failed the roadside drug test
29:18The van driver is taken to custody
29:20To give a blood sample for forensic testing
29:22Obviously it's a Friday morning
29:24There's lots of pedestrian traffic about as we saw
29:26Kids going to school etc.
29:28It was on quite a main road in Northampton
29:31And for him to make that sort of manoeuvre
29:34To be wedged into the fence
29:36He was doing a bit of speed
29:38Just lucky no one was stood in the middle of the crossing when that collision did happen
29:41Blood test results confirmed the van driver was over the limit for cocaine
29:49He pleaded guilty to drug driving and was banned from the roads for 17 months
30:02When it comes to collisions involving drink drivers
30:05The number of fatalities are at their highest level for more than a decade
30:08Setting his sights on taking those over the limit off the road is Harrison Beverley
30:15So we're on a Sunday night shift
30:18We've got the England match on tonight
30:20The first match of the Euros against Serbia
30:22So I expect it could be a bit busier than normal for a Sunday night
30:26Potentially on the road
30:28People that have been watching the match
30:30A few drinks potentially
30:32So we'll keep an eye out for that
30:35Football fan Harrison supports Middlesbrough FC
30:38As the night draws in
30:39He's pleased to learn that England have scored a win
30:44However
30:46Lord I'm just off at Junction 10 now
30:48Are you still Barton Road out of town?
30:50Yes mate
30:52Interceptor's V's suspected drink driver is about to begin
30:56We've got a town centre C3
30:59I see a vehicle swerving
31:01Nearly hit another vehicle I think
31:02So I'm going to give him a leg up with getting the vehicle stopped
31:08Fellow interceptor Lloyd is already behind the erratic driver
31:12So Harrison is plotting up
31:15Ready to join us back up
31:17Yeah it's got four or five occupants I think he said
31:19So it's erm...
31:21We want to try and get stopped and obviously I've just been seen driving up bad on camera
31:24Just double checking out of a drink or anything
31:26You know it's the England match tonight
31:28You'd hope that people are sensible but
31:30Should be coming past us in a second
31:31What's new now
31:38Harrison falls in directly behind the suspect
31:44Happy with compliance stop at Junction 10 Lloyd you reckon?
31:48Yeah stop
31:52Four passengers in a car with a suspected drink driver could be a recipe for disaster
31:57See if it stopped here it's a bit of a safe bit of a road for us
32:02Without delay they're lighting him up
32:13Either he's failing to stop or something might be slowing the driver's reactions
32:17It's been an abuse from the phone to stop
32:20We've marked the road to catch him back into the tower
32:23So we've seen the ground up
32:25Just as Lloyd calls it in the suspect comes to a stop
32:30Stand by, stop stop
32:33Get out of the car
32:34Come on then
32:38What was that all about?
32:40I was moving out of the way of traffic
32:41You weren't? Give me time
32:42I was? No look you can't come out of the road now
32:44Vehicle stop, no damage
32:46You've got the keys, it's five off at the minute
32:49Lloyd gets straight to the point
32:51The reason we're stopping you mate is
32:53We might be driving quite bad in the town centre
32:56I don't suspect you're not
32:58Going for charge of car
32:59Any alcohol you can see here?
33:01I've had a couple of bikes while we're watching the roads
33:03That was it?
33:04When was your last drink?
33:06It's 25 past midnight now
33:09Good hour ago
33:10Are you happy to try to stress me off the roadside?
33:11I might be blowing
33:13Yeah
33:15Refusing the breathalyser is an offence in itself
33:18If this footy fan's got nothing to hide
33:21It's in his interest to play ball
33:22Cool
33:23I'll hold onto the device
33:24I'll just take a big deep breath
33:25And blow in until I tell you to stop please
33:29Blow
33:30You're not blowing
33:31Okay?
33:32Yeah
33:33Stop messing around
33:34Okay?
33:35Yeah man
33:36Imagine you're blowing a balloon
33:37Okay?
33:38Yeah man
33:39You can't trick the machine mate
33:40Alright?
33:41If you're not blowing
33:42If you don't blow hard enough again
33:43Then it's what's called failing to provide
33:44We should be arrested
33:45Alright?
33:46Do you understand?
33:47Yep
33:48Lovely
33:49Keep going
33:50Keep going
33:51Keep going
33:52Keep going
33:53Lovely
33:54Thank you
33:55I'll analyze the sample of breath that you've given us
33:56Totally
33:57You're all right
33:58See what you're talking about
33:59Legal limit at the roadside is 35
34:03Fail at 72
34:04So this morning I'm standing under arrest
34:05For driving or service for a problem with alcohol
34:07I'm standing
34:08Don't be defensive
34:09You want to try and question some questions on the court
34:10Nothing can do so if you're given evidence
34:12Alright?
34:13Put your hands out
34:14You might have a great sake of my vote
34:15Thank you
34:16He's going to be sent off to custody
34:18Thanks
34:19Shouldn't drive like idiot mate
34:21And his mate will be taking the safer option of a stroll home
34:25After a word from Harrison
34:28I would say filming and laughing at your mate who's now with us is pretty stupid
34:32Yeah?
34:33Please step out the car
34:38Good job
34:39You don't want people like this driving
34:40Especially with passengers in the vehicle
34:42You know he's double the drink drive limit
34:44Potentially prevented a serious accident
34:47Drink drivers, kill people
34:49I've got no sympathy
34:51What time am I going to be out tomorrow?
34:53Don't know
34:54You've got work?
34:56I don't know
34:57What time you've got work?
34:58I'm going to be getting pissed for half five
35:00Yeah you won't be going to work at half five mate
35:02And there's one more bit of bad news for the driver
35:07Probably he's failed to stop initially
35:09I'm going to get a second section 59 warning mate
35:11Which means we're going to seize your car
35:14Section 59 warnings are issued for anti-social driving
35:19Thanks to his earlier dodgy driving
35:21He's totted up two section 59's within 12 months
35:24And his motor is shown the red card
35:27I think he's going to have some regrets when he wakes up later today
35:34After failing the breath test at custody
35:36He was convicted of drink driving
35:38And disqualified for 18 months
35:40He also had to pay £859 in costs and a fine
35:45You see all sorts as an interceptor
36:03And another set of wheels bombing along the pavement
36:05Is raising eyebrows for Ian Bayliss
36:09Fuck there mate
36:10You can't ride that on the road
36:13It doesn't matter
36:15Look pull up and then we'll have a chat
36:17Can anyone take it here?
36:18Well I don't know yet
36:19He's saying we can spot it
36:20Okay
36:21Well pull up and let's have a look
36:27That ride could land this bloke in hot water
36:29He claims he's just picked up the electric quad bike for his son
36:33You can't ride that on the road
36:34I thought it was just like
36:36It's like a mobility scooter
36:38Yeah
36:39It's not, it's a motorcycle
36:41So technically you need insurance
36:43Yeah
36:44Your driving licence
36:45And everything
36:46And have you got any of that?
36:47I have yeah
36:48You've got it all
36:49I've got a driver licence
36:50You've got insurance
36:51No
36:52See that's where I have to take it now
36:54In my place
36:55He's literally just got it
36:56Where do you live?
36:57I live, I'll push it back now
36:58I'll literally push it back
36:59That cannot be on the road
37:01I'll push it back
37:02Okay
37:03I'll take the outlet
37:04I'll put it in the pocket
37:05And I'll push it back
37:06Potentially Ian could seize the mini motor
37:09It's classed as a mechanically propelled vehicle
37:12Which is a
37:14It's effectively a motorcycle
37:16Yeah
37:17Same as a quad
37:18Doesn't matter if it's electric
37:19Electric
37:20I don't think they've got electric
37:21No
37:22But he decides the best road to take here is some words of advice
37:26If he wants to ride it you have to take it somewhere
37:29Private land
37:30You can't just blast down, especially pavements as well
37:33Yeah
37:34And the good old section 59 warning comes in handy again
37:37If this is seen on the road again
37:39Yeah
37:40Okay
37:41I'll put a thing in with your name on it
37:43It applies to you
37:44And the bike
37:45I know
37:46They'll take it next time
37:47And then we take it
37:48Yeah
37:49Sorted
37:50Right
37:51Walk it
37:52Yeah
37:53Well done
37:54Chipper
37:55Thank you very much
37:56He can stay on it
37:57But you're walking
37:58And you hit riding it
37:59No, thank you
38:00Cheers
38:01Good luck
38:02Thank you
38:03Anyone else that took that
38:04Damn right
38:05Yeah, see you later
38:06Two happy customers walk their new main machine home
38:16Still to come
38:17Hello there
38:18Aw
38:19It'll feel alright enough
38:20A rescue mission on the A14
38:22You got it
38:24You're on
38:25And Griff gets a couple of new crewmates
38:28As we've already seen the interceptors don't always get a warm reception
38:38But managing suspects is only part of their day-to-day duties
38:53A vast chunk of our time isn't dealt with chasing criminals down
38:55It's dealt with helping people
38:56And undoubtedly that's what drives most cops to get out of bed in the morning
38:57It's the roots of policing
38:58It's all about community
38:59It's about serving the communities in which we live
39:00To try and make people's days a little bit better and to make those communities safer places
39:03In the west of the county, worrying reports are coming in about a breakdown on the A14
39:16In the west of the county, worrying reports are coming in about a breakdown on the A14
39:29Of course they think they're elderly females still in the car and there's an old man out there
39:35Of walking all around in the live lane
39:40This afternoon Chris is joined by fellow interceptor Aaron Griff Griffiths
39:44Who's putting his foot down
39:46It looks like the occupants were out of the vehicle but stood in the live lane
39:49So you've got traffic travelling at 70 miles an hour
39:54Maybe some higher speed
39:58So that's a concern that is as reported
40:02The call is being treated as a grade one emergency
40:05Look at this tailback
40:08To reach the stranded couple the interceptors are up against building traffic
40:13This is a grade one, call you back
40:18Griff received a police commendation for saving the life of someone involved in a crash
40:23He's armed with advanced driving skills
40:28Which are coming in handy today
40:31Fair play, fair play, thank you very much
40:34Another unit are first for the scene
40:36Griff and Chris aren't far behind
40:40You got them on mate
40:41And Rears
40:42And Rears
40:43And we've arrived
40:45Fellow interceptor James fills them in
40:47The lady bless is ever so emotional
40:49Because she's got scared
40:50A bit of all the lorries beeping up
40:52So I've reassured them
40:53Told them what we're going to do
40:55Toe them off
40:56But towing eyes not missing
40:57So we're going to have to do a bit of a thing on the axle
40:59We'll do underneath
41:00If you stay where you are
41:01JC goes in front
41:03While Griff and James move their marked cars into a position to shield
41:08And tow the broken down Renault
41:10Chris comforts the shaken driver
41:12Hello there
41:14It'll be alright my love
41:16Hello
41:18Hello
41:20The couple were on their way to Wales on holiday
41:22When disaster struck for driver Sue
41:25It's just come up with a red light
41:27See an engine failure
41:29And it's not all harm
41:31That's it
41:32Nothing else
41:33No sound
41:34Nothing
41:35It's never happened to me
41:36Not in 40 odd years
41:37Cheers
41:42Just come across back this way from me sir
41:43How old am I?
41:45How old am I?
41:47How old am I?
41:4993
41:51The interceptors need to move fast
41:53To tow the elderly couple to safety
41:56Where do you think of
41:57Where are you thinking of putting it?
42:02A missing towing eye puts a spanner in the works
42:04But Chris is on the case
42:08Although I think Rocky might have said
42:09Might have sussed out somewhere for it to go
42:13You've got it?
42:15You're on
42:16Good to go
42:18James and the gent will be out front on towing duty
42:24Chris will ride in the Renault
42:26Whilst Griff
42:27Sometimes these things happen
42:28Sometimes these things happen
42:30They're not
42:32But they're flipping A14 of all
42:36Is crewing up with Sue and her canine companion
42:39Good when you are Josie
42:41And we're off
42:43If it ever happens in the future
42:44First thing you must do is call the police
42:47Between 40 and 70 miles an hour
42:48If you break down a road like that
42:50And you can't get the car out of the road
42:52Get out of the car and call us straight away
42:53Right I will
42:54Yeah
42:55Because we'll come out and
42:56Even if we have to just shut the road
42:57Keep you safe
42:59Shut the lane then we'll do that
43:01The team towed the Renault off the A14
43:04And onto a side road
43:06Where the couple can safely wait for their recovery
43:10Just in case
43:12I'll give him a phone number
43:13Just in case you do need me as a teammate
43:15You know
43:16If I tell him he's been replaced
43:17He won't be happy
43:19Is that your partner?
43:20No, no, the one underneath your car
43:22Oh, he's underneath my car
43:24Chris's improvised towline worked a treat
43:26Despite her initial distress
43:28After a good natter
43:29It seems Sue is feeling much better
43:32I don't know which one I like the best here
43:35Isn't he lovely?
43:37Isn't he lovely?
43:38Will you take a picture of us?
43:39Oh yeah, we will
43:40I like this one best
43:42Yes!
43:43Shows all of his lovely features
43:45What ones have I done?
43:46I think I've just cracked the lens
43:48Your turn lads
43:51Never had this many photos
43:55Beautiful
43:56Might as well make a laugh
43:58There you go again
43:59That's memories now
44:00It's better than crying, isn't it?
44:01Absolutely
44:03Once the interceptors have made sure everyone is happy
44:06There we go
44:09Their work here is done
44:11We're going to leave you now
44:12No
44:13Alright?
44:14I knew what you didn't need me
44:15Where have we got you?
44:17We've got a whole county of people to protect
44:19No
44:20Loads of people
44:21They're not as nice as me
44:22No, do you know what?
44:23They're not, to be fair, honestly
44:25Breakdown assistance will get the couple back on the road
44:28Sue's interceptors
44:29Police interceptors
44:30Sue's, yeah
44:31Interceptors
44:32Police interceptors
44:33Featuring
44:34Sue
44:35Sue
44:36Sue interceptors
44:37Like it?
44:38Yeah
44:39Yeah, okay, yeah
44:40Well it has got a ring to it
