00:00Hey, everybody. I was walking here in Washington, D.C., and who did I bump into?

00:06One of my favorite members of the United States Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

00:11And one of my favorite senators.

00:13Right.

00:15Anyhow, as everybody knows, we are now in a government shutdown.

00:21Republicans are attacking Alexandria, attacking me.

00:25Alexandria, why didn't you vote for this clean CR to keep the government open?

00:31Well, there's nothing clean about it.

00:32This is one of the dirtiest tricks that is being pulled on the American people right now.

00:38Starting today, October 1st, and throughout the rest of the month,

00:42Americans across this country are going to start getting notifications

00:46that their insurance premiums are up to doubling.

00:51We're talking about...

00:51Say that again.

00:52Your insurance, your monthly insurance premiums, are going to double for millions of people across the country.

01:01At a time when we're already paying, by far, the highest prices in the world for health care

01:08at a time when people can't afford it right now.

01:10So what happens?

01:11That means people getting bankrupt over chemotherapy,

01:15people going to the pharmacy and not being able to get their insulin,

01:18and frankly, it means a lot of Americans are going to be in danger.

01:22And Republicans want us to rubber stamp that.

01:25So what are we going to say to that, Bernie?

01:27Well, I'll tell you, let's not only be in danger, let's be clear.

01:30And that doesn't make me happy to have to say this,

01:34but there have been studies out there that when you combine doubling premiums for the ACA

01:39and then throwing 15 million people off of Medicaid and the ACA.

01:45The result is, according to studies at Yale and the University of Pennsylvania,

01:5150,000 low-income, working-class Americans will die every single year.

01:58All right?

02:00If you don't have the money to go to a doctor and you're sick, you die.

02:03And that's what this clean bill is about.

02:08And so Republicans want us to rubber stamp that.

02:12And we're saying no.

02:13We need to stand up for the American people.

02:15We need to stand up for our health care system.

02:18And if they want our votes, they need to make sure that we're protecting every American

02:23and making sure that we can do what we can to continue to make health care accessible,

02:28affordable as we work to make it a human right for all.

02:31Right.

02:31So let me just back that up.

02:32Remember, right now, our health care system is broken.

02:37Right now, we're the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care to all people.

02:41And these guys want to make it even worse.

02:44We're not going to let that happen.

02:46No, we're not.

02:47Onward.
