STEPS2Health is an entry level walking club and welcomes new members. Participants walk for up to an hour, every Saturday, year round.
The first walk of September on the 6th was warm and dry, but very blustery for a Steps2Health walk. The Speedies were sandblasted on the South beach, while the Speedies abandoned the scenic views walk in favour of shelter from the gusts.
One highlight was ‘Susan’, the 30-year-old Agave in flower in the Esplanade. The other was the Hay Shantymen, singing on the harbour at the end, an unusual treat.
What a day for a trip to Angle, the following Saturday! Horrendous showers and strong, cold winds. Despite the conditions, 24 cheery walkers turned up. There were the usual epic views, but everyone got pretty wet. That was soon forgotten during the usual excellent lunch at the Wavecrest Café.
On September 20 the weather was ‘Biblical’, with hard, driving rain. The 22 cheery walkers who turned out for a local walk were thoroughly soaked. To top it off, everywhere was crammed with visitors, here for the Ironman weekend. “Memorable” is a polite understatement.
The final Saturday walk on the 27th stayed dry throughout, despite threats of rain. It was much quieter with most of the tourists gone. The walk from Kilgetty to Saundersfoot was very scenic and an autumnal delight; a grand way to wrap up this month’s walks.
