Taiwan’s coast guard received a new 600-ton ship today equipped with extra firepower capacity to help with patrols, which could play a crucial role in countering Chinese gray-zone activity.

00:06to emergencies at sea, inspect foreign fishing boats and police waters around Taiwan.
00:12And with its rocket launchers, 20-millimeter cannons and compatibility with anti-ship
00:17missiles, pack a real punch.
00:20Delivered on Thursday, the Su Wow is the 10th Anping-class vessel in service in Taiwan's
00:25Coast Guard.
00:42In recent years, Taiwan has faced increasing incursions from the Chinese Coast Guard and
00:46Navy vessels, as well as civilian fishing boats.
00:50On Tuesday morning, Taiwan detected and is built two Chinese vessels in the restricted
00:55waters near Dongsha Island.
00:57The island, commonly known as Prada's Island, is claimed by both China and Taiwan in the
01:02South China Sea.
01:03Just this year, Taiwan's Coast Guard recorded 159 incidents of Chinese vessels entering the
01:25restricted waters around Dongsha.
01:27It described the latest intrusion as part of China's grey zone tactics, moves meant to
01:32strain Taiwan's defenses without triggering open conflicts.
