Demarai Gray hailed Birmingham City’s character after they once again kept right on until the very end to snatch a point against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

Gray, back in royal blue after almost a decade away, knows what resilience means at St Andrew’s. A product of Blues’ academy, he broke through as a teenager before moving on to the Premier League and Europe, but his roots remain firmly in Birmingham.

00:13Blue after almost a decade away knows what resilience means at St Andrews. A product of
00:19Blues Academy, he broke through as a teenager before moving on to the Premier League and Europe,
00:25but his roots remain firmly in Birmingham. Now in his second spell, he's reconnected with the
00:32supporters who first saw him dart down the wings as a fearless 17-year-old. Those fans erupted in
00:39stoppage time when Gray delivered the decisive moment. With Blues' proud home record on the
00:45line unbeaten in league football at St Andrews since April 2024, it was the returning hero who
00:52saved it. As the ball dropped in a frantic finale, Gray slammed his finish in off the underside of the
01:00crossbar at the Tilton to deny the Owls' victory. That striking short, Blues extended their unbeaten
01:06home run and continued an early season trend. Four of their seven championship goals so far have come
01:13in the 90th minute or later, yielding six priceless points. Gray's contributions added weight of a
01:21narrative of late drama and unyielding spirit. Reflecting afterward, he said,
01:26I can't really question the character of the team. Watching last season, you could see the character
01:32the team has. I've no doubt about that. It's just the small things we have to tighten up on
01:37where we're letting ourselves down a bit lately. It's still early in the season and we don't want to
01:43drop points. But it's just about a process and tightening up, I think we'll be just fine having
01:49full confidence in the squad. Blues' battling form at St Andrews is keeping them in touch with
01:55the early pace setters despite three straight away defeats without a goal. Gray and his teammates will
02:03aim to put that right when they travelled to Wrexham on Friday evening, carrying with them the same
02:09belief that lifted one of their own back into the spotlight.
