Tygerberg doctors perform South Africa's first robotic-assisted living donor kidney surgery
Transcript
00:00The vision that you have through the robot is 3D HD, but it's up close, you can get much
00:28closer to what you're working on than you would with your naked eye.
00:32So it makes it much more safe in my opinion and the margin of error becomes much smaller
00:37than it would be for traditional surgery.
00:40Donating the kidney is a highly complex surgery because you not only remove the kidney as
00:49you would for a cancer, but preserve the blood vessels and the ureter, the pipe going to
00:54the bladder with its blood supply and you have to make sure that the blood vessels are at
00:59its full length.
01:01There is a big need for more kidney donors, but in specifically government sector, we don't
01:16really have the capacity to do many more.
01:19But at least if we do it like this with the robot, the efficiency is so high that the
01:24ones that we can do can be done more effectively.
01:26We will definitely move forward to try and push the boundaries and see how much better and
01:33more effective and more efficient we can become.
01:39With the robot efficiency and predictability is a big plus.
02:09Blast value'll be a problem.
02:11Be nice.
02:12Be nice.
02:13Be nice.
02:14Be nice.
02:15I'm not sure if you're going to be a good, but I will say it.
02:16I'm not a good one.
02:17I will be a good one.
02:18But, I'm glad that I'm not a good one.
02:20You are going to keep bringing up the blood vessels, you are going to my best.
02:21So, you are going to try to make sure that you are going to be a good one.
02:23What can I do to do with this before?
02:26Now, if you're going to try to make sure that I'm not going to be a better way for you.
02:30But, we'll try to make sure that we need a short time.
